Yes, indeed. We'll have to find new ways to talk about ourselves and our relationship to this country after today. Everything's not perfect, but it sure feels good.

When I read your post, I thought it has to be a common feeling for any proud person/American. I will feel like this again, even stronger, on January 20th, 2009.
I posted this on my blog site when Sen. Obama won the primary, way back then:

From a person that was born in a "third world country", whose birth place was destroyed during a war, who was moved at an early age to a place where no one looked like him or his family, who went to a hebrew nursery school (and didn't know any different), who spent many days in classes early on being the only black child in the room, who's father had to have a pass to show that he lived where we did, whose childhood was great because of friends that accepted him and his family without judgement, and that saw the greatness that this country has to offer from an early age:

Today is a great day, because anything is possible!

I feel as if this country just saved itself.

Interesting... I don't get wrapped up in all that Constitution and country stuff but I think I agree with you wholeheartedly: this could have been a very ugly, dark day (had stuff like Election 2000 happened; had the ugliness from the race rallies happened).

So, yes... This country saved itself even though I'm often reluctant to give it credit.

You're right! I'm sitting up in my chair a little bit straighter right now. Cory Booker is on MSNBC conveying this very meme.
