rikyrah: First: I want ta know IFFFF SHRUB got all this type of "press" ever?? Did anyone eva want ta have an INTELLECTUAL/PROBLEM-SOLVING session or articles about him?? -Er, -um, -uh - NOT that I recall?
"WHYCOME??" BWAHAHAHAHA! SHRUB and INTELLECTUAL in the SAME SENTENCE??? :>) :>)
SECONDLY: Here's an article re Mr. President-Elect Obama:
The United States is the biggest prisoner of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp. How do we free ourselves? As Stuart Taylor Jr. underscores in Nov. 24 Newsweek's "Obama's 250 Tough Calls," the questions facing Barack Obama aren't quite as easy as his supporters may assume.
SKIP
Meanwhile, Newsweek's cover story, "Obama's Lincoln," may leave even some skeptics with the belief that there is a lot to Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals" notion as an influence on Obama's upcoming cabinet and other administration personnel choices. And most will surely learn that that the key Abe Lincoln lines quoted by Obama at his election night celebration ("We are not enemies, but friends...") were actually written for Lincoln by his fierce rival, William Seward, who wound up as Secretary of State.
---In Nov. 24 Time's "Bourne-Again Bond," film critic Richard Corliss calls Daniel Craig's James Bond in Quantum of Solace a "near mute: a cyber- or cipher-Bond with a loyalty chip implanted in a mechanism that's built for murderous ingenuity...He's a brute acting on instinct" Rambo of Her Majesty's Secret Service."
So it's pretty unclear if this version of 007 could handle Foreign Policy's "The List: Five Real Missions for 007." Back in the real world, it would love Bond to:
SKIP ---There was no shortage of analyses on Barack Obama and race during the campaign and just after his win. But if you want a really, really esoteric musing on race, try, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon: Marilyn Monroe and Whiteness" in Cinema Journal by Lois Banner, (subscription required) a professor of history at the University of Southern California and a frequent author on women and gender. "Despite the many studies of Monroe, no scholar has full examined her whiteness," Banner writes early on. Let's just concede the point.
SKIP --December Bon Appetit pays homage to Quebec City and its supposedly decadent eating habits, dating to 20- and 30-course meals in the 17th century. "There's a reason the clergymen were fat---what they were eating was incredible," says one current hotel chef. Elsewhere, if you're a "crustophobic" (fear of pie crust), there is blunt counsel on what to do to avoid store-bought crust. The magazine swears its three tips will work. Good luck.
SKIP ---So the economy is tanking and, informs Nov. 24 BusinessWeek, applications are up for graduate schools of business, with the magazine's own ranking placing the University of Chicago's atop the list. The reasons for the applications hike appear to involve so-called Millenials, those born between 1980 and 2000, seen here as "strong-willed, passionate, optimistic, and eager to work," and showing a greater interest than previous generations in going to B-schools at a younger age.
Ooooo-eeee! My head is hurting! :>) :>)
I will say it , AGAIN, President-=Elect Obama is a SINGULAR ECONOMIC STIMULUS!!! :>) :>)
President-Elect Obama! :>) First Lady Michelle! :>)
it's an interesting overlay, but then they threw in this bogus statement for no good reason:
"Obama self-identifies as black, but with a white mother and a Kenyan father, shares no personal, historical bond with the issue of black slavery in the US."
i'd like the author to grow up black in America and see if they'd share no 'personal bond' with the last 400 years. good luck with that

I know it may be a little late for another 'now what' column in regard to the impending Obama presidency, but this one's good.
Mr. Jones is mostly known for his sports column writing and for hosting a sports talk show on WDNC "620 The Bull" in Raleigh, NC. But he goes into a lot of different things on his personal blog, so check this post (and others) out.

"Now something has gone wrong with all three television sets. They will only get Sarah Palin."
"I can play a kind of Alaskan roulette. Any random channel clicked on by the remote brings up that eager face, with its continuing assaults on the English Language."
"There she is with Larry and Matt and just about everyone else but Dr. Phil (so far). If she is not yet on “Judge Judy,” I suspect it can’t be for lack of trying."
"What have we done to deserve this, this media blitz that the astute Andrea Mitchell has labeled “The Victory Tour”?
"I feel a little sorry for John. He aimed low and missed."

Funny stuff from Joe Scalzi - Imagined conversation between PE Obama and Traitor Joe.

