It sort of reminds me of a statement from Vine Deloria, Jr :
"Western civilization, unfortunately, does not link knowledge and morality but rather, it connects knowledge and power and makes them equivalent. Today with an information `superhighway' now looming on the horizon, we are told that a lack of access to information will doom people to a life of meaninglessness -- and poverty. As we look around and observe modern industrial society, however, there is no question that information, in and of itself, is useless and that as more data is generated, ethical and moral decisions are taking on a fantasy dimension in which a `lack of evidence to indict' is the moral equivalent of the good deed."
"This was a partisan led inquiry run by (Barack) Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper (Michael) Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior," the campaign's statement said. Obama is the Democratic presidential candidate.
Sooooo, this investigation was DRIVEN by Mr. Obama who had CONTROL over the 10 Repugs and the 4 Dems.

OMG, Palin had her youngest daughter on stage with the same glasses she wears. Yuck.
Well, as the story goes on, it doesn't appear that she has committed an impeachable offense. O well. I still hope she goes down in flames and all the racists realize that they have been played.
Teacher
Uh oh. What if they replace her with Romney? S'not gonna happen. Either way, THEY LOSE!!!!!!!!!!
pjamma
I'm getting nervous about that, too. Bring in someone else with three weeks to go and all of a sudden he may have a chance. Especially if he does a complete 180 on Palin and spins it as he does not think someone who abuses their authority and lacks ethics should be in the White House. Then he will tie it to Obama and his "lack of ethics" in associating with Ayers, ACORN, Wright and Rezco. This becomes the story. Add a God fearing man like Huckabee to the ticket and McCain wins.
I'm gonna go throw up now.
Teacher
THANK YOU SARAH PALIN!!!! Oh yeah, baby!!!! This is our ticket to RIIIIIIIDE. She might be subject to criminal charges! This calls for impeachment....A little burning in effigy in pig lipstick!!! Why am I so happy?!?

caligirl, Co-sign! Barack Obama is not the world 's saivor. These folks play, they pay it's called Karma. I think Barack leads by example, and accepts responsibility for himself, and so should every one else.

McCain-Palin release comment and somehow they manage to blame Obama for the Alaska legislative findings. Even more amazingly they say the report shows she acted within her authority to terminate Monegan (didn't they find she abused her authority?) I will post the text when it is on-line. I just heard it on MSNBC.
Found the text on Rueters:
The McCain-Palin statement said, "Today's report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan."
"This was a partisan led inquiry run by (Barack) Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper (Michael) Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior," the campaign's statement said. Obama is the Democratic presidential candidate.
"Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact," the McCain-Palin statement said. (World Desk Americas 1-202-898-8347)
They aren't even trying to tie things to reality.

WTF is this ACORN CRAP? CNN's Larry King is covering this, when mcshame and pale-in should be front and center
I think Obama should give another race speech. I said it yesterday and feel even stronger about it today with McCain's essentially whispered (as opposed to "full-throated") attempt to tamp down the raging flames of today's Jim Crow mobs.
An Obama speech would show whether he's a leader or just a gifted politician.
I would predict that he will during his 1/2 primetime ad buy on October 29.
caligirl
it isn't obama's responsibility to give a speech every time folks decide to lose their damn minds. if a speech is to be given, let mccain try to stumble through one.
Val
agreed. They can access Barack's speech on race via youtube.
Nquest, I would be very interested in John McCain's explanation.
Because I am feeling that if he were to win the White House, he would be quick to break out the Whites Only and Coloreds signs. So yes, I want John McCain to explain it.
You say "responsibility" while I'm talking OPPORTUNITY.
What I'm talking about is not another case of Obama having to delicately distance himself from and pathologize Black people (e.g. Rev. Wright) while attempting to be more palatable to White folk. I'm talking about a chance for Obama to LEAD. A chance for Obama to be the inspirational leader people believe he is.
Obviously, I think McCain should have a serious press conference to fully confront the monster he created. He frankly hasn't done nearly enough.
Cali, I'm not talking "crosses" or, again, "responsibility."
You obviously just don't get it. It wasn't Obama's "cross to bear" when the Rev. Wright youtubes were blowing up but his happy azz jumped then. So one has to wonder: leader or merely politician?
I'm talking about Obama showing that his is a visionary LEADER instead of merely a gifted politician who is all about calculating "crosses to bear" and other stuff.
And you act like you can't read. Regardless as to this being an opportunity for McBush... it still presents an opportunity for Obama. This is about a vision for America.
Does Obama has one? Or was his race speech back in March merely the production of a triangulating politician?
Yes, for McCain this is about redemption... For Obama, however, this is an opportunity to inspire with a vision.
But now that I think about it... this is Obama's "responsibility." He missed his opportunity to throw down (t)his cross when Russert and Clinton cowed him into taking the Farrakhan test. He could have said (and he initially wanted to) that it's not his "responsibility" to answer for, denounce/reject/distance himself from folks White folks don't like.
It was real easy for him to tell the Uhuru brothers in FLA and his anti-FISA supporters how he won't always think like they do, etc. Yeah, easy like McCain & company stoking the race flames. So, yeah... Obama bears some responsibility since you really want to make it about that.
caligirl
before you start critiquing my reading (or anyone else's), you really could learn how to write. i don't know what kind of bug crawled up and died in your ass tonight, but that really isn't my problem. i don't come on here to stress.
you see it your way and i see it mine. case closed. in the end, obama's gonna do whatever HE wants.
You decided to "critique" what I wrote. You wanted to comment in response to what I wrote. So, obviously, there was some kind of bug, wild hair... something that crawled up your ass and when I responded to you... it caused you stress?
Too funny...
What's the matter? You didn't expect for me to have a comeback? Why does that bother you when, again, you decided to make an ignorant comment about something I said, not once but twice?
The moral to this story: Don't try to dish it when you can't take it.
And that "you really could learn how to write" stuff... PRICELESS!
Thanks for the entertainment.

