I believe she'll make her speech tonight, but it will just be a shout-out to abortion, religion, gays and all the other conservative wedge issues. She'll be off the ticket by Friday.

I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping that tomorrow we hear she has dropped out of the race. Maybe she'll drop out during her speech tonight, but I don't have the stomach to watch.

Let's see how this plays out… there's a bit of an unholy alliance between far-right Christians and pro-Israel Jews based on the Christians' millenialist views (that the rapture has to begin in Israel). Palin's churches have generally been of this camp. As a matter of religious belief, of course, these views require the eventual destruction (or conversion) of Jews, but as a practical matter, it makes them one of the strongest pro-Israel voices in the United States today. Which is NOT to equate all Jews or Jewish voters with pro-Israel policy, but the history is there.

Palin might get over on some of the pundits, put I don't she's going to be let off the hook completely. I had CBS Evening News on last night and they raked Palin over the coals pretty good. It was a long segment too, about 5 minutes or so.

Watching the talking heads tonight, especially on MSNBC who seem especially guarded because of fears of being labeled sexist again, I'm convinced they are not going to pursue any of this woman's skeletons. She'll get a uniform pass on everything.

Also, I took the opportunity to watch a video of the 2006 AK governor's debate, and I must concur with Michelle Martin who said Friday on Bill Maher's show Democrats underestimate her at our own peril. She's quite dangerous, both in her extreme views but also in the impact she could have b/c women, white women, could completely ignore her nutty views and be captivated by her poise and SEEMING (underscore) command of the issues.

On another note, did you see how those mother fuckers didn't clap when Dr. King appeared on the screen. This so-called convention looked like damn Klan rally.