So...because PE Obama is suuuuch a nice guy and he doesn't hold grudges and he soooooo believes in the goodness of humankind and he will soooooo forgive minor weaknesses in others if they're good at the job that they are hired to do, many are looking to him for redemption. Eliot Spitzer has joined the line. God, do they really think PE Obama is that naive?
I think Eliot Spitzer deserves a shot- especially if he is willing to consider Hillary call you everthing BUT the N word. And, Mcain. Nuff said. Spitzer made a bad call. It was sex, not embezzlement. And couldn't they give him a back of the house job?
Thoughtful article, and Iove the fact that she listed Michelle being a black women who's well edcuated and a good mother, and is confident enough to hire an all female staff. These qualities speaks volumes!!!
Love this statement to:
"And she's never been spotted in a pair of stuffy, uncomfortable pantyhose. Here's hoping she'll be the one to kill that archaic trend once and for all."
I LOVE MICHELLE OBAMA!

This shouldn't matter but apparently it means something to a lot of folks, so thanks for stepping up Wanda Sykes.
I'm not necessarily a fan of "outing" other people or oneself just because they love someone of the same sex. I don't have to "out" myself as a heterosexual, right? But if this helps members of our community, particularly the older generation, acclimatize, then, fine(of course any stigma attached to being gay does not only exist in our community sooo...).
T. ps. I must say that even though there may be a religious and generational resistance to the idea of gay marriage - not equality - I do not know of any of these folks who would deny a gay person a seat at Sunday dinner. You know us, the more people at the barbecue, the better. Like Elton John said this week, it may be that pesky word "marriage" that may be creating the resistance...who knows...
Hey T, thanks for the invite to the barbecue. Yumm. But I'm still mad that my insurance rates, income tax and a host of other pesky laws and regulations are based on my marital status.
T.
I feel you, Liza. The point that Elton John made is that in England, he and his partner have full rights as a heterosexual married couple, it's just that they don't call such a partnership marriage. I assume from what he said that the fight for equal rights in any partnership(rights under the federal marriage act) should be distinct from the fight for the word "marriage".
My heart is with y'all. I will do anything I can to help in my community; to let people understand the ramifications of you not having the same rights as everyone else.
T. In my ps. above, I hope it is understood that I mean that many of the folks who are balking now may be doing so not because they don't want equality but because they may not be able to fully embrace the concept of that word, "marriage", being between anyone other than a man and woman.
Alan Keyes is suing California to prevent its' electors from voting for Obama for president until he brings concrete proof that he is a natural born American citizen and does not hold citizenships from other countries like Indonesia and Kenya.
Give it up Keyes! He kicked your ass in '04 and he will kick it again next month when he's certified as #44.
What part of "dual citizenship" did Alan Keyes miss during high school civics class.
And what part of "carpetbagger" did he miss when the Illinois GOP imported his ass from Maryland to Illinois to take on Obama for the Senate Seat.
He needs to come clean about his gay daughter before I'd give him credibility on ANYTHING.
SLAVE CATCHER ALERT is right.
Miranda
What part of addition and subtraction did Alan Keyes miss? In ADDITION to being a dumb azz just on principle, can he not apply SUBTRACTION and understand that minus CA's 55 electoral votes, Obama is still the 44th? Hell, why is this fool taking up perfectly good space?
spirit_55z
School him, Miranda. Mr. Keyes needs to lean his reading, writing, and arithmetic!
mad funny... quite disheartening to see MLK reduced to a brand. he will, in this society be a brand in a way that cannot be controlled. no problem. tons of implicit brands out there:clinton, obama to name obvious contemporary ones.
but to have the thought and person of King be purposely and solely confined to the temporality of a brand? It's ain't Tide we're buying to wash away the evils of sanctioned ineptitude, unchecked greed, and racism.
[The King Center: "Some of this is probably putting food on people's plates. We're not trying to stop anybody from legitimately supporting themselves," he said, "but we cannot allow our brand to be abused. ...If you make a dollar, we should make a dime," Farris said. "That's not happening now."
How far from the Poor People's Campaign, the thing that accelerated the coming of his day at the Lorraine and caused the media to shut him out from 64-68 as he decried business for business sake and war for greedy ends.