this is a missed OPPORTUNITY for mccain and GEORGE BUSH (remember him?). black folks have had to shoulder the burden of bigotry and hatred for too long--it's time for others to step up. imagine bush calling mccain and palin out for this mess--it could be his one last gasp at some semblance of redemption. this is not obama's cross to bear.
Yeah Palin is unprofessional but here is ANOTHER issue that has not been discussed at all.
"The investigation revealed that Palin's husband, Todd, has extraordinary access to the governor's office and her closest advisers. He used that access to try to get trooper Mike Wooten fired, the report found."
Who the hell is this guy besides a American traitor (AIP.) Does this guy have a college education? Is he a redneck, like Bristol's baby daddy? I know he works in oil, does it gets his hands dirty or is he a big dog? Where does he get HIS money. SHADY as hell and far scarier than Sarah's pathetic, weak ass.
He's the shadow governor. That was reported the minute she was announced.
Y'all need to read this:
Palin backed [former Alaska Independence party chairman, Mark] Chryson as he successfully advanced a host of anti-tax, pro-gun initiatives, including one that altered the state Constitution’s language to better facilitate the formation of anti-government militias. She joined in their vendetta against several local officials they disliked, and listened to their advice about hiring. She attempted to name Stoll, a John Birch Society activist known in the Mat-Su Valley as “Black Helicopter Steve,” to an empty Wasilla City Council seat. “Every time I showed up her door was open,” said Chryson. “And that policy continued when she became governor.” ...
Unlike some radical right-wingers, Chryson doesn’t put forward his ideas freighted with anger or paranoia. And in a state where defense of gun and property rights often takes on a real religious fervor, Chryson was able to present himself as a typical Alaskan. He rose through party ranks by reducing the AIP’s platform to a single page that “90 percent of Alaskans could agree with.”
This meant scrubbing the old platform of what Chryson called “racist language” while accommodating the state’s growing Christian right movement by emphasizing the AIP’s commitment to the “traditional family.” “The AIP is very family-oriented,” Chryson explained. “We’re for the traditional family — daddy, mommy, kids — because we all know that it was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. And we don’t care if Heather has two mommies. That’s not a traditional family.”
Chryson further streamlined the AIP’s platform by softening its secessionist language. Instead of calling for immediate separation from the Uni ted States, the platform now demands a vote on independence. Yet Chryson maintains that his party remains committed to full independence. “The Alaskan Independence Party has got links to almost every independence-minded movement in the world,” Chryson exclaimed. “And Alaska is not the only place that’s about separation. There’s at least 30 different states that are talking about some type of separation from the United States.”
He hasn't been vetted the way he should have. It wouldn't haven taken an informal investigation to get those employees to sing, had they been ASKED. That's all I'm saying... not that I'm signing up to visit his stomping grounds.

On a human level, I actually feel bad for McCain because he's going to lose (but not bad enough for him to win lol). And he knows it. And telling that lady tonight that Barack was NOT the boogeyman was Death Knell #1 to his campaign.
Sarah Palin is Death Knell #2.
Whether he told that lady that Barack was not the boogeyman to get the heat off of him or whether he told her because he doesn't want to be linked with rabid racists or to finally regain control of his campaign, we'll never know.
The problem with McCain, as with Hillary, is they concentrated too damn much on OBAMA instead of concentrating on themselves. Talk about YOU and how YOU have a plan and how YOU want to change things. Don't talk about the other guy.
If you were in a job interview, you'd tell HR how good YOU are. Not how that guy in the lobby was picking his nose and flung a pen at the receptionist.
The energy flowing from Hillary's campaign was nasty and negative and mean, and those are the types of people (Ferraro, PUMA) she ended up attracting. The energy flowing from the McCain campaign is also negative, nasty and mean, and that's the type of people his campaign is attracting.
What if it struck him today on that stage, that all these people shouting for Obama's head and to kill him and shouting racial epithets at innocent sound men --- what if it struck him, "Hey, my daughter has dark skin. What if she came to one of these rallies, would somebody start shouting on her?"
Maybe?
Palin, I couldn't care less about her, and I hope she is sent packing back to Alaska where the citizens can go all "moose hunt" on her and Todd's asses. Maybe Bristol and Levi can escape their fates instead of being forced to marry to save Mommy's political hide.

