Bailout passes Senate 74-25

Both Obama and McCain voted aye. My colleague David Rogers has much more here.

The wide margin and addition of sweetners has given McCain's camp hope that the House will pass the bill Friday and they can begin to turn the page from the short-term economic crisis and be able to drive a message.

According to the campaign pool report, McCain and Obama had only a brief encounter on the Senate floor.

Wrote Michael Cooper of the NYT: "At one point Senator Barack Obama walked over to the Republican side to shake Mr. McCain's hand; Mr. McCain barely interrupted his conversation, and did not pivot to face him, shaking his hand for only a moment."

My colleague Ryan Grim tried to engage McCain on the matter after tonight's vote, but didn't fare much better:

McCain: "Excuse me, you're bothering me."

Politico: "I'm bothering you?"

McCain: "Excuse me, I have to go."

I'm beginning to wonder if McCain got his “maverick” reputation because he gets angry a lot, and as a Republican senator, he got angry a lot with his fellow Republicans. This may simply mean that he'll get angry with WHOMEVER he hangs around with. Palin seems to be filled with anger as well. The country needs healing and intelligence, not a President with a temper.

The conservative newspaper who just endorsed Obama, first in 72 years, named it. McCain and his generation are still trying to win the Vietnam War. The eye blinking and anger must be post traumatic stress syndrome. ESPECIALLTY when he's saying I won't let the troops LEAVE (I hear: even in a body bag) with out Victory. When I wonder who wins when children lose their father, mothers have to bury their sons, a country spirals out of economic control- footing the bill for a war it cannot afford.

McCain lacks context, is mentally unstable, and is UNFIT to be POTUS.
