UPDATE: Obama deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand, who was recently dispatched to Florida for the last weeks of the race, told the Huffington Post's Seth Colter Walls that the campaign sent a couple of go-betweens to speak to Crist about expanding the hours for early voting locations.
"We had a couple of key supporters make a suggestion to him, to advance the premise that Florida elections need to be run very smoothly," Hildebrand said. "And that three or four or five hour waits for people to vote is not a smooth process."
Hildebrand declined to identify the individuals who took the Obama campaign's message to the Governor, saying: "this was not a pressure deal by any stretch. The Governor was incredibly cooperative, and recognized that this was best for the election process."

rikyrah: An NOW a word from the "AUTHORITIES":
Well, we've heard from one of the "presently jailed, would-be assassins." She said - "He's SORRY!"
Two white supremacists charged with plotting to behead blacks across the country and assassinate Barack Obama while wearing white top hats and tuxes were likely too disorganized to carry out the plot, authorities said, and their planning was riddled with blunders.
Paul Schlesselman, 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark., and Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells are accused of dreaming up the plan. While authorities say they had guns capable of creating carnage, documents show they never got close to getting off the ground.
Among the blunders: They drew attention to themselves by etching swastikas on a car with sidewalk chalk, only knew each other for a month, couldn’t even pull off a house robbery, and a friend ratted them out to authorities.
“Certainly these men have some frightening weapons and some very frightening plans,” said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, who studies the white supremacy movement. “But with the part about wearing top hats … it gets a bit hard to take them seriously.”
Despite making sure the plot was stopped, authorities did not believe Cowart and Schlesselman had the means to carry out their threat to assassinate Obama, said a federal law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
Asked whether the two suspects had Obama’s schedule or plans to kill him at a specific time or place, a second law enforcement official who also was not authorized to speak publicly said, “I don’t think they had that level of detail.”
SKIP
The plot referenced two numbers important to skinhead culture by aiming to take the lives of 88 people, and 14 of them would be beheaded. The number 14 refers to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children” and to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H. Two “8″s or “H”s stand for “Heil Hitler.”
SKIP
Attorneys for Cowart and Schesselman haven’t commented, but Schlesselman’s sister said Tuesday she spoke with him after the charges were made public. “He said he’s sorry about everything he’s done,” she said.
The plot was the third high-profile incident involving death threats against Obama in the last three months.
Raymond Hunter Geisel, 22, has pleaded not guilty to charges he threatened to assassinate Obama and President Bush. Authorities said Geisel kept an arsenal of weaponry and military gear and made the threats while attending a training class to become a bail bondsman.