"I really should have approvals over this kind of thing."
anyone read that article about Marian Robinson Michelles mom? Evidently shes moving in the white house with barack and the fam. How great is that. Conservatives preach family values but ive yet to see a republican president bring the First Granny in the white house to help raise children. Marian took care of sasha and malia while Michelle and barack were on the trail and he says youre coming too.
rikyrah
You know one of the best things about this election season?
the inability of the GOP to pull that FAMILY VALUES BULLSHIT.
How can you pull Family Values when you have a Presidential Candidate that threw over his first wife like she was a piece of garbage for the rich, hot young thing?
How can you pull Family Values, when you have a VP Candidate who married AFTER the baby was born; has a knocked up teen that they are forcing into a shotgun marriage, and a son that joined the military to avoid going to jail for drug charges (if the National Enquirer is to be believed, and I think it should in this case).
Town
She probably called all her friends and said "Lawd he wants me to come to the White House. Come. To. The White House."
And her friend probably said "Chile, you gon' be living up in that White House."
And they both said "Mmph, mmph, mmph."
You know that's how grammas talk! LOL
Seriously, conservatives only care about "family values" when it comes to white families. They will be the first ones complaining about Mother Robinson going to the White House and I guarantee one of them will say something about public housing.
Meanwhile the rest of America says "Now you know he's alright when he loves grammammas so much."
RobM
"Public Housing!!!!???" ROTFLMBAO
rikyrah
can you imagine? She's spent her entire adult life in that community, in that house, on the South Side of Chicago. And now, her daughter wants her to move to THE WHITE HOUSE.
As they say,...only in America.
The thought that she would move with them, for the family's sake, showing family values.
I've told ya - this is nothing new for Black folks. Black folks have always done this for family - but, it's been off the radar, out of sight for a mainstream who wanted to say that the non-working, crippled Black family was the norm.
Look at this - Michelle hasn't had a nanny, because she's had Grandmama.
Look at Barack's side, though unconventional, he and his sister were totally devoted to their grandmother.
Yes. Non-White folks love their families and have deep familial bonds.
Multi-generations in the White House.
Lawd hammercy!
Miranda
I can see all the mothers-of-the-church fussing over her and just grinning and chatting at the "farewell luncheon"...LOL...

LOL at "farewell luncheon", you know they're going to serve fried chicken and those little finger sandwiches with the pimento cheese.

Granny Robinson is thinking, for the last 60 years ive only seen pictures of it. Grew up an outsider here in the south side, now im the First Granny and im living in the white house. My granny would be wylin out.
true. the white christian male society. Im sure someone will say something crazy Rush or Savage. Either way they are only talk they are reserved to their wholes at the radio station while neither have ever been to the white house nor slept in it. Marian should tell them well to stick it
ANNNND, she will have her every need tended to. She doesn't have to cook if she doesn't want to, and if she wants to go someplace with or without the weeMichelles, all she has to do is raise her hand and wave over the SS guy to warm up the Chevy Surburban with the tinted windows.
She will probably have a SS code name just like Barack, Michelle and her grandbabies.
And if Michelle's brotha has kids, it's going to be fun to say "We spending Christmas at the White House."
rikyrah
he has 2, CPL. Thanksgiving and Christmas in the White House.
And Maya and her family too
spirit_55z
Co-signing, on FAMILY! Can't touch the family unit. What a bessings for Malia an Sasha to live with their grandma; a true well of wisdom and love. Family, we have each other's back.
Did you get your question about gay marriage and the church answered to your satisfaction?
rikyrah
pretty much. I do think I'm not the only one with those questions and possible misconceptions, and I think it's up to those who propose Gay Marriage to answer such questions clearly and honestly.
And do you think proponents of gay marriage have not been honest or clear about their reasons for supporting it?
rikyrah
No, I don't think that they have been clear and honest about gay marriage and it's ramifications. I don't believe they have honestly engaged the Black community, and dealt with the culturally specific opposition to gay marriage from within the Black community. Do I ever believe that there will be a time when gay marriage is supported by 70% of the Black community? no. Do I believe a 50/50 split is possible? Yes. And, if they get just a 50/50 split, I believe that a number of these heinous amendments would be defeated.

Magical Negro in Chief By Bijan C. Bayne | TheRoot.com In Obama, pop devotees of the black spiritual guide have found their ultimate savior.
No, a black man in first class doesn't play football! ORLANDO - So I'm sitting in seat 2B, headed to Hartford, Conn., and the white woman sitting next to me sits down. And after hearing the flight attendant say she expects me to sleep on the flight - I always do - she asks what I do.
I say I'm a CNN analyst. She says, "I thought you played football."
Dumb ass woman.
I turned 40 today. I've never played organized football in my life. What the hell is she thinking? I didn't ask her if she's a cheerleader!
If I snored, I would do my best to blow out her damn eardrums! Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed
ROFLMAO!!!! That is HYSTERICAL!!!! Twice I've been with a group of friends and one of the guys has been mistaken for an NBA player! We ate and drank our free meals on the house and didn't say a word....DUMMIES!
I don't understand these young newly successful people blowing all their money on bling. Why did he need two condos in Manhattan? A well designed one or two bedroom apartment (since he has a daughter) should be enough when you are starting out. Or live in Brooklyn (it's in now). How bad must your credit be to pay $718/month on a lease for a Tahoe or any SUV? It's New York, take a cab and fix you credit. I feel like there are a few things you need in life; a roof over your head, food to eat, classic clothing pieces that will last and a means of transportation. Everything else is extra and should only be purchased with cash after you've saved for a rainy day. That's how you build wealth. Bling builds bankruptcy.