Mudflats was ON IT 2!! Just about to post it!!
The Legislative Council has voted unanimously to release the public portion of the report.
Findings:
Finding Number One:
For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides
“The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”
Finding Number Two:
I find that, although Walt Monegan’s refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
Finding Number Three:
Harbor Adjustment Service of Anchorage, and its owner Ms. Murleen Wilkes, handled Trooper Michael Wooten’s workers’ compensation claim properly and in the normal course of business like any other claim processed by Harbor Adjustment Service and Ms. Wilkes. Further, Trooper Wooten received all the workers’ compensation benefits to which he was entitled.
Finding Number Four:
The Attorney General’s office has failed to substantially comply with my August 6, 2008 written request to Governor Sarah Palin for information about the case in the form of emails.
Everyone’s been waiting for the bottom line, so there it is! More to come soon.
I AM SOOOO HAPPY!!O HAPPY DAY!! Video will be forthcoming!:>)

2. The Troopergate report WILL be released to the PUBLIC! :>)
It’s 9:15 in Alaska, and the Legislative Council is meeting right now.
The Legislative Council is expected to vote sometime today whether to make the 263-page report public. The legislators will first meet behind closed doors, starting around 9 a.m. this morning, to receive a briefing from Steve Branchflower, the investigator they hired to look into the governor’s dismissal of her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, and whether she improperly pressured him to fire a state trooper divorced from her sister. The meeting of the 14-member council will be at the downtown Anchorage Legislative Information Office.
[snip]
Meantime, a group calling itself “Alaskans for Truth” wrote a letter to Palin on Thursday saying the Supreme Court decision proves that “there is no evidence this investigation has been anything but ‘fair and just.’ ” The group organized an anti-Palin rally late last month, called for the attorney general to lose his job over his handling of the investigation, and encouraged people to urge members of the Legislative Council to make Branchflower’s report public.

Poweful video attached to a Post by a "Field Hand" over at Al Girodiano's The Field Website. Check it out guys, you won't regret it:
McBush is attempting to reel back his angry rhetoric that, undoubtedly, incited the stunning vitriol coming from the GOP base. He now has the utmost respect for Senator Obama, and wants his supporters to know it.
To McCain, I say: Bitch, Puhleeze!!! You've already let the genie out of the bottle. You better pray that those putrid seeds that you and your campaign recklessly planted this week, does not bear fruit.
Too little, too late. Just a couple of hours ago, his campaign tried to link Michelle (yes, Michelle) Obama to Bill Ayers' wife.
They also tried to turn the tables on Obama for having the audacity to defend himself against these attacks. . . saying that it was Obama who was attacking small town America.
They released two ads this morning (one RNC and one McCain) attacking Obama on Ayers this morning.
And McCain promised his crowd that he would confront Obama about Ayers (probably Wright as well) in the near future.
Sorry, but I'm not buying McCain's sudden change of heart. The actions of his campaign imply that they plan to go full speed ahead.

I am not sure if this has been posted, but I just saw this on Huffington Post
Barack Obama's campaign put together a video of behind-the-scenes campaign footage to answer the question John McCain and Sarah Palin keep asking: "Who Is Barack Obama?"
at this point i can no longer take the folks stanning for obama nor the racist palin/mccain nutjobs. anyone looking for one man to make a difference at this point is crazy. the black panthers said it best...all power to the people. so let's hope this overall election has woken up a sleepy, apathethic america to what the collective can do. the people are the only thing that has made a difference in this world. that all said, obama will literally be two blocks from my house tomorrow so I guess i'll go check him out. and rikyrah, where did you find that photo....i love it.

Rezko is singing...and this could be bad for Obama.
As someone who has lived in Chicago my entire life, I am not surprised by the company Obama keeps. No one moves through the fetid pool of political cronyism and corruption here and keeps the 'big stink' off of themselves.
The city and state are corrupt as all get out and the feds have long been looking to crack the Daily Machine and Al Capone-style business dealing.
Now, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reports Tony Rezko may be giving the feds a long look at Chicago Machine politics than first thought. Her sources tell her that Rezko has started singing about a politically-connected bank, Broadway Bank, run by the family of Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.
The Giannoulias family has been involved with Obama as far back as his first state senate campaign in 1996. Rezko and the Giannoulias family are as close and tied together as anyone in Chicago could be.
It has been long rumored here in Chicago that Obama obtained a sweetheart deal on his first town home here in Chicago — and the financing came from Broadway Bank, the Giannoulias bank. The Giannoulias family helped Obama with his campaign finances and gets him deeper in their pocket with his sweetheart mortgage deal (for the first home he owned that he could not afford) – all in exchange for quid pro quo...
Could that quid pro quo have been an endorsement of Alexi Giannoulias by Barak Obama? Giannoulias would have never become State Treasurer without Obama’s help.
In March 2006, Giannoulias said that "his 'good friend and mentor, Barack Obama,' inspired him to run."
In fact, Giannoulias' "endorsers" were basically the base of the Obama coalition: white north side progressives and south side blacks.
Every politician in the Chicago area, Daleyites and anti-Daleyites, eager to collect campaign funds from Greek Americans backed Giannoulias. Obama's early endorsement was critical.
People I know heard that Tony Rezko is giving up the Giannoulias family to Patrick Fitzgerald. If Rezko is turning on them, then Rezko is going to give up Governor Rod Blagojevich and Obama too.
Val
indie - we could care less. There is no way in hell we would allow McCain/Palin to get anywhere near the White House with their race baiting crap. All I am saying is that you need to let your boss know that he needs to make sure this does not escalate.

