Hi — I'm not sure I completely agree with this thread or the general anti-”bailout” tenor of the site these days. I realize there are big downsides to the legislation but I'm concerned about the larger picture. Not to put too fine a point on it, but I don't want our first black president taking office during a depression! (I'm white — do I need to include that disclaimer?) This legislation is not perfect but we do need a shot in the arm to the economy or we are in big trouble and soon. I don't see an alternative coming out of the opposition that will work. These are super complex issues (to me at least), so the iron law of unintended consequences will certainly come into play, but one can always REVISE legislation later if it's not working/being abused/whatever. To me that makes it different than the war. Sen. Obama is for this legislation and there's a reason for that. I wish Pelosi would have held the vote while he had time to rally some folks he could have pulled over to the “yes” side — then the market would be really hot and he could legitimately say he basically saved at least part of the economy — it would have been another big boost for the campaign. (Not that he needs it right now! YIPPEE on the new poll numbers from OH/PA/FL!!!)

I am very proud that Barbara Lee is my Congresswoman and proud to have voted for her in every election she's entered. After her courageous, lone No vote, thousands of bumper stickers reading “Barbara Lee Speaks For Me” began circulating. Mine still hangs on my office wall. When she returned to her district following the vote, an enthusiastic crowd of 10,000 have her her richly deserved heroine's welcome.

Especially since Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick didn't bother to get the job done.

She was too busy mailing in her performance as CBC Chair and trying to keep her former Mayoral offspring out of jail for obstructing justice in Detroit.

I, too, am a big fan. I just finished re-reading Dyson's “Why I Love Black Women” and he wrote a pretty awesome chapter about the longtime Rep. A lot of his flattery was fluff, but it's worth popping in BN and reading her highlight.

Barbara Lee is my rep as well, and I truly admire her for stepping out of th ebox and not following the leader when it comes to making decisions that will affect people like me. She definitely doesnt play around, or do things that will cause folks in politics to like her…and thats what I want from my rep.

Agree with Barbara lee 1000% THANKS, BUT NO THANKS, NO WAY, NO HOW, NO BAILOUT!!! I've been calling Senators Amy Klobachar and Norm Coleman's offices every day since last Monday. They have live bodies in their offices to take constituency opinions And I'm gonna keep on calling them and voice my outrage at the bailout.

Does BHO support the moratorium on forclosures?

They are saying left-wing Democrats and right-wing Republicans are what stopped the bill. That should tell you something…I'm not sure what, but apparently that's the real bipartisan coalition…

Nice to know there are a few like Barbara Lee in Washington, too bad she's not my state rep.

Keep your eyes open. They are trying to chnage the EXISTING value rules on FAIR VALUE. That is letting the foxes in the hen house again.

I've always admired Barbara Lee. She's the complete opposite of my Rep, a DINO who not only voted to invide Iraq, but to this day sticks by his decision.

I'm an Oakland resident, and can only affirm the integrity and wisdom of Barbara Lee. The bay area and especially Oakland suffers from politcal gamesmanship; even those who may not agree with her would acknowledge that Ms.Lee doesn't play games and has consistently shown integrity and great courage.
