i'm excited that there was so much momentum in our community about getting people involved in the political process. it was great to hear our community extolling people to vote instead of hitting the club. i'm scared that we may forget that politics is a continual process, a continual struggle and that we need to keep on keepin' on even after barack obama wins.

What an insightful column to wake up to on election day. It captures my fears precisely. As a white woman I forever cling to the hope that as a nation we are not as racist as I fear. Today's outcome will force us to look in the mirror and show us who we really are.

We will either be encouraged that the good in us is alive or we will know that our fears have been realized. I want better for this country...I hope our countrymen want it enough.

Whether or not he wins, Obama has shown every one of us--and the world-- what intelligence, dignity, eloquence, compassion and determination look like. He will forever remain one of my greatest American heroes.

I am too excited and too scared to go to sleep tonight....and yet I must, because I am a poll worker in my local precinct starting at 6:30am tomorrow. I do not live in a swing state, nor could I travel to one. So I will work at the polls all morning, then make some calls for Obama to swing-staters in the afternoon. At 9pm, I am meeting with a few like-minded friends, either to celebrate or to mourn, at a local restaurant.

I hear our better angels calling---I know you hear them, too. The question we can't yet know the answer to is how many of our fellow citizens, fellow voters, will heed that call. During this long campaign, I've seen enough and heard enough and read enough to make me both scared and hopeful.

Will I be able to bear the final results, whenever we know them? Will I be able to obey gravity if he wins? Will I be able to rise up with pride and dignity intact if he does not win?

Will Senator Barack Hussein Obama really become our next President? Some people think I'm nuts for even thinking that it matters....but it does. It does matter to me. Our country matters to me, because it is where my three children are being raised. A President Obama offers them the best chance to grow up in a country that is moving forward towards good things.

I've spent a part of each and every day for the past 10 months following this campaign, and sometimes participating in it as a volunteer and as a donor. Thank you, JJP, for being my online home for all things Obama---on good days, as well as bad. I couldn't have made it through without you.

Here's to victory, a landslide victory, not just for Obama but for all of us in America who want to pull together to work for a brighter tomorrow.

"Don't kick at the darkness; make the light brighter!"
