I just want you to see that we do still have free speech, and this blog sounds like "The View", with no opposing opinions allowed. My true opinion is that Barack Obama, is a created candidate, who has no record(check out Chicago, it is worse off) , he voted to raise taxes when he actually voted, but most of the time he only voted present. Took credit for things he did not do, and requested earmarks at the rate of a million dollars a day as a Senator. He sounds good, looks good and recites the lines well, but thats about it. He owes David Axelrod, thats where it all comes from, but he pays him well.

Wondering: if we accept that Obama is "created" as any given candidate may well be (that's the nature of politics), how might McCain have been created.

Apart, I'm not against any created candidate on that ground alone. Bankers are created by their mentors. Teachers are created. Good people doing good things are created. There's not a one of us that doesn't owe somebody. John Donne said it better: No man is an island. That's where Obama's spread the wealth ideology comes from. I'm not against that phrase because it's not as lopsided as republicans make it out to be. It is the epitome of shared benefit, shared sacrifice. Taxes are not evil. They are fees for services - I'm guessing you don't have your own police department or fire truck.

I think that's the problem with republican mythology: the Horatio Alger self-created man. The only problem with created folks is when creation does wrong as in Dr. Frankenstein's or when the creator is bad, as in Mr. Chaney. Chaney, though, started, according to one really good account, in the new book, Angler, as a Frankenstein, with stated good intentions in the fierce interest of protecting this country. He goes wrong and against the country where he does this at any cost and gives incentive to all kinds of collateral damage: paying off known evil-doin' folks and big corporations at the expense of the American people and our general moral authority.

McCain, to me, comes from that mythology, playing on our fears and wrecking his hero podium knowingly. I think he's a frustrated would-be leader who may now not even really want to be president, but, just like Chaney, has dug himself so deeply that his own mission is eating itself up. So he resorts to the tried and true tropes...racism, fear, and selfishness (making us regular old folk think we have some superiority by just being regular and hard-working and...broke.

I am sick of people spouting bad information when it is so easy to get the truth from multiple reliable sources.

Tell me Joan - who exactly did William Ayers kill and how does Acorn negatively affect your/anyone's vote on Nov 4? I am happy to wait for your response.

President Obama? Not so fast, says The New Republic’s Noam Scheiber. John McCain doesn’t need a “catastrophic external event” to defeat Obama on Election Day, Scheiber says.

“I happen to think Obama’s chances of winning are upward of 80 percent,” he writes at The Plank, his magazine’s political blog. He later adds, “But, truth be told, I can imagine a losing scenario that doesn’t involve outside events. It goes something like this: Obama wins all the Kerry states plus Iowa and New Mexico, giving him 264 electoral votes, then narrowly loses the rest of the red states where he’s currently competitive.”

Scheiber devises other plausible losing electoral maps for Obama. “Keep in mind that Obama loses if he wins all the Kerry states except Pennsylvania, even if he picks up Colorado, New Mexico, Iowa, and Virginia,” he writes. Here’s what Schieber, an Obama supporter, worries about:

1.) We’re at the point in the race when national trends may start diverging from trends in battleground states where McCain is still competing. After all, having an active campaign in a state makes a big difference. Just look at Michigan since McCain pulled out in early October. According to RCP, Obama is up 1.5 points nationally since October 2, but nearly 4.8 points in Michigan.

McCain is husbanding his resources for the absolute minimum number of electoral votes he needs to win, which means ignoring the national numbers and focusing on everything from Virginia on down the list of battlegrounds. There’s no reason to think he couldn’t lose the popular vote by 2-3 points but still win Virginia by 1.

2.) State polls seem to lag national polls, one-off polls tend to lag tracking polls, and polling averages (like the kind you find at RCP, Pollster.com, and FiveThirtyEight) lag any single poll by design. Which is to say, those state-level averages could easily be 5-7 days behind the current on-the-ground reality.

3.) While eight points is a lot to make up in two weeks, it’s not nearly as daunting over three weeks–well under half a point a day (.38, but who’s counting?). Or put differently: If, as some analysts** believe, the momentum shifted somewhat toward McCain last week, then Virginia could actually be much closer than 8 points today. We just wouldn’t know it till next week.

