One clip shows her claiming she fired him for his weakness in rural alcohol abuse issues. Another shows her saying right after firing him she offered him a new job as head of the Alcohol Beverage Control Board because he was strong in the very same area. If the public sees her lie in detail in this video, they won’t trust what she says overall:
Answer James T. Harris Question Who was the black man said this "It is absolutely vital that you take it to Obama, that you hit him where it hits, there's a soft spot," at the McCain rally.
James T. Harris is a local radio talk show in Milwaukee. I you go to his radio website make sure you do so on an empty stomach.
Did anyone see Rachel's face today? Either she played a drinking game last night or possibly spent all night crying. I've never seen bags ubder her eyes like that.
rikyrah: Having trouble with posting. My ISP IS upgrading! Dang!!
One thing: That pseudo-brotha at the McAncient rally - Could he have been an Obama plant!? As in: call McAncient OUT - then - BLAST HIM at the debate on the topics that were suggested to him!
Did you see how happy/excited he was that it was a Black person that asked that question? He was more than energized!! RACIST!!!
I saw that donkey at the rally. What a fool, I cannot even look when they play it. I have to leave the room.
Yea, all those white conservatives were cheering. What happened to the "sit down, boy!" rhetoric...please.
GreenLadyHere, don't give that fool any credit...there are names for blacks like him either someone in the McCain camp paid him to say it or he is worse, a house negro.
If Gov. Sarah Palin, by John McCain's estimation, "knows more about energy than probably anyone in the United States of America," then why is she getting such basic facts about our nation's energy production wrong?
At a townhall event in Wisconsin on Thursday, Palin was asked by a concerned questioner whether it was true that the United States was shipping 75 percent of its Alaskan oil overseas. She responded by proclaiming it impossible, since Congress had put strict bans on the amount of oil and gas that America could export.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — On the eve of a report on a legislative panel's abuse-of-power investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report clearing her of any wrongdoing.
Palin, running mate to Republican presidential nominee John McCain, is the subject of two inquiries into whether she abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner says he was dismissed for resisting pressure to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper.
Lawmakers are expected to release their findings Friday.
The report the McCain-Palin campaign released Thursday night says the firing was based on a budget dispute. Since then, the report says, the matter has been muddled with innuendo, rumor and politics.
pjamma
She cleared herself? And tomorrow some idiot will say "I heard she was cleared. It was reported by the AP". I need to look into jobs overseas.
Justice58
WTF? Palin clearing herself? This is the most asinine thing I've ever heard!
Suprk
She and McCain know what is coming. This is all about 'fooling' their base.
This election really is a classic battle between fear and hope. All Palin and McCain are offering right now is more fear: fear of a black man, fear of terrorism, fear of the other, fear of Iran, fear of the future, fear of Islam, fear of the truth. And above all: fear of defeat. On that last one, they're rational. Which side are you on?
You know what? While I have no idea what Obama plans in his 30 min. pre-election media blitz, I do know that now is the time for Obama's "race speech" of his life.
Now is the time that Obama says, "Enough!", drills home how we're in deep sh*t economically, ask voters some pointed questions (Are you going to let my race be the deciding factor in our nation's future? And really, what about my race could ever be an issue? In this climate, how can anyone ever doubt my love/commitment to my country? No candidate in the history of this nation has had to get secret service protection as early as I have. When and where has anyone at any one of my campaign rallies threatened the life of Senator McCain?)... and drill home his tax proposal and show the figures on the screen.
The people who don't have time to research Obama and his policies will get their chance now! I LOVE IT!

AKMuckraker slumps down in the chair with a giant exhale of breath, immediately followed by a rush of feel-good brain chemicals)
OK, I kept telling myself that I wasn’t worried. I trust the Alaska Supreme Court. I have lawyer friends who told me there was nothing to worry about. And I very convincingly told others I wasn’t worried. But after hearing the good news, I realize that….yes….I was worried.
A pretty staggering exchange on O'Reilly just now. O'Reilly had African-American Temple University professor Marc Lamont Hill on the show. O'Reilly went into Colbert mode at one point, saying that when he thinks about a metaphorical "Joe Six-Pack", he has no race in mind: "The immediate image that comes to my mind is a guy of no color," O'Reilly said. Try that for a second: imagine a man of no color. Then this staggering quote from O'Reilly to a black professor:
"Man, I'm glad I didn't have you in school, boy. I would have gotten a D."
Boy? Did O'Reilly just call a black professor a "boy" on cable television?
I know things are bad in this economy, but those right-wing people need to pool their money and buy a clue. And where are the Black Rebuplicans to clarify what this means in the Black community?! Why on earth would a teacher be suspended for this?! Unless there was hazing (they're in high school, I really hope it didn't go that far), there is no reason for a teacher to be penalized for this.
I am glad to hear that Obama is inspiring our youth to more positive directions, and that teachers are using this crucial moment in the history of our people to encourage our young men and women.
*But*
Obama is a politician. A good person, family man and all that, sure. But he's a politician. He will have to make some compromises, break some promises, and hurt some feelings. That's how the game is played. It's just a matter of putting your vote behind the person who you hope will play the game to your benefit more often than not. I really hope people aren't disillusioned once Obama becomes president (yeah, I'm claiming it!).
GreenLadyHere
JunePearl: I posted this recently. Co-sign on the teacher suspension. BUT, with a paucity of details, I can't make 2 many conjectures.
She could have made the video AFTER school, IFF she knew the "rules". Hmmmm.
Also liked the concept of educating the students. :>)

I'm just saying with you lamh! I signed on to ask who that black guy was at the McCain rally begging McCain to bring it to Obama regarding Reverend Wright and all the other "shady characters"? Who was that black guy? How did he get on the front row? How did he even get inside a McCain rally? We need to know his name.
seriously though, I saw that black guy on CNN, he was a joke, and of course tars wall was ecstatic. I literally, can't stand her, and what's up lately with michelle Bernard. Her repub bosses must told her to shape up. She us all of a sudden allup in mcain/pslin's ads.