LOL, I always trust the word of trolls on blogs.
There's this one guy -- I forget his name, last name starts with an R i think -- who has been posting that oooooh, bad Rezko-related things are going to happen to Barack Obama like relly relly SOON, like any minute now, like at least in "the next two weeks" -- and I googled him and found that he's been making this very same claim since late May/early June.
Maybe this troll is that guy! But maybe not, they're kinda interchangeable in their talking points. Often cut and pasted as well.
So, indie-ed troll-thing, tell us your real name and stand behind your words in a way we can verify. You claim to be in Chicagoand know things -- how can we verify who you are, who are these "people you know" and let us verify them as well.
Right now, it's kind of like you're part of some sort of weird religious cult that keeps saying some major religious event will happen on such and such a date, and when it doesn't, they hope no one notices or something....

Barack Obama appears as "Barack Osama" on absentee ballots in New York State.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's last name is spelled "Osama" on hundreds of absentee ballots mailed out this week to voters in Rensselaer County.
The misspelling, which elections officials on both sides of the aisle insist was simply a typo, is causing embarrassment for the county.
''No question this is an honest mistake innocently done,'' said Edward McDonough, the Democratic commissioner. ''We catch almost everything.''
''This was a typo,'' said Republican Commissioner Larry Bugbee. ''We have three different staff members who proof these things and somehow the typo got by us.''
All I can say is, actually, I'm at a loss for words.
Michelle
I just sent an email to Governor Spitzer. You don't need to be from NY to contact him through the site
I don't think that Rensselaer County's "solution" of only mailing correct ones to the three people who have called and complained is sufficient. I am hoping the governor's office and/or the Attorney General of the state is involved. I wonder if there is any possibility of criminal or other legal charges against those responsible for this (I know nothing about legal stuff, just kind of wondering).
I also wonder if there is anything
pjamma
Good idea except you should probably send it to Governor Paterson since Ex-Governor Spitzer is on a permanent vacation from politics.
David Paterson is the governor of New York now NOT Eliot Spitzer! He resigned in disgrace a few months ago, remember???
Michelle
LOL yes. I actually had Governor Paterson's face in my mind as I wrote, but still addressed it to Governor Spitzer. I sent an apology and correction right away through that form when I realized it (just after posting the above).
I was a little .... flustered to read about this thing. I didn't realize it when I was first sending the message, but I was.
Thanks so much Anovelista and pjamma for pointing out the error here. Kinda important to address it to the correct governor!
Just expect your comment to be read on Fox "News" as they say "see anyone can make a typo." LOL.
Michelle
Just expect your comment to be read on Fox "News" as they say "see anyone can make a typo." LOL.
Let them try, because that is not the logical conclusion here. Mine is not a typo, it's writing the name of one person NOT in a particular role for another person who is in that role.
NOT A TYPO by any stretch of the imagination. It is mistaking one name/person for another. Somewhere in my subconscious, I still thought of Spitzer as the gov even when I was picturing Paterson's face.
So then to make a parallel, Fox in this hypothetical thing would be saying that somewhere in their subconscious, the people who did this think of Osama as running for president under Senator Obama's face?
I know you probably didn't mean me to take this so seriously, but -- I guess I do :)
pjamma
I was joking. I was making fun of Fox for being able to take something that is in no way true and spin it. It's what they do.
Michelle
Sigh, clearly I am too flustered to make any sense .... should've occurred to me you were joking.
This nastiness is getting to me. Time for me to take a step back....
Michelle
I can't believe they're saying they are only going to send new ballots to the three people who requested them...
caligirl
no, they're claiming that they have 3 different proofreaders who supposedly missed this typo...
Michelle
Not the way I read it:
So far three people have called to point it out, he said. Those people will get new ballots sent to them.
Seems pretty clear to me that this is their "solution" -- only send correct ones to the ones who call in to complain...
caligirl
ohhhh. that's what i get for not reading the link. just read what was here.
this is unacceptable. sending an e-mail to paterson immediately. thanks for the link.
Rezko giving Obama up to federal prosecutors. "Barack Obama will serve a prison sentence in the next few years — because knowing Fitzgerald, there is no reason he would be going through all of this if that was not the targeted goal in the long term. Rezko and the Giannoulias family are as close and tied together as anyone in Chicago could be. If Rezko is turning on them, then Rezko is going to give up Governor Rod Blagojevich and Obama too."

