Lawd have mercy. Evn when the 'SnoHo tries to ham it up for the media, she's sitll a jive turkey! Turkey pardons – Palin style
Nov. 20: Countdown guest host David Shuster discusses Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech pardoning one turkey, while two others were slaughtered in clear view behind her.
US PRESIDENT Total Number of Precincts 438 Precincts Reporting 438 100.0 % Times Counted 325054/495731 65.6 % Total Votes 323820 Baldwin and Castle AI 1652 0.51% Barr and Root LIB 1575 0.49% McCain and Palin REP 192631 59.49% Nader and Gonzalez IND 3757 1.16% Obama and Biden DEM 122485 37.83% Write-in Votes 1720 0.53%
But there’s one small victory that hasn’t been talked about much. After the whopping 90,000 votes that were counted in Alaska after election day, there was a shift in the presidential race. After the final tally, McCain-Palin won by 59.49%. LESS than 60%. And we can even round down to 59%! I’ll take it.
2008 McCain/Palin 59% Obama/Biden 38%
2004 Bush 61 - Kerry 35% 2000 Bush 59 - Gore 28%
Obama won the hearts of more Alaska voters than any Democrat in recent memory. And McCain-Palin, despite their surface appeal, with the Alaska Governor on the ticket, frankly, didn’t do all that well comparatively. I’m looking forward to 2012. I think we’re headed in the right direction.
The article says it ALL! President-Elect Obama SCORED WELL in ALASKA!! :>)

rikyrah: Some pics from the P-E's BIRTHDAY surprise to the V-P-E:
Victorious in his race to unseat Alaska's best known collector of illicit felony-booty Ted Stevens, Democratic Senator-elect Mark Begich made an appearance on last night's Rachel Maddow Show (guest hosted by Alison Stewart), which, as before, he was "honored" to do! Begich magnanimously praised Stevens' service and voiced his excitement for "new opportunities" for his state. Begich also predicted that he would be able to successfully work with Governor Sarah Palin even though I'd bet twenty dollars right now that she didn't vote for him! Anyway, here's hoping that Alaska can come to be known for something other than frost-flecked, money-grubbing cronyism maybe!

CHICAGO - Many women recoil at the thought of baring their arms in sleeveless dresses or blouses, but not Michelle Obama — half of the fabulously fit new first couple.
Both President-elect Barack Obama and the future first lady have exercise routines that would put most people to shame. Michelle Obama used to join a friend for 4:30 a.m. workouts, and Barack Obama usually starts his day in the gym.
Michelle Obama has been interviewed on television, graced the cover of Newsweek and hit the campaign trail, all with her buff arms bared.
"One of the things I always talk about is got to exercise," the 44-year-old mother of two told an overwhelmingly female crowd at a campaign event last year in Chicago.
That's sure to continue when the Obamas and their girls — 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha — move into the White House, which has plenty of places for them to stay active.

Dingell is out and Waxman is in.
From HuffPo:
WASHINGTON — Rep. Henry Waxman _ a liberal ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi _ will take over the chairmanship of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee when the next Congress convenes in January.
Waxman is a liberal California Democrat. In an election among House Democrats, he toppled veteran Michigan Rep. John Dingell from the post. Dingell is the longest-serving member of the House.
Waxman won the panel chair by a 137-122 vote, capping a bitter fight within the Democratic Party caucus on the Hill.
Dingell has been the top Democrat on the panel for 28 years and is an old-school supporter of the auto industry. Waxman has complained that the committee has been too slow to address environmental issues like global warming.
I can see both sides of the Dingell-Waxman fight. It's bad precedent that the Dean of the House was ousted from his Chairmanship in this way. That precedent could be used against other Senior Members, for instance, CBC Members who are Committee and Subcommittee Chairs. I know that our CBC is not perfect, I wouldn't want to see Rangel or Conyers taken out of their spots.
On the other hand, I agree with CPL's comments as well.
parker404, I don't know if it's bad precedent to out a sitting Chair if its revealed that he or she have become too compromised to do the job because they have been there too long. It just might make them more diligent in carrying out their duties, both as elected officials and as Chairs, in calling for investigations when they are needed. Henry Waxman has shown he's committed to doing his job - not trying to act like Dale Carnegie in trying to Win Friends and Influence People.
He called for investigations that Lieberman, as Chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, refused to do (like inquiring about how Kellogg, Brown and Root, Haliburton and others got fat contracts, lost millions of dollars and had NO OVERSIGHT.
Rangel is in more danger of being outed than Conyers because Conyers abides by ethics and rules of the House; Rangel skirts them as much as poosible until he comes close to the edge. When it became known that Rangel owns rent-controlled apartments in New York, the GOP was all over it and it did not make Rangel look good - remember, Rangel chairs the Ways and Means Committee and one foot wrong mounts up a campaign to out him from the seat.
Conyers has proven himself and only gross incompetence or compromise loses him his chair, even when Nancy Pelosi threatened to take it from him if he didn't back off going after Bush to impeach him. Pelosi threatened, but if she didn't want CBC backlash, she knew better than to really go after Conyers. He bided his time, and who's to say Obama won't have a quiet sit down with him after January and quietly ask him to pursue charges against whatever Bush Cartel members still in the country for war crimes and treason?