Just got my 401K statement. My balance is 30% less than it was on January 1st. Whee!
Oh well, I've long since resigned myself to the fact that I'm gonna have to work until they carry me out.
This is the kind of stuff that will move a lot of undecideds to Obama. When it comes to color, green will trump black any day.
Justice58
MS.Kitty,
So sorry to hear that! I sure hope you recover. My prayers are with you!
I checked my TIA-CREFF, same as you, it dropped too. I have no choice but to let it ride. It feels like I am asking my crack head cousin hold my money for me- not a good idea, but I have no choice.
I fear for my mother who is supposed to retire in a year. God Bless her she deserves to retire, but I know she won't be able to afford it! It's not fair and our government has done her dirty.
RobM
Critical issue for you. How far away from the end of your earning years are you. If you are in your 30's you are likely to be working /earning well into your 70's at this stage. You are also going to live for 25 yrs after the end of those days and in relatively good health. In saving for retirement the stock market is the best place for returns unless we go into a European style state so you do not have to play for healthcare and a broader definition of Socail Security. the issue is how mcuh of your earnings are in the riskest part of the market and how much of it on a percentage basis. Essentially it means you should have the most at risk and the highest percentage of it at risk. The percentage at risk should come down every decade and what is at risk you move into a less risky category. so by the time you are in your midsixties (possibly even later given how long we will live)most of your savings should be in very conservative instruments. The balance stays in the market to protect against inflation
MsKitty
I'm in my early 40s, so ideally I'm 20-25 years away from retirement (ideally being the key word). The plan you described is close to what I have, which is a mix of high-risk, high-return stocks with a couple of more conservative mutual funds, with the intent of going more conservative the closer I get to retirement age.
It sucks to see my statement go down like that, but I'm not in panic mode just yet because there's still years for my funds to rebound. But I feel awful for the folks who are retired or getting ready to. You spend all those years doing what you think are the right things for a secure retirement, and then when you're all set to do it the rug gets pulled out. Talk about betrayal of trust.
Thanks for all the good thoughts y'all.
GreenLadyHere
MsKitty: I'm VERY SORRY to hear of this. BUT, it gives me one more chance to PRAY for YOU/FAMILY! Amen!!

Do you see what's happening on CNN with Lake county in Indiana.
Remember, Lake county was the last to report on Indiana's primary night? They put Obama close to a tie with Hillary, I think it's heavily African American. It's so transparent what's happening....they're implicating ACORN and this county to suggest that there's voter fraud and that the votes that will come from LAKE are suspect.
Do you see how this all ties together. Saying O is connected to Acorn, saying Acorn uses ex cons to register voters. Acorns is raided. Then the registrar's office say they received over 2000 fraudulent registrations from Acorn. Then McCain's vice chair says Obama is "from the street". Add in Ayers. Add that to the MSM failure to report on recent voter suppression tactics by the GOP.
McCain is in trouble, he has to win all tossup states...he needs an assist. Perhaps this is his assist for Indiana. The McCain campaign, the MSM is setting things up so voters can be harassed at the polls.
Obama is being swiftboated.
Teacher
This whole ACORN thing is so stupid. I was a memberof ACORN in Chicago. We went to the Alderman's office (or you could say marched on) and asked to have the grass cut down on vacant lots or to have abandoned houses boarded up because drug dealers worked out of them or they became crack houses. One time we went to Allstate insurnce company because they were charging minorities more for coverage. These aren't exactly unamerican ativities. To me, this is up there with Palin's PTA experience. The majority of the members in my group were old people. It's weird how people are alluding that ACORN is a radical, subversive organization. Weird.
msmartin
I wouldn't be surprised if those registrations weren't submitted by Acorn. Like the flags that got thrown away weren't from the DNC convention.
Seems like folks need to vote early when they can and vote absentee.
Val
is there anyway for us to get this to the Obama campaign? Do you think they already know about this?
TruthSeeker
It would be malpractice if they don't.
Actually, I think they are aware. I think they planned for it. If Indiana goes, Obama has 6 more to choose from; while McCain has to win ALL 7 just to be back in the game.
Val
Truth - don't claim it.
Obama WILL NOT be swiftboated. Do not claim it. The hole they attempt to dig for Obama is the one they will fall into themselves. With any luck, they will break a leg.
The media wants the race to be close. A blowout is no good for ratings.
The public has seen three debates and the stock market continues to crash. Only us political addicts are watching every twist and turn of this campaign.
I will say this, though. I walked out into the world today afraid for my safety for the first time in my entire life.

