I also don't like how hateful the Yes on 8 campaign has become. I will say that as I move around college towns in CA, I see more No on 8 signs than when I'm in more inland areas of the state with more limited access to higher education. Discussing the Mormon involvement in funding the legislation and discussing some of the hateful ringleaders would have certainly gone far. For some people there was an air of insincerity for opponents to come to neighborhoods that they had not had anything to do with prior to this Proposition to ask for support. I also don't agree that everyone who opposes it is inherently homophobic. Comparing it to slavery offends a lot of people who see it as a matter of choice rather than circumstance. What I hope people begin to understand as this election season winds down is that discrimination is discrimination and our willingness to condone discrimination against one group of which we are not a part, only condones future discrimination against a group of which we are.
