I have to say first that I always liked David Alan Grier but was kind of somewhat NOT interested in watching DL. I watch everything in the way of comedy. I find Carlos Mencia offensive because he thought since he got away with making "beaner" references that gives him a go ahead to talk smak about all races. David Alan Grier at least talks about recent topics as if he understands what they are about and makes fun of them in the same vein. Hughley seems to remind me of lounge lizzard comedians that try to find what makes the audience laugh by throwing out lines like, "What's up with...", this or that and doesn't leave you feeling that he knew anything about the topic except maybe the headline. When his audience laughter dies he doesn't go on to the next joke on that topic, but if a few people laugh he gets carried away with it and sometimes will beat one subject to death. Stand up is hard to do, stand up concerning one topic is even harder, and DL just isn't the guy who should be trying this. I watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report and love both of them, but they keep things tasteful and make fun of the actual news. They do what is recent and actually talk about the "whole topic" not just make jokes around it.

whiterosebuddy...you make some very good points...however, take a closer look at the people who pit blacks and white together...those who continue to try and divide us...its not the "blacks" and its not the "whites"...Who are we trained not to criticize? Who controls the media, (TV-movies-print) at large? Who controls the political system focusing on foreign and domestic policies with massive lobbies? They are the only group of people who separate themselves into their own little group and are not labeled raciest…in fact they are given a blank check to do whatever they want…those are our biggest foe

agree with a good chunk of the vibe. whenever we try to make some reasoned point, we can still point to "us" as our own worst enemy in certain quarters. I mean, what can we argue for opportunity-wise when we are beset by coonin' ...I mean, House of Payne trumps all protest in principle if this is what we want to do with opportunity.

No more payne-coons falling on tall industry trees. No more I wanna be Stewart or Mahr.

How about daring to do a show to be funny and honest with the craft - leaving art to do the damage that it truly can inflict on a soul.

MIke, it is not our race for Pete's sake. Rather, it is your race who is willing to give a platform to such ignorance. You see, there are lots of rednecks and white crazies out there who could be put on national TV to embarass humiliate and shame the white race as well. But, the white power structure declines for engaging in such debasement of themselves.

However, when it comes to perpetuating the stereotypes of black buffonery, ignorance and disgrace behavior? Well, for sooooommmmme odd reason the network producers and execs just think it is COMEDY.

Black folks underSTAND that it is racism. We also know that it is the type of racist comedy that is soooo profitable and guaranteed ratings that not only white execs approve it and put it on, but black execs like BET and black entertainers who want jobs KNOW they can also make money making an ass of black folks and displaying them as stupid, trifing ignorant and lazy.

It is far more difficult for blacks who porttray positive images of our race to find a job. Like for instance, why didn't CNN give Roland Martin that spot instead of DLHughley with his uneducated self? Could it be because Martin was unwilling to be a sycophant? Could if be that Martin was unwilling to engage in that racist buffonery that Hughley was? I suspect strongly yes.

So, again I say to you...it is not our race..rather it is yours that continues to make such racist shows PROFITABLE.

It is YOUR KIND that is sick. It is YOUR KIND that laughs at minstrel type humor. It is YOUR KIND that loves RACIST humor.

So, how about you go and post your questions on a WHITE blog, with lots of rednecks, or their twins...GOP rightwing conservatives...like Hannity, Limbaugh and O'Reilly?

Then you would be providing a real service to YOUR RACE.

I think DL should restructure the show. I just don't like the Pimp like character. Take it out. We don't need demeaning black images on TV. I think we need the comedy. I also don't like calling the name of Jesus in a disrespectful way. Please leave Jesus out of it. Minimise the cussing.
Be funny but respectful to Barack. Keep the jokes coming.

let me say first of all that i am not black, but for Godsake what is up with your race? I mean everytime there are strides made, your own people bring you down. Reverand Wright showboating at a press conference comes to mind and could have cost Obama the election had the liberal media ran with it and really looked at him. Now you have DL Hughley literally doing an Amos and Andy on Saturday nights on CNN. If your not aware, white people didnt vote for Obama because he they think he is a Saviour , we voted for him because we wanted change and he was the best option. He has a lot to live up to and we need to be behind him, but shows like this play right into racists hands and are already saying this is now our next four years. Stupidity and if you dont realized that this humour is childish and stupid I suggest you pick up Bill Cosbys album Why is there Air and see what Im talking about. also tell me how many times Bill cosby talks about being black. he doesnt, he is just funny..

Did anybody notice that Hughley's show started on CNN right after it became obvious that Obama was going to win the election? I think number one CNN has gotten very conservative in the last year (Lou Dobbs, Campbell Brown, Anderson Cooper, etc.) and two, it seems to me that they brought on Hughley to make fun of Obama since the white reporters couldn't do it without looking racist, but Hughley could. I used to watch CNN a lot and I can barely stand to watch it any more, and I found Hughley to be very offensive in the first show, with his overthetop mocking of AA people around Obama, and I haven't watched any more of him.

I don't know how you can condone and defend this program when it sets African-Americans back by stereotypes and lame ethnic observations. Why won't stations like CNN focus on the millions of well-education, hardworking African-Americans who don't happen to be athletes or entertainers. We've come too far to be represented by this mindless dreck.

I have been an avid viewer of CNN for years and I am completely embarrassed by this D L Hughely show. Not only does it deviate from the serious news format of CNN, but it also degrades black people on an international level. The international community depends on CNN for serious news, and this minstral act is perpetuating the stereotype of black people, it is counterproductive and degrading and does a great disservice to black people world wide. They are some very serious and intelligent news contributors and reporters e.g. Don Lemon, T.J , Simmons, why would CNN not offer them a show, they are way more informed than D.L and would offer substance and intellegence. As it stands all of the work that obama is doing to lift up the image of black people world wide, D.L is unceremoniously tearing it down. I am deeply disappointed in CNN and Mr. Sell Out.

This show is a disgrace and demeaning to African-Americans. Barack Obama promised to be a president to all people, and race was not to be an issue . He speaks of uniting all people, that this is a country of all people--the United States of America. D.L. Hughley is doing his best to contribute to negative stereotypes of African-Americans. CNN is a news channel, not a comedy channel, if what he does can be called "comedy." The man should be taken off the air NOW. He contributes nothing, and is an insult to all people, especially African-Americans. Take him off the air--I implore you. My friends and I refuse to watch CNN at all until that man is removed from the air. By the way, just in case it makes a difference, I am a white woman.

I wrote to CNN two weeks ago indicating how offensive this D L Hughley program is to African-Americans--perhaps to most intelligent people. What in the world was behind the decision of CNN to place this negative stereotype program on the air. He is not funny and, what is more, a complete disgrace.

I have been a devoted view of CNN for many years. However, I have made a decision to tune into CSNBC until this program is taken off the air. I WILL NOT VIEW ANYTHING ON CNN until this program is removed. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? The "stepping-fetchit" days are over.

I think people should give DL some credit. He was able to break through to new ground. He is capturing an audience that would probably never watch CNN or much news. He is educating those people about real news in a roundabout way. There are creditable and known guest on his show that knows what they are talking about as far as world news is concerned.
Keep up the good work DL. I'll watch you.

Anyone who thinks this is funny and appropriate must have no clue about the power of imagery and the powerful role of CNN. Having grown if Africa I watched CNN from early age and trust me this has a direct impact on all of is. CNN must be very much aware on the efforts that the civil rights have put across to ensure this type of degradation to people of color is not supported by such a prominent media source. DL should use this unique chance to advance our efforts as black people but not to spit on martin luther king face and other civil rights leaders. DL this is just down low. God help us.