You know what is the most amusing of these numbers? Obama has a bigger lead in Pennsylvania and Michigan than he does in California and there is no way he will win in California
I just read that and was ready to post. But look at what he said:
"Well Senator, I actually did. I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent person. I have a bachelor degree in Political Science from Tennessee State, so I try to keep myself up to date with current affairs. I have a Master degree in Legal Studies from Southern Illinois University, a few years in law school, and I am currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration from the University of Memphis. In defense of the Senator from Arizona I would say he is an older guy, and may have made an underestimation of my age. Honest mistake. However, it could be because I am a young African-American male. Whatever the case may be it was somewhat condescending regardless of my age to make an assumption regarding whether I was knowledgeable about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

Well the teachers took a survey today from the kids and asked who their families were voting for as President in the November elections. The kids came home with graphs showing the results and drum roll please . . . . . . . . . . ALL the families are voting Barack Obama. Surveys were from three 2nd grade classes LOL I told you our school is over 97% white.
That was only the 2nd grade results but I am feeling really good.

Forgive me if it has already been discussed, but did anyone see this Black dude at a McSane/Palin rally today? He was "begging" McCain to "take it to Obama". He wanted him to hit hard on Reverend Wright, Ayers, and other "shady characters". The manic crowd of course cheered and McCain thanked and hugged his "friend".
Amazing. Not that he is a Republican, but a Black man helping to incite violence against the first Black Presidential nominee. Just wow. I am not usually one for revoking anyones Black Card, but......

It made me feel better to see McCain's Gallup Tracking poll numbers drop today. He is now down to 41%, Barack is at 52%.
I can hardly wait until next week's debate. McCain better bring it or STHU. I know Barack has something special for him.
Town
This is why McCain is losing: he keeps lurching from attack to attack and they don't make sense. Which is it? Is Barack this snooty elite guy sipping on Starbucks and eating argula while he chills out at Whole Foods?
Or is he this scary black boogeyman from the streets? Cuz you know how those Chicago people are?
Clearly Barack looks as physically threatening as a glass of milk so the black boogeyman from the streets bit ain't gonna work unless they evoke OJ (which I guarantee you is coming next).
When people see Obama being all calm and pleading with him to get angry, it's hard to imagine him being some angry terrorist coming at'ya.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to revive the "Call Me" on Barack, even though we clearly see that he's into his black wife.
That "Call Me" Ad worked on the Dark Sith because IT WAS TRUE.
Won't work on Obama because Hef would have to verify Obama showed up at the Playboy Mansion to party, which he has not.

These are angry people, they take it as a personal insult that Obama is beating their candidate. I looks to me like they're enraged that Obama wasn't deferential in the last two debates - he was confident and self-assured. McCain must be roiling in turmoil.
Sepia
Truth, you know what's this is about: A black man is actually beating a white man. It's the same mentality exhibited during the Primaries.
With similar results, Sepia. With similar results.

Exactly!
John King just reported on his electoral map, that McCain will have to win all seven tossups to win the presidency, while Obama only needs one(O's currently at 264 ev's according to CNN) It puts McCain in a bind....Obama has effectively won..
What does McCain do??? He can't choose any one to focus on, he MUST win all, MUST invest dollars in all, MUST campaign in all. However, he doesn't have the money, or the organization - and he cannot split the stumping load with his VP in order to cover more ground, because he can't draw crowds on his own.
I want a BLOW OUT. I want one because he has earned it. I want one because the nation has to show UNITY despite the GOP efforts to divide our nation based by fanning the flames of fear and hatred.
We need Obama's leadership.
TruthSeeker
Me too. I agree with what you said. I want right wing ideology to be rejected resoundingly. I want Americans of all colours to stand up and reject identity politics...it's the only way to kill the ugly tactics used by the GOP, once and for all.
I almost feel like it puts all of us on the road to racial HEALING. And for every white person who doesn't feel pain I would argue they are emotionally shut down about it. We way too much racial shame as a nation to move forward without real healing. I want Obama to yell, "Woman thou art LOOSED!"
They just need a good story so they are trying to prolong this I believe

QUANTICO, Va. -- One of the largest U.S. marine bases in the world is located in Quantico, a tidy town with scant election fanfare. Everyone who lives here just assumes Republicans have a lock on the military vote. And so when Obama signs began to appear, tongues began to wag.

Barack Obama is promising to make college affordable for all Americans, and this appeals to Jennings. "I can't imagine telling my two kids, "No college for you, because I voted for McCain." She emailed all of her military friends, encouraging them to register two new voters. "It's time to take a stand," said the marine vet. "I want us to be like Michigan -- I'd love to see John McCain quit campaigning in Virginia, too."
Jennings isn't the only Obama supporter in Quantico -- not by a long shot -- and this should raise a red flag for the McCain camp. In hotly contested states with large military populations, these voters can make an impact because they turn out to vote in higher percentages (79/64) than the general public, according to a Rand study.
John McCain assumes he has the military vote -- but does he?
Deployed Troops Give Four Times More Money To Obama
People in all branches of the service are getting tired of repeated deployments. "I think more of them will vote for Obama than McCain," said Jennings. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain.