John McCain has "Joe the Plumber" on the campaign trail attacking Obama.
Found this over at Faux News Trashy site---McCain is a dishonorable and shameless politician
'Joe the Plumber' Backs Claim That Obama Would Bring 'Death to Israel' Joe Wurzelbacher, on his first campaign trail appearance for John McCain, says he agrees that a vote for Barack Obama would be "a vote for the death to Israel."
October 28, 2008
Joe Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. "Joe the Plumber," on Tuesday twice agreed with a claim from an audience member at a John McCain rally that "a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for the death to Israel."
Wurzelbacher was hitting the campaign trail on behalf of McCain for the first time, joining former Rep. Rob Portman on a GOP bus tour through Ohio.
At a stop in Columbus, he fielded the question on Israel from a self-identified Jewish senior citizen.
The questioner said he was "concerned" with Barack Obama's associations and "It's my belief that a vote for Obama is a vote for the death to Israel."
Wurzelbacher responded: "I do know that."
The questioner then complained about Obama's tax policies and reiterated his Israel comment.
"Well, you know what, I'll actually go ahead and agree with you on that one," Wurzelbacher said. "You know ... no, I agree with ya.'"
Wurzelbacher's first trip to the podium as a McCain surrogate was freewheeling. He often apologized to reporters gathered in a flag store for talking from his gut.
"I'm honestly scared for America," Wurzelbacher said.
He later said Obama would end the democracy that the U.S. military had defended during wars.
"I love America. I hope it remains a democracy, not a socialist society. ... If you look at spreading the wealth, that's honestly right out of Karl Marx's mouth," Wurzelbacher said. "No one can debate that. That's not my opinion. That's fact."
Though "Joe the Plumber" has become a centerpiece of McCain's campaign in the closing days of the presidential race, McCain aides told FOX News the Republican nominee does not share Wurzelbacher's opinion on Obama's view toward Israel.
Obama states on his Web site that he strongly supports the U.S.-Israel relationship, as well as Israel's right to defend itself and foreign assistance to the country.
McCain, though, has suggested Obama's commitment to Israel is not as deep as it should be.
A McCain TV ad out Tuesday ridicules Obama for saying Iran, whose president is openly hostile toward Israel, is a "tiny" country that "doesn't pose a serious threat."
The narrator says: "Terrorism, destroying Israel, those aren't serious threats? Obama -- dangerously unprepared to be president."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Today, Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher hit the campaign trail on behalf of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for the first time, joining former Bush OMB Director Rob Portman on a GOP bus tour through Ohio. Stopping at a flag store, Wurzelbacher twice agreed with a questioner who said that “a vote for Obama is a vote for the death to Israel.”
Fox News brought Wurzelbacher on to discuss his claims, but despite host Shepard Smith’s best efforts, Wurzelbacher refused to explain why he agreed with the nonsensical claim:
SMITH: Joe, do you know Barack Obama’s positions on Israel?
WURZELBACHER: Listen, I know you wanna really get some answers on this one, I’m just not gonna help you out here, Shepherd. Let people go out and find, that’s what I’ve been telling people. […] Listen, you don’t want my opinion on foreign policy. I know just enough probably to be dangerous.
SMITH: Yeah, well that’s what I was kinda wondering.
Smith also read a statement from the McCain campaign standing firmly behind Wurzelbacher’s absurd claims:
While he’s clearly his own man, so far Joe has offered some penetrating and clear analysis that cuts to the core of many of the concerns that people have with Barack Obama’s statements and policies. … [T]here is good reason to question the judgement that Obama would bring to the Oval Office.
Huh? John McCain has no shame.Joe The Plumber is an idiot

Obama could actually win this thing! If that happens there will be a lot of people (some of our co-workers included) who will be afraid that an Obama presidency will usher in the end of days. They'll be watching us on November 5th (the day after the election) for 'signs of the end' times. To keep the peace and keep a lot of folks from getting nervous, I think we should develop a list of acceptable celebrations and behaviors we should probably avoid - at least for the first few days:
1) No crying, hugging or shouting 'Thank you, Lord' – at least not in public.
2) No high-fives - at least not unless the area is clear and there are no witnesses.
3) No laughing at the McCain/Palin supporters.
4) No calling in sick on November 5th. They'll get nervous if too many of us don't show up.
5) We're allowed to give each other knowing winks or nods in passing. Just try to keep from grinning too hard.
6) No singing loudly, 'We've Come This Far by Faith' (it WILL be acceptable to hum softly).
7) No bringing barbeque ribs or fried chicken for lunch in the company lunchroom for at least a week (no chitterlings AT ALL! This may make us seem too ethnic too soon.)
8) No leaving Kool-aid packages at the water fountain.
9) No Cupid Shuffle during breaks (this could indicate a little too much excitement.)
10) Please no Moving on Up music (we are going to try to remain humble.)
11) No grits, chicken & waffles and half & half for breakfast in the office
12) No Obama Shuffle on the back parking lot or down the hall to the conference room.
13) No singing loudly…"Ain't No stopping Us now"
14) No block parties circling the perimeter of the White House

Mayor Daley Predicts 1 Million At Obama Election Party Source: CBS 2 Chicago
Mayor Daley predicted Tuesday that more than a million people would descend on Grant Park for Barack Obama's election night "celebration" and said the city has no plans to screen people entering the park.
The mayor said "everybody's talking about" the Obama celebration.
"It's gonna be surprising. There's gonna be a lot of people who will want to come down and celebrate…We hope it's a million or more. It would be wonderful."
The Chicago Sun-Times reported this week that the Police Department's retired resident expert on security planning has been hired back-this time on contract—to quarterback logistics for the Obama rally.
The city is not going to screen people? What does that mean?
This article is irresponsible. I can't believe Daley would say something like that in public.

