Here's our daily composite of the six major national tracking polls. Barack Obama continues to lead John McCain by a healthy margin, with a slight dip in McCain's support today: • Gallup: Obama 52%, McCain 42%, with a ±2% margin of error, compared to a 52%-43% Obama lead yesterday.
• Rasmussen: Obama 50%, McCain 46%, with a ±2% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.
• ABC/Washington Post: Obama 53%, McCain 44%, with a ±3% margin of error, the same as yesterday's numbers. This is the second day of the ABC/WaPo tracking poll, and the first day we're including it in the Composite.
• Hotline/Diageo: Obama 47%, McCain 41%, with a ±3.4% margin of error, compared to a 47%-42% Obama lead from yesterday.
• Research 2000: Obama 50%, McCain 42%, with a ±3% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.
• Zogby: Obama 50%, McCain 42%, with a ±2.9% margin of error, compared to a 50%-44% Obama lead yesterday.
Adding these polls together and weighting them by the square roots of their sample sizes, Obama is ahead 50.5%-43.1%, a lead of 7.4 points, compared to the 50.5%-43.7% Obama lead from yesterday, when the ABC/WaPo numbers are included in yesterday's total.
Rep. John Lewis defended his criticism of the tone of McCain’s attacks on Obama at a forum on the 1965 Voting Rights Act last night at the Paley Center for the Media in New York.
“My only reference was to the toxic language that reminded me of another period, and rather than using George Wallace’s name, I probably should have used Joe McCarthy’s, and they wouldn’t be accusing me of using race. But it's hate speech," he said in response to a question from Pat Mitchell, the head of the Paley Center, according to a transcript from the event.
He said of Obama: "I see in this election as a down payment, as an installment, on making the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. and a dream of America real, moving us closer to a truly muliti-racial democracy to build in the beloved community. I think he is the personification of the hopes and dreams and aspirations of many, many people.”

That’s right. In a national NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll 55% of Americans now feel that Sarah Palin is unqualified to be President, up from 50% two weeks ago. As we all know, breaking that 50% mark is pretty convincing. I think that we can now safely say, that according to Americans, Sarah Palin is not qualified.
We’ve been spreading the news since the morning of August 29, and it seems that it only took 54 days to convince the majority of the country. Not bad.
The one candidate whose popularity has fallen is Gov. Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee. Voters are less likely to see her in a positive light, and much more likely to report negative feelings.
Fifty-five percent of voters say Gov. Palin isn’t qualified to be president if the need arises, up from 50% two weeks ago. And when given a list of possible concerns about Sen. McCain, voters were by far most likely to say they worry about Gov. Palin’s qualification to be president.

Other numbers on the rise?
People who think the country is on the wrong track is at a new high of 78%.
People who rated their interest in this election as a 10 on a scale of 1-10 is at a new high of 81%.

Sarah Palin's college years left no lasting impression
In the five years of her collegiate career, spanning four universities in three states, Palin left behind few traces. Not many professors or students even remember her.
One reason that made me think that Obama was a different kind of leader had to do with his TECHNOLOGY PLAN: ie encourage a diversity of media ownership, safeguard privacy, removing the safety net for online predators, information privacy etc. If oyu haven't familiarized yourself with his plan see here: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/technology/
One of the candidates doesn't use the email. One of them recognizes it is here, and it is here to stay. Guess who is the latter.

RNC appears to shell out $150K for Palin fashion
The Republican National Committee appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.
According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.
The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.
The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.
Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.
OK, this REALLY upsets me.....they went to Saks and Neiman's and managed to get the perfect "down home, we just regular folks" look? Oh hell naw, that is insulting to those of us who love high fashion! They could have gone to Sears and JC Penney's for a fraction of that for what I have seen on them! I'm pissed....how dare you waste a perfectly good spending spree at Barney's to look like the clearance rack at Ross Dress for Less?? I am appalled.

There is a place reserved in hell for that racist Pat Buchanan! Just saying!
Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.
Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business.
.......
After Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain chose Palin his running mate and reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to previously filed expense reports for her daughters' travel.
In the amended reports, Palin added phrases such as "First Family attending" and "First Family invited" to explain the girls' attendance.

rikyrah: O.K. I'm going to present this article [DATA] because I believe that Mr. Obama's campaign would have sustained a GREATER/MASSIVE ATTACK by the PRINT media had these "people" been in FULL FORCE! It's been ENOUGH that some of them have "found a HOME" in the McAncient/The Gov. campaign!
So, I'm just noting that the DEMISE of this sociological phenomenon has been a GOOD THING!
I'll attempt to SUMMARIZE with the POINTS OF THEIR DEMISE: [Don't want to offend. :>)]
1. Bill White, head of the American Nationalist Socialist Worker Party has recently been JAILED "on suspicion of making threats against a juror who was on a panel in 2004 that convicted a white supremacist of plotting to kill a federal judge."
2. There have been FEW reports of VANDALISM. That Republican Women's group in CA. - got put "ON BLAST" for its "faux food stamp: and was forced to make an APOLOGY. This DIMINISHED their effect! Yaaa! :>)
3. Mark Potok, director of intelligence at the Southern Poverty Law Center observes that “Hate groups are in a more or less stunned position right now; they haven’t been able to figure out how to proceed just yet.”
4. "Some attributed the relative lack of activity so far from white supremacist groups and other sources of racial attacks to the same cultural shifts that led the Democrats to become the first major party to choose a black presidential nominee."
5. “It’s not like we’re finally reaching Martin Luther King’s promised land,” said Michael Gehrke, the research director for the Democratic National Committee, whose unit monitors such activity, “but as a political force, they’ve been marginalized.”
6. "In one sign of shifting mores, James Knowles, a former Ku Klux Klan member who was convicted in a 1981 lynching, said in a Discovery Channel documentary by Ted Koppel that Mr. Obama was a potentially acceptable candidate. “People need to vote for him because of his ideas and the veracity that he displays in what he does, and not because he’s African-American,” Mr. Knowles said. [Hallelujah - a CONVERSION!! :>)]
7. "White supremacist leaders, while threatening some political action before Nov. 4, similarly attribute their relative lack of activity this year to demographic and societal changes they cannot stop. But they also point to a Republican candidate, Senator John McCain, whose liberal immigration views and staunch support for Israel are against everything they stand for."
8. "On top of that, the leadership is plagued by scandal and infighting in the absence of a unifying group like the Ku Klux Klan, which is no longer pre-eminent even among open racists, or figures like the former K.K.K. leader David Duke, whose power waned after he was convicted on fraud charges early this decade. (Mr. Duke has, in fact, written positively about the prospect of Mr. Obama’s being elected, though arguing it would stir a white backlash and “result in a dramatic increase in our ranks.”)" [CONVERSION? :>)]
9. "Mr. White’s Web site abruptly went offline this month. On Friday, The Roanoke Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had seized his computer equipment as part of the investigation that led to his arrest. Mr. White told the newspaper he had posted the address of a juror who served on the panel that convicted the white supremacist Matthew Hale of plotting to kill a federal judge in Chicago. But the newspaper quoted him as saying he had not called for any particular action against the juror. Arrested late Friday, he is being held without bail."
10. "Another leader, Alex Carmichael of the League of American Patriots, has sued Mr. White for linking him in an article to what Mr. White called the “pedophile sex network” of Kevin Alfred Strom. Mr. Strom, the head of the now-defunct white supremacist group National Vanguard, was released from prison this fall after serving time for possessing child pornography."
11. Some RACIST literature was supposed to be distributed in Michigan - BUT Mr. White is IN JAIL!! :>)
IMHO, this information is HUGE! Because of the DEMISE of THESE ORGANIZATIONS, RACISTS and their sympathizers have been DEPRIVED of THEIR HATE-FILLED MACHINERY!
When Joe Wurzelbacher’s name slipped into last week’s debate, and Joe the Plumber was born, another version of a repetitive theme took hold. Senator Barack Obama has made racial progressive history a footnote of his candidacy, preferring to make his statements ecumenical, embracing. Not only has he underscored his humility by doing so, he has reached out to a broad coalition (using his words) of Americans who claim more than one or two allegiances that extend beyond ethnic designations. Though, as he gains the trust of voters everywhere by solidifying his American tale as simply another of the many stories in our fold, media outlets continue to harp on Joe the Plumber. Before Joe, there were the hard-working middle class voters: a euphemism for white voters. Before the hard-working middle class voter, there were the Evangelicals. Let’s not forget Joe Six Pack. And before him, there were the Reagan Democrats.
The media pundits, from left to right, from newspapers to television broadcasts, have been silently rooting for the Joes of the world by leading with stories about Senator Obama’s seeming inability to convert the “hardest working” segment of the voting population, namely white males. The insinuation here is both dangerous and offensive. It’s as if Obama will never convert Americans to vote for him if he doesn’t first acknowledge that white men must be the lifeblood of the entire country. It gives primacy to the notion that some votes matter more than others, and that this is the central ethic of American life. The heartland is rendered a mythical place to house the Joe morality scale, to represent the entrenched thinking of a so-called value voter.
Politics is not necessarily all about division, but its aim is to identify the needs of many splintered groups for the purpose of addressing a nation’s civic wants. During the political season, it becomes harder to differentiate lines drawn from divisions recalibrated: the Hockey Moms and the Joe Plumbers versus the community organizers and latte-drinkers. Lost in that shuffle is just how much a Hockey mom’s financial concerns parallel the community-organizing teacher’s financial concerns.
Yeah,I was glad to see Jack back too! He knows how to bring it,and you can tell that he's not just carrying on for the camera.he really believes what he's saying.
- When former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced his support for Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign on Sunday, the reaction was swift and predictable. Democrats hailed the endorsement as a serious blow to McCain’s campaign while Republicans dismissed the announcement and attacked Powell.
If the roles had been reversed and Powell had endorsed McCain instead of Obama, it’s possible that Democrats would have dismissed the importance of the endorsement and Republicans would have declared it the coup de grâce against the Illinois senator. That’s the way politics is often played.
But what made the GOP attacks against Powell so stunning this time is that Powell served under three Republican presidents and many consider is statement an act of disloyalty. And more importantly, several high-profile critics have accused the former general of putting race above party.
- Normally I do Top 5 lists, but Rush Limbaugh’s racist comments could not be limited by such a small number. Now that he has reared his ugly once again in saying that Colin Powell is endorsing Barack Obama because he is black, it’s time to ask ourselves why is Sarah Palin appearing on the show with such an astounding racist. Is she pallin around with bigots?
If John McCain was so eager to have Barack Obama repudiate the statements of his ’supporter,’ John Lewis, shouldn’t John McCain repudiate the extremely racist comments of his biggest right wing radio supporter, Rush Limbaugh.