4.) Throw in a Bradley Effect of even a point or two on top of that, and a few more costly Biden gaffes, and I don’t think Virginia is necessarily out of reach.

It had drawn wide local and national -- even political attention, with the McCain and Obama campaigns weighing in -- but now the Ashley Todd story has fallen apart. Police in Pittsburgh have now declared the tale a hoax and the woman now faces charges for her deed.

Earlier today, John Moody, executive vice president at Fox News, commented on his blog there that "this incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election. If Ms. Todd's allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.

"If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."

He titled his posting: "Moment of Truth." Indeed.

It started yesterday afternoon with Matt Drudge screaming at the top of his site this afternoon in red type -- but no siren -- that a Pittsburgh campaign worker for McCain, age 20, had been viciously attacked and the letter "B" carved into her face, presumably by a Barack Obama fan. Her name, it soon emerged, was Ashley Todd and she had come to Pittsburgh from College Station, Texas, to help out.

It started to appear overblown (Drudge downgraded it to smaller, black type) as the police noted that it seemed to be a robbery ($60) and she did not seek medical attention. But later press reports said she would visit a hospital, Sarah Palin and maybe John McCain had reportedly called her and Obama has condemned the alleged assault, although McCain/Obama angle to story not yet confirmed.

Still later, conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, and some others, grew skeptical. For one thing, the "B" was carved a little too lightly and perfectly -- and backward, as if done using a mirror. Smoking Gun probed a too-pat "Twitter" angle and Gawker and Wonkette looked at her MySpace page.

Now police say that evidence from the ATM that she reportedly visited did not match her account. And it turns out she changed her story, admitting that her assailant did not see a McCain bumper sticker and adding to her account a sexual assault and losing consciousness. Drudge added a link titled "B...or B.S."? Finally, early this afternoon, came word that she had made it all up.

Due to the negative social constructions that have been attached to the black male body they have largely been accepted as truth. As the mother of two black sons I am sick to death of this shit. A Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Ashley Todd confessed to making up the story & is facing charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter "B" in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.

Ashley Todd, 20, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.

Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.

Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.

Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and "the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction."

This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.

The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be.

According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd's story that differed from statements made in the original police report.

Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: "Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do."

No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.

The investigation is continuing as officials determine what charges will be filed.

Governor Sarah Palin reportedly spoke with the victim by phone.

Bill Clinton needs to be planted in FL or OH, reminding voters of the good financial times during his administration and explaining, as only Bill Clinton can, that Obama simply wants to return to the tax structure of his administration when rich and poor alike benefitted. We're not going to win Arkansas or West Virginia and likely not both OH and FL and neither CO or NC are done deals, so why is the Campaign being greedy?

Furthermore, Joe Biden and his big mouth needs to be giving a major Foreign Policy speech that will allay concerns among skiddish voters about his recent comments. We all know what he meant, but the point is to say what you mean. The Campaign needs to project a strong executive team in Obama and Biden on Foreign Policy in stark contrast to that old man and the idiot a heart beat away.

I saw Barack at least 2 times on Tavis' PBS show.

IMO him being a Hillary supporter didn't have much to do with it. Tavis thought he was a kingmaker. He thought if Obama wanted to gain entry to the black community he had to go through Tavis, and if Obama didn't Tavis was going to shut him down.

Problem for Tavis is that Obama bypassed his ass so that Tavis' endorsement was no longer needed or desired and that's why Tavis is so mad. He's been rendered "not that important." He STILL thinks he's the "go to guy for Black America."

Request filed to remove Cockrel from mayoral election

DETROIT -- Political consultant Adolph Mongo this morning filed a request with the City Clerk's Office to remove Mayor Kenneth V. Cockrel Jr.'s name from the ballot for the February special mayoral election.

Mongo, who said he is not backing anyone in the race, said Cockrel lied when he signed an affidavit stating he was in compliance with state election laws when he submitted petitions to run in the special election. Cockrel owes $42,000 in campaign finance fees, according to the Wayne County Clerk's Office. That contradicts the affidavit, Mongo said today.

Cockrel has hired election law attorney Michael Hodge.

Mongo said Cockrel was one of the leaders of the push to remove former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office. Kilpatrick left office after pleading to perjury stemming from the ongoing text message scandal.