Poll numbers don't look good for John McCain these days. But the internal dynamics are even worse.
A Pew Research poll released on Tuesday reveals that the Arizona Republican is not only trailing substantially (19 percent) among early voters, but faces political obstacles that seem downright insurmountable. Despite devoting countless airtime and speeches towards distancing himself from George W. Bush, more people today believe McCain would be an extension of the current administration's policies than they did just one week ago. As Pew reports:
"As disapproval of President Bush's job performance has edged upward, fewer voters say that McCain would take the country in a different direction from Bush's. Currently, more voters say McCain would continue Bush's policies than say he would take the country in a different direction (47% to 40%). Just a week ago (Oct. 16-19), voters were divided over whether McCain would continue Bush's policies or not (44% continue, 45% take new direction."
Making matters worse for the Republican ticket, the same-as-Bush perception is getting stronger among the Independent voters that McCain needs to court.
"Independent voters have become substantially more likely to say McCain would continue Bush's policies (37 percent in mid-October, 48% now) than to say he would take the country in a new direction (50% in mid-October, 38% now)."
Indeed, it appears that much of McCain's efforts this past week to cast his candidacy as the one to help the working class have been for naught. Buried in the Pew polls findings is this little nugget: "Half of voters say that, if elected, McCain 'would do too much for wealthy Americans.'"
These findings suggest that Barack Obama's efforts to paint McCain as an copy of Bush have paid off. But the current race for the White House is being played on an uneven field.

Don't know if this story was already covered, I just saw it. More idiocy from the GOP in trying to suppress voters.
Judge orders Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, Ind., early voting sites to stay open; GOP to appeal by Tom Coyne / Associated Press SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Early voting centers that Republicans contend increase the risk of voter fraud will remain open in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago under an order from a special judge, who said closing them could jeopardize people's fundamental right to vote.
A Republican official said the party would appeal.
Lake County Superior Court Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider acknowledged that "regrettably, Lake County has had a history of public corruption and voter fraud." But she said there are several safeguards in place for in-person absentee voting, including a state law requiring voters to present photo identification and access to registration checks through a state voter database.
Kavadias Schneider sided with Democrats, who have argued that many residents of the three cities cannot get to Crown Point to cast early ballots and will not have time to vote on Nov. 4.
The judge noted that travel to Crown Point from Gary, Hammond and East Chicago "is impractical or impossible" and challenged the plaintiffs and their attorneys to go to certain intersections in each city and attempt to travel to Crown Point by public transportation.
"It is highly probable that they would find it difficult, if not impossible, to do so," wrote Kavadias Schneider, who was named by the Indiana Supreme Court to hear the case.
The case has taken on racial overtones, with some Democrats questioning whether Republicans are trying to suppress votes by minorities likely to favor Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Indiana has not chosen a Democrat for president since 1964, but polls show this year's race between the Illinois senator and Republican John McCain to be close.
Kavadias Schneider said providing early voting in predominantly white Crown Point but barring locations to the majority of Lake County's black and Hispanic residents would violate the federal Voting Rights Act.
"It is not reasonable or fair to allow voters residing in Crown Point or in close proximity thereto to cast and early ballot there, while at the same time requiring the many more voters in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago to make an onerous and lengthy round trip there to vote," she wrote.
The ruling noted that there has been no evidence of any voter fraud since the early voting centers opened and that Republicans had provided no proof that they "will suffer any injury if the voting continues."
Lake County GOP Chairman John Curley said Wednesday evening that the party would appeal, though he was not certain what court would hear the case. Messages seeking comment also were left at the offices of attorneys for the Republican Party.

rikyrah: I just saw this. Their own campaign is "doubting their Health Plan!":
Another admission from the McCain campaign that their health care plan is nothing more than a bunch of right-wing platitudes thrown together without any real serious thought as to how to solve the health care crisis. From CNN:
Changing the tax treatment wouldn't hurt the employer-sponsored system and would allow more of the uninsured to buy their own coverage, [the McCain campaign says]. Also, his advisers say a McCain administration would keep an eye on the credit to make sure it didn't lag behind the cost of coverage, while also working to lower the rate of medical inflation.
Younger, healthier workers likely wouldn't abandon their company-sponsored plans, said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain's senior economic policy adviser.
"Why would they leave?" said Holtz-Eakin. "What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit."

