Speaking of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder:

Eric Holder is a racial-minority individual, and in his heart and mind he inevitably does not endorse hate crimes committed by George W. Bush.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

Yes, that's what Cornel West said on DemocracyNow, and I respect his opinion. But he also said that he wishes Obama could get away from appointing all these Clintonites. I just wish we could get some truly progressive people who stand unequivocally for human rights. Hopefully, Holder will reverse all the awful policies of Alberto Gonzalez under the Bush administration. And hopefully, the Colombian people who are being murdered and brutalized by the paramilitaries and Colombian army can find justice. I still plan to oppose his appointment. Thank you for your sharing your perspective, dchefron.

Holder indeed has a lotta shyt to clean up. The gutting of the civil rights division, those awful 25-year-old conservative religious colleges/ Regents University-types need to be swept away with pink slips, and the U.S. attorneys in every state need to be brought up to speed once more.

The Obama folks have already looked into the Marc Rich issue and confirmed with Republican Senators that it will not be used to block Holder's confirmation.

That RIch pardon his has been disucssed alot ever since he was first mentioned as the probable AG back when he was named just to vet VP candidates….and apparently thoroughly vetted for the AG job, and Obama is ok with it. I just don't think its a fight the GOP wants. I think his confirmation will be pretty smooth.

I can honestly say that I am confident in the choices Obama will make. He had to be damn near if not perfect to get to where he is now I doubt he will let a bad egg up into his camp. And am I the only one who is all of a sudden more interested into whats going on in Washington?

He participated in the pardoning of HRC AND WJC's trash Marc Rich.

Am I wrong that from what I am reading now, the nature of the participation was something like: when asked by Clinton for his opinion, Holder said he was neutral and sort of leaning toward it -- and Clinton then said this was part of the reason he (Clinton) issued the pardon?

If this is accurate, I think it would be wrong to disqualify him and that Clinton was wrong to try to foist off his OWN real responsibility onto Holder in any way. Where does the buck stop, after all? Seems like that's Clinton's issue. I mean if your boss asks you your opinion and you say "neutral leaning toward X" and boss chooses X and blames you for the choice in any way because you said that -- then to me boss has a problem with taking responsibility for his own actions and exercise of authority.

I'll bet as they vet WJC hs name is going to come up on the Library donor list in big numbers.

I'll bet as they vet WJC hs name is going to come up on the Library donor list in big numbers. He is going to be forced to deal w/ the Republicans on this issue. It will spill over into any attempt to have HRC at State.

Selfish me:

I am relieved that his name is coming up now rather than Janet Napolitano's (gov of AZ). She has been a sort of firewall of relative sanity between the nutso-extremism of our state legislature and the actual people of this state. If she left now, the Republican Secretary of State would move into the role of Governor. Which means that the actual people of AZ would be .... screwed IMO.

So if it's not our governor -- I say good! Good!

My Colombian boyfriend alerted me to this story about Eric Holder's possible conflict of interest due to his work as a defense lawyer for Chiquita Brands International. We both think he would be a very bad choice for Attorney General and would send the wrong signal to the rest of the world indicating more U.S. complicity with paramilitary death squads and major human rights violations in Colombia:

Here is an excerpt:

"Eric Holder would have a troubling conflict of interest in carrying out this work (U.S. Attorney General) in light of his current work as defense lawyer for Chiquita Brands International in a case in which Colombian plaintiffs seek damages for the murders carried out by the AUC paramilitaries - a designated terrorist organization. Chiquita has already admitted in a criminal case that it paid the AUC around $1.7 million in a 7-year period and that it further provided the AUC with a cache of machine guns as well.

According to Mario Iguaran, the Attorney General of Colombia, these payments to the AUC paramilitaries led to the murder of 4000 civilians in the banana region of Colombia and furthered the growth of the paramilitaries throughout Colombia and their violent takeover of numerous Colombian regions. Iguaran, in response to Chiquita's claim that it was forced to pay "protection" to the paramilitaries, stated unequivocally that Chiquita was not paying for protection; rather, "it was paying for blood."

I was working in DC when the Clinton Administration came into being. That was exciting and controversial as the Republicans handed off to the Democrats.

Oh how I wish I could be there as the Obama Administration takes over. While I am hoping Obama's team is not overwhelmingly “Clintonesque” I will understand if it works out that way…to an extent.
