Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.

I knew I should have booked hotel and flights for the inauguaration earlier. I swear I have found maybe only two hotels with a only a couple of rooms available, one for about $420 a night the other on Embassy Row going for roughly $700. Airfare is ridiculous too.
I am pretty sure I have gone through most of the listings on Travelocity and hotels.com.

Can anyone recommend any smaller Bed and Breakfast spots in the DC/VA?MD area? Maybe I will have better luck with a B&B vs. hotels.

Have you considered the McCain B&B in Virginia? I am sure there are openings for the inauguaration.

What CHURCH will the Obamas go to when they move to Washington? While everybody's talking Sash and Mal's school, I'm wondering about their church. Are there any "safe" black congregations in DC? Or, will they be too cowardly to ever step foot back into a church with a predominantly black congregation, for fear that they will be criticized by people who don't understand our culture?

And before anyone screams at me that I qualified the word "congregation" with the word "black", please remember that while the nationwide Trinity churches had a predominantly white membership, the Chicago location had a predominantly black one. And that's where they chose to go. I'm very interested to see what they're gonna do on this front.

So PE Obama and First Lady In Waiting Michelle, what church will it be? WIll this one be a political decision?

We've heard a lot about how the Latin@ vote and Asian-American vote were peaked towards Obama, but not much about Indigenous peoples. I wanted to put in an article I found regarding their vote. I love the part about how their own internalized racism is being slowly peeled back. It is so great to know that Obama is leaving a legacy for more than just us as African Americans. It has been a long time since the world has looked at us in admiration. I love this!

BTW: I am VERY concerned about the Clinton vibe that Obama is putting in his Cabinet, I'll make a note on that post later when I get out of this office and have some time to sit and write a serious note...

Gallop: 68% 'favorable rating' for Obama

President-elect Barack Obama comes away from Election Day with a 68% "favorable rating," the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows. That's up from 62% who said they think favorably of him just before the election. The poll numbers were released just moments ago.

Obama's pre-election 62% favorable rating was the highest of any major presidential candidate since Gallup began measuring it in 1992.

Meanwhile, President Bush starts his last 10 weeks in office with 68% of those polled saying they don't approve of the job he's doing -- a slight improvement from just before Election Day, when 70% of those polled said they disapproved.

I can't speak intelligently on Kerry's so-called "switfboating," because I wasn't there. But anyone who would denigrate our servicemembers-especially another veteran-really isn't deserving of the title, and I don't care what party they're in.

I think the thing with people like Rev. Rivers is that they have been on the front lines of the movement for so long that they are unwilling to hand over the reigns to the younger generation. No doubt we'll see a lot more of these power struggles.

I agree 100%. When I listened to Rev. Lowery on television, it moved me to tears. It is amazing that this 88 year old man with all his wisdom and historical knowledge so eloquently spoke of the importance of this election and of this president. Yet we have some older "leaders" who have an unbelievable desire of self-importance that they can't see life clearly.

I don't know why; a lot of the detainees in Gitmo should only leave there in a box.

What do they need to come here for? First off, where do you put them (do you build another Camp Delta on US soil?)? Who guards them (especially if they're in a civilian facility?

And why-again-do we need to extend to terrorists the rights we have as citizens? That road damn sure doesn't run both ways.

Calling somebody a terrorist doesn't actually make them a terrorist. I know that's been the legal standard for a while now, but apparently, that standard is about to change.

I'll be the first to say that some of the detainees in Gitmo aren't terrorists, and should be released as soon as their country or another can vouch for their safety (one of the little-known conditions that must be met prior to a detainee's release).

But for the ones who are-who documented evidence says have committed terrorist acts-they need to stay right where they are.

Because there is just NO way that "documented evidence" could be wrong.....right?

Let's take this guy, for example.

You see a need to bring him back here for a trial?

Do you seriously want to get in some tit-for-tat game on who's being held at Gitmo? Really?

Not in the least; I just want you to see that point that for everyone down there who was innocently swept up or ran with the wrong warlord, there are some insanely bad characters down there.

It's a common misconception about Gitmo that we just rounded up a bunch of innocent folks and shipped them off to Cuba as some sort of torture/interrogation project, which couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm sorry; I just have no sympathy or feel the need to extend the rights that people have fought and died for to a group of people who pray for the destruction of the very same country who's taking great pains to extend them every-and I do mean every courtesy while they're under our control.

But if you wanna play tit-for-tat, well, I suppose I remember a few things from my year down there. :)

This is the advantage Obama had over every candidate for President since Ronald Reagan and perhaps Paul Tsongas. He wanted to do things for the country, that he felt uniquely qualified to execute. I believe RR, TP, and perhaps Jimmy Carter wanted to move the country in a certain direction. RR was charismatic and succeeded. Carter and Tsongas were not good politicians. Carter has proven he is a moral person with genuine concern for justice and development.

None of the serious candidates in 2008 and 2004 were as in touch with the "do" part of President as Obama. The "be" president ambition will lead you to major in minors, as HRC and Johnny Mac campaigns did when they started losing.

There is a lesson there for all of us. What are you to do as a parent, Christian, Muslim, sister, brother, spouse, child, nephew/niece, cousin, uncle/aunt, etc.

IMO, this isn't much different than some of the vendors with no real ties to the campaign selling Obama T-shirts and swag. (For all of the donation money earned by the Obama campaign itself--imagine if they could earn a cut on all of the fakeries.)