Charlie Crist does the right thing:
Gov. Charlie Crist signed an executive order today, extending the hours for early voting during the current general election.
"I have spoken with the Secretary of State and members of the Florida Legislature and have concluded that it is always the right thing to do to give voters every opportunity to cast a ballot," Crist said. "I have a responsibility to the voters of our state to ensure that the maximum number of citizens can participate in the electoral process, and that every person can exercise the right to vote."
Effective immediately, early voting sites will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, and for a total of 12 hours between 7:00 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 1, and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008.
I will remind folks that: 1. it was the Florida GOP in the State Legislature that CUT the number of hours for early voting, as well as cut the number of early voting polling places 2. Crist was the one who restored felon voting rights.

McCain Phone Bankers Quit After Refusing To Peddle Low-Brow Obama Smears
It's nice to see at least some people in the McCain campaign still have standards.
TPM:
Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.
Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger."
Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it's located in Hobart, IN.
One time I was watching a documentary on Walmart. The part came on when they were discussing Walmart operations in China and the deplorable conditions the workers lived and worked in.
He turned to me and said, mommy, walmart is making those people slaves!
Now whenever we go near a Walmart he says, "oh no, we are going to evil Walmart!"
Congratulations to the Virginia NAACP for being proactive and learning the lesson of elections past! They have rightly identified the signs of underhanded attempts to suppress minority voters, and have chosen to take action while something can still be done.

rikyrah: Found a criticism of the McAncient Health Plan. [I don't know how to ONLY access the single article. So I just posted it. :>)]
MCCAIN'S HEALTHCARE CONTRADICTION.... How bad is the McCain healthcare plan? So bad that the McCain campaign is now undermining its own proposal.
Douglas Holtz-Eakin, McCain's senior economic policy adviser, told CNN that younger, healthier workers probably won't give up their employer-sponsored healthcare plans because they would have no incentive to change. "Why would they leave?" said Holtz-Eakin. "What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit."
That's true. Taking a credit given by a McCain administration onto the open market would be very unappealing, especially those who are getting "way better" employer-sponsored healthcare.
But here's the thing: this isn't supposed to be the McCain campaign's argument. As Ezra explained:
Young workers are cheap. They don't need much health insurance. The theory of the McCain plan is that because of this, they will take their tax credit and head over to the individual market, either purchasing very cheap health care or no health care at all. This, in theory, will bring down total spending.
Holtz-Eakin is saying the theory may not work. The individual market sucks. You can be eliminated for preexisting conditions. Administrative costs are sky-high. There is no protection against the whims of your insurer. The same policy you had with your employer will, for these reasons and others, cost $2,000 more on the individual market. As such, young people may not exactly want to throw themselves into that situation.
Moreover, what young folks get from their employers is much better than what they'd receive on the individual market. Employer-based coverage plans are not aimed at young people who don't need much in the way of health care. They're aimed at older workers, and workers with families, who do. If the young workers, who are the good insurance bets, can't get better coverage on the individual insurance market, imagine how much worse the coverage will be for those who actually need to avail themselves of health care services.
Quite right. And what makes McCain's plan so striking is that it would discourage employers from providing the "way better" healthcare, precisely so workers would take McCain's credit onto the open market. "Why would they leave?" Holtz-Eakin asks. Because McCain wants them to.
"What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit," Holtz-Eakin argues. Well, sure. The next question, though, is why Holtz-Eakin's boss believes the smart thing to do is to push Americans away from their "way better" healthcare, taking inadequate credits that the McCain campaign now concedes are worse than the status quo.
Update: Atrios' summary is far more straightforward than mine: "So, the [McCain] plan is to increase taxes on people with decent health care plans and provide a tax credit for people to buy shitty ones. That's some wealth spreading we can believe in, my friends!" —Steve Benen 1:20 PM Permalink | Trackbacks | Comments (3)

rikyrah: K.O called McAncient out yesterday - calmly- to "SAY SOMETHING" on the Stevens case. Here's his TEPID RESPONSE:
UPDATE: Sarah Palin has told CNBC's Maria Bartiromo that she believes Stevens "needs to step aside and allow our state to elect someone who will be supportive of those ideals of America."[MIND YOU - SHE WORKED WITH HIM!!!]
On Tuesday morning, John McCain called for Sen. Ted Stevens to step down after the Alaska lawmaker was found guilty on seven counts of corruption charges, while a campaign aide suggested on television that Sarah Palin would not vote for the embattled legislator in his tight reelection race.
"Yesterday, Senator Ted Stevens was found guilty of corruption. It is a sign of the health of our democracy that the people continue to hold their representatives to account for improper or illegal conduct, but this verdict is also a sign of the corruption and insider-dealing that has become so pervasive in our nation's capital," McCain said, adding: "It is clear that Senator Stevens has broken his trust with the people and that he should now step down. I hope that my colleagues in the Senate will be spurred by these events to redouble their efforts to end this kind of corruption once and for all."

