Yeah... And you begin to understand why Obama's election didn't do anything to make a post racial America.

What it did was to prove that a large enough MINORITY of white folks in America either a) don't hold any racial animus, or b) despite holding some racial reservations were clear headed enough to vote their own best interests instead of voting for ignorance.

The Republican "white people's party" will undoubtedly raise it's ugly head again in 2010 and 2012, judging from the fawning admiration of the Sn' Ho' by the backwoods set. The racial remnants of the Jim Crow confederacy are likely to be with us for a while.

I think they might try another fake out and promote Bobby Jindal because you know he's Indian American so they can claim to be post racial. Of course he's very brown-skinned and a lot of the Red State citizenry might mistake him for Native American...or Black! Ha. I see it now Jindal/Palin the losing ticket of 2012. Palin doesn't want to play second fiddle anymore, but she is delusional if she thinks she could stand to run a campaign with the gloves off. Katie Couric was hardly difficult with her.

Jindal is not stupid. I swear, if he makes it through being Louisiana Governor without any scandals or indictments, the GOP should kiss his feet and offer him anything.

Obama who is soooo prescient was on target again. He has a divided nation, north vs. south, just like Lincoln.

Folks says he is 'obsessed' with Lincoln, but Obama knew before he was elected that he too, just like Lincoln, was inheriting a divided nation. What he did not count on was the financial crisis overlaying that...but he understood that we are a nation at war with ourselves.

It is sometimes called the blue vs. red divide but Obama understood that at the core is racism...the vestiges of the Confederacy and the stars and bars flags that still fly over the state capitols in SC and GA. Obama is here to unite this country some 200 years AFTER the civil war was fought, yet the South has not once conceded. They have merely bubbled back up with new ways to keep the old divisions alive.

Obama has not been studying Lincoln all this time for no reason, he understands the deeply held convictions on both sides and he is determined to make this a more perfect union as it was intended to be when the US Constitution was written.

How rich in irony will be it be that a black President was the one who had to finally UNITE this nation? O what the history books will say and the stories they will tell about the African seed born in this nation that rose up to be the 44th President, unbowed by slavery ancestors, and who demonstrated the supreme equality of all men from African nations when allowed to compete on equal footing to achieve all the ideals of the American creed. Ah the stories they will tell, about the immense joy of Moses people lead by the leader of the Joshua generation.

A man who told his own story before it was written, who went to Bloody Sunday in Selma and told the ministers and leaders during Moses time that it was time for the Joshua generation to lead. He said this in the church with John Lewis who was afraid to give his endorsement cause BubbaBill was pressing him so hard not to.

A man who stood on the steps in Springfield, Ill rich in symbolism and said he would need us to help him run and get elected. A man who told us his beliefs and convictions in 2004 and when he ran he held true to them.

Obama will unite us ..he will put the nail in the coffin of the confederacy...even Richmond, VA understood that...Virginia is on board as the home of the confederacy and so soon will be SC where the first shots were fired.

What a glorious time in American history to be alive!!

Rikyrah, I read the first two books, and I liked the vampire storyline. I try to stay up on my young adult lit because I teach middle school. It is a nice easy read, if you don't analyze it too closely you can probably recoomend it to some teenagers.

A good vampire series is written by L A Banks. It even has a teacher's guide. It may be more appropriate for high schoolers though. The 1st book is called

Love the series and have read every one of the books. Damali, Carlos, Marlene and Shabazz bring some serious spirituality and reverence for the ancestors up in there.

I will definitely check it out. I try to pinpoint reluctant readers and introduce them to books that contain their interests. Thanks for the recommendation.

HUGE teen audience. There was a damn near riot in SF last night from the male lead of the movie version doing an in-store appearance. The books are ok but the author is a Mormon with some very obvious racial prejudices as well. The Black vampires are supposed to be especially extra evil.

Okay, I should probably take that last part back. LOL. I enjoy a good vampire romance myself but the Twilight series is not at all worthy of all the attention it has received (in my opinion).

I'm a librarian in Detroit and the Twilight series is even popular her with teen girls. It's not the best writing ever but compared to the Triple Crown/Urban books that the kids love to read I find Twlight pretty harmless. Here is a link with more info.

If they had taken the same rectal exam approach to Palin as they had done to Obama, the General Election would have been over 2 weeks post her selection. Pundits are predicting that three of the Supreme Court’s most liberal justices will announce their retirements after Barack Obama takes office so he can name like-minded replacements.

The theory is that Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David H. Souter and John Paul Stevens will all step down, Legal Times reports. Stevens is the oldest at age 88, followed by Ginsburg, who is 75, and Souter, who is 69.

But the prognosticators aren’t listening to Ginsburg, who says she has no plans to retire, the Legal Times story says. Speaking at Columbia University on Oct. 25, she referred to Justice Louis Brandeis. Ginsburg said Brandeis “became a justice at age 60, as I did. He remained on the bench until age 83. My hope and expectation is to hold my office at least that long."

Looking back over the campaign, everyone now seems to see that there were a few key moments when John McCain did things that surrendered whatever chance he had to beat Barack Obama. At the top of the list has to be the choice of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential nominee -- a choice that seemed fatal from the first for those who had eyes to see it, and soon revealed itself as such over the concluding weeks of the campaign. And McCain staffer and alter-ego Mark Salter is now conceding that the campaign suspension is probably another.

But what is easy to miss in these key moments is that most of them weren't simply what McCain did but how Obama reacted -- and the critical synergy between the two.

The campaign suspension was the key example.

It wasn't just that McCain suspended his campaign (and tried to postpone the debate). That wasn't the point at all. He unilaterally suspended his campaign and dared Obama not to suspend his. That was the key. Either Obama had to follow McCain's lead and suspend his campaign or reveal himself as the self-serving, all-about-himself, unpatriotic freak McCain's campaign had spent so many millions of dollars to portray him as. It was a classic play at the Republicans' 'bitch-slap' theory of electoral politics, with all the gendered weight and macho-hierarchy-setting the unlovely phrase implies.

But Obama didn't budge. I think there were a lot of Democrats who were really worried that McCain had put Obama in some kind of box or that Obama would see it as such and react accordingly. But he didn't.

And it went from McCain bigfooting Obama (with all that would have entailed), to Obama turning the stunt around on McCain. It undermined one of McCain's key selling points against Obama -- that he was tougher, more seasoned under pressure -- and further cemented the image of a man who was erratic and showed questionable judgments under pressure.

Sooo, let's REVIEW McAncient's Campaign FAILURES:

1. Choosing the UN-VETTED ONE as a VP running mate!

Obama was not just running against another candidate, he was running against more than 300 years of American culture and mythology depicting Black americans as sub human. And, you know, we told him, 'You're gonna have to find some other way to motivate yourself.' And he did, which was what he could do as president."

This is the advantage Obama had over every candidate for President since Ronald Reagan and perhaps Paul Tsongas. He wanted to do things for the country, that he felt uniquely qualified to execute. I believe RR, TP, and perhaps Jimmy Carter wanted to move the country in a certain direction. RR was charismatic and succeeded. Carter and Tsongas were not good politicians. Carter has proven he is a moral person with genuine concern for justice and development.

None of the serious candidates in 2008 and 2004 were as in touch with the "do" part of President as Obama. The "be" president ambition will lead you to major in minors, as HRC and Johnny Mac campaigns did when they started losing.

There is a lesson there for all of us. What are you to do as a parent, Christian, Muslim, sister, brother, spouse, child, nephew/niece, cousin, uncle/aunt, etc.