Rabbi Daniel Cohen Congregation Agudath Sholom Stamford, Connecticut
Rabbi Barry Freundel Kesher Israel Congregation Washington, D.C.
Dear Rabbis Cohen and Freundel,
Please forgive the presumption -- not only don't we know one another, I'm the kind of "cultural Jew" who makes even Reform Rabbis weep.
But as far as I can tell, now that Joe Lieberman and his family have moved from New Haven to Stamford, you, Rabbi Cohen, are his primary Rabbi in Connecticut. And you, Rabbi Freundel, lead the congregation where Sen. Lieberman worships in Washington.
Sen. McCain loves Joe Lieberman -- he wanted him as his running mate, if press reports are accurate.
Sen. McCain listens to Joe Lieberman.
Sen. Lieberman is, if you will, John McCain's rabbi.
So I thought I would write to you and ask you, as Sen. Lieberman's rabbis, to talk to Sen. Lieberman about the hatred that the McCain-Palin campaign is encouraging --- and the special understanding we Jews have of how that hatred plays out.
Why this public forum? Because I feel this is an urgent moment for American Jews. And because, in this moment, the men who can perhaps do the most to help us all -- Jews, Gentiles and Muslims alike -- should be identified and challenged to step up and do the right thing.

oday "The Other" is Barack Obama. At a McCain-Palin rally the other day, there was a cry from a yahoo in the crowd: "Off with his head!" John McCain and Sarah Palin have not condemned that man. Indeed, they promise to ratchet up their "questions" about Obama in the final weeks of the campaign. At this point, it seems, they'd find nothing upsetting if the audiences at their rallies showed up with torches and pitchforks.
Jews, above all others, should fear this kind of hate speech. It may start with the demonization of one black man. Then it will move on to greedy Wall Streeters and "Jewish bankers" and a "liberal media" owned and controlled by Jews. [It's already happening: The Anti-Defamation League reports "a dramatic upsurge in anti-Semitic statements" on financial message boards on the Web. ] And then -- it sounds crazy, but it sounded crazy to many Jews in Germany -- the mob will come for us. Because that's where this goes. It's where it always goes. No matter where it starts, it ends with the Jews -- we're the ultimate "Other."

Hello my people! Just coming down from my debate high, LITERALLY! And don't ask. Yep, President Obama "spoke softly", "carried a big stick", and behaved like a man who would keep a "steady hand on the tiller". Oops, Isn't that what McBush wanted us to believe about him? If so, Misson Not Accomplished!". Back to the drawing board, Schmidt! Town halls are not your guy's thing. He looked, for want of a better description, old, awkward, beaten standing next to his young, confident, strapping counterpart.
"I will kill Bin Laden...and crush the Taliban.." My favorite delivery of the night by Senator Obama. I wondered if in that moment, McBush thought to himself, "Oh fuck, he's gonna do the same thing to me on Nov. 4." Yes, I can only HOPE.
Anyway, my least favorite moment was when Senator Obama missed an opportunity of candor, ya know, to tell the American people that things will get worst before they get better." To be frank, I was a tad annoyed. What about his common refrain in the primary, "I will tell you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear..." But I reconciled that with the fact that had he done the truth-telling then, it may have produced an opposition attack ad before morning. In any case, I was placated when he did address this in Indiana yesterday.
My WTF moment? Yep, the "That One" comment. If McBush was not being overtly disrespectful of the possible next president of the US, his comment was, at the very least, inappropriate in that setting. Undisciplined coot.
OK, and why didn't McCain broach Senator Obama's alleged associations with terrorists? Yeah, we've all figured it out? Fucking coward. He probably knew the smack-down was ready and didn't want to risk being cut down by the best political assassin ever. His wife probably carries his dick and balls in her pocketbook. Geez...chicken bastard.
Anyway...on to next Wednesday. Hopefully, McBush will grow a pair and really take the "gloves off" this time so that it won't turn out to be another yawn-fest. Stay as sharp as you can Senator Obama. No missteps, please. Not that we expect any but still...ya know!
T. OK guys, I know the debate was like light years ago in election-time, but, I still felt compelled to post my reaction. I promise that I will be more au courant in my next post.
This isn't even a good attack line. It only begs the question, "and how does electing McCain/Palin not dimish its prestige?"
And if they can't answer-immediately, without any thought-they look awfully dumb.
I really, sincerely hope they're not saying this stuff in VA on Monday. It won't fly in VA Beach, and in northside Richmond, it ain't gonna go over well at all.
Michelle
You know, without even reading the linked article it's painfully obvious what she is saying underneath what she is saying.
She's saying "this is a white country and a Black person in the presidency would diminish the value of the presidency."

It really ain't. Hell, I'm rethinking my attenance at the Richmond rally.

No, see only when black Obama gets elected, is the presidency diminished.
Nixon, B. Clinton, Harding, Bush II...they didn't diminish the presidency. Only the black guy will.
And didja know when he gets elected, he's gonna hire Ludacris to paint the White House black?
Yup, Obama's gonna have Gold Cadillacs sitting up on blocks on the White House lawn and he's gonna let the grass grow high in the Rose Garden.
Michelle's gonna have all the furniture in the White House in plastic and when Obama does the State of the Union you're gonna see the wooden fork and spoon on the wall. Pictures of Malia, Sasha and Michelle in an airbrushed champagne glass surrounded by dollar bills will be behind him. Michelle will change the menu to Cheetos, chitlins and red Kool Aid. During state dinners they will all do the Electric Slide.
Michael Vick will bring his pit bulls to the White House and chain them to the columns, while 50 Cent, Diddy and Ludacris play dominos on the porch.
Obama will have spinners put on Marine One and Air Force One will lean to the side.
Remember, electing the black guy will DIMINISH the presidency. Invading countries, spying on people, running up the national debt, creating a financial crisis unlike any other since 1929, alienating allies, creating more enemies...none of that diminished the Presidency.
The black guy will.