Great rebutal, Cheri!
"In this case, I move that you simply be written off as the conservative kool-aid drinker that you are." By the time this election is over, they're gonna need Gatorade for all their sweating!
It hurt me to read about the skinheads and their plans. As unrealistic as they may have been, just the fact that they are willing to talk about them around other people, and actually have some weaponry was more than chilling.
Then I read what I wrote the last time this happened at the convention, and I had to think about this a little harder, because I can't let these people have that much control over what I think about.
Brown Man: I went "Field Trippin'" to your article.
Sadly, I have LIVED through some of the times of LYNCHING, KILLING, etc. As I've said B4, I still have the "EMOTIONAL SCARS!" I have lived around these type of people -fortunately- I didn't have the fear to speak up and out now, as I would have had back in my parents' and grandparents' day!
So, I'm saying that I expect the "HATRED" that these 2 exhibit! I've taught "skin-heads" - complete with steel-toed boots and RED shoe laces! And, you know, some of them have complemented me because THEY DIDN'T KNOW! They are carefully INDOCTRINATED in their homes, and sometimes, in spite of their homes. Parents cain't control them!! [Witness 'Harris & Clebolt' at Columbine High School].
Sooo, THESE PEOPLE have NO CONTROL over me in any form! I have learned when and how to "strike" against them.

GreenLady,
What gets me is the 2 thugs are ages 18 & 20 years old. That is awfully young to be filled with so much hate. Someone has been planting that seed probably since they were small children. Poor trash thugs!
GreenLadyHere
Justice58: Sadly, it is NOT 2 young. In education, we see it all. As a Director of Child Welfare and Attendance and a teacher, I have seen "hate-taught' elementary students! Annnnd, they were hard to break 'cause they were so controlled.
Evidence: I was the director for expulsion cases. I spoke to a father to ask him to come in for the "pre-expulsion conference." His 8th grade son was being recommended for expulsion for CONTINUED "racial harassment" of a variety of students. He was an =-opportunity bigot! :>)
So, he came to my office area, walked right past me to my secretary to ask for me. Meanwhile, I went into my office, 'cause I wasn't planning to meet him in the area. He HAD to MEET ME in MY OFFICE. Uh -HUH!! It don't go down like that!! :>) :>)
Soooo, my secretary brought him to the door, stuck her head into my partially-closed door and announced the Mr. Jones is here.
Well, I stood my African-American self up and asked her to show him in!!
Well, OXYGEN MASKS should have dropped down from the ceiling - 'cause "home-boy" [NOT] turned as RED as he could!
Annnnnnd, I professionally extended my AA hand and said: "WELCOME! PLEASE HAVE A SEAT! and Tommy, you can sit here! :>)
IT WAS A MAGIC MOMENT!! I HAD THE POWER!! And I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!
He squirmed! But, you know what I did: I made his son say EXACTLY WHAT he called the last student. [A Black Nappy-Headed MF.] And I stared at his father the whole time. He was motionless! It was fun!! :>)
Then I proceeded to hold a Loooong "COUNSELING SESSION" with his son. I didn't let the father open his mouth!
END OF THE STORY: The FATHER SHOOK MY HAND and THANKED ME for TREATING HIS SON FAIRLY. THE SON HUGGED ME.
"Today was a good day; didn't have ta use my AK!"
No! Not all conferences ended that way; but, this shows how some kids are brainwashed.
P.S. The son was expelled by the Board of Education.
THE END! :>)
Justice58
IT WAS A MAGIC MOMENT!! I HAD THE POWER!! And I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!
I enjoyed every minute of listening (reading) to it. That was great! What a shame for a child so young to have their mind destroyed with so much hate. You handled yourself very well! Props! :)

If the Obama family doesn't obsess about it, then I guess we shouldn't either. Still, it's distressing that when Black school children are threatened with violence the mainstream media can't be bothered to be concerned. They rarely, if ever, show concern about the well-being of Black children. Rather, they have the nerve to try and whip us up into an obsessive concern about endangered white children.
Had this threat been made by two Arab boys; had they planned to kill 102 white kids (beheading 14 of them), culminating in the spectacular assassination of Sarah Palin; the media would be all over this 24/7, and the Republican party would have deputized the NRA and taken to the streets.
we'll have to get used to this. hadn't thought of it as such, but those girls will live a unique experience in world history. they look to be built for it, though, taking right after mom and dad. a lot of the threats will be hype, jokes (yeah they'll call it that), and perhaps real - what they have in common is that for O and the family, they gotta treat a lot of these as viable. It's a necessary part of breaking the molds in this society - glad they have the courage to do it, knowing full well what it entails.

