any window into the lobbying going on on that side? a big chance that sustainability or systemic people relief can still lose out to bonuses. This in Monday's Financial Times, front page:

"Some Republicans also favor restrictions on executive pay for banks taking part in the bailout. The Treasury fears this could undermine banks' willingness to take part."

dude. wow. that's major - to have one hand out and the other hand slappin the giver in the face. the fight is on over the next few days.

so true. thanks for pointing this out. everybody needs to be screaming that this is not our money. it our kids' money. the debt burden is massive. if we're going to ask the chinese for a $700B loan, we better damn sure make it goes toward something useful and sustainable.

Jill: -IMHO, that would be $700B + ALL the $$ we "LOST" on this war: Estimate: $10M per month X 12 months X 5.5 years = $660M

But all this calculating is "way above my pay grade!" :>)

Obama-Biden '08!

It's a chigga-chunk of money, for sure. Thx for the 4-year context. I'm trying to imagine another difficult thing they're all aruging about right now: how to actually allocate it in this bad game of pin the tail on the assets: http://tinyurl.com/3qjqt2 The answers will be as interesting as the drama we're seeing now.

We don't have $700B to be playing around with. Its nice and dandy that the government wants to fix their boo boo with "tax payer dollars" but we are going to BORROW the money.

For all they know, China can come at us and demand the first born of every tax paying family as debt repayment. (a bit dramatic, I know)