CPL,
Totally changing the topic on the goof tip. Do you know if Field Negro ever actually made his "naked Broad Street run"? In my book, he ain't getting off so easy if he didn't. As much trash as he talked, he oughta be a man of his word.
I think he's scheduling it for the inauguration, but drop him a line and let him know he's not off the hook for it.
He's supposed to provide YouTube clips of his run down Broad Street, because I told him I could catch Amtrak and be in Philly within 45 minutes to see him keep his promise. ROFL
Waxman has shown himself to be all over corruption in the Government, and Dingell, while a decent House member, was too beholden to the auto industry and not in a good way. Detroit's big three are looking to Dingell to get them a whole lot of allies to support the bailout, and they are asking for less money than Wall Street got.
Do you believe Hank Paulson is actually harping about how the auto industry should be allowed to fall on their ass, but keep that money rolling to his Wall Street buddies so they can get their bonuses <<<eye roll>>?

From First Read:
"*** Como se dice, "Shut out"? As Obama's cabinet takes shape, there's a glaring omission: Hispanics. With Bill Richardson apparently destined to be the bridesmaid in the secretary of state sweepstakes, some key Hispanic supporters tell First Read that they are concerned that no Hispanics will fill any of the major White House or cabinet positions. It's a bit frustrating to some leading Hispanic Democrats, especially considering how decisively Hispanics went for Obama in this election. Hispanics, literally, were the difference between winning and losing for Obama in at least two states, New Mexico and Indiana. But for the future of the Democratic Party, if Obama truly does have designs on a realignment, he needs to cultivate Hispanics into the Democratic tent. So far, many Hispanics are not happy with the leaks coming out of the transition and the lack of Hispanic names being floated outside of Richardson."
Again, trying not to second guess, but i just don't get it. Hillary Clinton was well on her way to becoming an after thought, but Obama decides to pull her back on the national state and kicks Bill Richardon in the back along with the constituency he owes much to and will certainly need in the future. Maybe there is some hidden brilliance to this madness, but all I see is madness.

Calma te, amigo. There will be Latinos in key White House cabinet positions. In fact, if Luis Gutierrez doesn't get the Senate gig in Illinois, he'd be a damn fine HUD Secretary. I also wouldn't mind seeing Federico Pena (former mayor of Denver and the brainchild behind the Denver Int'l Airport) get the Transportation Secretary gig. And with transportation being a huge need today, it won't be one of those meaningless positions.
Pena had Secretary of Transportation under Clinton. He got sued and affirmative action was set back twenty years and got attacked by Ward Connerly when the ruling in Adarand Contractors v. Pena went down in 1995.
A brotha named Rodney Slater succeeded Pena as the first African-American Transportation Secretary.
I know because I worked for both guys back in the 1990s, in the Civil Rights Office.
I like Gutierrez, and he'd be a good HUD secretary like Henry Cisneros was.

It begs the question why even go there? Clinton is at her "best" when she plays the victim. If she doesn't get the job, middle age white women will be up in arms--AGAIN--and her supporters in Congress will be joining with her to undermine President Obama for the next 4 years. The Clintons are the Clintons. You give them an inch they take 10 miles. Why give her any consideration when his team had to have known how they would play it?

If she doesn't get the job, middle age white women will be up in arms--AGAIN
I couldn't help but giggle at that line because its just so darn true.
She tried to play the "victim" during the Primary. Obama dealt with her THEN, and will deal with her NOW.
Plus, doesn't she remember how many WHITE WOMEN she pissed off when she reverted to crying and drama because Obama rolled off 11 primary victories IN A ROW after her drama in New Hampshire, where she didn't beat Obama BY VERY MUCH?

As expected there has been a backlash against the Obama win.
Here are the observations of Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center about the situation:
I think there's something remarkable happening out there. I think we really are beginning to see a white backlash that may grow fairly large. The situation's worrying.
Not only do we have continuing nonwhite immigration, not only is the economy in the tank and very likely to get worse, but we have a black man in the White House. That is driving a kind of rage in a certain sector of the white population that is very, very worrying to me.
We are seeing literally hundreds of incidents around the country -- from cross-burnings to death threats to effigies hanging to confrontations in schoolyards, and it's quite remarkable.
I think that there are political leaders out there who are saying incredibly irresponsible things that could have the effect of undamming a real flood of hate. That includes media figures. On immigration, they have been some of the worst.
There's a lot going on, and it's very likely to lead to scapegoating. And in the end, scapegoating leaves corpses in the street.
David Niewert has been doing an excellent job on keeping track on right wing militias and white supremacists. Here is the link: http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/

