I realize there are big downsides to the legislation but I'm concerned about the larger picture. This legislation is not perfect but we do need a shot in the arm to the economy or we are in big trouble and soon. I don't see an alternative coming out of the opposition that will work. These are super complex issues (to me at least), so the iron law of unintended consequences will certainly come into play, but one can always REVISE legislation later if it's not working/being abused/whatever. To me that makes it different than the war. Sen. Obama is for this legislation and there's a reason for that. I wish Pelosi would have held the vote while he had time to rally some folks he could have pulled over to the "yes" side -- then the market would be really hot and he could legitimately say he basically saved at least part of the economy -- it would have been another big boost for the campaign.
