Despite inquiries from the Obama transition team, House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) has indicated he’s not interested in becoming secretary of Housing and Urban Development, according to two sources close to the congressman. Clyburn is the third highest ranking Democrat in the House. He played an influential – if not official – role in the critical South Carolina Democratic primary when he urged President Clinton to “chill a little bit” after making critical remarks about President-elect Barack Obama.

It takes years, sometimes a lifetime to make a breakthrough in changing old ways of thinking, acting and being. That's why mentoring is such an important part of our legacy we can leave with our youth.<br><br>Somteimes we have to begin where we are. I came from a family of 13 children. I watched my mother scrub white folk floors and wash their laundry.<br>When she got hired at the county hospital, she scrubbed their floors too.<br><br>I loved my mother, but I just didn't like that she had to wash other folks floors. I went with her on the job and decided that when I grew up, I was going to be a nurse, and I did beome a nurse.<br><br>Me and my sibligs were fortunate in that we had parents who taught us by example, and they told us we ALWAYS had choices in life.