"He was the leader of the pack," Mongo said of Cockrel. "The leader of the witch hunt. Now he is the witch."

Cockrel told The Detroit News previously that a person in the Wayne County Clerk's Office told him no fines needed to be paid, but now the office is saying otherwise.

Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett has said the mayor and three others running for the office are not in compliance, and it would be up to the city clerk to determine whether they could be on the ballot.

Mongo said Kilpatrick was removed from office for lying, and Cockrel should be treated no differently.

"What makes him special?" Mongo said.

Cockrel's office was unavailable for comment this morning.

I think it is so sad that this is possibly a hoax, in an attempt to stir up further divisions, including racially motivated bias. And, if it turns out to be a hoax, it was clearly orchestrated in Pennyslvania for a reason---since McCain is banking on pulling off an upset there by stoking outrage among a certain demographic of voters who still remain uneasy about Obama.

Lawn jockey point: There are white people who do not know that the figure is an attempt to denigrate African American people. When I lived in rural upstate NY, I talked with several colleagues about their lawn ornaments. "They said it's a monkey, not a person." Then we had to have the history conversation including a talk about what is a racial slurs a nonverbal slur called an epithet. They were embarrassed when they looked it up for themselves. MANY of them removed their ornaments, some did not.

MANY white people have NO CLUE about the effects of slavery in our nation. I can just bet that the person's yard in the picture is one of those people have no clue. (OR NOT, but I still have hope.)

actually you would have to slap me too because I was not aware of that. My roots were in the Caribbean. So when you think about America being a melting pot, it is reasonable to believe many would not be familiar with this.

I agree that many white people have no clue about the effects of slavery on this country, but I'm going to push back and say that this ignorance is willful and unacceptable.

I can certainly see your point, but as the saying goes "You don't know what you don't know."

If you consider that 80% of so or Americans live in segregated neighborhoods, its easy to see why certain conversation don't happen. This level of information ie: lawn jockeys is not one that is presented within formal educational settings. If you ask younger African Americans about what the "lawn jockey" stands for is what it is about they would have no clue. They may know its bad, but do they know what it is about. This generational distance is a challenge, but couple that with the lack of opportunity afforded to our society within formal educational settings.

I firmly believe that this notion that everyone "should" know what these symbols mean is an idealistic way to look at the problems of lack of understanding between us all. I get aggravated by the lack of understanding of whites on issues like these, but that is just proof that this is so much work to be done.

I'm not suggesting YOU do it, but still it has to be done. I offered the initial comment for others to see that that there are some people who are ill informed, but are still good people. Cheri, you are kind of new to posting here, so you may not know that I am a Puerto Rican, who regularly seeks to draw connections instead of divisions between groups and I do it through education (my work and life's passion.) When we elect to engage the "issue" with notions of "willful ignorance" and such I believe we shut down the ability for full and truthful exchanges. I won't disagree with you about it being unacceptable at all, but not having respectful communication with people who may truthfully not know is also unacceptable.

We have to unravel generations of symbols, colloquial sayings, laws, traditions, ways of being and so on that are too complex to just swat away or be dismissive of as "willful ignorance."

You're right, you often don't know what you don't know. However, you DO often know when you are choosing not to learn more about a particular issue.

The "willful ignorance" that I speak of on the part of many whites is a choice that is made by default when they fail to interact with diverse groups of people.

I understand that people may live in segregated neighborhoods, but this is no excuse. The people (in many cases) still have to go to work, or shop, and typically have life activities that would extend beyond the boundaries of where they live.

I am in no way suggesting that education does not need to take place. And on the contrary, it NEEDS to take place. Am I suggesting that all white people who fail to understand the racial underpinnings of what seemed harmless to them?

The system, that which is in the air and above our heads, is something that most people (Black, white, and everyone else) are unaware of. So I get your allusion to power and privilege and the leisure of not having to know. However, there are many who want to have that conversation (the real one we speak of not the specific one per se of lawn jockeys) but are put off with moral or intellectual judgments. All I'm saying is the phrase "willful ignorance" has a certain connotation and in my opinion doesn't promote exchange.