A friend at another site wrote this and I his words hit the mark perfectly.
Don't Be Afraid
Some folks are worried about an October Surprise. Others are worried about Sarah Palin's fascist appeals to her supporters. They're worried because of the damage that could be done to the man who most likely will be our next President as he tries to cope with threats more dangerous than any we have ever faced, and all of them stemming from our own national irresponsibil ity. Other people are even fearful for Barack Obama's life, as McCain allows -- and even appears to encourage -- condemnations of Obama as a terrorist.
But I'm looking at the polls and the arguments that the polls don't accurately project the true magnitude of Obama's win next month because they judge "likely voters" to be those who have voted in the past. Their counts don't reflect the huge numbers of new registrants, supporters of Barack Obama, who are determined to vote him into office. It seems that Obama's victory could be overwhelming. At any rate, it's likely to be much more than the barely 1% margins we've seen in many recent elections.
And Americans have always given their new Presidents a "grace period" of a hundred days or so to get the ball rolling. During that period, their job ratings have always been better than their percentages in the election.
Finally, Republicans have thoroughly educated the American people on the techniques of deception and how to mislead voters and divide them. We are well aware that their motives include what is good for our country only peripherally, only to the extent that it allows the controllers of the Republican Party to obtain more personal power and wealth for themselves at the expense of everyone else. That they would sell us down the river for their personal gain has become clearer than ever before. But now we know that they cannot be trusted.
It is true that the Republican party still has a lot of adherents among the middle and poorer classes who could never benefit from Republican government; the purpose of Republican government is, after all, to serve the desires of a small, wealthy, elite. But the remainder of their supporters may be motivated by prejudice, or merely by tradition passed down from their parents. Others seek the authoritarian government that Republicans promise, thinking that their security can be guaranteed only if they give up their civil rights. And others are simply easily duped through inadequate education to believe Republicans when they say they have the answers to our problems, even though every time they get control of our government they make things worse. The fascism that Sarah Palin employs is very attractive to people when they feel fearful and weak, and keeping people fearful and weak has been a hallmark of Republican policies for decades.
But the ranks of Republican supporters is shrinking, I think, more dramatically than we suspect. People have had four years to digest the right-wing's Swift Boat attack against Kerry. They understand that they have been defrauded. They see how similar those attacks were to what McCain and Palin are doing now.
And they -- we! -- won't let it happen again.
Repairing the damage that Republicans have done to our country will take a long time. We all will feel the strain, and we all must play a part in those repairs. We are, after all, members of the same community. But I have not met one person who does not believe we can succeed.
I am very proud of my country right now, not only because we're about to elect a black man to the Presidency, but also because we're about to elect a smart man and a good man, one who really does care about his country, and one who is capable of leading us back to the ideals of freedom and fellowship upon which our great country was founded. And we, as a strong community, will work with him to create a world in which we and our children can live in peace and harmony.
A better future lies ahead. Don't be afraid.

My personal conspiracy theory:
I'm wondering if all these people screaming "Bomb Obama" or "Kill Him!" or "Treason!" aren't plants, designed to deliberating whip up emotions and cause an "incident" (aka riots) before Election Day, facilitating the need to "suspend" the elections. I just find it real interesting that all of a sudden mobs are ramping up, talk show hosts are egging on the situation calling for riots (Rash Limpballs), claiming that the election is about to be stolen, that if Obama is election it would be a coup (how the hell you have a COUP in an election), etc.
I'm seriously thinking about staying home on Nov. 5th because the angry white mob is either going to lose their shit and take it out on innocent black people if Obama wins, or if he loses they will be super BOLD and take it out on innocent black people.
All these nasty emotions have got to go somewhere, and while I worry about the Obamas safety, I'm more worried about the safety of all of us non-white citizens. McCain and Palin and their minions would rather burn this country up than lose to Obama.
John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.
At a Sarah Palin rally, someone called out, "Kill him!" At one of your rallies, someone called out, "Terrorist!" Neither was answered or denounced by you or your running mate, as the crowd laughed and cheered. At your campaign event Wednesday in Bethlehem, Pa., the crowd was seething with hatred for the Democratic nominee - an attitude encouraged in speeches there by you, your running mate, your wife and the local Republican chairman.
Shame!
John McCain: In 2000, as a lifelong Republican, I worked to get you elected instead of George W. Bush. In return, you wrote an endorsement of one of my books about military service. You seemed to be a man who put principle ahead of mere political gain.
You have changed. You have a choice: Go down in history as a decent senator and an honorable military man with many successes, or go down in history as the latest abettor of right-wing extremist hate.
John McCain, you are no fool, and you understand the depths of hatred that surround the issue of race in this country. You also know that, post-9/11, to call someone a friend of a terrorist is a very serious matter. You also know we are a bitterly divided country on many other issues. You know that, sadly, in America, violence is always just a moment away. You know that there are plenty of crazy people out there.
Stop! Think! Your rallies are beginning to look, sound, feel and smell like lynch mobs.
John McCain, you're walking a perilous line. If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out "Terrorist" or "Kill him," history will hold you responsible for all that follows.
John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us. You are doing this in wartime. You are doing this as our economy collapses. You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.
Change the atmosphere of your campaign. Talk about the issues at hand. Make your case. But stop stirring up the lunatic fringe of haters, or risk suffering the judgment of history and the loathing of the American people - forever.
We will hold you responsible.

