I'm no Summers fan. What he said was sexist, period. And his defense of it to me was worse than him saying it. I always felt he was 2nd string behind Rubin, just picked to warm the seat until Gore was elected, and then he leveraged it for all it was worth. I can't believe there isn't someone better out there.

How about a post on RFK Jr. for EPA, which I am hoping and praying is a trial balloon?!?! Anyone who is as anti-science as he is on vaccines/autism should NOT be head of EPA. He's just not that good. Heaven knows we all appreciate the Kennedys support at critical times but that's not a good enough reason and there are lots of much smarter, just better folks out there for the job.

If that's true, then it's demonstrating that Obama's going to keep his promise to listen to US, the people who elected him.

I'm not comfortable with Emmanuel as his CoS; however, on that one, I trust Obama to put someone in who HAS HIS BACK. Emmanuel will sift through the BS coming Obama's way; especially from the CBC members trying to climb on the bandwagon these days.

According to Tom Brokaw on The Today Show, Larry Summers WAS the favorite for the spot, but that has since changed over the weekend. Too much baggage. He said that there's much debate within the Obama camp about who should fill the spot. Some want Paul Volker and perhaps have him teamed up with Timothy Geithner.

I agree with CPL. We have a right to analyze what's going on. Lack of analysis is why we're behind the 8 ball now.

I think this info about Summers being a top choice was purposely leaked to get a feel about what we think.

Summers willdowhat hehas done before. You don't choose people for high policy making posts because you imagine they will do something completely different from what they built their careers doing.

If Barack wanted smart and ethical economists who would unravel the mess there are plenty of those out there. Apparently he does not want that.