So General Petraeus agrees with Barack Obama -- and not John McCain -- on the question of whether we should meet with hostile enemies?
In an interview that aired on CBS last night, John McCain, when asked which three living people he'd like to have dinner with most, promptly chose General Petraeus. McCain frequently hails Petraeus as an "American hero."
McCain, however, might not enjoy that dinner so much if he heard Petraeus' views on one of the leading foreign policy differences he has with Barack Obama.
In a case of comically awful timing, Petraeus yesterday gave a talk at the Heritage Foundation in which he more or less echoed Barack Obama's views on negotiating with hostile foreign leaders -- views that McCain has repeatedly subjected to criticism and ridicule.
Asked by a questioner specifically about the disagreement on this topic that McCain and Obama had at Tuesday night's debate, Petraeus demurred a bit, but said: "I do think you have to talk to enemies." THERE IS MORE

Since Obama's poll numbers have gone way up, the MSM has been pushing the "race" and "Bradley Effect" memo real hard.
Town
That's because they need to have an excuse ready for when the votes are stolen.
No, it wasn't GOP trickery, it was the "Bradley Effect."
I find it interesting that these Tee Vee Talking Heads keep chattering about the "Bradley Effect" but not once has anyone discussed whether Sarah Palin being a female (regardless of her views or experience) would have any effect on the McCain/Palin ticket losing or not.
There are PLENTY of people who feel women have NO BUSINESS being President or Vice President and while there may have been plenty of people voting for Hillary because they didn't want the black guy to get in there, I'm pretty sure there were plenty of people voting for Barack because they didn't want the woman to get in there.
How many people voted AGAINST Mondale back in '84 because they couldn't stomach the thought of a woman being a heartbeat away? The CW is that Mondale was a shitty candidate but really, I wonder how many people said "President Ferraro? I don't think so." and pulled the lever for Reagan?
If we believe that because white people lied on Bradley and Wilder 20, 30 years ago, couldn't we also conclude that the same "Women don't belong up there" attitude exists today?
If we believe we have evolved from the "women got no business being up there" attitude from yesteryear, why can't we believe that we have made some evolution from the Bradley Effect today?
And I know there has got to be SOME people out there who believe that women should NOT be in positions of authority because I know during the primary season there were people crying that Hillary wouldn't be able to handle the male heads of state because they don't respect women. We've got a winking, kiss blowing fool "a heartbeat away" that's already being disrespected by male foreign heads of state. If we believe the Bradley Effect is still large and in charge, wouldn't some of those same attitudes towards women be just as strong?
jelana
In truth, there are actually MORE who believe a woman doesn't belong there. This is why the majority of Hillary's supporters were women. Men are not ready to have a woman in charge so they didn't vote for Hillary and they won't vote for McCain/Palin. There are also quite a few women who feel the same way. And this is before it became apparent how unqualified Palin is.

