Took one look at it, downloaded it, had it running, all in the space of about three minutes. Thanks Barack for sensing that this device (in my case a $200 iPod Touch!) is in fact the future and further thanks to Apple's engineering and design folks who gave them this breakthrough device!

I feel you — it sucks to be in one of the “non-competitive” states. During the primaries they gave up on Massachusetts; all we had to give out before Super-Tuesday was HALF sheets of plain white paper. Not even a full 8.5×11 — half. In blank ink, on flimsy white paper. Meanwhile, every other state I was in (SC, VT, PA) had color, heavy-duty door hangers.

But we did what we could, because we knew that the campaign had a strategy and that we were down in the trees. As it turns out, what they had done was pull all their resources out of MA and pushed it into CT — which we won (barely). It was important that the campaign have ONE state in the Northeast for Obama after Super Tuesday, so, they did what they needed to do. We got clobbered here, and our governor and senators took a reputation hit with it. So yes it sucks to be the rear guard. But we won in the big picture.

Try getting into his Chicago campaign headquarters. No walk-in volunteers here. You need advance screening to be buzzed up!
True, buttons and shirts don't “win” elections — but they inspire volunteers, make them feel part of the team, and encourage them to work extra hard to get out the vote. By relying so heavily on internet communication, Obama may be inspiring a whole lot of people who don't know how to log off and walk into a polling place!

Wonderful.

Now if my local (Memphis) Obama campaign headquarters could afford something better than handwritten posterboard signs on the walls. If only they had yard signs and bumper stickers and t-shirts to give to supporters. Instead, it looks like a badly-run church bake sale, stuck in a barely-visible hole in the wall, through no fault of the dedicated workers. They told me in no uncertain terms that they just aren't receiving the money and party support they need.

But at least they have cool iphone apps. Christ on a Cracker.