So please do keep sending in those stories of how you're seeing the election and how the early voting is going.
Here's one from a Kansas Obama supporter:
I voted today. I'm a 33 year old, white criminal defense lawyer in southwest Kansas. The early voting is at the courthouse. I arrive to find 12 old white people occupying all the voting machines. I wait. A machine opens up. The 80 something white male who had been using the machine is now up at the front table asking if he can vote again. The lady running the table says "no, one person, one vote." He replies, "well, I just want to make sure we don't have some terrorist running the country."
This obviously catches my attention so I look at the old man. Our eyes meet. He points a bony finger at me and says, "Don't let it happen." Thinking this old man could one day kill someone and need my services, I don't say anything and proceed to vote.
As I'm leaving the voting room, the young black janitor is in the hallway in front of the room with his cleaning cart. "Did you do the right thing?" he asks me. "You know it." I say and we exchange a terrorist fist jab.
While I'm glad that he voted for change, there's something that concerns me about this story.
Note that he says nothing to the ignorant man (for fear that he will loose future clients), but he's willing to exchange the secret "terrorist fist bump" with a miscellaneous black guy when nobody's looking.
Damn that!!!
So the guy is clearly smart enough to know who to vote for. Good for him, but the world isn't gonna change until people start standing up to the ignorance. He had the perfect opportunity to do this, but instead chose to sacrifice nothing for the cause.
Why should I be impressed?
(sorry in advance if this sounds like an angry black woman rant, but that's how I feel.)

GOP Rep.: ‘Liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God’ [updated with audio]
Warming up a crowd in North Carolina on Saturday, Republican Rep. Robin Hayes offered the diagnosis that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”
His remarks came shortly after he had said he would “make sure we don’t say something stupid, make sure we don’t say something we don’t mean.”
Hayes had followed Rep. Patrick McHenry, also a North Carolina Republican, who laid out the choice between McCain and Obama.
“It’s like black and white,” yelled someone from the crowd.
Why is Joe the Plumber and Archie Bunker so special instead of:
Keyshawn the UPS guy?
Ronesha the hairdresser?
Jose the landscaper?
Maria the housekeeper?
Myung-Kim the shopkeeper?
Mohammed the convenience store clerk?
Hardeep the motel owner?
What's so special about Joe?
Absolutely nothing.
And what's sad about Joe the Plumber and Susie Sixpack is they are the first ones wagging their fingers in Keyshawn's face telling him not to depend on the government even as they have their hands out.
s
Town, there is no difference between Joe and the other Americans you cite expect possibly their political philosophies.
Let's say the difference can be described as "America's Promise" vs "The American Dream"
Obama, in his biographical video at the Democratic convention, proclaimed that in America, "one person's struggle is all of our struggles." In his acceptance speech, he artfully replaced the idea of the American dream with "America's promise."
'America's Promise" as a vision of government inspired by the concept of 'fairness' as it applies to taxing the wealthier citizens as well as by the biblical injunction to be our brother's keeper. Few would dispute the moral message, but many disagree that such religious imperatives are best translated into tax or economic policy.
So we've listened to Joe Biden question the patriotism -- of those who don't share Obama's economic vision. We've listened to Michelle Obama promise that her husband will make Americans "work" in his effort to fix our "broken souls." We've heard the candidate himself say that we should agree to higher taxes in the name of "neighborliness," and that he'd raise the capital gains tax -- even if it demonstrably lowered revenues -- "for the purposes of fairness." His "tax cut" for 95% of Americans is in large part a middle-class dole. He will cut checks to millions who pay no income tax at all and call it a tax cut.
In short, Obama's explanation to Joe the Plumber that we need to "spread the wealth around" is a sincere and significant expression of his worldview, with roots stretching back to his church and his days as a community organizer.
Maybe Keyshawn and Hardeep subscribe to this philosophy, where as Jose and Myung Kim do not.
They subscribe to a political philosophy that places the individual 'pursuit of happiness' as the ultimate freedom.
They know that 'life is not fair.' But they believe in the opportunity and their own determination and ability to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
They symbolizes an optimistic, individualistic vision of America. We each have our own idea of the American dream. Joe the Plumber's is to own a small plumbing company; yours might be something else entirely. In America, that's fine, because the pursuit of happiness is an individual, not a collective, right.
They don't see the economy as a pie, whereby your slice can only get bigger if someone else's gets smaller. They don't begrudge the wealthy their wealth; they only ask to be given the same opportunities. They look at countries such as France and, rather than envy their socialized medicine and short workweeks, they fear their joblessness and tax policies that punish entrepreneurialism. They look at America and see an open path to their own American dream.
Town
If there's no difference between Joe and everyone else, why are we constantly being asked to consider Joe's feelings? Why are Joe's feelings, fears, concerns and dreams above everyone else's?
Why does Joe feel he's entitled to the whole pie while everyone else should be content to lick the pie pan?
That is actually a Christian value....to help the least f us.
Also, you obviusly did not get what Town was trying to say.
Also, Joe the Plumber is a "Welfare King" (as your party would say)...right! right!...Ooops he's WHITE that is only used when the people involved are black.
Town, there is no difference between Joe and the other Americans you cite expect possibly their political philosophies.
There is a big difference. They are not valued in the same way as the mythical "Joe the Plumber" who can only be WHITE.
As illustrated perfectly in this post on a blog by a white man who can see the truth, euphemisms like "Joe the Plumber" "Hockey Mom" "Soccer Mom" and "Joe Six-Pack" are code words for white voters who are valued over all others:

Joe the Plumber and Sarah Six Pack are cool when the wealth is spread THEIR way. They aren't very happy when it's spread in Keyshawn and Juan's direction because they feel that Keyshawn and Juan don't deserve it. Basically Joe and Sarah want ALL of the pie except the burnt part of the crust and when a non-white says "don't give me that" they claim the non-white isn't "grateful.'

Wisconsin GOP Official Denounces McCain Robocalls, Endorses Obama
Now you know that's bad when someone in your own party calls you dishonorable. Just goes to show that people are opening their eyes to what these jokers about every day.

Forgot to add my favorite comments from the article.
The first Republican woman State Senator in Wisconsin history announced on Tuesday that she would be supporting Barack Obama, in part because of the negative tone of the McCain-Palin campaign and, specifically, the use of "dishonorable" anti-Obama robocalls.
"All of us should be extremely wary of the half truths and outright untruths that have been spread by the recent negative campaigning and shameful automated phone calls," said Barbara Lorman of Fort Atkinson. "While my admiration for Senator Obama has grown with his positive approach to addressing the challenges facing our nation, my disappointment with the McCain campaigned has deepened. The negative tactics are inappropriate, downright dishonorable and have no place in the State of Wisconsin."

Like I said yesterday I hope the McCain crew keeps on digging that hole for themselves because it's getting deeper by the day, as all the defections like this are bearing out.

In any case, whether or not you visit my site, I'm really, really interested to hear what others think about the article. I also don't know much about Samuels' other writings or political leanings, so if others care to fill on that too, I'd love to hear it. But now, I gotta get back to work!!!!

Are you smarter than a 3rd grader?
Palin Claims Vice President "In Charge Of The U.S. Senate"
Yesterday, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) sat for an interview with KUSA, an NBC affiliate in Colorado. In response to a question sent to the network by a third grader at a local elementary school about what the Vice President does, Palin erroneously argued that the Vice President is "in charge of the United States Senate":
I'm thinking that THP went too far with that story. I'm all for the gotcha moments, but to me what she said was generally correct. THP seems to just be splitting hairs on this one.
My understanding is that she was explaining the answer to a 3rd grader who asked the question, correct? I mean, would anybody ever say it like this to a 3rd grader?
"The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided."
Now I would certainly object if she had explained it this way to an adult. Especially the part about the VP being able to jump in there and help make laws "if they want to." But for a kid, I think this explanation is generally okay.
Val
actually the explanation is wrong. A VP is not in charge of the Senate. The constitution says otherwise.
Sepia
I think it's fair for HuffPo and Chris Matthews to roast her for this. This answer is just flat out wrong even if she was talking to a child. It's another in a pattern of Palin a) not knowing what a V.P. does and b) wanting the V.P. position to acquire more power (see her remarks at the Biden-Palin debate). This woman is like Dick Cheney in drag!
MsKitty: Good, sweet find! Co-sign on the "awww!" :>)

MsKitty
Now what was that about Michelle snacking on $400 caviar?
I love it. They make themselves look so silly beating the drum on every rumor they hear. They never want to focus on the issues because that's where it all falls apart for them.

Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote a beautiful piece about Barack Obama's Grandparents:
Maybe, just maybe, Joe Biden threw out this bait, McCain and the media took it and is running with it.
Voters care about the economy, not a national security threat.
So every minute the media and McCain talks about a national security threat and how unprepared Barack is, the less they are talking to voters about what they want to hear.
When you don't talk about what voters want to hear, voters tune out.
So let the media and McCain flail about something voters don't care about and watch McCain continue to suffer in the polls.
Miranda
Damn Craig....I'm with Anovelista...you're on to something. They're trying to run with Biden's comments....as if the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff didn't just give a ringing endorsement 48 hours ago. Who the hell would take Palin and Mccain seriously about Obama's readiness with a national security issue when General Colin Powell just said "I'm with him"....
ROFLMAO! OK, if that was even CLOSE to the plan, its absolutely brilliant.
I think you're on to something Craig. It amazes me how people think Biden is some kind of fool. He has definitely made mistakes in the past... but this is not one of them...
Their campaign IS a total farce. That's why the unlikeliest people (Ken Adelman, Christopher Buckley etc.) have been fleeing the GOP camp and/or "betraying" their party by endorsing Barack.
And, speaking of Sarah "I Can Go on SNL But I Can't Hold a Press Conference" - Maria Shriver (a former journalist remember) doesn't feel sorry for her:
Mark Salter may think that Sarah Palin is getting a bad rap from the press --- but not Maria Shriver.
She told me in a recent interview timed to her Women's Conference, to be held on Wednesday, that the media scrutiny "is the game you are jumping into. You have to be able to roll with that program."
"There is always a debate about the media," she says. "So I think Sarah Palin presents the image she wants to present. She is in charge of her choices. She is a grown woman, so she can decide, ‘Do I want to do a press conference or not? And if not, why not?’ That affects how you get covered in the media. It affects how you get depicted."
s
Sounds too clever by half, especially given Biden's propensity to run off at the mouth.
Voters tuning out is wishful thinking on your part too. IMO the majority of the electorate is in the process of making their final decision. Mccain has made in roads on his economic message and Biden's comments now allow McCain to restate his foreign policy credentials.
Do we really want to deal with a potential international crisis on top of everything else? Those who have placed their supreme confidence in Obama will say yes. Others will say no.
I can't fault McCain for fighting to the end. The voters will decide soon enough and end all the speculation.
Miranda
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! "McCain has made inroads on his economic message".......LOL!!
Val
great analogy Craig. I stopped watching the news since yesterday. Because I am sick of hearing that nonsense.
It's a straw man argument. And folks who can't pay their bills aren't paying attention.
Colin Powell told the truth and shamed the devil. The criminals are desperate to do something to turn people's attention away from his truth.
But they can't.
Powell is a senior statesman. Whether we like him or not, his stature can't be diminished, no matter how hard the criminals try.
He gave fence-sitters complete and total confidence to get off the fence and vote for Barack.
Everybody knows it.
Joe Biden has already made his case for Barack, so parsing his words is only going to backfire.
Just watch.
s
Biden spoke the truth. Whether or not it turns out to be a gaffe will depend on the outcome of the election.
Michelle
s, I strongly suggest that you stay away from invoking truth in public discussion.
You have proven by your actions on this site that you are a liar and speak from ungrounded rhetoric and not actual lived reality. As you are now, truth is your enemy. You stand opposed.
So I suggest you take care in what you invoke -- because its power may be on the rise and you are very clearly not accustomed to how that works.
So this is what I suggest to you: Step away from public invocations of truth and do what is needed to get your relationship with truth straightened out in a real way. You can't fake that. You really can't.
If I am correct in what I see now, the times where lies worked without consequence are coming to a close -- and s, you better look carefully at your life and see if you are really willing to take risks with the universe like invoking truth publicly while standing on deception.
Ask yourself if you willing to take the consequences of such acts, if you know what it means to do this without the usual protection you have received for your false foundations.
Because that protection you have been relying on may well be fading and I don't think you are accustomed to being accountable for what you do on this level, for real.
Take it or leave it, but ... know you have been warned.
GreenLadyHere
YEAH!, Michelle. I tried to warn her 2! She betta RECOGNIZE!! :>) :>)
Did you see Barack Obama go on The O'Reilly Factor last night-right into the belly of the beast? While we didn't want Obama to appear on FOX initially, he wisely chose the same night John McCain delivered his RNC speech (the same night FOX received some of its highest ratings) to make an appearance. Talk about stealing the GOP's thunder!
Obama was no doubt trying to appeal to conservative voters, since 88% of FOX viewers voted Republican in 2004. But FOX won't let their conservative base go without a fight. That's why O'Reilly needled and interrupted Obama, trying to get him to simplify many of his answers-a far cry from the softballs O'Reilly lobbed at many prominent Republicans like Rudy Giuliani in the past. And that's why FOX has been attacking Obama with the same relentless smear tactics that they used against John Kerry four years ago. Watch them use the exact same attacks.
Miranda
They quick to put somebody off the plane in the McCain camp! LOL....they are SO fifth grade!
Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann says it was a misunderstanding, and that her words were twisted on national TV.
“This interview was one where I did not call Barack Obama anti-American. Those words Chris Mathews put in my mouth and then later suggested they were mine. They weren't mine,” Bachmann said yesterday.
Liar
This is what Chris Matthews asked:
Matthews: So you believe that Barack Obama has anti-American views?”
Bachmann's response: “Absolutely. I'm very concerned he may have anti-American views. That's what the American people are concerned about,” responded Bachmann
Bachmann says she thinks this controversy will blow over------NOT!
Shoot, Tinklenberg better send a shout out to Chris Matthews for allowing Bachmann to put her foot in her mouth and start chewing!
At the beginning of the day, Tinklenberg had something like $4000 on hand. By the time that heifer Bachmann showed up on "Hardball" and began her Ann Coulter impersonation, Tinklenberg got hits over at "Act Blue" and managed to raise $500,000 dollars in less than a couple of hours.
Minnesota's going blue and too bad Bachmann decided to let her district know they need to get rid of her ass. YouTube is a BITCH.
I hear ya. He's well over the $700,000 mark now between ActBlue and his own website. That idiot Bachmann handed him the election. Al Franken may win too so Minnesota's gonna be as blue like the clear blue sky.:)
I notice when McCain came to Minnesota, Norm Coleman crawled under a rock and didn't come out until he left town.
Serves him right for stealing that Senate seat from someone more worthy to succeed Paul Wellstone.

D, you know they're going to tear down Guantanamo and turn it into beachfront hotels, condos and mansions on the cheap.
There will be no evidence of a prison. I know you haven't visited San Quentin (I have, to sing in the choir for the prisoners years ago) and we got to tour where people live on their island - some of them work in the prison. They have lovely old restored houses that would fetch $2 million on the markets (it is San Francisco Bay Area, ya know), and the housing floor plans were so fly, complete with island kitchen and shyt, you would forget that San Quentin was two blocks down the road.
My friend, it was a joke. I don't have a reason to doubt you.

It is beautiful. My father is Afro-Cuban and my mother is Jamaican. Cuba is beautiful. I have been visiting my family there for years. Europeans have had the beautiful beaches too themselves for years. You're right! That's all about to end!!!
MsKitty
I definitely want to go there sooner rather than later, because once the American interests get a foothold there will be a Hilton Hotel and Mickey D's on every corner.
islandgirl550
Trump has already purchased land... it will be a "bridge and tunnel" crowd very soon.
MsKitty, that's what I found so disheartening when I was at Oxford. While traditionally British, I looked at Pizza Hut, Mickey D's, Burger King and KFC and thought
"That's just soooo wrong. American invasion like that."
Of course I had no appitite for paying $10 (5 pounds) for a three-piece and biscuit when I know back home $10 buys a whole bucket of chicken....
I hope Cuba makes America pay through the nose for putting a Mickey D in that camp. LOL
MsKitty
Yeah, it is seriously out of control. The funniest instance of this I saw was when I was in Morocco this past New Year's. In downtown Marrakech there was this mega-Mickey D's (seriously, it took up half a city block) and they had the golden arches with McDonalds spelled in Arabic. Every time I show people a picture of it they fall out laughing.
Lawrence O'Donnell served up grilled Eagleburger (SoS) on Morning Joe.
They were talking about Biden's 'gaffe' and Eagleburger was trying to play up McUnstable's foreign policy experience. O'Donnell asked Eagleburger why he supported Reagan (and GWB?) both governors who had virtually no foreign policy experience who ran against people who had experience and the dumbfounded Eagleburger tried a McCain-esque show of false strength and asked, "What's your point?"
Dumbazz... He was the one trying to make the foreign policy experience point. I thought it was interesting that JFK's name was brought up as someone who was "tested." And you know, that's just the thing you hear all the time: that electing JFK was a mistake. lol
McCain's campaign is about stomping all over freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Another indication that the Constitution is just a general set of suggestions for them... he's more and more like Bush every day.
Justice58
Lawrence O'Donnell "was" giving it to Eagleburger!! He looked like a fool because he had no answer! His bs was blown apart! Ha Ha Ha!
FUCK JOE BIDEN!!! I say that as someone is truly supported the pick of Joe Biden, there is no excuse in this instance of "Joe being Joe." Two weeks to go and Senator Obama dealing with a family crisis, and he pulls this shit! He should be filling in, and instead they have hide him away and clean up his shit. Watching Senator Obama with Senator Clinton yesterday I couldn't help but wonder what if.

Would you prefer Sarah Palin? The Republicans are grasping for a life preservor as the SS McCain sinks.

Ya know I'm really tired of you coming on here concern trolling, woe is me, the sky is falling every time Barack Obama and Joe Biden dont shuck and buck how you want them to. FUCK YOU! PLEASE go write in Hillary's name, PLEASE go vote for John McCain, do whatever you like like T.I. says but don't insult our intelligence by coming on here pretending like you're so concerned about Obama when your main priority on all these posts is to a) tear down Barack Obama and b) prop up Hillary Clinton!
I C U troll, you ain't fooling nobody!
NMP
Ok, I've relaxed and released so not to peel your wig back. I was one of Biden's biggest supporters, and I thought and HOPED that he would take this last opportunity for executive leadership to show the discipline he never has. This is NOT his campaign, and you think he would be all the more careful. There are only two weeks left and polls, whether we like it or not, are tightening in PA and FL. Obama does NOT need these careless mistakes made by someone who is supposed to have his back. If you can't understand that, then FUCK YOU TOO!
s
Is it a 'careless mistake' if Biden's,... uh,... telling the truth?
Just like the 'Bitter/Clinging' remarks. Just like the 'spreading the wealth' answer.
I believe Obama and Biden mean what they say.
Obama is untested. He is inexperienced. These are facts.
Obama is in favor of a tax policy that puts fairness over freedom. Collectivism over individualism.
Biden means what he says when he states that the wealthy must pay higher taxes because it is 'patriotic.'
Obama really does think that something is "...the Matter with Kansas"
I for one, am thankful that voters have been able to see the 'unscripted' moments in this campaign because they have done more to inform me about the political philosophy and policies of Obama/Biden than any McCain attack ad or any eloquently vague speech by Obama.
This is the ticket you nominated. This is the ticket you believe in. Own it. Defend it...if you can.
This election HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT OBAMA. Could his inspirational oratory, his style, his race, his post-partisan image, his vague message of "Hope' and 'Change' transcend traditional politics and lead him to an historic victory?
Could his lack of foreign policy experience, lack of executive experience and thin record of achievement be dwarfed by his inspirational persona and political talent?
Would voters acknowledge his liberal voting record and his strict party-line votes? Would Obama's radical associations negatively influence voters and 'scare them away'?
This is a center-right country.
Obama/Biden are not center-right. If the voters want a 'safe' choice, and 'acceptable' alternative during this time of economic anxiety and wars left to be won, McCain will be the next POTUS.
S, stop trying to agitate and set back after you throw a flame, you damned troll.