Well, according to a conservative white fella on another forum I read, what Obama supporters are doing at Obama rallies is different, just as bad:
"So while it IS different, the fact that you have a person saying "KILL" AT a McCain rally, or having a GROUP chanting "Obama, Obama,Obama" and NOT allowing the candidate to speak, while DIFFERENT are BOTH disrupting the process."
"You HAVE to let them BOTH speak and make their case, you DO NOT have to agree with what they are saying."
Yeah- somebody actually said this.

Unbelievable!
Town
Shouting OBAMA! is NOT the same as KILL! TREASON! BOMB OBAMA! SIT DOWN BOY! TRAITOR! and other assorted words.
Really if McPalin wants to talk about terrorists, they need to look at themselves for inciting terror. If ANYONE gets hurt this election season, I'm holding them responsible.
Justice58
Town,
Crooks & Liars has a video posted of people waiting in line for a McCain/Palin Rally and you should hear them ranting hate. It was so disturbing that I had to stop watching. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Craig is right. It makes one fearful. God, Nov. 4th can't come fast enough!
Plantsmantx
Yes, I saw that one. If you can't watch that, I'm glad you haven't seen the one from the rally in Strongsburg, OH in which a woman is carrying an Obama doll into the rally, and as the guy doing the video is asking her questions, her small child blurts out "You have to wear gloves to touch him!". Now, you know that the child didn't come up with that on her own. That's how sick and twisted some of these people are.
Justice58
Wait. Doesn't America condemn this very hatred taught to young Iraqi children about America? But yet it is okay in America to teach hatred to young white kids about non white people!
How sick to teach young innocents such thoughts. These kind of mofos shouldn't have kids at all.
Anderkoo
These kinds of angry mobs was predictable from the moment Michael Steele set the RNC screaming "Drill baby drill."
That a black man would lead the 99% white audience in a chant echoing the most notorious cry of the so-called "race riots" of 1965 onwards is -- to put it mildly -- highly irresponsible.
It was nice to come here today and see so many positive frontpage articles!!!
Thanks.
(I'm still very afraid though.)
Val
Craig - there you go. Remember a few weeks ago (I think it was last week) when you thought it was all over and Barack would ride the waves. :-) I told you not to say that. Remember? :-) Well, we knew this would happen and we also knew it would not be easy.
Think of it as childbirth -- the closer you get to delivery the worse the contractions, pain etc. But you know what -- it is going to be alright and when it is all done - you won't remember the pain but will revel in the re-birth of a nation.
I'm afraid for many members of our citizenry who are not protected by bodyguards.
I can't walk with courage through my fear if I don't acknowledge it.
Val
right there with you Craig. It is going to be alright. and I don't "think" he will win. There is power in the tongue -- say I KNOW he will win.
Keep praying for his safety and the safety of others -- you know he will need it.
Justice58
So true Val! But after listening to a portion of the video posted at Crooks & Liars of the people waiting in line to a McCain/Palin Rally ranting hate towards Obama, I am fearful too.But I do pray for Obama's safety more than ever before. It's unbelieveable crazy red-necked ignorant mofos out there! McCain/Palin has whipped these mofos up to a frenzy. The seed is out there! McCain/Palin along with Hillary planted that seed!
Val
Something BIG is happening Justice and it is beyond Barack Obama, McCain or even us. You can't help but feel it.
We may not understand and we may be tempted to be afraid, but let go and let God. Pray and trust. It's hard but we all know how to do this and it is in our blood. It is weird but I feel like in this moment our destiny is now intertwined with the past, hold on dig deep for the faith that allowed our ancestors to persevere. Again, this is beyond our control, so let go, let God and prepare to be witnesses. I am just glad we are writing all this down to share with future generations. I am also glad that I found JJP and I got to share this experience with you all.
Barack Obama attacked John McCain on Friday for launching a “barrage of nasty insinuations and attacks” as the stock market tumbled.
“Even as we face the most serious economic crisis of our time, even as you are worried about keeping your jobs or paying your bills or staying in your homes, my opponent’s campaign announced last week that they plan to ‘turn the page’ on the discussion about our economy so they can spend the final weeks of this election attacking me instead,” Obama said during a speech in Chillicothe, Ohio.
“So in the last couple of days, we’ve seen a barrage of nasty insinuations and attacks, and I’m sure we’ll see much more over the next 25 days. We know what’s coming. We know what they’re going to do.”
“I think that folks are looking for something different,” Obama continued. “It’s easy to rile up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that’s not what we need right now in the United States.”
“The times are too serious. The challenges are too great. The American people aren’t looking for someone who can divide this country — they’re looking for someone who will lead it. We’re in a serious crisis — now, more than ever, it is time to put country ahead of politics.” Read more stories in Politics '08.