Economic problems. Does Bernake understand what he is doing? An argument he doesn't. If this is true does Obama want him reappointed as chairman in Jan 2010? He will remain on the board. http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsvie...
First off, this would be a good opportunity to put the Federal Reserve under Congressional Oversight. The reason Bernanke and Greenspan before him, got away with shyt is because the Fed has NO CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT.
They can give testimony to Congress, but the only authority the Government has over the Fed is the appointment of the Board of Governors, and that's structured so that no President has any authority or influence over the Fed Chair.
Congressional Oversight and the authority to call for someone to be dismissed, like Congress and the Senate can do with Cabinet members, reins in this shyt. The Fed continues to act in concert with the Treasury to pump paper money into the economy, knowing damned well that there's no gold or silver coin to back it up and we're now seeing the results with the Wall Street crash.
If the Fed must remain, it needs to be converted into an actual Federal Government Agency, with full Congressional Oversight and the ability to order investigations into their operations. Continuing to tell the American people to "trust them" in terms of managing the American economy, is futile and screws us over.

Still makes the Clintons financial dealings to shady for Hillary to be vetted and given SoS.
They need to tank this nomination and find someone else. Besides, Obama owes Hillary nothing but his ass to kiss. CPL,
MSNBC is reporting the Obama Team is upset about the leaks & blaming the Clintons for it!
NMP
It's no secret around here I allowed know nothing talking heads at MSNBC to drive me into fits of hysteria during the the last two months of the election, and I promised to never second guess Obama's judgement again, but I have to admit this Clinton selection has me scratching my head.
The Clintons will bring nothing but disoloyalty and drama into his administration. I'm sick of hearing about Dorris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals"! This is not the 19th Century and Obama is not Lincoln. If a historical comparison must be made, Hillary Clinton is Benedict Arnold. The Clintons are not to be trusted, period! They have taken a grande gesture that was designed to show strength to make Obama look weak. What was he thinking? Where is his brain trust? Where is Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod, the two people that are supposed to have his back?
What's the deal with Rahm? Word is he LOVES the press. Is he leaking? Where do his allegiences lie? He didn't endorse Obama and he accompanied Clinton to Selma for the anniversary of Bloody Sunday. Is he serving Obama's interests or the Clintons?
I had my criticisms of David Plouffe (and I was proven wrong), but there is no doubt he was the brains behind this operation. Obama needs to beg him to come with him to the White House. Someone needs to get things under control.
True That. When Plouffe took over Obama's campaign, they stopped shooting themselves in the foot and reloading to keep shooting.
That camp ran like a well-oiled machine after Plouffe showed up. If anyone was going to get a White House Staff position I thought the guy who got him to the White House would be the one, especially the position Rahm Emmanuel got.
But after thinking more on this, I think Obama removed Emmanuel to defang his ass and allow someone else to get the lobbyists out of the House of Representatives, as well as Rahm's enforcer tactics to force House members to pay equivalent of their salaries to support the DCCC and therefore be forced to be for sale to lobbyists in order to have a livable salary.
I hope Plouffe shows up in the White House, unless he told Obama he didn't want a White House gig.
rikyrah
Plouffe has a brand new baby, and I do mean brand new - the girl isn't even a month old!
Parenting and a White House job don't really mix. To be honest, I'm shocked Axelrod is going to DC. It's just ' not him'.
I think Plouffe knows that, though I do wish that he'd become DNC Chair. He'd do '50 State Strategy 3.0' , and the GOP would be lucky to win dogcatcher in 2012..
Good point. We can start campaigning for Plouffe to replace Dean as DNC Chair before the Eff-Up and give it to the Dark Sith like Carville keeps suggesting.
Both sides were engaged in a delicate public and private dance, maneuvering for position and reputation in case the deal falls through. Aides in each camp have grown increasingly sour toward the other in recent days as the matter played out publicly.
In their public signals, the Clintons are trying to take the former president's activities off the table as an issue, in their view eliminating any excuses for Mr. Obama not to give Mrs. Clinton the job. Some in the Obama camp are bristling at what they see as strategic leaks by the Clintons aimed at boxing in the president-elect and forcing him to offer the post.
The tension could foreshadow a complex relationship burdened by suspicion and enmity should Mrs. Clinton become secretary of state. By putting her in the cabinet, Mr. Obama could remove a potential thorn in the Senate on issues like health care and a potential rival for the nomination in 2012 if his term proves rocky. But he could also face a rival power center within his own administration with her on his team.
All the more reason he needs to tank this nomination. Hillary will be a polarizing figure whether she's in the Senate or in his administration.
Additionally, if she's in his administration, I will not put it past Hillary to undermine President Obama to set herself up for a challenge to him in 2012, and her position in the Democratic Party be damned.
The sense of Entitlement makes someone like Hillary torch everything in sight and still believe they can make up to whomever's toes they trod on.
Justice, remember the Clintons did this shyt when they tried to use the media to force Obama to put her on the VP ticket.
Our response was that Obama would LOSE in a LANDSLIDE if that occurred. He announced Joe Biden as his running mate within 24 hours.
The Clintons are insane - using the same tactics and hoping for a different response. In this instance, I'm trusting Obama to tell homegirl to GTHOH with her shyt and go sit down, cause she wouldn't be running thangs - Billy Jeff would, and we all know this.

