I support Sen Obama all of the way, but Sen McCain was never this person that he has become. He was always much more independent and fairer.
Side note: I do believe that Sen McCain has always been a prick and that he is pissy that the Junior Senator is his challenger.

Y'all know Alma (his wife) was on his ass about endorsing Obama.

She grew up in "Bombingham" Alabama and hasn't forgotten a THING.

Colin probably wouldn't have been able to come home Sunday if he hadn't endorsed Obama, because Alma wasn't having it. She probably told him "I've been silent for many years, Colin, while you took shyt off of Bush and everybody. I will not be silent any longer."

And knowing how much Powell loves him some Alma, she probably didn't have to say any more than that, either. LOL

He probably considered what Powell said, and decided he'd put that brotha on blast and continue his odyssey into SELF-HATRED, declaring that the white people are right in their hatred of Black people, and probably trying to figure out how to catch up with James T. Harris as assistant Slave Catcher.

Colin Powell has a POINT. And a wingnut like Michele Bachmann is losing her congressional seat because people are tired of wingnut shyt.

Bachmann also proves Powell's case for his allegations and literally helped to write his rationale for endorsing Obama in a reasoned, articulate and nuanced way while providing well placed bitch slaps upside the heads of Bachmann and Palin.

He basically also told the GOP to stop their outreach efforts to recruit more minorities into the party because no one's going where they're going to be treated like runaway slaves, and he's refusing to be used as the slave catcher to get us in.

The best opportunity they had to get Black people in the party was back in 2000, when Powell speculated about a run for the White House. Too bad they were too racist to even capitalize on THAT. Every time the GOP has an opportunity to take out the Democratic Party on representation, if their opportunity hinges on a person of color, they usually take a pass - their bigotry is THAT INGRAINED into the fabric of their beings.

Sarah Palin is a perfect example of that. She managed to set back women's accomplishments 50 years - even the GOP women are pissed they have to go back to the back of the bus and START OVER.

Of course, Powell claims that he’s not happy with the “rightward shift” of the Republican party. But is there any merit in his accusation???

Colin Powell read the Republicans their rights a few conventions ago, long before there was a Barack Obama on the national radar. He is a conservative and a good soldier. That's why he did what he did at the UN. He was given faulty intelligence. I respect him and I always have. I'm not surprised by his endorsement. It was fair and well reasoned. But unlike many have said, I don't think he's doing this because Obama is black and he is black. I think he's doing it because he doesn't think McCain should be in the top job. He has seen first hand how the extremist Conservatives have pulled his party into full-blown craziness. This convention has shown him that they've already pulled a formerly more independent minded McCain into full-blown crazy. And given what he has personally given to this country, I believe Colin Powell believes that we cannot endure another four more years of the extremist Conservatives yanking on the nation's highest office. I suspect that if John McCain actually represented the reasonable Republicans, Powell wouldn't have endorsed Obama. But like a growing number of Conservatives, Powell is put off by Palin and the exclusionary/racist campaign rhetoric that McCain has chosen to go with. I respect Gen. Powell even more now than ever, because he is catching hell for this from the wackjobs of his party, and I think what we're seeing is a real soldier's valor.
