This is NOT a sympathy note on behalf of Lieberman! Unfortunately most people don't understand the mind of Joe Lieberman except those who gave him the nickname of “holy Joe”. Lieberman believes that he is God's appointed protector of Israel in the ancient tradition of protectors. During the early centuries of the Jewish diaspora it was common for individual Jewish protectors to emerge who would secure an important position of advisor to the gentile King. The protector would then use his position to quietly, behind the scenes, provide security and assistance to the Jewish community ghettos in the kingdom. Holy Joe sees himself in this role and he executes it with fanatical zeal. Lieberman with this fanatic dedication will say any thing , do anything if in his mind it will ultimately benefit Israel. This is why his political positions are confusing. He is generally liberal on most mundae domestic issues, but when it comes to any issue that may effect Israel, he instantly becomes a right wing hawk. This behavior in itself exercised in a discrete manner would be generally acceptable. However, Holy Joe is such a fanatic that it is not possible for him to be discrete and hence he generates tons of political controversy for his sucking up to the Republicans who he believes control the real power in America.

With Begich's lead now growing in the Alaska senate race, the Dems get closer to 59 senators, once he is officially declared the winner. A moderate Republican or 2 will probably be swayed to vote with Democrats, so they obviously don't need Uncle Joe.

Leahy and another Dem senator have publicly called for kicking Uncle Joe off the caucus. Uncle Joe's calling Obama tells me that he sees the handwriting on the wall. Obama campaigned for him in 2006, and Uncle Joe turned around and kicked him in the teeth during the presidential campaign. I find it incredibly interesting that Obama resigned his seat, effective Sunday, Nov. 16, when the lame duck Congress session begins Monday, Nov. 17. Smooth move.