A phony State Board of Elections flier advising Republicans to vote on Nov. 4 and Democrats on Nov. 5 is being circulated in several Hampton Roads localities, according to state election officials.
In fact, Election Day for voters of all political stripes remains Nov. 4.

Talk about VOTER SUPRESSION! It comes in many forms!!! I see it!!
A GOP strategist just said that they want to take advantage of the "fact" that Barack overpolls but under performs.
In the primaries, he overperformed the polls in almost every state he won (or lost) except New Hampshire. In the states he won, he overperformed the polls by an average of 5 points.
So the GOP strategist said they were going to take advantage of this "fact" in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
It's going to be a long night.
Val
Craig we all know that they are going to spin as much as possible in favor of McCain or to give McCain the illusion of a win. My guess is it isn't really to give McCain the edge, but instead to add to the drama of Nov 4. They want a squeaker and not a landslide because they want you up until 3 a.m. in the morning.
We can continue to state the case for Barack on why he WILL win and why we can't afford for him not to.
Micheline
Where did you hear this? I hope that the reporter actually pointed out that Obama usually over-performed the polls.
The MSM is focused on Pennsylvania, taxation lies, and smears.
They're trying to help the GOP steal another election.
My mother said we live in a virtual dictatorship and if the GOP steals three in a row, then she, as usual, is right.
There were reports that soldiers from Virginia in Kuwait weren't going to have their votes counted over some technicality on the ballot.
Imagine that. Denying our troop overseas from casting a vote in Northern Virginia. If we sit by and allow these things, we are no better than the scoundrels who keep duping us.
I haven't read anything here on the subject, but if you recall most of the soldiers Barack visited in Kuwait this summer are black.

Last night I watched a video at MSNBC where Rachel interviewed Howard Dean. She mentioned that the vote suppression issues kept her up at night, and wondered if Dems were deliberately not promoting these stories so as not to scare voters off. Howard said they have fixed most of the suppression problems....I thought WHAT??? I don't follow legislation there, do you guys know of anything Democrats have done to prevent vote suppression tactics?
To my eye, they've done absolutely nothing concrete in the years since the elections were stolen. Surely, if the ballots of troops are being disqualified for clerical errors and poor ballot design....then how can it be said that they've done anything?
Justice58
Wasn't the reporter David Shuster, I'm not sure? He has a habit of letting some things go unchallenged.
Yep. I used it on one of my blogs around the time the article came out in Vogue.:)

News Orgs Investigate Possibly Fatal McCain '64 Car Crash
For the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual.