The man hasn't even announced his damn cabinet but they seem ready to bad mouth him.. Correct me if I am wrong, Jarrett isn't a Washington insider, right?
First, the reporter entitles the article with what he later describes as Republican criticism. That's not an objective journalist; that's a shill, so consider the source.
Secondly--and I should fully disclose that I'm an Obama fanatic, but I'm not a Democrat (nor am I a Tom's Cabin Republican) -- I also wanted to see some new, non-insider faces in the Obama cabinet. Not inexperienced neophytes, but qualified gifted and talented professionals who don't have Washington baggage.
During the campaigns, many of us were completely satisfied with the prospect of a non-Bush and non-Clinton administration. And we were--dare I say--hopeful at the prospect of some new faces, new ideas, and new roles. I'm not saying that it's impossible to teach some of these old dogs some new tricks ... but it's not likely.
I trust President Obama. But I'm not crazy about some of these picks.
You don't change the machine from the outside, you change it from the inside.
Besides, Barack never said he had anything against Washington insiders per se. He campaigned against pure partisanship and gridlock and lobbyist influence.
He ought to get more credit for his ethics rules for his transition team and his continued efforts to curb the influence of lobbyists in his administration.
That's change.
Keep in mind that none of these cabinet position announcements have come out of Barack Obama's mouth.
I think we should wait till our president tells us who he wants in his cabinet before we jump to conclusions.
I think Hillary leaking or making up shyt to leak to the press to manipulate Obama and her hands continue to get dirty as she tries to force her way into the White House.
I know some of you will tell me "I trust Obama to do what's right" however, I've already made this argument and got my head chopped off on several occasions; nevertheless, I'll make it again - if we don't quit celebrating for a minute and start at least questioning some of Obama's picks, we get the government we deserve and we will have no room for complaint because our silence gives Obama tacit consent to do what he does, and we can't say anything when shyt goes down that hurts him.
The unwillingness to deal with Joe Lieberman will be the first thing that comes back to back this administration in the ass, because Joe is going to revert to his true nature and stab Obama in the back - just because Obama publicly confronted him on the Senate floor. The slap on the wrist and tacit consent to Joe that he can be a traitor of the highest order and nothing will happen to him - watch how fast he takes that out for a test Drive.
Holder, Daschle and Napolitano - I'm cool with and Napolitano is actually a Washington OUTSIDER. What is worrying me is his considerations for Treasury, Commerce and State - all are bad choices, and what the hell is his transition team smoking to even put Summers, Hillary and Pritzker on the table for consideration - given they all have more baggage than an overbooked flight?
spirit_55z
Good morning all. I don't like the fact that Hillary & Bill Clinton have been making headlines for the last few days. It's a distraction, and I don't like either of them. I don't trust them. I don't want Hillary anywhere in Barack's administration, and we all know that Bubba is the 600 POUND GORILLA in the room!
I also have to admit I'm a bit naive about some of the other picks, but I 'm learning, and it's because of the lively, thought provolking, intense, and outrageoulsy humorous discourse here at JJP!
I firmly believe that President-Elect Obama is very methodical, deliberate, and imaginative when it comes to his decision-making process, but I do not wear rose-colored glasses either. I want to continue to question and critique, because I believe not only is it healthy, it should be a mandate for us if we want to survive and thrive!
Also, I've come to realize that all the folks that have been put forth for possible picks and vetting are being exposed for all America to see. It will give any America who truly cares about the process an opportunity to do the research, ask questions, and be more informed. Once the staff is in place, we'll know exactly what we're all getting, and we will be WATCHING!!!
Will they be perfect? Probably not, but I have to trust that because our President has chosen these folks, they will follow the dictates of his command. As Commander-in-Chief, he has the larger viewpoint. All the cabinet members and staff will carry pieces of the viewpoint.
I think being armed with all the information about the people and the the process is very empowering. Barack's faith, family and Inner Circle will be cruical in helping him maintain balance, not to mention his stalwart supporters and constituents.
I do trust Barack Obama, and in the meantime, I want to continue discourse, debate, discuss, We all have our work cut out for us. Fasten our seat belts though, because I think we're in for a very bumpy ride, before we reach our destination.
Sometimes, I think Obama is engaging in a chess game match that is far beyond my comprehension and for that reason, I'm giving a whole lot of leeway.
I also think he has staff who reads blogs like JJP to get a pulse on things. You kinda of see where the Larry Summers as Treasury Secretary went once the blogsphere got hold of it and started posting about dude's escapades at Harvard, and his love letters to Enron CEO Ken Lay about "keeping his eyes on regulation efforts in the industry" BS.
You haven't heard jack about Summers since.
I also think Obama is a very smart man - he must have his own way of dealing with Traitor Joe Lieberman if he's willing to keep him around - this, after Joe openly defied the party that allowed him to come to the dance and went off whoring for John McCain. I can't help but think that given time, Lieberman will be dealt with in such a way that when the dust clears, all we will see is Lieberman whipped and bleeding like Jim Caveziel was in "The Passion of The Christ". We will be looking at Lieberman with our mouths open and wondering "What the hell happened?" while Obama glides along, hands clean, and Joe Biden in a corner with a smirk that says "I took care of that bastard."
I think Obama WANTS us to have these discussions - he's paying attention and he knows that while the moneyed people got him to the dance, those of us who gave time, money, wore out shoe leather, and resources have to be answered to and he knows what its like to be saying one thing and caught doing the opposite, so he doesn't want to be caught with his tighty-whities showing.

