I here you. I used to braid hair from my house years ago, and I actually experienced the discrimination between Korean customers and non-Korean customers rates for products and services.

Black owned is the way to go.

This is race-favoritism. What if I were to say I was only going to buy from white-owned businesses? You'd be pretty upset, wouldn't you?

How about we reward those who run their businesses the best, who provide the best product, regardless of who owns them, instead of punishing hardworking business owners who don't meet your black specifications?

here's the deal:

i think this is a great idea...if only i could find a black grocer! yes, in Dc there are west indian markets but..they don't carry all the products i need.

also, perhaps more would be willing to support black business of 2 things happened:

1.-better customer service over all. I've been to too many black businesses where they were late, rude, not thorough, etc. how can you tell me to support black businesses when so many of them do not know how to treat me as a customer?

2.-poor marketing. i am currently looking for a spa for my partner and i to go to during vday weekend. many of the black spas in the area have poorly done websites---IF they have one at all. and then they don't answer the phone! let's say there IS a black grocer in DC....i wouldn't know about it because they don't make themselves known.

These are two serious issues that can hurt black businesses and make it hard for me to do the ebony experiment even if it's just a little bit.

ps---I am going to get a pedicure today at a black spa....i finally tracked down their website.

You would think this would be easy for me to do in the Atlanta area….but I'm finding it very difficult. I think I was under the delusion that the business would be black-owned by default because of location….but there are a lot of businesses owned by other minorities, not African-americans.