A few ago I was working at a college with students, somewhat diverse racially, but not much. The class I was teaching at the time was "gender, power, difference." I used the phrase people of color alot. When it was time to write the first set of papers I got back MANY with the term "colored people this," "colored people." To the students in the class- Black and White is was a shorter way to say people of color. I was dumbfounded. I asked them in class why so many people elected to use this phrase instead of people of color and they felt it just made sense. Some Black students felt it was ok to use in the context of the paper because their families used the term and of course, it made sense to shorten the phrase. The socio-historical context for them was outside of their understanding. Although they were freshmen, they were college students. Fortunately, we were in a place of higher learning so we had a productive discussion and learning moment- for us all. I was in a position of power being the person who grades their papers so I got to decide what path we went down, if any at all.

The phrase willful ignorance presumes there were opportunities to learn that were dismissed. Again, I know there are people who are willfully ignorant, I would just prefer we use that phrase when we know it is true rather presuming that is always or mostly the case.

This opens the door to discussing color blind racism and has ensued as part of this notion of political correctness and how it has HURT us...

First, there was Sarah Palin questioning the Wasilla Library's holdings. Now a GOP state chair wants textbooks rewritten to omit Barack Obama. And the publisher, Houghton Mifflin, sees nothing wrong with that.

The Chicago Tribune briefly reported on the controversy in Thursday's editions:

Barack Obama's inclusion in an 8th-grade textbook has GOP officials seeing red in Wisconsin.

The state Republican Party chairman has accused the Racine school district of bolstering Obama's campaign by selecting a book that includes excerpts from the Democrat's 1995 autobiography "Dreams from My Father" and his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

"These are [impressionable] kids," said Wisconsin GOP Chairman Reince Priebus. "Using taxpayers' dollars to promote one candidate over the other is an abuse of power."

A little background may be in order here. There is a long-standing tradition of right-wing conservatives influencing what material will be or won't be included in America's textbooks. It goes back to the 1970s and earlier, when Texas and California conservatives positioned themselves on state textbook selection committees to wield their influence on textbook publishers. Because those two states buy so many books, approving only a few choices for use statewide, they could literally tell publishers what they could and couldn't say in schoolbooks used across the entire nation. Publishers bowed to the pressure because they felt they couldn't afford to lose the monolithic California and Texas business.


The difference here is that a party chair -- not a person elected or appointed to review and make textbook purchases, but a Republican with a strictly partisan agenda -- now wants to tell a publisher and a school district what to teach or not to teach -- in the middle of a heated national election, no less. And the publisher, long since conditioned to accept "correction," just says, "Sure, whatever you say!"

Whether you like it or not, Mr. Priebus, Barack Obama is a significant figure in American history. Like it or not, Mr. Priebus, the keynote address Obama delivered in 2004 was historic and merits study. Like it or not, Mr. Priebus, your job as Republican party chair for Wisconsin does not call for intimidation of school districts and book publishers.

As for Houghton Mifflin? Their knee-jerk cave-in is ridiculous.

The Obama excerpt appears in an optional chapter in a unit about diversity. In it, he writes about feeling out of place in his Hawaiian classroom because he didn't look like his classmates.

Publisher Houghton Mifflin Co. has said the excerpt was chosen in 2005, before Obama announced his White House bid. ...

Dangerous stuff in Reince Priebus' opinion. Wisconsin eighth graders mustn't be allowed to read about a teenager "feeling out of place," at least not if the teen was racially mixed and later rose to national prominence. What kind of signal does that send?

Isn't it more dangerous that a Republican Party chair, self-appointed as arbiter of educational correctness, has persuaded a weak-kneed publisher to censor what American students will read for years to come?

How do these guys intend to portray President Barack Obama in textbooks if the Democrat wins? Will they just decide again to leave him out?

PHOENIX – Democrats working to unseat U.S. Rep. John Shadegg wondered whether political dirty tricks were afoot: A business credit card belonging to the incumbent's re-election campaign was found on the floor of a Democratic field office in Tempe.
Arizona Democratic Party officials on Monday publicly demanded an explanation from Shadegg's campaign – and that it return anything taken from the office.

The explanation that finally emerged left Ryan Anderson, a Shadegg campaign volunteer, admitting that he felt foolish. I am going to agree with you on this one. My first reaction, when this case came to light was ... "no those white boys, didn't!"