The other points: BIG TIME AGREED!! :>)
Justice58
I second that!
spirit_55z
CPL says: "I also think he has staff who reads blogs like JJP to get a pulse on things."
I believe someone commented on thios blog last week that we need to "grow up" Here's my response: You can't grow up if you don't engage with others and get varying viewpoints. For me, t's ok to have an opinion, but I don't cherish them.
LET'S KEEP IT COMING FOLKS! :-)))))
SDG
Co-sign CPL. I've been thinking the same thing. Obama asked that we all be engaged and that's exactly what's going on.
nickwah22
The NYTs has a nice site where you can find out about the Obama team prospective and definite pics. If you have any other site, besides Wiki, please share! Thanks,
I did not know that Joe Biden was a Scorpio....... Oh lord have mercy. Obama did the right thing. We Scorps are loyal as hell. And hell to cross.
Happy Birthday VP Grandpa Joe.
Michelle
Wow, I may need to change my perspective on Scorpios.
rorysmomma
Michelle, If we love you we love you, we will do anything for you. If we hate you we ignore you. If you mess with someone we love........ We will napalm your ass.
Michelle
rorysmomma, my "first love" was a Scorpio, but based on what you're saying here, seems to me in retrospect that that person didn't actually love me back :) It's ok, I was very young (15) and inexperienced in the matters of romance at the time... no hard feelings about it at all. But it did leave me with a bad taste re: Scorpios that has apparently persisted for decades
I need to get off of Memory Lane!
rorysmomma
I hear you. I would never advise being n love with a Scorpio man... Usually unfaithful. If you are gonna get one make sure he is at least 30+
Michelle
Scorpio man .... he
rorysmomma, please don't assume you know the gender of the person I'm referring to just because I also am a woman.
rorysmomma
I wasn't sure, I was just sharing my experiences with men, I know plenty of loyal scorpio women. Didn't mean to offend. That is why I specified men.
You Scorpios have nothing on us Cancers regarding loyalty. We're like old hound dogs; we take beatings and still get ready to throw down for those we love.
rorysmomma
We kill for those we love..... or practice a sly form of character assassination...
spirit_55z
And don't let us Virgos fool ya either. We are by no stretch of the imagination virgins. Alturist, loyal, perfection is the name of the game, and intensely critical.
Michelle
spirit_55z: My girlfriend is a Virgo -- and you speak the truth!
(& don't forget the part about being really into organizing stuff in the house and being pro-active about not running out of stuff .... I assume that's Virgo-ness too, though not necessarily relevant to this discussion here).
spirit_55z
Michelle, nodding in agreement here. Order is the business of the day. My motto: "Order is the first law of expansion." And it's all good. Much joy and peace to you and your Girlfriend! :-)))
Michelle
spirit_55z: Yes, order! Exactly.
When me and my girlfriend first moved in together, I had this weird experience. It barely registered for me at first, but it appeared that I had developed an endless supply of clean underwear and thus did not get my usual signal to do laundry.
I went for a while with this subconscious feeling that some underwear miracle was happening that I was benefitting from. Finally, I realized that this was probably not the case. Turns out my girlfriend couldn't stand to do laundry without checking to see if I had underwear in my basket that needed washing, then putting them neatly in my drawer. Without mentioning it to me.
(And, I wonder if it is obvious that I am an Aquarius)
Thank you for your kind wishes to us, also. Much joy and peace to you as well.