Didn't hear it. I stopped listening to Steve's show. On the other hand, Barack was on the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning.
GreenLadyHere
RonneB: So I went looking for the youtube on that show. Initially it came up on Real Clear Politics. But then it said that the video was no longer available.
O.K. I said, I'll look elsewhere, but in the meantime, I found some polling data!
But once you’ve made a narrative choice, you do have to stick with it - you can’t just keep bouncing around, or people become confused. If you are telling the story of a scary vampire, you can’t decide in chapter 2 that he’s also 500 feet tall and radioactive and bent on destroying Tokyo, in chapter 3 that he is actually a giant man-eating shark, and in chapter 4 that he is all this and a super-terrorist trying to plant a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles. All of these things are, indeed, scary, but taken together they add up to a muddle.
This is the problem. It’s not just the McCain campaign’s problem - although their inability to pick a narrative and stick to it is a special kind of inexcusable - it’s a problem for the entire wingnut noise machine. Obama is a Marxist Muslim Arab Jesus Black White Terrorist Technocrat Racist Do-Gooder Liberal FDR Stalin Hilter Commie Fascist Gay Womanizing Naive Cynical Insider Noob Boring Radical Unaccomplished Elite Slick Gaffe-Prone Pedophile Pedophile-Seducing Liberation Theology Atheist Etc. & Anti-Etc. with a bunch of scary friends from - wait for it! - the Nineteen Hundred And Sixties. It makes no sense. It’s a jumble sale of fears and scary associations from 50 years of wingnut witch hunts and smear campaigns, a flea market of pre-owned and antique resentments, and if one does detect a semi-consistent 1960’s motif running through it all, that’s because that’s when most of these ideas were coined.
I agree. Made the point a few months ago, when it was obvious that they were vacillating between
Barack Obama, the next coming of Huey Newton
and
Barack Obama, the Black Frasier Crane
These two images CANNOT possibly co-exist with one another.
That's why the caricature of Michelle Obama as a latter-day Angela Davis was no good.
HOW in the hell could the Black Fraiser Crane be with Angela Davis? doesn't make any sense.
RonnieB
While this is oh-so-true Craig, it is the mainstream media who continue to make these musical-chair narratives possible. Without their assist, McCain and Co. wouldn't be able to bounce from scheme to scam the way he does. And McCain knows it.
You are so right about this. Not only do they have a problem with the contradictions of the core ideologies of the GOP.
Their problem is also one of marketing, more specifically messaging. They have been unable to create a stable brand identity for the McCain/Palin ticket (at least not one that is positive). Ironically, these multiple attempts to clarify their message has further corrupted any hope of a positive message.
Obama's camp was smart to seize on this and call it exactly what it is...
Poll: Obama Ahead in Ohio, Way Up On Early Votes A new SurveyUSA poll gives Barack Obama a 49%-45% lead in Ohio, with a ±3.9% margin of error. The key number from the internals is that 22% of the likely electorate has already voted, and they've gone for Obama by a 56%-39% margin, with the two candidates tied 47%-47% among the remaining 78%.
The Indianapolis StarNews withheld any endorsement for President of the United States.
This is significant.
The Indianapolis StarNews will endorse the Republican named Satan over the Christ if he was running as a Democrat.
They have eight editors - all Republicans ranging from the Christian conservative wing to the clothcoat economic moderates. They split in the room 4 to 4.
This is as good as endorsing Obama in the eyes of long-time Indiana observers. They never endorsed Roosevelt. They endorsed Nixon three times and had a difficult time defining Watergate as a crime. They defended the excuse of anti-Catholicism in editorial against the candidacy of John F. Kennedy. The Indianapolis StarNews, in the words of RFK, is the most conservative newspaper in the country.
We can cite the shock of the Chicago Tribune or Anchorage paper endorsing Obama. A non-endorsement by the Indianapolis StarNews is akin to an Obama non-endorsement by the KKK or full Obama endorsement by the John Birch Society.
Yeah, they are that conservative at the Indy StarNews.
The article basically says that because Obama was a community organizer in the high crime areas associated with many of the murders that he's responsible!
What will you GOP shills think of next? We're seven days from the election, and it ain't looking good for your team. You can try, but you cannot stop the momentum of a movement that would rather be driven by hope than fear.
What a joke that the title of your blog is American Thinker. I motion that the name be changed to something more fitting, something like Rantings of a Raving Non-Thinking American.
People who use the type of misinformation presented in your article to support their racist tendencies are despicable. I would respect you more if you practiced a little intellectual honesty, and admitted your real reason for not wanting Obama to be president.
Oh, pardon me, in order to practice some intellectual honesty you'd have to be capable of an outward display of some semblance of intellect. In this case, I move that you simply be written off as the conservative kool-aid drinker that you are.

Hi Cheri,
I had not seen the article until you posted it but I have seen comments posted in the comments section of various websites the last few days.
As a lifelong Chicago resident, anyone can tell you Mayor Daley runs this city not Obama. Daley runs it with an iron fist. Also, the epidemic of crime in Chicago's inner city is so nuanced one could not point out a single cause (nor resolution) to end it. That being said, many of the ills may be sourced to poverty, lack of employment opportunities and drugs. This is an epidemic that will take the collective resources of all branches of goverment and the community to overcome.
Although I live in Wisconsin, I am from Chicago too, and you're right about that. Daley has had the city on lock since he was elected.
I also agree with you regarding the source of crime. Something has to be done to give people better opportunities. On the flip side there are a lot of people who need to get off their behinds and do something with themselves instead of waiting on a rescue. They just need to stop acting so damned helpless.