David Gergen kicked it off, and you said that was okay, but I saw it for what it was - the new media directive to sway voters. FR: Jason Furman, Obama-Biden Economic Policy Director
RE: The Facts on McCain’s Plan to Reward Lenders at Taxpayer Expense
DA: 10/9/08
In light of the McCain campaign’s latest erratic move on the economy, see below for details on Senator McCain’s plan to reward irresponsible mortgage lenders at taxpayer expense. In the course of twelve hours, McCain transformed a “new” mortgage plan which was simply restating a policy the government had already authorized into what is possibly the largest taxpayer funded handout to irresponsible lenders in U.S. history. In short, this plan guarantees taxpayers lose money, rewards bad behavior in the past and discourages responsible behavior in the future.
Tuesday Night: McCain announces “plan” which restates current law. On Tuesday night, the McCain Campaign released a plan to “purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers, and replace them with manageable, fixed-rate mortgages that will keep families in their homes.” As Senator McCain said, “it's my proposal, it's not Sen. Obama's proposal, it's not President Bush's proposal.” But he was wrong: the Treasury Department and Federal Housing Administration already have the authority to purchase, restructure and guarantee mortgages for struggling families. McCain’s plan appeared to simply restate these authorities, which Barack Obama had previously fought for and supported when they were included in legislation.
Importantly, the plan McCain released on Tuesday night required lenders to take a “haircut.” McCain’s plan on Tuesday night explained that in circumstances when loans were purchased and restructured by the government “[l]enders in these cases must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered.” This approach was not new – it reflected the shared responsibility approach embodied in the Dodd/Frank housing legislation which forced current lenders to sacrifice by backing mortgages for only 90% of current market value. Also, borrowers who benefit from the program share any upside in their house price with the government.
Wednesday Morning: McCain announces a new plan – financial institutions no longer have to take any losses and the McCain Bailout guarantees that taxpayers lose money, rewarding the most irresponsible lenders. Overnight, the McCain campaign changed their plan and eliminated this reference to shared responsibility for lenders from the plan on their website, deleting from their plan the phrase “Lenders in these cases must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered.” Top McCain advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin explained that, rather than asking lenders to take a haircut, the McCain plan called on the government to purchase mortgages at their full face value. This approach would reward irresponsible banks with taxpayers’ money and would give no upside to the government.
• Rewarding Irresponsible Banks. If a homeowner has a mortgage of $200,000 on a house now worth $150,000, the McCain plan would pay off the original lender at the full $200,000 price. His plan would not insist on any sharing of sacrifice by the lender. Indeed, if the original lender engaged in fraud to inflate the size of the initial mortgage, they would be explicitly rewarded for it under the new McCain plan since they would be paid back the full, inflated value of the mortgage.
• Guaranteeing a Taxpayer Loss. The McCain plan will stick taxpayers with the full loss on houses and put them at risk of losing even more if home values don’t recover. It would do so without asking anything of the lenders themselves and without giving the taxpayers share in any future upside should house prices recover. It is a recipe for the worst kind of bailout abuse.
• Inhibiting Private Solutions to the Problem That Do Not Cost Taxpayers a Dime. Today some lenders, voluntarily or as part of settlements, are working on solutions to the mortgage mess that involve the financial institution modifying mortgages to help homeowners stay in their homes – without costing taxpayers a dime. But if the McCain plan were in place, this process would stop because lenders would know they could always sell their mortgages at full face value to taxpayers.
- History consistently proves the wisdom of the Founders exceeded their own comprehension and imagination.
I doubt Thomas Jefferson, James Madison or Charles Pinckney could fathom an African American-led nonviolent civil rights movement that based their cause on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, especially after the 3/5 Compromise of 1787 meant that male slaves would only constitute three-fifths of a man.
While our 21st century hindsight may find this compromise deplorable, without it, the 13 colonies would have found it difficult to become what we now call the United States of America.
Since women were largely denied the right to vote, it is equally debatable that women’s suffrage would have been part of the Founder’s worldview by the time the Constitution was ratified in 1788.
But the Founders’ inability to see the specifics that the elasticity of the Constitution would create does not excuse the ignorance or unbridled ambition of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to go without comment.

I wouldn't say Palin is racist. I would say she is selfish and power hungry. She could care less how she achieves her goal. She stepped on friends, co-workers, mentors, her husband and her own kids to get whatever she wanted so obviously she has no issue with attempting to step on Barack.
Doesn't matter the statistics, my family is the only black family in our neighborhood. Maybe 2% of the school my kids attend is black it is over 96% white and they are the nicest group of people you would want to meet.

Investors Business Daily asks what Barack Obama knows about the epidemic of voter fraud in ACORN, and it’s not an unfair question. Not only has Obama publicly endorsed ACORN, he has paid them at least $800,000 for their services, an amount that he didn’t immediately disclose until pressed. ACORN has responded in kind, with their voter-registration efforts that have resulted in criminal investigations in more than a dozen states:
For starters, Obama paid ACORN, which has endorsed him for president, $800,000 to register new voters, payments his campaign failed to accurately report. (They were disguised in his FEC disclosure as payments to a front group called Citizen Services Inc. for “advance work.”)
What’s more, Obama worked as executive director of ACORN’s voter-registration arm, Project Vote, in 1992. Joined by two other community organizers on Chicago’s South Side, Obama conducted the voter-registration drive that helped elect Carol Moseley-Braun to the Senate that year.
The next year, 1993, Obama joined the civil-rights law firm Davis Miner Barnhill & Galland, where he sued the state of Illinois on behalf of ACORN to implement the federal “Motor Voter” law, which the GOP governor at the time refused to do. Then-Gov. Jim Edgar argued, presciently, that the Clinton law would invite voter fraud.
Obama downplays his ties to ACORN, and his campaign denies coordinating with ACORN to register voters.
In case you haven't noticed, we don't pay you any attention when you come on here and fling lies like monkey poo.

get an education What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said “I do” to?
What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5*?
What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

No one else has been willing to say the unspeakable. They nibble around the edges of this issue.
It IS a huge risk...but I think it's better than what everybody else is doing, which is pretending these are just garden variety attacks. The rest of the MSM conflate McCain's racial attacks with Obama's policy attacks, and suggest they're equal. They act as if there is not a deliberate strategy to ghettoize Senator Obama.