So was Hillary (Oct. 26)
Miranda
Well, she IS really loyal...its just a matter of WHO she's loyal too.
Good Morning, Craig. Morning everyone, since I neglected to greet you all when I posted earlier.
Craig, maybe you can help me with this. Why is Clinton the choice for SoS? She has no diplomatic experience, she's a poor manager, blah blah blah. So why her? I just can't get behind this, and I don't get why Obama would want to saddle himself with all the Clinton drama and behind the scenes machinations.
Help me, because I'm looking cock-eyed at Obama for this cabinet choice.
Admiral_Komack
Obama could have talked to her about anything else other than the SoS job. Hillary's minions could be pushing Hillary, and Obama could be giving them enough rope to hang themselves.
I don't think Hillary IS the choice for Secretary of State.
isonprize
That's the first thing I said. A Leo and a Scorpio? Whew, it's either heaven or hell!!! In this case, I'm hoping for "HEAVEN"!!
Why you think folks call him "Ride or Die Joe"? (The other nickname is "Joey the Shark") I know there were some who didn't like the pick, but from my vantage point here in Phila, Joe was always on my short list (along with Richardson or Gov. dude from a western state - the brain, it freezes sometimes....)
rorysmomma
I get the feeling it is gonna be hell on some folks.... AlQuaeda better stop talking greasy.
I'm wondering if the "Al Queda Called Obama a House Negro" isn't an MSM plant to force Obama to continue fighting with bin Laden, just like the insiders kept lying about Cuba to Kennedy back in 1962 and tried to force Kennedy to attack Cuba because someone ELSE wanted a fight.
rorysmomma
Point well taken.? I do however believe that Obama really doesn't respond to name calling... so the Give 'em hell thing is probably wishful thinking on my part.
I am beginning to think that the news is just an American version of Al-Jazeera (What MSM claims Al-jazeera to be).? Propogandists indeed.
But I can get some serious money on "Cash in the Attic" if I have those plates because in a few years' time, they'll be collectors items.
(Okay, I'm still getting my Brit on - Cash in the Attic is a cool show on BBCAmerica where people clean out their closets and find antiques that they sell at auction and get fat paid) LOL
Miranda
But grandmama and nem need the plates to put in the chiffarobe!!
(dont yall act like you don't know)
Miranda
LOL...isn't the "black experience" sumpthin??.......everybody knew what the heck I was talkin bout!! It doesn't matter if you're in NYC, Atlanta, Houston, Lil Rock, St Louis, Nawlins, Detroit, Cleveland, Vegas, Phoenix L.A or any and all points in-between - everybody's granny or great aunties had the chifffarobe!!
And I bet they all had plastic on that "parlor room" furniture with the velvet like material....LMAO!
And the living room that YOU couldn't go into, not even to sit down when company came calling.
I used to stick to those plastic furniture covers...
Justice58
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Justice58
Exactly, Miranda!
It is amazing to see how "we're" on the same page with so many things and we being miles & miles apart from each other and never having been around each other or seen each other. LOL....like so many of us using the name "Big Mama" when refering to our Grandmothers! It's just the black experience.
I also know about the plastic on the furniture as well. We didn't use it but I sure had cousins that did! lol
Miranda
LOL!! And actually I meant to say "curio" instead of chiffarobe - its the infamous "curio" cabinet that Mama Bell kept her lil ceramic shoes and other breakables that fascinated me. The chiffarobe was in the bedroom - its where she kept slips and undies....or rather (in her words) her "foundations"...LMAO!!!
spirit_55z
Oh mercy! "curio" cabinets and "foundations" LOL! This is (WTMI) way too much information, but i'm going there. My mother used to keep our sanitary belts and girdles in the ciffarobe. Back in the day, we called the sanitary pads ice cream sandwiches and we couldn't let out our "junk in the trunk ." hee! heeee!
MsKitty
Mom had plastic put on our furniture when I was little. It was bad enough sticking to them when it was hot, but when the corners on the cushion covers would start to fray...ouch! To this day I can still feel those corners scratching me.
And my granny had the mahogany one with the plate glass that you couldn't touch if you were the grandchild.
The cousins are arguing about who gets it when the last remaining sibling dies because it's now considered an antique worth the high five figures and there's ten grandchildren who would have to divvy up the proceeds.
Miranda
Oh I know it IS worth a lot, that furniture back then was REAL.....do they even make furniture that heavy anymore? It took like 5 big men to get my granny's huge mahogany wardbrobe out of the house. It must have been 100 years old...beautiful.
spirit_55z
Mioranda, hee, hee, hee! "chiffarobe" My grandma Rena had a magnificent chiffarobe. She left it to me in her will. I still want the coin!
Nate_Wesley
Comedian Lewis Black really got after the plate sellers on The Daily Show last night: "What better way to celebrate the election of the first African-American president than to eat a sloppy joe off the surface of his face?"
Also, the plate makers must have been really anxious about being quick to market: They couldn't even wait for the full electoral college results. The back of the plate notes "27 Votes undetermined" while noting that Obama had the count won.
Michelle
"What better way to celebrate the election of the first African-American president than to eat a sloppy joe off the surface of his face?"
Oil prices have dropped by 60 percent since July. And they fell without the benefit of a gasoline tax holiday, new anti-speculator regulations, or a windfall profits tax on oil companies. A year ago, crude oil was going for $88.00 per barrel and gasoline cost an average of $2.76 per gallon. Over the following months, the price soared, reaching an inflation-adjusted record high of just over $147 per barrel in July. Then the bottom fell out. Yesterday, the price was hovering around $58, up from a recent low of $53 per barrel. The result is gasoline prices plummeting from a national average of $4.11 per gallon in July to below $2.07 per gallon now. So what happened?
THERE IS MORE.
I just bought some for $2.23/gal :>) :>) Whoo! Hoo! :>)
It took so long to fill up the tank that I ALMOST had the nerve to say to myself - HURRY UP!! :>) I haven't been use to taking so loooong to spend my $40! :>)
But I ENJOYED IT!! :>)
djchefron
Just because gas is "cheap" right now do not take your eyes off the ultimate prize.Energy independence and a reduction on our use of fossil fuels.
Michelle
President-elect Obama said it very well on 60 minutes, IMO:
Kroft: When the price of oil was at $147 a barrel, there were a lot of spirited and profitable discussions that were held on energy independence. Now you've got the price of oil under $60.
Mr. Obama: Right.
Kroft: Does doing something about energy is it less important now than…
Mr. Obama: It's more important. It may be a little harder politically, but it's more important.
Kroft: Why?
Mr. Obama: Well, because this has been our pattern. We go from shock to trance. You know, oil prices go up, gas prices at the pump go up, everybody goes into a flurry of activity. And then the prices go back down and suddenly we act like it's not important, and we start, you know filling up our SUVs again.
And, as a consequence, we never make any progress. It’s part of the addiction, all right. That has to be broken. Now is the time to break it.
dj: ABSOLUTELY! JUST trying to show SOME GOOD NEWS.
Realizing that the news reported some 40 MILLION UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS as of 2-day. I'm praying for ALL these people.
**SLOWLY shaking my head** **sigh**
RonnieB
And gas ain't cheaper for our sake. This, IMO, was a move to help out the Big 3 automakers. If gas prices get low enough, people will slavishly go back to buying the Dodge pickups and Chevy Suburbans. This is all about volume.
They sell a lot of cheap gas, and hope that we buy a lot more trucks and SUVs.
For Real. I have a post up on how the Auto Industry CEOs came to DC in private jets, costing their companies hundreds of thousands of dollars, to ask for handouts.
How could oil drop from $114 a barrel to less than $60 a barrel since the summer? WE got took....I haven't seen $2 a gallon gas since 2005.
The banking industry folk did the same thing and they got what is turning out to be a 2.7 trillion dollar bailout, not a loan.
While it was definitely insensitive for the automakers' 3 blind mice to roll up in separate jets, I'm amazed at the media scrutiny about this, and about all the people jumping on the bandwagon to criticize them, though not a peep was heard when the thieves in the banking and Wall Street temples did the same, making off with our money and our children's children's money, and they won't even tell us who got what billions.
After all, our economic crisis started with banking and credit and is part of the reason that the auto industry is suffering but we hear very little about the banking industry's excessively poor mismanagement, and scamming theft.
A $25 billion loan proportioned out based on the needs of the big 3 - Ford and Chrysler don't need nearly as much as GM - AND stringent rules placed on the automakers especially the CEOs and executive staff, up to and including getting rid of the 3 blind mice CEOS should be no brainer; the loan should be made with the instruction that they do some Chapter 11 restructuring, if necessary.
The flying in on jets to beg for money is really a non-issue, since that's the way ALL big corporate execs roll into Washington to beg for dough.
What's pissing me off is that Paulson's crying foul about bailing out the auto industry while taking payola himself.
Talk about hypocrites...
I've done my screaming in blog posts on this board, and that's why I'm screaming about another damned bailout that you and I will be paying for and while I'm unemployed, I can't even pay attention, let alone pay for another damned bailout.
GreenLadyHere
CPL: I can't even pay attention,
LOL!!! :>) I caught that! :>) :>)
rorysmomma
I paid 1.88 green lady. I filled up my car for 30. dollars. I started to just shout in the parking lot.
GreenLadyHere
rorysmomma: Gotta be THANKFUL for SMALL BLESSINGS too. :>)
spirit_55z
This morning I paid $1.81 cents for gas here in Minnesota. RonnieB is on point as usual. I thought President-Elect Obama was close by with all those black SUV's pulling into the gas station.
The tenth anniversary of my Chairmanship was last February. The 100th Anniversary of the NAACP is this coming February. As I think about these milestones, this is the perfect time for me to retire as Chair, and I will not ask the NAACP Board to re-elect me hen we convene again. I plan to continue serving on the Board.
One decade - or one-tenth of the Association's lifetime - is more than enough for one person's leadership. And it is appropriate that a new century fro the organization begin with a new Chair.
I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past decade, and I am very confident about the leadership of our new CEO, Ben Jealous, I intend to be available to him - and to the Association - to assist in furthering the NAACP's continuing role as the most important civil rights organization in the country. I have spent my lifetime as a civil rights activist, a role from which I will never retire.
I trust that you, too, will render every assistance to Ben to enable him to be successful as the years roll by.
It has been a privilege to serve and work with you. I know the NAACP - along with the country - is in good hands.
Rev. Frederick Haynes of Friendship Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, but George Curry reported last summer that it was the other way around, and Rev. Haynes himself reported that he was hamstrung in the selection process, and that the selection process was set up to favor Ben Jealous' selection.
Word on the street was that Jealous was Julian's boy - and half of the 65 member board felt the same way.
And so the Alaska Senate race has truly come to an end: Ted Stevens has conceded the election, after Democratic challenger Mark Begich built up a small but nevertheless insurmountable lead in last night's vote count.
Stevens shocked the political world when the ballots counted on Election Night originally showed him winning the race, despite the fact that he'd just been convicted on multiple felony counts in a corruption trial. This sent organized punditry and Capitol Hill into a frenzy wondering how Stevens could have possibly been re-elected -- but it wasn't over yet.
Begich had banked a lead in absentee voters that happened to not be counted yet -- indeed, he quipped during an appearance on the Rachel Maddow TV show last week that his own early ballot had only just been counted the day before. And when those votes were all tallied, Begich was the winner.
Begich is the first Democrat elected to represent deep-red Alaska at the federal level since Mike Gravel was re-elected to his final Senate term in 1974. And Ted Stevens, who in the 1950s was a U.S. Attorney known for fighting crime and busting corruption, is a lame-duck convicted felon, who even if he had won would have faced possible expulsion from the Senate.
GREAT NEWS!! Score another one for the -----
President-Elect OBAMA! :>) :>)