However, as the facts started to come out, it didn't fit. It just didn't add up. To me, it has nothing to do with her profession, I work in the adult entertainment industry as well and I know society (at large) has a harsher judgement against women who do (Although our client list is full of the most self proclaimed puritanical hypocrites known to man). It also has nothing to do with the class issue or the fact that they are little bigots.

It does have to do with the facts.

Her profession was never the issue, to me ... if a woman is assaulted, it doesn't matter her background ... justice should be served. However, this individual does not seem on the up and up and her story is beyond flawed. The evidence was not there.

I'm inclined to believe that she was being vindictive because the spoiled brats wouldn't pay their bill.

I'm trying really hard to stay away from the 'profession" angle of all this (though, in full disclosure, I let something slip on my rant on it at my place). I don't doubt for one second that her story isn't plausible; that stuff like she suggested does not happen at all. That would be terribly naive.

That said, looking at the facts, it doesn't add up. Even if the the college kids were acting like, well, college kids, no one can find anything to say she was raped.

Now, was she disrespected? More than likely (I don't see how you can be in that type of environment and not be disrespected). Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your angle), disrespect isn't illegal.

That said, looking at the facts, it doesn't add up. Even if the the college kids were acting like, well, college kids, no one can find anything to say she was raped.



They were a bunch of disgusting spoiled ass bratty pigs that thought they were above the law. The team had been charged with 15 underage drinking violations. One of the accused was charged with assault in DC before the rape charges came about for taunting a man he thought was gay by coming within inches of this man's face and yelling....."say you're a fag"....."say you're a fag". I have no kind words for creeps like that.

I won't say how I really feel about these jerks out of respect for fellow posters. But i asure you....It ain't pretty!

Duke medical center had the girl's rape kit. I was in the hospital after it happened, and the nurses were talking about how they did the rape kit, and the girl was raped. There were more than 15 players at that party, and If they slipped her a psychotrophic drug, she wouldn't remember what the hell happened.

My personal theory is that they assaulted her, and they assualted her with a broomstick.

I can't be sure what happened, but something did happen.

How else can you explain those players suing evereybody but her?

I just don't get it. I don't understand how anyone loves affects my life. I can understand how someone hates having a large impact.

Why is someone's sexuality, sexual encounters ,as long as they are with willing consentual adults, be of any impact of my life.?

I just find it sickening that people have died, have lost the right to live some place or have been denied access to a LOVED one because it doesn't fit another persons idea of what is good love.

I'm passionate about causes that I believe in. Sometimes my passion causes me to become a little too emotional and I have to check myself.

I may not agree with the Duke Accuser's past lifestyle but I will defend her right not to be sexually assaulted or dehumanized for it because someone thinks she deserved it or had it coming. And I will speak out about her right OR anyone's right to be heard! Equal Justice for all ......is all I want.

Passion for a good cause, as long as it isn't destructive, is alright with me. A lot of great movements have started with just that. Well even some destruction is necessary.

I've got access to their statements to police and they are contradicting to each other. Someone went into the accuser's purse and stole her money. Where in America is it okay to lift someone's money and not get charged for theft????

D, I have followed this story for the past 2 years every single day. The case wasn't handled right from jump street. It took police 2 days to go to the house and collect evidence. I really don't give a rat's ass what harsh language you use. Those players got rewarded from Duke University and didn't deserve one damn dime. They invited those women into their home and degraded them, called them niggers and someone went into Crystal's purse and stole her money. But yet they are rewarded damages from Duke and now are trying to sue the city of Durham. To hell with those spoiled s.o.b.'s.! And there you have it!

There is no such thing as a "Declaration of Innocence" in the Judicial System. It's either guilty or not guilty at trial.

McCain volunteer’s story smells awfully weird Police to administer polygraph

Yesterday I saw this story in the news about the McCain volunteer who was allegedly attacked by a black man who carved a "B" on her cheek. Interestingly the "B" is carved backward... as if one was looking into a mirror when it was done.

A police official on the news just said that the woman was given a polygraph due to "inconsistencies" in her story. The official refused to give the results of the test.

Something about this story is just not right. Mark my words...

So I went over to Twitter and searched for messages by and about Ashley Todd (the McCain volunteer), and folks are already snapping off on her for what they believe to be her lies about this scenario:
