I'm not necessarily a fan of "outing" other people or oneself just because they love someone of the same sex. I don't have to "out" myself as a heterosexual, right? But if this helps members of our community, particularly the older generation, acclimatize, then, fine(of course any stigma attached to being gay does not only exist in our community sooo...).

I must say that even though there may be a religious and generational resistance to the idea of gay marriage - not equality - I do not know of any of these folks who would deny a gay person a seat at Sunday dinner. You know us, the more people at the barbecue, the better. Like Elton John said this week, it may be that pesky word "marriage" that may be creating the resistance...who knows...

I feel you, Liza. The point that Elton John made is that in England, he and his partner have full rights as a heterosexual married couple, it's just that they don't call such a partnership marriage. I assume from what he said that the fight for equal rights in any partnership(rights under the federal marriage act) should be distinct from the fight for the word "marriage".

My heart is with y'all. I will do anything I can to help in my community; to let people understand the ramifications of you not having the same rights as everyone else.

Conservatives preach family values but ive yet to see a republican president bring the First Granny in the white house to help raise children. How can you pull Family Values when you have a Presidential Candidate that threw over his first wife like she was a piece of garbage for the rich, hot young thing?

How can you pull Family Values, when you have a VP Candidate who married AFTER the baby was born; has a knocked up teen that they are forcing into a shotgun marriage, and a son that joined the military to avoid going to jail for drug charges (if the National Enquirer is to be believed, and I think it should in this case).

actually, I'm not opposed to gay marriage. I would never vote to amend any constitution to limit the rights of others.

And do you think proponents of gay marriage have not been honest or clear about their reasons for supporting it?

No, I don't think that they have been clear and honest about gay marriage and it's ramifications. I don't believe they have honestly engaged the Black community, and dealt with the culturally specific opposition to gay marriage from within the Black community. Do I ever believe that there will be a time when gay marriage is supported by 70% of the Black community? no. Do I believe a 50/50 split is possible? Yes. And, if they get just a 50/50 split, I believe that a number of these heinous amendments would be defeated.

I don't understand these young newly successful people blowing all their money on bling. Why did he need two condos in Manhattan? A well designed one or two bedroom apartment (since he has a daughter) should be enough when you are starting out. Or live in Brooklyn (it's in now). How bad must your credit be to pay $718/month on a lease for a Tahoe or any SUV? It's New York, take a cab and fix you credit. I feel like there are a few things you need in life; a roof over your head, food to eat, classic clothing pieces that will last and a means of transportation. Everything else is extra and should only be purchased with cash after you've saved for a rainy day. That's how you build wealth. Bling builds bankruptcy.