rikyrah: Thursday, NOVEMBER 20, 2008 - DAY -61 on his "JOURNEY TO JANUARY!"
1. WORD(s) for the DAY: On the TRANSITION TRAIL/APPOINTMENTS
CNN is reporting Wednesday night that Obama has chosen Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano to become secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
President-elect Barack Obama's top choice for secretary of homeland security is Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, multiple Democratic sources close to the transition told CNN on condition of anonymity.
One source said he believed the final decision depends on the vetting of the Democratic governor, much like the selection of Eric Holder for attorney general.
Politico has more details on the Napolitano pick:
Napolitano (na-pawl-i-TAW-noh) brings law-and-order experience from her stint as the Grand Canyon State's first female attorney general. One of the nation's most prominent female elected officials, she made frequent appearances on behalf of Barack Obama during the campaign. She was re-elected to a second four-year term in 2006.
Transition insiders have long expected she would be offered a Cabinet slot, although she had also been mentioned for other posts, including attorney general.
Read more about the speculation that Janet Napolitano would be Attorney General. Read the Obama's Cabinet BigNews Page.
President-elect Barack Obama today returned phone calls to five world leaders and expressed his appreciation for their congratulations on his election. President-elect Obama spoke with:
* Colombian President Uribe * Nigerian President Yar’Adua * Senegalese President Wade * South African President Motlanthe * United Nations Secretary General Ban