Palin bringing the hate to the city of brotherly love tonight, 7pm
There are better things to do (like door knocking and phonebanking) but still it would be wonderful to see an uber-peaceful counter-rally with truly Christian (and other faith) messages of love and peace; "love thy neighbor"
Inside a Nairobi pub recently, a folk group sang the praises of Barack Obama, hoping that their ode to Kenya’s new favourite son will match the US political star’s meteoric rise.
In a pulsating dance rhythm — a fusion of one-string fiddles, drums, cow horn and strident vocals — the all-male Kenge Kenge folk troupe has produced a catchy song about the US presidential hopeful ahead of the November 4 election.
“In America blessing is Obama, American people for good change vote Obama. In America ooh, in America, this is the time, if you miss it it’s gone,” the vocalists sang.
Yes, I know. The ongoing battle is over some alleged IAVA ties to Obama; apparently, one of their staffers is/was directing the "Veterans for Obama" coalition for the campaign.

I just wanted to point out (as a military spouse whose husband is currently deployed) that there is an alternate opinion out there. My husband and I along with all of our military friends(anecdotal i know)both are casting our votes for Obama. We do not believe that McCain would be a good commander in chief.
“You probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this.” What Oliver Clark (the Black man at the debate that John Mccain said this to) had to say about that comment. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/...

CPR, it's not mean or evil to want to run down those signs, however, it's good to keep the enemy close. I've had one of my Obama/Biden yard signs vandalized ONCE! Here's what I did with the sign I have now: I put a glow in the dark sign on the sign stating: "This property is under security surveilance. Touch this sign, and the PO PO is coming to lock up your sorry ass! Have a Blessed Day."

rikyrah: Still having difficulties with my computer.
In the Democratic primaries, working-class whites consistently backed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Later polls showed them overwhelmingly favoring Republican nominee John McCain.
Now, driven by fears that their personal finances could further deteriorate, many see Obama as the better choice — their thinking in some cases driven more by concern about how McCain would handle the economy than any growing admiration for his rival.
“I don’t know that there’s anything I particularly like about him (Obama), but I dislike McCain, and I dislike the way the country is, and Republicans need to change,” said lifelong Republican Ruth Ann Michel, 64, a retiree shopping in a market in Butler on a recent day. She said her vote for Obama would be her first for a Democratic presidential candidate.

MsKitty, thanks for the Craig Fergenson/ Betty White video post. LMAO!
Does anyone know who this guy is? He would be a perfect addition to SNL as Obama! I'm sending this clip to SNL. Check him out...at the very least it's a good morning laugh.
Could you send this to Mr. Obama's web site 2?? If so, THANKS!!

GreenLady, I will. I found this video via a link on a site reviewing last nights SNL and ever since I have sent it to everyone I know. This guy does a brilliant Obama! And since Obama will be our next President he needs to replace Fred Armisen. I wish I knew his name. I'm not sure if "Alphacat" is a screen name or what he formally goes by.

Lynn Sweet of The Chicago Sun Times (no Obama fan in my book) dismantles McCain's latest lying attack add "The Chicago Way" that stars Ayers & Rezko of course. Surprise, surprise, they get everything about Chicago politics wrong.
McCain targets Ayers, Rezko and Bill Daley in "Chicago Way" spot
Making a reference to the "Chicago Way," the Republican National Committee links together Tony Rezko, Bill Ayers and William Daley in a new overheated negative spot released Friday to run in Wisconsin and Indiana, battlegrounds adjacent to Illinois.
The McCain team continues to focus on Barack Obama's associations as the world economy is sinking and the Dow is plunging again.
The spot takes a parochial approach--pumping up presumed anti-Chicago sentiment in the Hoosier and Badger states.
Analysis:
Voice over: The Chicago Way. Shady politics. That's Barack Obama's training.
Lynn Sweet comment: The McCain camp is trying to make Obama into yet another hack Chicago alderman. Unless you're talking about deep dish pizza, saying something is "The Chicago Way" is not a compliment. Actually Obama's political roots in Chicago are related to the Democratic faction aligned with the late Mayor Harold Washington--not the Daley family. It was later in Obama's political life that he formed importance alliances with the Daley faction; his top strategist, David Axelrod, is Mayor Daley's top advisor and his counselor-at-large in the presidential campaign is Valerie Jarrett, who comes out of the Daley City Hall--as does Michelle Obama, who worked for Jarrett.
Voice over: His teachers? Tony Rezko: Convicted of corruption, money laundering, aiding and abetting bribery. Rezko got Obama in on a shady land deal.
Lynn Sweet comment: The timeline is wrong. Obama's "boneheaded" move to involve Rezko in the purchase of his home--Rezko's wife buying the adjoining lot--came years before Rezko's conviction. Rezko was not even indicted at the time Obama bought the house--though Rezko was under investigation.
Voice over: William Daley: Heir to the Chicago machine. A top Obama advisor.
My comment: It's dirty to drag William Daley into this spot with two other men accused of criminal behavior. it is the second time the McCain team has used William Daley, Mayor Daley's brother, who is the actual "heir" to the "Chicago machine," or what is left of this. It is true that Daley is a top advisor.
And William Ayers: Leader of a terrorist group that bombed the U.S. Capitol. Obama's first campaign was launched at a gathering at Mr. Ayers's home.
Lynn Sweet comment: This line suggest that Ayers was critical to Obama's political career. He was not. Getting the early backing of then state Sen. Alice Palmer was more important, because that got him entree with local powerbrokers. Obama and Palmer would go on to have a falling out that lasts until this day.
Palmer decided to run for re-election; Obama would not drop out; Obama challenged the signatures on her nominating petitions and knocked Palmer--and all his opponents off the ballot, letting him claim a state senate seat without a fight.
Now that's the Chicago Way.