Jay
Can you tell me why you support McCain and Palin ticket? I'd like to know what he/she has done to inspire you to vote for them.
s
First, CPL, Jay asked me to his question AFTER my comments to NMP.
Jay I am happy to answer you question.
Honestly, I DO NOT like Obama's tax policies because it effects me in a most significant way as an investor, saver, and successful entrepreneur who aspires to achieve ever greater success and hopes to leave a legacy of quality college education and security to my children and provide a secure retirement independent of Social Security. Right now, it makes absolutely no sense to raise taxes on any level, or to propose any new spending.
I am a proponent of smaller government and McCain will certainly grow government less than Obama.
I prefer McCain's "All of the Above' approach to energy independence. I support school choice.
I admire McCain's character and believe him to be a trustworthy man.
I support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan. I supported the surge and recognize the important role of John McCain ion bringing about that much needed change in strategy. I feel that he will be a responsible strong leader of our armed forces.
Suprk
I apologize for the length but I am tired of S.
S you say you are in investor so you prefer McCain? If really care about your portfolio, then you would prefer to have a Democrat in office rather than a Republican.
Since 1929, Republicans and Democrats have each controlled the presidency for nearly 40 years. So which party has been better for American pocketbooks and capitalism as a whole? Well, here’s an experiment: imagine that during these years you had to invest exclusively under either Democratic or Republican administrations. How would you have fared?
As of Friday, a $10,000 investment in the S.& P. stock market index* would have grown to $11,733 if invested under Republican presidents only, although that would be $51,211 if we exclude Herbert Hoover’s presidency during the Great Depression. Invested under Democratic presidents only, $10,000 would have grown to $300,671 at a compound rate of 8.9 percent over nearly 40 years. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2008/10/14/o...
Are you still whining the false story of taxes?
This is the standard Republican talking point which you never have any facts to back up. In September of last year President Bush gave a speech in which he attacked the Democratic record on taxes. He said the following:
"If they get control of the House of Representatives, they'll raise your taxes, it will hurt our economy, and that's why we're not going to let them get control of the House of Representatives. The Democrats have made their position clear. I want you to remember the last time they had control of the United States Congress back in 1993, they passed a massive tax increase."
Sounds like you S. Anyone recall what the Republicans were saying back in 1993? Here let me clue S in on what they were saying:
I believe this will lead to a recession next year. This is the Democrat machine’s recession, and each one of them will be held personably accountable.” - Newt Gingrich, August 5, 1993
“The Clinton plan is a one-way ticket to recession. This plan does not reduce the deficit, but it raises taxes and it puts people out of work.” -Senator Phil Gramm, July 28,1993
“This plan will not work. If it was to work then I’d have to become a Democrat and believe that more taxes and bigger government was the answer" - Representative John Kasich R-OH July 28, 1993
How much does this sound like S? Now history shows that every Republican in Congress voted against this and Al Gore broke the tie with his vote. So what do you think happened after 1993, with Clinton's tax raise on the top 2% of taxpayers? First of all Clinton's presidency was marked by a gradual reduction in budget deficits leading to four years of large surpluses and a tremendous growth of the economy. Job growth and wages under Clinton at this time was also tremendous.
Compare that with George Bush's presidency. Under President Bush we have seen a have seen record budget deficits.
Are you a fiscal hawk?
Over 70% of our debt was created by just 3 Republican presidents. Apparently the party that claims fiscally responsibility thinks it's ok to borrow massive amounts of money from foreign countries like China. Consider that we spend hundreds of billions of dollars in interest payments on this debt each year. That means more and more of your hard earned money is going to make interest only payments on what is basically a Giant National Credit Card. Not to mention the fact our debt/deficits are largely behind the weakness of our dollar, which in turns makes gas more expensive and creates other serious problems.
If you look at the 59-year record of debt since the end of WWII, the difference between the two parties’ contributions to our national debt level has change considerably. Since 1946, Democratic presidents increased the national debt an average of only 3.2% per year. The Republican presidents stay at an average increase of 9.7% per year. Republican Presidents out borrowed and spent Democratic presidents by a three to one ratio. Putting that in very real terms; for every dollar a Democratic president has raised the national debt in the past 59 years Republican presidents have raised the debt by $2.99.
I am a proponent of smaller government and McCain will certainly grow government less than Obama.
Bill Clinton's National Performance Review reduced the federal civilian workforce by 250,000 positions. This makes the last Democratic administration the only presidency since Eisenhower's to leave office with a smaller federal workforce that he started with - again, Bush, Bush, Reagan, Ford, and Nixon notwithstanding.
But, the real stones Obama brings to the table on this issue are his formative years on the south side of Chicago, doing meaningful community social work through voluntary, faith-based, non-governmental community organizations, rather than government bureaucracies. Yes, We CAN - rehabilitate the homeless, educate the illiterate, provide day care for single moms, dry out alcoholics, and clean junkies off the dope without buidling perpetual bureaucracies - Obama himself has proven that, through social entrepreneurship. By contrast, John McCain has never drawn a day's pay that didn't come from the public trough, courtesy of your tax dollars and by marrying an heiress or taking money under the table from special interests he did favors for doesn't count as 'earning money in the productive sector'.
Here is another fact for you to swallow S. Professor Larry Bartels out of Princeton, has shown that real middle class wage growth is double when a Democrat is President compared to when a Republican is president. Even more remarkable, the real incomes of working-poor families grew six times as fast when Democrats held the White House.
I know you are affluent, you could care less about the poor or the middle class. So when one looks at the incomes of affluent families there was pretty much the same and was impervious to partisan politics, growing robustly under Democrats and Republicans alike. It turns out that a growing lower and middle class can be a catalyst for our whole economy. It is called capitalism, look into it.
islandgirl550
S, let me just ask you..with regard to Iraq and Afghanistan... do you have any family currently serving? I ask because my brother is there for the 4th time. His wife struggles financially, emotionally, and psychologically from his multiple deployments. If you do have family serving how is this affecting your life?
Also, what is it about Obama character that makes him untrustworthy?

Are you kidding me!? No S, the voters do not want John McCain that stood before them and stated " "The fundamentals of our economy are strong" when Wall Street , Financial Markets were collasping around him & he didn't have a plan. The voters don't want someone who panics and displays erratic behavior during a crisis. The voters don't want someone who can't control his temper. John McCain is NOT the person this country needs to handle these critical economic times!

Look. I know that everyone here will disagree with me but the fact that you disagree with me does not invalidate my arguments.
After you stop spewing capaign talking points at me, the facts remain the same.
IF McCain wins it will be because Obama/Biden were deemed to be to far-left for the majority of voters and in a time of much uncertainty and anxiety McCain was an acceptable alternative.
So, let me get this straight; you feel safer with a BIGOT in charge of running the country instead of a man who can truly unite people across every barrier there is because you're worried about your taxes?
You sound like one who doesn't pay her fair share and dump the remaining bill on the rest of us who CANNOT AFFORD to pick up YOUR CHECK.

2. We really don't "spew talking points" because we have the intelligence to digest all the data/documentation that has been presented and THEN REPLY with LOGICAL and COGENT ARGUMENTS!!

Enjoy your investments and "smaller" government, because Bush was supposed to shrink the government eight years ago and it's bigger than it has been under the last four POTUSs.
If anyone shrunk the Government it was Bill Clinton. No one else has even COME CLOSE.
But, that's okay, cause I'm supposed to foot the bill for the damned taxes you don't pay.
You can GTHOH with that shyt, too.
Monie
There is an important point I want to make.
Obama's supporters are not only inspired by him but by THEIR power to make a change. I have never heard another candidate in my lifetime (and I'm in my 30's so I hopefully have a lot more of life to live) speak so eloquently to the American people in the terms of "we" and "us."
Now, I l know I can be hard on McCain, he is honorable and deserving in his right, but he is still largely centered on his own biography. McCain was even so arrogant, that despite his health history and the times that we face , he selected a "gimmick" for a running mate, who both conservatives and liberals, have called quite possibly the worst pick in our lifetime.
It took John McCcain months on the campaign trail and 3 debates to finally address the middle class---and now you hardly ever hear him utter the term "middle class."And now he's supposed to be the champion for regular folks---PLEASE.
Even if Obama loses this campaign electorally, he still wins. He has ignited a fire in so many around this country to get involved in the political landscape of our country. To put more focus on "being my brother's keeper." I see more diversity in pictures in Obama/Biden rallies--and that warms my heart. THAT IS THE PORTRAIT OF PRO-AMERICA .
If McCain wins, in my eyes, he loses. Why? Because McCain has tapped into realms of indecency that he once denouced. As a mother, i would never employ the same people who smeared my child in the course of a campaign. Colin Powell even remarked that McCain is one of the most discriminatory people he know but has chosen to become a demogogue--hoping to bring out the worst in people who he hopes to attract. I am ashamed of the tactics that have been employed on the McCain/Republican side.
And yes, this campaign has always been a referendum against Obama. He's had to fight the Clintons, other Democrats, McCain, Republicans, and the media. But throughout it all, the overwhelming consensus on all sides is that he has always done it with character, integrity, and remained collected. And that is powerful when you can be beaten, but still appear unscathed.
It is time to usher in a new era. Obama IS the best example of our future. But even if he doesn't pass the finish line---he has left a lasting mark on ALL Americans lives.
Every "fighter" does not have to be a soldier on the battlefield. Every battle is not about war. At the end, we all fight for what we think is right---even if we don't agree. You need to respect what we believe. I didn't vote against McCain....I voted for me, my family, the world, change, and democracy...and I think Obama best personifies my hopes.
I don't know if this has been posted already, but here are some links to voters getting heckled by McCain supporters in North Carolina. I mean this is ridiculous
Here is the article that mentioned the above video. There are some interesting tidbits, like a quote from a reporter on the scene (about the "protesters" and voters) ...
At the voting site, I asked a local sheriff monitoring the scene if the protesters were allowed. "They're fine," he said. I asked if he'd ever seen anything like that and he said he'd never seen Sunday voting.
McCain slammed Obama over Biden’s Sunday comments. BELTON, Missouri (CNN) – John McCain is seizing on Joe Biden’s prediction that his running mate would be tested in office.
"He guaranteed that if Senator Obama is elected, Senator Biden said, we will have an international crisis to test America's new president,” McCain said at a Monday rally in Belton, Missouri Monday. “We don't want a president who invites testing from the world at a time when our economy is in crisis and Americans are already fighting in two wars.”
At a Sunday night fundraiser, Biden said that within Obama’s first months in office, “we're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy" — and that it may not be immediately “apparent” that an Obama administration’s actions were the right ones.
“Forget ‘apparent,’” said McCain Monday. “Senator Obama won't have the right response, and we know that because we've seen the wrong response from him over and over during this campaign.
“He opposed the surge strategy that is bringing us victory in Iraq and will bring us victory in Afghanistan. He said he would sit down unconditionally with the world's worst dictators,” McCain said to boos from the crowd on the Heartland School and Academy football field. “When Russia invaded Georgia, Sen. Obama said the invaded country should show restraint.”
The Obama-Biden campaign didn’t wait for McCain to actually deliver the speech, putting out out a statement about an hour after the text of the remarks was e-mailed out.
“With our nation facing two wars and 21st century threats abroad, Senator Biden referenced the simple fact that history shows Presidents face challenges from day one,” said campaign spokesman David Wade. “After eight years of failed foreign policy, we need Barack Obama’s steady leadership, not the erratic and ideological Bush-McCain approach that has set back our security and standing in the world.”
Biden's comments aren't that big a deal, and there's a completely valid historical context for them.
All presidents are tested in some way, shape, or form...either by a domestic or international event. The only reason people are hypersensitive to a statement like this is because of 9/11.
This is a new level of GOP fearmongering: not that an incident's gonna happen, but that the person who gets to deal with it won't know how to.
Calm down, y'all. You're making this out to be a bigger deal than what it really is.
Break: why is McCain still insisting that the same surge strategy for Iraq will work in Afghanistan?
None of the above (though I only know who LaShawn is, and I'm not a fan).
S and I have been back and forth over on my blog. I won't get into all the details, but she's no less concerned about the state of things that you are. It's just as personal for her; she sees Obama as a threat to her way of life.
She's here to find out if she's wrong about that, and y'all have harassed her to no end. (whereas I came here with the express purpose of picking a fight, and just happened to pick up some friends-and a little sense-along the way).
My suggestion: hear her out and don't always give her the 3rd degree when you respond. Will you sway her? Most likely not. But didn't one of the candidates say that we can disagree without being disagreeable?
D, you proved that, even before you made the switch.
S has had factual evidence presented and continues to ignore facts in evidence. That's more like someone who watches Fox Noise and Bill O'Reilly in particular.
Anyone who can support a bigot to protect their tax bracket is not worth my time in trying to persuade them of anything because they believe they're right and I get tired of telling people like S to "watch out for that Tree!" before they plunge right into it.
I have asked her. She keeps spewing talking points; your'e the only one she spews these facts.
We've provided links to articles to back up our statements. I have yet to see a link to something that verifies her position, cause we might shred that, too.

Why wouldn't the clear and hold surge strategy apply to Afghanistan? We must apply the tried and true principles of counterinsurgency used in the surge: Protect the population; reduce violence; and increase the security needed for reconstruction and reconciliation. McCain has argued for an approach that embraces these principles, doubles the size of the Afghan army, establishes a unified military command and increases diplomatic efforts in Afghanistan and the region.
Because the "clearing" and "holding" has already been done. If you're assuming that it's not been done, remember we had to initially flood Iraq with our troops-the surge" to get it done. To the Afghans, that will read way too much like the Soviets in '79-80, and we all know how that turned out.
Notice how you don't hear a whole lot about violence in Afghanistan now, except for the odd spectacular attack? That's because the Taliban have to get back up into their safe havens before they become unpassable. Over the next few months, violence there will drop; it has every year since we've been involved there during this time.
What we need to do in Afghanistan is the part of the surge strategy that you left out: build. Which is what I think McCain's really trying to argue for. The problem is, whenever you say "we can use the surge in Afghanistan," all the uninformed see are 5 brigades packing their stuff. Again. And that's not what the American people want.

I agree.I remember when the Chinese forced down a Military plane and instead of going to DEFCON 1 Bush in one of his rare moments of level headed thinking diffuse the situation. What should be done with Afghanistan?First we should buy up the poppy crop.Second we should talk with the Taliban about incorporating them back into the Gov. if we can do that and work with the Pakistanis we can isolate Bin- Laden ,withdraw our troops and start to rebuild our economy and military because in the coming future we have much bigger fish to fry.
I don't think we should buy it up, but we have to give the poppy farmers something that makes it equally or more attractive for them to stop growing it. My thought would be some sort of exclusive trade agreement for x amount of years where we teach the Afghans how to grow a specific crop and then only import it from them.
Seems like the Taliban wants to talk now. I don't completely trust them, but that won't make the situation any worse.
Here's what I think the big problem with bin Laden is: we can't capture him. Not that we lack the ability. But if the US produces bin Laden from out of nowhere, I don't see that doing anything but giving him the "martyr" status he covets. Better to let the Iraqis, Pakistanis, or Afghans-or some "coalition of the Middle Eastern willing" do it.

GOP Fear mongering? No way.
Biden spoke the truth.
The truth that the GOP and McCain had stayed away from in order to avoid being labeled as fear mongers.
It is indisputable that Obama has no experience in foreign policy. Now, to many Obama supporters, this does not matter. To many Lieberman type Democrats, this is a concern that may require reassurance. To Republican voters this is a 'deal breaker.'
But let's not delude ourselves into thinking that doubts about Obama's lack of experience are completely unwarranted and therefore deserving of the being called 'fear mongering'.
And if, by your own admission, the McCain camp stayed away from it to avoid being labeled as fear mongers, guess what: they just walked right into it.
No, the fears aren't unwarranted. I have concerns myself. But McCain has to know the context behind what Biden was saying; he served-either in uniform or in public office-through a lot of it. And he knows that America's come out fine. The country survived Carter, didn't we?
s
D,
McCain stayed away from it, but now that the 'door has been opened' he would be foolish not to walk through it. This is his strength. This allows him the opportunity to contrast his actions and experience with Obama's. He should do this.
Did America truly come out fine after Carter?
The U.S. wore a virtual "kick-me" sign while he was in office.
Carter's policies and gross incompetence led to a sad state of affairs domestically and America becoming a laughing stock around the world. Remember the high unemployment, the double-digit inflation, the interest rates over 20%, the high gas prices, Carter's impotence as a bunch of Iranian radicals took our embassy staff hostage for more than a year, gave up the Panama Canal, left several South American countries to the communist dogs, smooched with the Soviets, and displayed more impotence when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan?
I think a better response would've been: "we're in a crisis now and you don't know what to do. Stop looking ahead."
But that's a tactics argument.
I was born into the Reagan era, and from what I've seen, we seem to have made it through Carter. When I was running down the win/loss record of "tested" US presidents yesterday for indie-ed, Carter was the one loss (with Clinton being a draw). Yes, from a historical standpoint, Carter seems to have done nothing good for the country (maybe that's why the Navy gave him a sub instead of a carrier).
But from all indications, we made it through.
s
You have made a decision that allows you to vote for Obama. Fine. Others may not be so comfortable. That's a choice we all have to make. I just think that McCain is seizing an opportunity to play to his strength and highlight the differences between himself and Obama. I also feel that it is unfair to call that 'fear mongering.'
I just think that McCain is seizing an opportunity to play to his strength and highlight the differences between himself and Obama.
S, McCain has had ample time to show the differences between himself and Obama and he didn't need to play the race card to do it, either.
He could have picked a qualified female VP running mate. He didn't.
He could have articulated about the economic crisis and told the truth. He DIDN'T.
He could have called out the crowds agitating for Obama's murder and racial threats. He only did so when the MSM and GOP leaders started abandoning ship.
He has yet to provide any facts that demonstrate on THE ISSUES how he differs from Obama. IN fact, his own campaign manager, Rick Davis, is on record stating this campaign would not be done on issues but ON PERSONAL ATTACKS. I'm not content with making the statement, I'm providing you a link:
Finally, McCain promised to run an honorable campaign. Please tell me where allowing crowds of your supporters to scream racial threats, racial epithets, trying to link Obama to people he didn't even know when he was 8 years old (Bill Ayers), continual lying about your opponent, attacking his wife and children while you have a VP candidate with enough ethical shyt in her closet, her husband's closet to fill in the gaps in the Grand Canyon - ties to groups wishing to secede from the Union and basically engage in movements against their own government; not to mention her children are poster kids for how to parent using "family values".
You say McCain's playing to his STRENGTH?
God help us all if playing to his STRENGTH is inciting fear mongering on a level the Bush Administration never even considered.
I'm finished trying to have this discussion with you. Go ahead and vote for a BIGOT, because in his way of association, YOU ARE A BIGOT, TOO.
....and I respect that, and your reasons why you can't vote for him.
I just think there's better ways of highlighting the differences than the ones he's choosing to use.
Monie
Exactly D.
But McCain's argument of pushing this is puzzling to me, since a financial CRISIS is occurring and he flailed like a "fish out of water" with his erratic and incoherent response. He had no clue what to say, think, or do.
To me, that is the most troubling aspect of McCain. He seems so narrow and singular----war and combat is all that matters. A further financial meltdown can really bring this country to its knees, impacting us more than another attack, IMO.
s
Look. Joe the Plumber and now Biden's comments have served to illustrate the very real, totally valid, concerns of many voters.
McCain has been able to use their words to craft a coherent message for the final push of this campaign. Let him run with it. Let the voters decide.
Do voters favor collectivism vs individualism? Will voters accept higher taxes on the wealthy, larger government, and more spending as a viable solution to the current economic crisis? Do voters trust Obama when he says that the vast majority of American will not face higher taxes?
Will voters allow themselves to elect Obama as Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces and place the security of this nation in the hands of an internationally inexperienced one-term Senator?
McCain is right to seize on these concerns. He is right to highlight the differences between himself and Obama. He is not in this this to roll over and submit to the will of those who wish to see Obama elected.
He has an obligation to his party to put up a fight. A duty to campaign up until the polls close on election day.
I agree that McCain has to fight to the end since the party that didn't want to see him nominated in the first place.
You're right. Trust is a BIG issue, and how can I trust McCain when he didn't stand up when it counted?
How can I trust John McCain when he chose a running mate who's not what's best for this country, but who he perceived as being best for his campaign (this remains to be seen)? ... and he says he's country first.
How can I trust John McCain when he went along with the disaster which has been the Bush Administration the majority of time for the past 8 years?
How can I support a man who intentionally spreads lies that he knows aren't true?
How can I support a man who would interject race into a campaign in order to flare up racist sentiments for the purposes of firing up his base?
How can I support him when he is so out of touch with the African American community that he didn't understand the significance of MLK Jr.?
I'm talking about core issues here. How can I actually support him when his ideologies are diametrically opposed to everything that is right? How can ANYBODY support him?
Folks have tried to find every reason in the book not to vote for Obama, and what has been unearthed is the deep-rooted bigotry that has been under the surface all along.
For the record, I am CONVINCED that the people who do not vote for Obama are either irrational, or bigots,or both. By voting for McCain, these folks are willing to ignore their own good sense in order to appease the demon of bigotry within themselves.
That is despicable. I have NO reason to trust John McCain, and neither does anybody else for that matter.
You bringing up "Joe the Fake-Ass Plumber" S, as a "very real concern for voters"?
GTHOH with that shyt! Joe owes taxes and shyt like everyone else! He was a McCain plant, and as a result, the MSM went digging in his backyard and found a whole lot of shyt that Joe doesn't want made public NOW.
The more you post, the more you eliminate your ability to participate in meaningful discussion, so you should give up and leave the political discussion to the grown-ups. You have no credibility and you continue to demonstrate the lack thereof.
Once again, McCain hijacks something that should benefit him and blows it the hell up, right in his face. And anyone supporting McCain/Palin is a bigot who supports BIGOTS.
That's who YOU ARE, S. Don't try to deny it by acting like the concern troll you wish you were.
We don't even have lovely parting gifts for your ass.

