As the motorcade pulled onto Van Buren, towards the Loop, a couple in a tan sedan tried to drive around the heavily-armed line of vehicles, wrote pool reporter P.J. Hufstutter of the Los Angeles Times:

The SUV cut the car off immediately, and the security team aimed their weapons at the car. The driver and passenger in the sedan stopped, and looked stunned — until the male driver appeared to understand what was happening (your pool reporter could see him mouth “Obama”). The motorcade continued on. The sedan remained stopped, near the side of the road. [...] Some of the drivers here in Chicago do not seem to understand that a) the Chicago police car at the end of the president-elect's motorcade is serious about having traffic pull over when the officers flash their lights and hit their sirens, and b) it's not a great idea to jump ahead of traffic by trying to cut around the black SUV filled with five heavily-armed secret service CAT members.

I've always suggested Richardson for Secretary of State – however, I bet Obama gives him an ambassadorship to a country we need to get back on our side as allies, and it would serve Richardson's talents equally.

What's important is who's nominated for AG. I would have said John Edwards, but you know the media's waiting to get in that ass about cheating on his wife. Any thoughts on who should head up the Justice Department (they will have to fumigate it, first).

Amy Carter went to DC Public Schools (when they were in good shape). Carter was concerned about spending taxpayers money to educate his daughter, and from all accounts, Amy came out with straight A's.

Wouldn't allow my dog to attend DC Unified School District, let alone the wee Michelles.

Georgetown Day School – good, but a lil' far from the White House. They should make friends pretty easy, though.

In this week's issue, there was no “Obama Wins” headline on the front page; only a headline that emphasized local county races. The first two paragraphs, written by the owner/publisher Bo Bolton:

“Barack Obama cruised to an easy win Tuesday to become the nation's first black president, but the majority of Monroe County voters gave their support to Republican John McCain.

With a near record county voter turnout of 68 percent, McCain had 6173 votes to Obama's 5,023, more than a 1,100 vote difference.”

Factually correct, but one can read between the lines a bit. Alright, you might say, its a small podunk paper with a conservative slant. What's the big deal? It's also a business, and apparently they didn't think much about that part. Much like every Wednesday morning paper that posted an “Obama Wins” headline, copies of The Press-Register (metro Mobile's daily) was quickly sold out in Monroeville and in other towns where its delivered.

Surely the Journal newsroom had to have heard about the rush on the Wednesday edition newspapers that referenced the history-making election–but the publisher didn't do anything. Oh, and the daily P-R sells for $0.75, the same price as the weekly Journal.

OBAMA RECEIVES CONGRATULATIONS FROM WORLD LEADERS

CHICAGO (AP) — President-elect Obama accepted congratulations from nine presidents and prime ministers Thursday, returning calls from world leaders who reached out after his presidential victory.