Last night I watched Craig Hickman's inspiring video wrap up of the DNC and was so completely captivated and enamored. Then I went over to either Politico or Daily Dish and watched some video of ignorant folks ranting after a McCain/Palin rally and got so frustrated.
Then, I realized when we see ignorant black folks on a crime scene we Southern ladies think, well bless their heart and keep it moving. However, just because of a variance of melanin MSM and America, too can put too much emphaisis on McCain/Palin rally goers' ignorance. Even their ignorance is considered more valuable. Just because they are perceived as the hearland and are Joe Sixpack or some other euphemism for working class whites. Isn't that something. The pathology of America can sometimes be simply too disconcerting.
Val
The son of William F. Buckley has decided—shock!—to vote for a Democrat.
Let me be the latest conservative/libertarian/whatever to leap onto the Barack Obama bandwagon. It’s a good thing my dear old mum and pup are no longer alive. They’d cut off my allowance.
Or would they? But let’s get that part out of the way. The only reason my vote would be of any interest to anyone is that my last name happens to be Buckley—a name I inherited. So in the event anyone notices or cares, the headline will be: “William F. Buckley’s Son Says He Is Pro-Obama.” I know, I know: It lacks the throw-weight of “Ron Reagan Jr. to Address Democratic Convention,” but it’ll have to do.
Told ya Campbell's pissed. She's been pissed ever since the rest of her insipid colleagues decided to give Caribou Barbie a free pass.

We need to send this to CNN. They had their so-called Truth Squad on this morning doing what the always try to do by saying "both campaigns do it" and, ironically, Jason Carroll used the same speech where Obama said they would say, "he doesn't look those other guys on the dollar bill."
Worse, the dumb Truth Squad episode (which has increasingly looked like an attempt to perform a hit on Obama), never reflected on how "Obama Knew All Along." They showed McCain's response to the Dollar Bill challenge even when the reason for episode was to deal with the race-baiting going on now.
Imagine that.

Watching Rachel Maddow last night (Thursday show) and her segment on those so-called angry town "hollers." Well, wasn't that Armstrong Williams who asked McPa to please, please bring up Rev. Wright at next debate? As Rachel says, "please talk me down." Anyone have footage? I so believe my eyes & ears.
Armstrong Williams is a pimp for the Bush Administration and has no credibility since he got busted for (a) being paid by Bush to hawk and promote No Child Left Behind, and (b) being busted for sexual harassment of his male physical trainer.
He would do well to crawl back under the rock from which he slithered.
The Washington Times reports that in 1986, John McCain wrote a note on House stationery to Charles Keating, chairman of a failed savings and loan association who went to prison in the late 1980s. In the letter, McCain apologized for listing Keating as part of his Senate campaign finance committee. Keating wrote in response: “You can call me anything, write anything or do anything. I’m yours till death do us part“:
keatin2.jpg
McCain has acknowledged his friendship with Keating, who helped funnel campaign contributions to McCain in the 80s. After Keating turned to McCain to try to stave off government intervention during the scandal, the Senate Ethics Committee admonished him for seemingly intervening with federal regulators on behalf of Keating.

rikyrah: The Gov. cain't solve her own State problems - for returning Veterans.
Published: October 9th, 2008 12:16 AM Last Modified: October 9th, 2008 04:09 PM
Alaska Army National Guard troops returning home to rural communities after year-long deployments to war zones face huge obstacles trying to receive standard veterans' health care, according to a report by Veterans for America.
That's because about 25 percent of Alaska's Guard members live in villages where no veteran health clinics are available, and they often have to travel long distances by plane to see a doctor, the national veterans advocacy organization reported.
But that's just one of several problems now facing Alaskans who were part of the U.S.-wide call to send Army National Guard troops into battle, according to the year-long study.
Job prospects for troops returning to villages are sometimes grim. And screening for mental health problems is still lacking for the 575 soldiers in the 3rd Battalion, 297th Regiment, who spent a year in northern Kuwait and southern Iraq from 2006 to 2007.

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- An outraged sheriff in Illinois who refuses to evict "innocent" renters from foreclosed homes criticized mortgage companies Thursday and said the law should protect victims of the mortgage meltdown.

Dart said earlier he is suspending foreclosure evictions in Cook County, which includes the city of Chicago.