First of all, McCain for the greater majority of the past 8 years OPPOSED the Bush tax cuts, even going as far as saying "he could not in good conscience support tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest, while the middle class needs more." The problem is, he flipped the script in 2006, knowing he had aspirations of running in 2008, and began to back off of his OWN principles---which has become commonplace in this nasty campaign he has run.
And I can provide a link to that speech.
Secondly, for all the socialism cries coming from the Rethugs, Governor Palin herself, implemented windfall taxes on the oil companies and then issued checks to the residents of Alaska. Now according to Repubs standards, that sounds like "welfare" or a handout to me.
Thirdly, after McCain failed so miserably in the face of the economic crisis, he tried to introduce a new housing paln that was stupid, to say the least. he wants to buy back housing from lenders--which in the end rewards the same institutions who brought us to this point. Under McCain's plan, he would pay off mortgages with taxpayer's money, even though the majority of homes no longer are worth as much as what is owed on them---which in the end loses money for the taxpayers.
And lastly, I heard of a leader in the U.S. whose policies have already ushered in an era of socialism. And I happen to have his address:
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington, D.C. 20500
And his economic policies that helpAmerica arrived at this point will be continued by John McCain---who votes 90% of the time with Bush. You Rethugs have a nerve to bring up "distribution of wealth" after what has transpired in the last month or so.
P.S. If you want to catch real leadership go to CNN live and check out Obama's economic meeting in Florida---real coherent leadership.
s
I am not looking to get into a debate or to change minds here.
Vote for Obama.
I feel that I am accurately characterizing the difference between the two campaigns as framed by the candidates themselves.
You may disagree with McCains arguments but you cannot deny that McCain has found a way to highlight the differences between himself and Obama by using 'Joe the Plumber' and now Biden's comments.
I DO deny McCain has managed to seize on comments to turn his campaign around because he's done enough "fear-mongering' of his own regarding "don't vote for the scary Black man" for POTUS.
People are tired of that shyt and it will show at the polls.
Now, all he has to do is go ahead and explode, "DON'T VOTE FOR THAT NIGGER!" and it will truly be ALL OVER.
I will tell you what I've told anyone coming here and continuing to support the McCain/Palin ticket, despite their bigotry, their ineptness and overall Keystone Kops performance in this campaign:
A VOTE FOR MCCAIN/PALIN IS A VOTE BY A BIGOT FOR OTHER BIGOTS.
Get in where you fit in.
Monie
You know what else has been highlighted in the McCain/Republican campaign......
Fearmongering through lies--- false "guilt-by association" tactics
Insinuating that another sitting Senator is a terrorist or pals around with terrorists
Divisive tactics
Hateful robocalls
Video on TV and online of rabid supporters at rallies who yell "kill him"
Pitting so-called "Pro-America" parts against the rest of the country
Video of McCain/Palin supporter protesting the fundamental right of other Americans' right to exercise their vote
Campaign officials who have publicly said this campaign is not about the issues but personalities
A campaign who has said that if they talk about the most pressing issue on Americans' minds--the economy--they will lose.....that is why they are so desperate to turn the page.
I am glad you don't intend to change minds...because you could NOT change my mind. Besides I already voted.
And guess what, me and mine are
"G.I. Joe" and "Jane the Military Spouse/Professional." and I dare someone question my patriotism.
No you didn't break out Martin Lawrence on her ass. ROFLMAO!!!!
And you administered the bitch-slap with an ease that raised bitchslapping to an ART FORM.

I guess many voters concern is translating into a republican victory.Only in bizarro world. United States is going through a electoral change that comes about every generation .Conservatism is a failed policy and only Luddites like you cling to a failed philosophy
Don't let Morning Joe determine your mood for the day. Joe and Mika hold no more credibility as objective journalists than Bill O'Reilly. Joe Scarborough is a partisan who calls himself a moderate. It is the MSNBC version of Hannity and Colmes.
For some reason, MSNBC keeps presenting Morning Joe as a neutral program. It is far from nuetral. Consequently, MSNBC affords Joe the "credibility" of a 3 hour morning show with the ability to shape the day's news cycle. Joe Scarborough uses those 3 hours to push Republican talking points as a "moderate" opinion (knowing fully well that he's a right-wing partisan). And in those 3 hours, he'll do his best to bully his guests into accepting his media spin for the day.
Think about it. . . Andrea Mitchell takes the talking points she gets from Joe and repeats them on her afternoon show. Andrea's afternoon show sets the table for the other afternoon anchors. Andrea and Joe's talking points are then repeated during David Gregory's Race to the White House.
You really have to wait 'till Olbermann and Maddow before you get a shift in media focus . . . by then, the day/media cycle is already over.
Again, I have no problem with the fact that Joe Scarborough likes to parrot RNC talking points. I DO, however, have a big problem with the fact that he gets 3 hours each day to do it. I have an even bigger problem with the fact that Joe gets first dibs at the press (WaPo, NYTimes, Wallstreet Journal, Time, Newsweek, etc) who routinely send their reporters there to be influenced by Joe's whiny rants of "double standards," "eascoast liberal elites" and "media bias."
Joe Rants . . . Pat affirms . . . Mika capitulates . . . and the press acquiesces. That's your daily Morning Joe format. And Joe has become transparently partisan as it becomes clear that Obama is going to win this election.
Again, no problem that Joe has his own show. But just give him one hour like everyone else and move him to an evening spot. It's too early in the morning to cut through all of the bias and political spin his show puts forth every day.
Honey01
Co-sign.
That is why I find it laughable when the McCain (and previously the Clintons) and the GOP whine that the media is in the tank for Obama. I ask myself, in what alternate world?
On any given day, on any given show with the exception of Olberman and Maddow, the topics are always a critique of (1) Obama's plans (2) his character (3) his associations (4) his family (5) the "Bradley effect", why can't Obama close the deal, etc. Outside of the week that Palin debuted, you simply do not here a substantive discussion on McCain.
There are some pundits/reporters who think they are slick and they try to cloak their bias as neutrality (Gregory , Brokaw and Andrea Mitchell I am talking to you), but they hardly fooling anybody.
My hate forJoe Scarborough runs deep. Actually deeper than for Buchannan since Scarborough positions himself as moderate and he is obviously a woman beater.
Bless those of you who watch the AM talking heads. I keep the TV off in the morning because it's no good getting my blood pressure sky high as soon as I get up.

Hello Kitty (I've been wanting to say that to you for a long time-chuckle). Thanks for the birthday wishes. As for turning on the political noise in the morning, it's called being a political junkie and I am one.
That said, I'm actually brainstorming on ways that I can contribute after President Obama takes office. I want to help him to leave a great legacy. You know the hate brigade is going to be working overtime to discredit him at every turn.
Nardwilly
BIden's complete comments were that Obama had a spine of steel to handle any test. Do not fall for the hype. They cut the quote short to make a big deal of it.
That's how I interpreted Joe's remarks, too, Nardwilly. And he put out the possibility that some rogue element in the government that will be subversive may "manufacture" shyt, just to test Barack's mettle early.
Sounds like shyt the Clintons would do. Y'all may have embraced them, but if I were Barack, I'd keep both Hillary and Bill at arms length and treat them like the snakes they really are. Never know when one of them might strike. I still hold the position Hillary's setting herself up to run again in 2012, and she would need a weakened Barack Obama in the White House in order to do that.
I think Biden is watching out for his running mate, and he's exposing all kinds of trickery that go on in the DC games, because he's probably played a few himself, and knows the deal. If Obama has a steel spine, I think Biden was pointing out it wouldn't be beneath anyone, Democrat or Republican, to "manufacture" a crisis and put it out there.
Y'all know 9/11 was a manufactured ploy to generate sympathy for going to war in Iraq. And I'm providing a link to what I read to get that impression:
Don't take my word for it. This link will take you to the actual document. Pay attention to "we need a Pearl Harbor-like event" and look at who signed off on the damned thing. Most of them are in the Bush Administration or left out of disgust.
After allowing JFK to be assassinated and allowing a patsy (Lee Harvey Oswald) to take the fall, and allowing him to be killed before he could stand trial for murdering the President, plus covering it up long enough until all the players are either dead or too old to talk, I'm convinced the Federal Government is capable of anything IT DAMNED WELL WANTS TO DO.
Politicians turn into drooling idiots when they're in the presence of money, and they're begging for some of it. They will promise anything, say anything and make fools of themselves. That's why they have to be held accountable!
Teacher
Thank you so much, TruthSeeker. I'm looking forward to a blessed & prosperous year.
I know I'm being sensitive about something that I can't control. I know humans make mistakes. I even realize that the detractors are spinning the quote and not using the whole statement. Yet I expect that WITH ALL JOE BIDEN'S EXPERIENCE in politics & life that he would be more careful/professional. What is he, Dionne Warwick's psychic friends? He knows for a fact that some calamity is going to occur to test the (implied inexperienced) new president? I'm really hoping that the unsaid part isn't, "...and thank goodness I'll be there to save the day." I'm not saying nor trying to imply that he brings nothing to the table. I trust O more than that. But he should feel privileged to be O's running mate. Obama has run a campaign that has been unprecedented in the entire history of political campaigns it's organization and innovation. It has broken voter registration records, fund raising records, volunteering records and much more. I'm not sure why the surrogates haven't been promoting this very obvious fact. His campaign is so good, it's helping many down ticket politicians, even those who were long shots. His campaign is so good, its making republicans not want to say they are republicans. I saw one ad where a republican even used O's name and image in his tv ad. Note to Joe: Unless you are truly psychic, leave the predictions to Thats so Raven; do no harm; take notes.
TruthSeeker
I agree. Some people think it was bait(I hope so); however, I can't see an upside in bringing that up right now.
MsKitty
I know what you mean about the republicans running away from their brand. I've heard and seen commercials for about half a dozen of the local republican candidates and none of them mention their party affiliation or their support of McCain. Very interesting.
I'm clearly not a fan of Morning Joe either. As political strategy, Biden's comment was plain stupid. But it's certainly not as big a deal as Morning Joe hopes to make it. The error isn't the comment per se, but the fact that he gave McCain a talking point this late in the campaign. It's not the "game changer" the media craves. But Obama's surrogates will spend a day on the defensive (I doubt this story lasts more than a day, if that).
Of course, Morning Joe plays the first part of Biden's remark, but leaves out the part where Biden says Obama has a "spine of steel," meaning he's confident that Obama can and will handle the obstacles thrown his way. Biden did not question Obama's readiness with that statement. That's just Morning Joe trying to spin another RNC talking point.
It's a politically foolish statement. BUT . . . it's not the type of thing that turns a campaign around. Obama's national lead is anywhere between 7-13%. Biden's comment is not enough to swing 7 or 8% in a general election.
Also, on Race for the White House, Pat Buchanan, himself, said Biden's comments weren't a big deal. Of course, he changed his tune on Morning Joe. But what else would we expect from him?
Teacher
Thank you for the Birthday wishes, BSerious. I'm going to agree with you that the story will vaporize along with the many other unsubstantial crappage that we have to hear about on a daily basis.
What Powell giveth, Biden taketh away! I know the CW is that "Joe is just being Joe," but there is NO excuse for this. This statement, stated twice on separate occassions, undermines Senator Obama candidacy as well as his judgement in picking Joe Biden for his experience and "wisdom." He has no self control or discipline, actually reckless. Maybe we should be concerned about the absence of brain scans since his surgery decades ago.
He waits until the last two weeks and when Senator Obama is dealing with a personal family crisis to pull this crap.
Not to be disrepectful but maybe you should read those posts that Michelle has been posting around JJP for the past couple of days.
Stay cool. It's not the end of the world and once again, I think you are taking Joe's comments out of context. The Republicans and MSM sure are ... hmm I wonder why?
NMP
Political rule number one: if your explaining then your're losing the argument. Yes, WE understood what Biden meant, but his careless use of words has given McCain an opening, regardless his true meaning. I can not emphasize enough, there are 2 weeks left to this Campaign. Senator Obama will be losng a couple of days for a family crisis. Everyday spent explaining away Biden's remarks is a day wasted. I'm not suggesting it's the end of the world, but it was a mistake. We can't deny it or excuse it, not at this stage of the race.
You're right: by explaining, you lose the argument.
But you don't have to explain this one. It can only be twisted so far, and most Americans who have been paying attention know that Biden may well be right.
You lose more by focusing on it than by trying to explain it. There's really not an explanation that needs to be given.
When you turn on Morning Joe, do you expect to be regaled with Obama praise? I surely don't ... so I don't turn it on.
Biden was telling the truth and as usual his words were taken out of context. Everything will be parsed in the next two weeks. McCain's campaign is desperate. They are grasping at straws.
I would NOT be surprised if in subsequent years a documentary comes out that reveals they orchestrated these voting poll protests to attempt to suppress voters. They want to continue to feed their base lies (cause the base doesn't want to really "know" the truth ... then it would be a bit too hard to pull that lever for their candidate), to guarantee those votes but most importantly they want to discouraged demoralize and rattle Obama supporters.
Don't let them do it to ya. Turn off Morning Joe and keep it off till the 5th ... if not for Obama, for your own sanity.
Teacher
Thank you, Noelani.
I know you are right, but occasionally they have to eat crow (like they will on Nov. 5th!). I try to catch them with feathers on their mouths. I will turn them off for the duration, knowing that they will become more & more hysterical. Too bad they can't implode.

I plan to tape the Morning Hos on November 4 and 5, 2008. Why? 'Cause I like to see them freak! Freakey-Deakey!
Mr McCain has been an outspoken critic of Russia The Russian mission to the UN in New York says it has turned down a request from John McCain to help fund his presidential campaign.
Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin and others received standard mail-outs asking them to help "stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington".
Spokesmen for the McCain campaign and the mission accepted the letters were "a computer error".
Mr McCain has been a strong opponent of Russia on human rights and Georgia.
Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the McCain campaign, told the BBC the campaign had not itself received any complaints from the mission and that "it sounds like they're having a little fun at our expense".
"It's just an error," he said.
US presidential candidates are legally barred from accepting foreign donations.
Funding denial
The letter to Mr Churkin has a return form which carries the words: "I am proud to stand with our Republican candidates as the Obama Democrats and their wealthy liberal backers focus their attacks squarely on defeating Republicans and gaining control of our government.
"I want to do all I can to help stop the Democrats from seizing control of Washington and implementing their radically liberal policy for our nation."
The form then has a space for a signature over the typed name, Vitaly Churkin.
On the copy the Russians released, the space is unsigned.
Ruslan Bakhtin, a spokesman for Russia's UN mission, said: "It's evident that [the letter] was a mistake. It happens."
But he also stressed: "Russian authorities are in no way engaged in funding political campaigns or political activities abroad."
Mr McCain has opposed Moscow on a number of measures.
To evade Russia's veto in the UN Security Council he has proposed setting up an alternative body: the League of Democracies.
During the Russia-Georgia conflict this summer, he said: "We are all Georgians now."
He has also proposed throwing Russia out of the G8 over its human rights record.
But what’s really happening to the plumbers of Ohio, and to working Americans in general?
First of all, they aren’t making a lot of money. You may recall that in one of the early Democratic debates Charles Gibson of ABC suggested that $200,000 a year was a middle-class income. Tell that to Ohio plumbers: according to the May 2007 occupational earnings report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual income of “plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters” in Ohio was $47,930.
Second, their real incomes have stagnated or fallen, even in supposedly good years. The Bush administration assured us that the economy was booming in 2007 — but the average Ohio plumber’s income in that 2007 report was only 15.5 percent higher than in the 2000 report, not enough to keep up with the 17.7 percent rise in consumer prices in the Midwest. As Ohio plumbers went, so went the nation: median household income, adjusted for inflation, was lower in 2007 than it had been in 2000.
Third, Ohio plumbers have been having growing trouble getting health insurance, especially if, like many craftsmen, they work for small firms. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in 2007 only 45 percent of companies with fewer than 10 employees offered health benefits, down from 57 percent in 2000.
And bear in mind that all these data pertain to 2007 — which was as good as it got in recent years. Now that the “Bush boom,” such as it was, is over, we can see that it achieved a dismal distinction: for the first time on record, an economic expansion failed to raise most Americans’ incomes above their previous peak.
Since then, of course, things have gone rapidly downhill, as millions of working Americans have lost their jobs and their homes. And all indicators suggest that things will get much worse in the months and years ahead.
So what does all this say about the candidates? Who’s really standing up for Ohio’s plumbers?

the O campaign keeps it's cards close to the vest. I been getting the feeling they are keeping track of all registrations completed by their volunteers. Also, it's clear they have extensive canvassing databases.
Then I read this diary. It's a man whose Hispanic wife didn't receive her mail in ballot. She also registered 1200 people, I take it they were Spanish speaking also. It's a good diary if you care to read it....but the thing I'm pointing to, it the bolded line(my emphasis) How would the O campaign know to do a robo call reminding her to fill out her ballot if they weren't keeping track of every supporter in minute detail??
Among those registrations, was her own registration which was a change to permanent mail-in balloting. We became suspicious when a full three weeks after she filed her own registration she never received a mail-in ballot nor any kind of confirmation from the Secretary of State's office. All we did get was a robocall from Michelle Obama informing us that in a few days we would be receiving the mail-in ballot and to be sure that she fills it out and sends it in right away.
We took that as a sign that the campaign was aware that she had signed up for mail-in balloting and that the forms must have been processed by the campaign and turned in to the Secretary of State. We presume that this robocall would not have informed us with certitude that we would be receiving a mail-in ballot if it were simply a random call to voters.
Thanks for this post it makes me feel better to know that somebody's got their eye on things. This mess has happened at least two elections in a row, and we can't let it happen again.
Against the backdrop of the final days of the Vietnam War, the "Second Wave" of the Women's Movement, the halcyon days of the Black Power Movement, and the initial backlash against the gains of the Civil Rights Movement, Chisholm forged a courageous and determined grassroots campaign that would set the table for the landmark 2008 presidential candidacies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Ready or Not: Shirley Chisholm for President re-creates the era of the 1972 Presidential campaign and posits Shirley Chisholm as the hero. The exhibition's timeline provides a running narrative that binds together artist interpretations of the social causes Chisholm championed, the constituents she fought on behalf of, the societal environment that surrounded her historic effort and the Congresswoman herself.

rikyrah: Hmmmmm. We're re-thinking using the Rev. Wright meme.
John McCain's campaign manager says he is reconsidering using Barack Obama's relationship with Reverend Jeremiah Wright as a campaign issue during the election's closing weeks.
In an appearance on conservative Hugh Hewitt's radio program, Davis said that circumstances had changed since John McCain initially and unilaterally took Obama's former pastor off the table. The Arizona Republican, Davis argued, had been jilted by the remarks of Rep. John Lewis, who compared recent GOP crowds to segregationist George Wallace's rallies. And, as such, the campaign was going to "rethink" what was in and out of political bounds.
SKIP
McCain has reportedly avoided discussion of Wright because of its racial implications. Apparently, since he already stands accused of stoking crowd anger akin to the South in the 1960s, his campaign just might be willing to walk down that slippery slope and risk justifying Lewis' proclamation.
SKIP
The decision to bring up Wright is left firmly in McCain's hands.
We're WAITING!! **patting my foot and drumming my fingers!***
Town
The McCain campaign are the most whiniest bitches to hit the scene in a long time:
WAAAAH! John Lewis insulted us!
WAAAAH! Obama wouldn't do the town halls with us!
WAAAAH! Obama's raising all that money, it ain't right and it ain't fair!
WAAAAH! Colin Powell endorsed Obama, it had to be because of race!
And casual observation, it seems that when influential non-whites endorse Obama, the opposing side loses their shit much harder than when whites endorse Obama:
Ex. 1: Bill Richardson, member of Clinton cabinet, endorses Obama. H. Clinton campaign loses their shit, melts down, throws a temper tantrum, trashing Richardson, flailing around. Robert Reich, member of Clinton cabinet, endorses Obama. ::crickets::
Ex. 2: Christoper Buckley, Mrs. Hagel, Ms. Eisenhower, Michael Smerconish, etc. endorse Obama. ::crickets:: Colin Powell endorses Obama, people are melting down, analyzing it, foaming at the mouth, trashing Powell, losing their shit, etc.
Hmmm............

Town, It's called White Folks Paranoia. They think people of color are gonna get together and whoop their asses like they did us back in the day.

I say bring it on because then we can talk about Rod Parsley, Jon Hagee and Palin's witch hunting pastor.

MsKitty: Ya mean - THIS ONE!?? :>) :>) This VIDEO is annotated - and 2 long! :>) :>)
This is what I had to say about Rev. Wright in the Keith Olbermann thread:
*Waiting for the good Rev. Jeremiah Wright to make his appearance in Palin-McCain commercials. The CHICKENS! Are coming home.... to ROOST!
Hahahaa!!!
The idiots at the hate rallies don't know and/or still will not acknowledge that they are the "America" Rev. Wright was referring to.
AND (in response to a reply that agreed with my comment:
Hopefully, it will be pointed out (Olbermann? Maddow?) when the inevitable Rev. Wright commercials come.
Play Rev. Wright's famous 2 minutes and juxtapose it to the images of the hatemongers at the Palin-McCain rallies shouting and waving monkeys with Obama stickers on it. Show the idiot in Ohio who hung a "ghost" of Obama in effigy with racial and ethnic slurs on it. Tell the story of the black bear found dead - shot in the head (in NC I believe) with Obama stickers on its body.
And definitely show the bullies in W. Virginia who shouted slurs and other harrassment at early voters waiting in line to vote.
Yep, the residents of "pro-America" America are exactly who Rev. Wright was talking about.

Anovelista: Soooo TRUE! :>) Great analysis, as usual - from YOU! :>)

rikyrah: John Ridley says, -er, -um, Mr. Powell WAS correct BASED on his REASONS NOT RACE!!
To hear Rush Limbaugh tell it, it sounds like a scary story shared around the fire when he's at sleep away camp in the "pro-America" parts of the country: Colin Powell, the once Trustable Brother? He's possessed! He's voting for Barack Obama!
Why?
Why? Because they're both black...ish. They've got that light-dark-skinned soul brother thing going on. It's the only, ONLY reason Powell is voting for Obama!
Though Limbaugh is an admitted satirist and I'm sure is just making ironic comment on Powell's eloquent, heartfelt, cogently explained reasons for supporting Obama.
By reducing those reasons to race. (Though, no, Powell hasn't endorsed any, as Limbaugh puts it, "inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates." He's just supported an inexperienced, very conservative, white candidate for years.)
SKIP
Plenty of opportunities for Powell and other blacks to willy-nilly support a brother (or a sister).
Conservatives may argue that, well, none of those candidates was even worth Powell's attention. But if Powell is -- if blacks are -- just going to vote for a "darkie," then won't any "darkie" do?
SKIP
Beyond the merit of that, or of any of those positions, it does not appear as though black America is handing Obama a "he's one of us" vote.
Rather, the majority of black Americans are giving their votes to the man who, as Powell said, has passed the tests of leadership, particularly over these last seven weeks.
Age has finally become an issue for John McCain. But the problem isn't the candidate's 72 years; it's the antediluvian approach of his campaign.
McCain is running a textbook Rovian race: fear-based, smear-based, anything goes. But it isn't working. The glitch in the well-oiled machine? The Internet.
"We are witnessing the end of Rovian politics," Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google told me. And YouTube, which Google bought in 2006 for $1.65 billion, is one of the causes of its demise.
Thanks to YouTube -- and blogging and instant fact-checking and viral emails -- it is getting harder and harder to get away with repeating brazen lies without paying a price, or to run under-the-radar smear campaigns without being exposed.
But the McCain campaign hasn't gotten the message, hence the blizzard of racist, alarmist, xenophobic, innuendo-laden accusations being splattered at Obama.
And it seems that the worse McCain is doing in the polls, the more his team is relying on the same gutter tactics. So over the next 15 days, look for the McCain campaign to become even uglier. That's what happens when following Rovian politics is your only strategy -- and Rovian politics isn't working.
McCain has stockpiled his campaign with Rove henchmen, including not one but three of the people responsible for the political mugging inflicted on him in 2000.
SKIP
And those disgraceful robo-calls that McCain is running? They were done with the help of Jeff Larson and his firm FLS-Connect -- the same firm that created the robo-calls smearing McCain in 2000.
At the time, McCain's reaction to the attacks on him was: "I believe that there is a special place in hell for people like these."
His reaction now? I have a special place in my campaign for people like these!
SKIP
Rovian politics may or may not end up destroying the GOP. But, thanks to the Internet, with a bit of luck it will no longer have the power to befoul our democracy.
SPEAK!! :>)

Guys, I move this to repost here!
Michelle Bachmann: 'I never called all liberals anti-American'
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said on MSNBC’s “Hardball” Friday that Barack Obama may have “anti-American views” and that the news media should conduct a “penetrating exposé” to determine whether members of Congress are “pro-America or anti-America.”
So you say
Last Friday, all the liberal special interests from California to Vermont found a new outlet for their energy, their frustrations and their money. That would be in defeating me.
D%mn right! You're going down! Cuz you f'd-up
Don't let the door knob hit ya-where the good Lord split ya
These are not people who know anything about my policy views.
Blah Blah Fuckety Blah---You're so done!
rikyrah
Yo Bachmann...this is the age of Youtube.
Tweety gets on my nerves, and I was yelling at the tv
' WHY DON'T YOU JUMP ON HER? WHY ARE YOU HOLDING BACK?'
Looking at that interview again, Tweety slowly handed her the rope..He just kept on easing more and more rope.
AAAAND he kept hammering her with every other pundit that came on this show. He wanted to ride that stupidity out. lol
Miranda
LMAO!! EXACTLY!!! DAMN....Chris Matthews played her...he led her right into the trap......it was like a mother manipulating her toddler into eating the peas!

And, she's getting her ass handed to her in the Minnesota race. Her opponent received over $1 million in contributions after her comments.
He got half of that within hours of that Hardball broadcast. LOL

This is what I thought 2. I kept wincing on her behalf, 'cause I feared for his rope/trap to SNAP at any moment! He must have a PLAN. 'cause I believe that she' gonna GET IT!! :>)

A growing number of Americans believe John McCain has attacked Barack Obama unfairly, a negative perception of the Arizona senator that could cost him at the polls come Election Day.
According to a new survey from CNN and the Opinion Research Corporation, nearly 6 in 10 Americans believe the Republican nominee has unfairly gone negative in his bid for the White House. That percentage is significantly higher than it was last September, when just 42 percent thought the Republican Presidential nominee was running an overly negative campaign, and is also considerably higher than the percentage of Americans who feel Obama has gone unfairly negative.

Texas Girl,
You know it! That's what I called my grandmother....Big Mama!
You know, you are so right. That's exactly what she'd say.

Then she would slide him a $10 ever so secretly & when he looked like he was going to give it back or couldn't accept it, she would give him a look that would make him just put it in his pocket. He would know it was her widow's mite and that she gave it with so much love.

Teacher: U R sooo right!! Sooo warm.
Annnnd, would ask - "How is the wife? How are the grand-chil'ren?" :>) Sweet!

And she probably said, "Baby, you lookin' a lil' thin! You betta make sure you're eating right!". :-)

That also sounds like something my grandmother would say.

"And I heard about that Rev. Wright situation. Have you found a new church home? I know you busy but don't you never get too busy for the Lord. Listen to Big Mamma, now" lol
Via TPM's Zachary Roth, here's a story about how Adam Serwer, a writer for The American Prospect and his own blog, Too Sense, won a dispute with National Review's Jim Geraghty without ever lifting a finger.
Although I'd been surprised to see O standing there, there's something about getting your perm hooked up that you don't want brothas to exactly see. LOL.
Now, if I'd been under the dryer, I'd flirted my ass off. Just saying.
Some situations, you don't want a brotha to see you unless you got on your game face and warpaint (lipstick and blusher at least). ROFL
Sepia
I know that's right! LOL!

Ok? And you know Michelle & the girls go to the salon so that he never has to deal with the smell of relaxer or pressing comb/flat iron floating thru the house. He didn't grow up like that and it would surely traumatize him (LOL!). Well, this isn't tv. I'm sure he's woken up to Michelle sporting some crazy pin curls and a head wrap.
Michelle looks like she just rolls out and the 'do falls in line. Wish I had it like that, LOL.

rikyrah: To the pic: A big smile came over my face for 2 reason - 1. I'm gettin' my hair "did" as we speak; and I'm looking out my door ta see IFFF Mr. Obama is coming up the walk way! :>) 2. This is JUST SO REAL!! "Mamma-girl" will neva be the same! GOOD FOR HER!! :>)
God Bless Mr. Obama for his "on-the real" STYLE!! :>) :>)
Barack Obama's favorability "is the highest for a presidential candidate running for a first term in the last 28 years" of New York Times/CBS polls.
Meanwhile, the Times reports, Sarah Palin's "negative rating is the highest for a vice-presidential candidate as measured by The Times and CBS News. Even Dan Quayle, with whom Mrs. Palin is often compared because of her age and inexperience on the national scene, was not viewed as negatively in the 1988 campaign."
Shyt, Craig, even Quayle knew the value of "Better to be Thought a Fool, than to open your mouth and remove all Doubt."
Only Robert Redford got pissed about Quayle, because Bush, Sr., said he picked him to earn the women's vote and he thought they would more likely vote for someone "who looked like Robert Reford."
Redford still bitches about that, 20 years later, LOL.
Still don't understand why this man still has a TV job. Sickening is what it is.

Pat should just go ahead and wear his hood and robe on air.
Since Tom Brokaw is sooooooo concerned about the integrity of MSNBC (to the point that he gets Tweety and KO demoted), why doesn't he speak out about Pat's racist bs?
Jeez, I was ROFLMAO despite the creepy look at Sarah Palin and twisting his wedding ring like he did with that "I want to tap that ass" look on his face.
