Bill Clinton will never be irrelevant. Obama apparently doesnt think so , since most of his
future Cabinet worked previously for Bill. As a woman, I must say, I am disgusted by the
female bashing that goes on in this forum. Hilary is her own person, like Michelle is.
They both got into law school and graduated without any help from their future husbands.
Michelle apparently thinks a lot of what Hilary has to say - she is sending her kids to the same school and no doubt will solicit advices as to how to endure the destruction of her
career /identity all for the sake of a MAN.
Look Hilary and Bill are not joined at the hip. He OWES her big time for the Lewinsky
thing , Chelsea probably is also helping Mom out on this one. Dad WILL behave, so
Mom can have a professional life.

So, stop it already. The Clintons, my keyster....... Hilary will always be a Rodham,
the Clinton she can drop whenever she wants.

Clearly you haven't read all of them because they are other political discussions going on. What are you offering as a counterbalance? We are not sheep and Obama is just a man. I will not turn off my brain or remain silent but I will also back up my dissent or opinions with action not blind allegiance.

Same to you. There are. And you know what...all of them are stuck in this stupid divisive meme as well. We need to move forward. We need to focus on the positive possibilities of what is Obama selected her. There needs to be more speculation about the positive reasons for him to that. Versus the negative speculation of him having flawed judgement. There is a strong possibilty that he knows Hillary and what she stands for that reaches beyond what we on the sidelines know,

I am going to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. HE beat the odds. HE develoed the strategy to do so. Despite Hlllary having 15 years on the national stage A ROOKIE beat her!!! That tells me, all our second guessing is for naught just like the probability of HRC beating BHO was wrong!

It is time to move on and think forward. HRC is a done deal as SOS...I trust Obama';s judgment!!

I CANT STAND THIS!!! Almost every single person on this thread is trying to say the HRC decision is a home run. Based on what exactly??? Repeating "gravitas", "the world's respect" and "knowing world leaders" is completely meaningless. What proof do you have that HRC will be a good diplomat? A diplomat is one who is skilled in diplomacy.

According to the dictionary diplomacy means
1 : the art and practice of conducting negotiations between nations
2 : skill in handling affairs without arousing hostility : TACT

Tell me where is HRC's track record conducting sucessful negotiations? Where is her skill in handling affairs without arising hostility? Where the hell is her foreign policy experience? Please just give me one example.

Saying Obama is smart and knows his business is not an answer. I'm willing to consider he might have some ju-jitsu and Sun Tzu fu going. But there is nothing I see anywhere that shows HRC is qualified to be the nation's TOP diplomat.

Jill: Biden looks good in comparison to Palin. The core argument you put forth was a valid one. That by no way means he doesn't harbor racial prejudices, it just means he knows what side his bread is buttered with. He isn't exactly an anti-racist activist! He's a politician. The thing with Obama is that he's able to work with all types of people who submit to him in some way. That doesn't mean he's OUR ALLY.

No need get riled up over things that haven't happened yet.

We may all be surprised in the end, as this turns out to be quite a fruitful union, and there aren't any fireworks at all.

I'd like to think that Obama is smart enough to understand the position he may (or may not) be putting himself in, and that he thought the decision through intensely, including each cause for concern you mentioned in your post.

Let's just wait and see how it all plays out.

It's cool. Barack's just parking Hillary there until a Supreme Court space opens up and swallows her political ambitions forever. Then Susan Rice becomes Secretary of State (which is why Ms. Rice will report directly to Obama from the Cabinet-level UN Ambassadorship until Ms. Clinton is kicked upstairs). Just guessin'.

What do the Clintons get from this?

Expected and Welcomed SEPARATION from one another. Hillary will be on the road at least 80% of the time, and Bill will be able to get up to whatever Bill gets into when Hillary's not around to force him to act like a DEVOTED HUSBAND.

The benefit is that they get to stay married without having to publicly ACT happily married.

And, Ronnie, I'm with you on the fact that it will not take long for the Clintons to begin showing their asses and forgetting that they have a BOSS they have to answer to. I don't expect Obama to be "punked" on this, either.

I also agree with Jill's estimate of how long it will take them to show their ass, but just as she was wrong about Joe Biden (cause I was, too), I might be wrong about this appointment, but Obama wins whether Hillary gets the job done or Effs-up. As the Good Admiral Komack said, "He'll shytcan her and she becomes an unemployment statistic" if she decides SHE'S the boss.

She will be terrific - he will get credit. It is as simple as that. A secretary of state who
has among her advisors - a former President of the United States who has maintained
his international ties. Wow! Talk about inside information . This pick was genius.

If Hilary wants to move on in a few years and then run for President so what ?
Thats what Barak Obama did in the US Senate. If a man can use one political office
as a step to get another, why not a woman?

Talking about multiple things simultaneously is not the issue. Clinton yammering and speculation in a divisive war is OVERKILL. Folks need to develop a fresh perspective and new storyline other than one of division when it comes to Obama and Clinton.

The focus on divisiveness is beating a dead horse. Every single news show, pundit and a plethora of articles all start from the same premise.

The mindset of division needs to move along.
