There is no way a White person can even begin to understand what the election of Barack Obama means to Black people.

A white woman friend told me that she didn't understand how blacks can't feel validated without Barack being in the race for president. It's like, for her we shouldn't need anyone else to affirm or validate us. I told her to go and read “Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison.

rikyrah: When my mom [92 1/2 years living] tells me stories of when there were NO AIRPLANES. I couldn't imagine her joy when she first took an airplane trip – to Hawaii, no less. :>)
