You know, long ago, Charles would have been called a boy.

'Guy' is generally young-speak for 'man.' I still use this term for men, though I am in my fifties.

In effect, I am not upset over this. Perhaps he allowed them to use his first name like everyone else in the campaign office.

My nephew (born 1985), hasn't felt this involved in current events and politics. He is registered. He is in California and is looking forward to seeing Obama on the news and the Web, and especially, to voting next week.

When I Early Voted last Wednesday, I went in the booth, and silently called on my dad, my grandparents on both sides of the family, my ancestors, said I was doing it for all of them who couldn't be here for this moment, and marked my ballot for Barack Obama.

I felt soooo good.

I know some people are doing something of the same thing.

How moving was that? That was wonderful video.

As a white person, I in awe of Obama and the dignified way he has run his campaign. The world is watching and Obama's presidency will bring back the respect and honor that Bush has destroyed.

I can't wait to vote next Tuesday for Obama & Biden. What an honor.

Yes. I can imagine, Nate. It brought back memories that I hold so dear to my heart too. I have so much joy and happiness in seeing history taking place but sadness also because my Mom & Dad are not here to see this. They would have loved it so much.

I truly believe that Barack Obama is a man who will unify people. I'm not talking about some kum-bay-yah, 'We are the world' type naivety–I think he really has what it takes to bring HEALTHY discourse back to politics and yet bring citizens back to a cooperative community that wants to do for country like JFK described.

I just don't see real unity happening with a McCain presidency, and that's leaving out whatever disappointment would be felt by African-Americans.

That was truly moving to see. My eyes moistened a bit at Charles' emotion, making me think of the grandfather my family and I helped funeralize this past Saturday. I also thought of the countless other people I've known who aren't here to see the history we will make on November 4th.

I have always voted in elections but I have never been involved like this...ever. It has a grip on me and I cannot let go nor get enough. Neither have I ever given my money to a political campaign until now and I can't stop myself. It's like a magnet drawing me to click that donation button at Barack Obama.com.

I was listening to Spike Lee this morning on Morning Joe and he was saying there has been a Cosmic Shift in the country and there is a new generation of voters out there and they don't have the racial hangups (my words) like the older generation. It's a new day! Thank God, I am a witness to it!

I saw this on Fumbling Toward Divinity (another great Black Pol website) earlier this am, and the dam broke when Charles choked up. At 48 I can not EVER remember feeling like this for politics. Every day we should all stop and thank whatever God we hold dear for the Obamas.

What a wonderful video. I was telling my mother about this. We got to talking about my grandmother. She is 99 years old. Losing her sight but is determined to vote on the 4th of November. She said the first time she got to vote was in 1948 in SC. My mom and her sisters are trying to make her vote using absentee ballot but she said she want to walk to the poll and cast her vote for Obama. She talks about how long she waited for a day like this.

Mr. Alexander is 9 months younger than my father, who died 9/2001.

My father was a white, middle class California -- mostly voting Republican, but he died before the big Republican shift hard right. I so wonder what my father would have thought and done in this election. I believe that he would have supported McCain 2000, and perceived the difference between McCain 2000 & McCain 2008 -- and voted accordingly.

Of course this is all wishful thinking.

As a white person, I can only imagine what Obama's campaign means to African-Americans, especially those of my parents' generation (born in 1920-1930)

My daughter, aged 19, is voting for the first time in this election (absentee ballot, because she's out of state for college).

I started crying when Charles started to cry. I bet he misses his wife and wishes she were there with him to witness all of this (we talked about bearing witness last night).

I am glad the young people there are taking care of Charles and giving him a reason to feel hopeful. God bless Charles.