Racism without racists? Don't believe the hype Pamela D. Reed | Posted October 8, 2008 5:29 PM
There is an astonishing theoretical perspective taking hold in the American academy, and working its way down into the mainstream. And if it remains unchallenged, it seems that it is well on its way to becoming an accepted tenet.
It is the bizarre idea that, while racism is alive and well in America -- to the continued detriment of non-White peoples and the entire nation -- most of the people who continue to perpetuate the discriminatory practices necessary for racism to persist are not racists. They just subconsciously harbor racist sentiments and consistently practice racism.
This may be a notion that defies logic, but it is, nonetheless, the face of today's decidedly amorphous racial discrimination. This perplexing theory of human behavior is laid out in the 2006 book by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, Racism without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States, and is referenced by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff in his recent column, "Racism without Racists." Psychologists call this phenomenon "aversive racism."
SKIP
To make his point, Kristoff directs attention to a recently completed joint study by Stanford University, Yahoo and the Associated Press. He reasons that most White people, like the three in ten Democrats who indicated that they will vote for John McCain -- basically because they cannot bring themselves to vote for a Black man for President -- are "well-meaning whites who believe in racial equality...yet who discriminate unconsciously." They are not to be confused with the "dyed-in-the-wool racists" who comprise an estimated ten percent of the American populace. What a puzzling concept.
SKIP
I reject this notion of "racism without racists." And I don't think people "discriminate unconsciously." To the contrary, I think most people know exactly what they are doing. Rather than aversive racists, I would term such persons stealth racists who don't want to be considered bad people, in an age when bigotry is not in vogue.
SKIP
If we are to ever come close to totally eradicating the cancer of racial hatred in this country--and the world at-large--we must deal with it in honest, stark terms and eschew euphemisms.
This is the crux: bigotry could no more survive without bigots, than socialism or Marxism could exist without socialists or Marxists.
Now more than ever, we must call racists what they are: racists. Of course, their numbers are greatly decreased from the days of enslavement and Jim Crow. But make no mistake, the shameful truth is that racism is alive and well in America--and it is fed by racists.
Perhaps Paul Sniderman, one of the Stanford political scientists who analyzed the massive quantitative findings of the recent AP/Yahoo study, says it all: "There are a lot fewer bigots than there were 50 years ago, but that doesn't mean there's (sic) only a few bigots." And this will not change until good people of all hues eliminate any safe harbors for such people. From sea to shining sea.
See why I challenged Campbell Brown's "HALF-Challenge" to McAncient!??
BUT, we all knew this!!
The "ELEPHANT" remains in the middle of the room; BUT "McAncient/The Gov. are moving closer to saying to their RACIST SUPPORTERS - "Do You See What I See"?
Whew!! CALLING ALL RACISTS Deep Breaths!
Oh! Wait. . . . I just need ta go to the next Repug Rally!!
Racism Without Racists is the title of an awesome book by Eduardo Bonilla Silva where he discusses the recodification of racism (ie: reliance on the notion of "being color blind" and competing notions of American values.) I lecture on "Color Blind Racism" regularly and it is a seminal text in the field.

evita: Thank you for this information!! Could YOU put a piece of YOUR "stuff" on this site!?
I'm a diversity trainer (last 10 years) and college lecturer (for the last 3 years,) so I don't have official "stuff," yet. I have plans to start a doctoral program in the next 2 years. In fact, some of my organizational development work utilizes colorblind theories when I write my final reports. :) Here's my website if that is what you're looking for: http://www.evavegadiversity.com

evita: NICE!! I needed to be clear on "stuff". I was thinking about an article or lecture or. . . like that. :>) :>)
Here ya go: Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States (Bonilla- Silva)
White Supremacy and Racism in the Post Civil Rights Era (Bonilla-Silva)
Color-Blind Racism (Leslie G. Garr)
My plan, in two years, is to study the affects of color blind racism on the racial identity development of children and their capacity to challenge prejudice and discrimination.
If you have JSTOR access I can reccommend some research too. Let me know if you want some more. :)

I remember the footage of the bailout meeting in the White House with George Bush...I think Pelosi sat to his left, and Harry Reid sat to his right, looking pious and self-satisfied, while they prepared to hang a 700 billion dollar millstone around Barack's neck...and the neck of every American.
I hear also, that it was Reid who ok'd the addition of the extra 150 billion...
Sigh...sometimes I wonder if there'll ever be justice in this world. --------------------------------
Barack Obama pronounces "Pakistan" correctly, with a soft "a," just like a lot of people who know what they're talking about, including Gen. David Petraeus. Apparently, having completely run out of compelling policy arguments to make, some high-profile conservatives have decided to make this their latest campaign hobbyhorse.
The National Review's Mark Stein, for example, said that Obama prefers the "exotic pronunciation." He added, "[O]ne thing I like about Sarah Palin is the way she says 'Eye-raq'."
This came after the National Review's Kathryn Jean Lopez posted an email that argued, "[N]o one in flyover country says Pock-i-stahn. It's annoying."

Gah, coming from Washington State, I cringe everytime McCain puts an "r" in it. And what about Palin's Eye-rack?