Message to Presidential Nominees and Appointees, and Members of the President-elect's Transition Team:
The Presidential Transition Act of 2000 (P.L. 106-293) authorizes the General Services Administration (GSA) to develop a transition directory in consultation with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The Act provides that the transition directory "shall be a compilation of Federal publications and materials with supplementary materials developed by the Administrator that provides information on the officers, organization, and statutory and administrative authorities, functions, duties, responsibilities, and mission of each department and agency." Senate Report 106-348 clarifies that the directory is intended to "assist in navigating the many responsibilities that fall on a new administration" that is "confronted by an overwhelming amount of material." GSA and NARA hope that this online directory will introduce you to the operation of the Federal government and the resources available to help you begin your service in the new Administration. If you have questions or comments about this directory, please contact us.
More news has come out about the makeup of Obama's Cabinet. The New York Times reports that Penny Pritzker is a leading candidate for Commerce Secretary:
Two other leading contenders for cabinet positions emerged late Wednesday, Democrats with knowledge of the process said. Gov. Janet Napolitano of Arizona was poised to be offered the position of homeland security secretary, and Penny Pritzker, a Chicago businesswoman and national finance chairman of the Obama campaign, was in the final stages of vetting for commerce secretary.
A longtime friend of Mr. Obama, Ms. Pritzker was a chief architect of his record-breaking fund-raising efforts during the presidential campaign. Ms. Priztker is one of three cousins who manage their dynasty's financial empire, which includes the Hyatt hotel chain, casinos and many other ventures. But some of Ms. Pritzker's business dealings may also raise tough questions during any confirmation process. She was involved in running and overseeing Superior Bank, an Illinois institution co-owned by her family that was at the forefront of turning subprime loans into securities, the risky practice at the heart of the financial crisis. The bank collapsed in 2001 after regulators discovered accounting irregularities that overstated its assets.
CNN also reports that Pritzker is the leading candidate to head the Commerce department:
Also, multiple Democratic sources say billionaire Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker is Obama's choice for commerce secretary.
The sources say she will accept the job, which would be formally offered after vetting is complete. Pritzker ran Barack Obama's record-breaking fundraising effort, serving as the campaign's finance chair.
WASHINGTON — What does an accomplished man of the world get for his 66th birthday?
Well, President-elect Barack Obama already gave Joe Biden the vice presidency. So, for his birthday, Obama gave Biden two ball caps and a rendition of the birthday song.
Biden's birthday is Thursday, but Obama surprised his No. 2 after their weekly lunch Wednesday at the transition office in Chicago. According to staff, Obama presented Biden _ a Delaware senator with decades of foreign policy experience _ with a dozen cupcakes decorated with candles and teased, "You're 12 years old!"
Staff reported that Biden, ever astute in the art of politics, laughed at the his boss's joke. He responded: "Maybe in dog years!"
Obama led the rest of the staff in song, then handed over some Chicago-themed gifts: a White Sox cap, a Bears cap and a bucket of Garrett's popcorn, a hometown favorite.
