If I had to guess, I would be surprised if those organizations would play a more significant role in the scene than previously.

I didn't say anything was wrong with it. John Rogers has had a long commitment of Civic Involvement,going back decades. I've never heard anything nor read anything negative about the man. He truly does seem like one of the ' good guys'.

You are so right! The social calendar of the White House is going to look very different with a Black socialite in charge. I'm so excited. America will get to see some interesting things in the next 4 to 8 years. These picks continue to break down stereotypes about Black folks in general. We've always had an elite class but now it's going to come to light.

Off topic: Anyone know if these ladies are Greeks or part of other service organizations?

The Obamas are sending out a great message with these two appointments.

Barnes -

People who follow politics know that real power is with those who set the agenda. The fact that a "strong, Black woman" who happens to be progressive is going head up the Domestic Policy Committee is a big deal. A very, big, huge, gigantic deal folks.

Obama as a pragmatic, can come off very centrist, I was worried about this as he seemed to be surrounding himself with like-minded centrist politicians. However, this shows that he's not afraid to have these conversations. I like that someone who thinks our entire economic system is jacked up has a platform. (Although I do agree with rikyrah...she may or may not be bougie/Black elite).

Rogers -

Now this appointment when I heard about the possibility of it a couple days ago made my ears perk up. A Black socialite (with an impressive academic resume in her own right) running the social scene of the White House is gonna be ....different...for some folks to say the least, lol! You thought people had a fit trying to figure out where upper-middle class Black folk like the Obamas came from, wait 'til you see them try to wrap their brains around the fact that Black Elite/Black Wealthy Class exists! I'm gonna enjoy this, lol!!!