Ok...
Tomorrow the Troopergate report is due. There's talk that McCain has some bombshell to drop tomorrow. Of course, it's distraction from the report.
I'm starting to get emotionally exhausted with the McCain shenanigans. It's like a lousy relationship when you just want it to be over!
In her "No Bias, No Bull" segment Wednesday night, Campbell Brown pleaded with the McCain campaign to stop what she referred to as "race baiting."
"It is getting very, very ugly," Brown said. "Tonight, we are cutting through the bull on the issue of race and this campaign."
Brown blasted McCain surrogates for injecting race Obama's race into the campaign narrative by invoking his middle name or referring to him as a terrorist, and she called on McCain to deliver a "much stronger denunciation than a campaign-generated paper statement":
Look, everybody, we all know that we are in unchartered territory here. Never before has there been an African-American presidential nominee. So without question, race is going to be part of the conversation. Race baiting doesn't have to be. And yet, it is happening in this campaign.
HERE'S WHERE WE PART COMPANY!!
Brown also cautioned Obama supporters not to accuse McCain of racism over his "that one" remark from Tuesday's Presidential debate, as she reported some have done. "Give me a break," she said. "I can hear my grandfather talking about one of his kids or grandkids as 'that one.' He used it a lot. Maybe it's a generational thing. Maybe it wasn't a term of endearment the way it was when my grandfather used it. Maybe McCain did mean to be disrespectful, but racist? I don't think so."
You CAIN'T tell me HOW to feel about "THAT ONE". It WAS offensive and RACIST in INTENT! Because he runs off at the mouth =IMPULSIVE, he got caught!!
Shoulda known that she couldn't hold that angst til the END of the article!!
Monie
Campbell Brown is trying to be objective and still falls flat. What really pisses me off is that other journalists like Katie Couric, Brian Williams and even CNN pundits brought up the "that one" comment in their observations on the debate night ---not Barack Obama personally. But yet, Obama's campaign is always responsible when the McCain campaign is questioned. If McCain is being disgusting, themedia has to bring up what they believe to be an Obama shortcoming to even the scorecard. They won't call McCain out on his shyt unless they blast Obama at the same time--it's ridiculous.
And basically what it boils down to is the media will not hold McCain for his despicable behavior because 1) they just can't admit he is dishonorable because he is a former POW who they themselves have branded a maverick and 2) they truly believe that it is Obama's fault that Mccain has had to resort to this behavior.

Town
In chastizing Obama supporters about thinking "that one" was racist, Campbell is showing her own racism because she doesn't take into account the entire story. If McCain had not run a racist campaign and had looked at Obama and given him some sort of respect, the "that one" comment wouldn't have been looked at as racist (as much), it just would have been seen as a grumpy old grampa forgetting Obama's name.
The same thing that was said about Hillary can be applied to McCain:
Hey, I'm John McCain, I was a POW for 5 1/2 years and it's my turn to be President. All I got to do is step right in and what? Barack OBAMA?
His utter disdain of Sen. Barack Obama was evident in the last debate when he didn't even look at Obama, and when they shook hands at the end, he quickly did it while looking away.
Last night he was even more pathetic.
First, he referenced Obama as "that one" when discussing a vote on an energy bill. The dismissive and condescending attitude was blown off by the likes of Newsweek's Howard Fineman, saying he didn't see anything racial in the remark.
But he's not Black, and has never been marginalized. The statement was off-putting and insulting.
Then the end of the debate was horrible.
When Obama walked over to shake McCain's hand - with their wives at each other's side - he stuck his hand out, but McCain motioned for Obama to shake Cindy's hand. He did. And McCain never bothered to shake his hand later.
This total lack of respect should tick off anyone, and it reveals more about the petty character of McCain.
He wants to talk about honor, decency and character. But his shameful conduct only goes to show why he doesn't deserve to be president.
Shame on you, Sen. McCain, you disgraced the Senate and the nation.
(Newser) – Barack Obama was the clear winner of last night's debate against John McCain, two separate polls conducted for television networks found. Minutes after the debate ended, 40% of uncommitted voters identified Obama as the winner to 26% who said McCain came out on top, CBS News reports. Viewers found Obama more likeable by a 2-to-1 margin, and 68% said they believed the Democratic candidate will make the right decisions on the economy.
In a CNN poll, 54% of debate viewers declared Obama the winner while 30% put McCain ahead. Some 57% found Obama appeared more intelligent to 25% for McCain. "If Obama can use this debate to convince Americans that he is a stronger leader than McCain, he may be difficult to defeat," said the CNN polling director.
(Newser) – John McCain set the blogosphere rumbling about racial insensitivities when he referred to Barack Obama as "that one" during their debate last night, but don't count Michelle Obama among the offended. She told CNN's Larry King that the comment barely registered with her. Obama also said she bore no grudges against Sarah Palin for her recent attacks on her husband, the Boston Globe notes.
"You know, I think she provides an excellent of example of all the different roles that women can and should play," Obama said. "You know, I'm a mother with kids and I've had a career and I've had to juggle. She's doing publicly, what so many women are doing on their own privately. What we're fighting for is to make sure that all women have the choices that Sarah Palin and I have."
(a) Not Todd's and is Sarah's with another man or;
(b) Bristol's Kid
And if he's Bristol's, then Todd shouldn't be so distant from him. He never interacts with that baby, so it arouses my suspicions.

rikyrah: This has been on my mind for a few weeks. I'm going to march my narrow gluteus over to MUDFLATS and ASK him/them ta do some "looking!" -for those TRANSCRIPTS!!!
Isn't it interesting that Obama posted a copy of his birth certificate to quell rightwing smears and yet, nada on Baby Trig (announcing her pregnancy at 7 months when she didn't look pregnant and mysteriously Bristol is missing from school for 5 months in this time period; the 12 hour flight from Texas, etc.) her taxes, The Alaskan Independence Party speeches and Todd's membership, her college transcripts...
I'm going to do a Rikyrah here -

excellent. This is what folks need to see. I enjoyed seeing him tear up and nervously to with his ring as Michelle spoke. Also, seeing him talk about the Jonas Brothers was interesting. He seemed truly relaxed. This was a different view for me; so I really think it's compelling.
I almost want something candid/infomercially on the Obama channel or some sort of special interview. It really humanizes him.
