I don't know how a progressive Christian Liberal and support this philosophy of "white privilege. That this concept has its roots in racism is quite obvious as one poster noted that being privileged + white= racist. This kind of racial/ethnic thinking is as old as human society itself and culminated in the ovens of Germany during the past century. Those who support the white studies/privilge movement are no better than the former Southern slave masters who claimed that their slaves were not totally human.

ScatteredSpirit: Hey! :>) They can go through their entire lives . . . therefore, no racism in their world!

ABSOLUTELY! So they are convinced that they are not racists and get angry when it is said that whites are privileged and are racists! Then the anger can allow them to doubt that we experience racism. We're just whining, etc.

Your point is well taken. :>)

Obama-Biden '08!

Please.

First of all, votes don't determine the primary nominee, delegates do but we've moved from the primary to the GE which is a totally different campaign season; it's like going from the playoffs to the championship. Second, he can still lose the popular vote yet win the presidency (Gore won the pop vote in 2000) since the president is chosen by the Electoral College, and Obama only needs 270 of the 538 electoral votes to win the election. Third, I've never bought the lie that Tweety and the rest of those racist white boys propragate in the media about 'white' blue collar workers not voting for Obama; there was a similar lie bandied about in 1992 when Billy Jeff ran for president and the economy was tanking though not as badly as it is now.

Obama doesn't have to win every state you listed, only a certain number of is needed to give him 270. Poblano over on 538.com gives the 2008 scenario for Obama to win, and the traditional battleground states don't necessarily come into play.

I don't know what you mean by 'presidential electorate' as I've never heard of such, but of the approximate 300 million Americans (that being the total US population), a little more than 121 million voted in the 2004 presidential elections. Obama is registering record numbers of people in this election cycle, so there's no way for us to estimate how many votes he'll get just from young voting age whites alone, and they are driving this campaign more than anyone else. As for HRC's so-called 18 million votes, let's just be conservative and say that he's gotten 65% of those. Then there are the Obamacans, and the rednecks for Obama.

I believe that Biden and perhaps the Clintons may deliver some of those white votes you're discounting, and then there's the Latino vote that, even in Florida, has made a significant turn away from the repugs.

Just today, Axelrod announced that last month they got 500,000 new donors to the Obama campaign, so I ain't concerned about white people; it's the negativity of black folks and the effect that it will have on discouraging other blacks not to go to the polls, because the black meme seems to be circulating that white folks ain't going to vote for the black man, although they are all we see at the campaign stops he and Biden have been making. Yesterday in Manchester NH alone there were 7,000 people at the rally.

From what I''m seeing on the predominantly white progressive blogs, it's mostly white folks who are out there pounding the pavement in Ohio and Florida and Pennsylvania and New Hampshire and Montana (which has a very popular democratic governor, Schweitzer).

Obama's going to do fine despite the bad-mouthing from black folks about white folks.

Unfortunately not enough to win a presidency. The 18 Million he got during the Primaries wont make a dent in the presidential electorate (300 Million Americans). What people say out loud isn't how they vote just look at 2000 and 2004.

I am hopeful I just know what I see and hear when I go to Places like NC, FL, TX, WV, IN, MT, MO, MS.

Just remember the code words of Hillary "Working class whites" it is not a myth. They aren't talking about the white people that live in Los Angeles and Chicago or New York City. it's ones that live in Lynchburg, Charleston and Macon.

A whole bunch of white people had to have voted for Obama for him to have gotten into the Illinois legislature, the US Senate, and become the Democratic nominee. There's no way on God's green earth that Obama would have gotten this far had he not gotten many white votes and financial support.

Do the math: Even if every black person in America, from womb to tomb was registered to vote, could vote, and would vote for Obama (because not all blacks are voting Obama), we wouldn't have the numbers to elect him or anyone else, not even a white presidential candidate. Never have, never will.

So while it is true that there are racist whites who didn't and won't vote for Obama, there are millions of whites who have and will vote for him.
