Val, I like your idea of suing, but it is a heavy decision to evaluate. I will not be hired again if I sue, that's the way it works. Because of the company I work for they will settle but unless I can get an equivalent amount to what i would earn in the next 35 years of working including interest, options, rate increases which take into account logical promotions I don't think its a good idea.

As far as finding a new job, considering this has been brought up in the only two companies I have worked for I'm not convinced it won't be different elsewhere. I'm starting to think (from looking around) that once you get into upper management the rules change. I now appreciate Michelle Obama even more. I use to think her job was no big deal, she was good and she deserved it. But now I'm learning It's really not that easy.

IMHO – That WAS the case!! We didn't like sarcasm, anger, evil, vicious, vitriol, etc. in billary. ANNNNDDD we DON'T like it in the GOV.

They are pro – minorities, they invest in their employees and the community, we have groups for black professionals, hispanics, gay and lesbians, everything. They include mentoring programs and you can add to your current skillset as much as you want. There are challenging positions, client facing positions, some of our Partners work remotely (from home) some have limited travel, and some work in the offices. I have worked from home for over 8 years and got promoted at least 6 times, receive substantial bonuses at times twice a year and there is always opportunities to get some additional incentives depending on your role.

I also think you need to let some time pass so you can get over the initial shock of this incident. When you have a little more distance, you will be better able to assess if you have a future at this company or not, and if you are ok with having a future or not.

From what you wrote, I can tell you don't live in the south. There are a lot of stereo types about the south that simply aren't true. Blacks and whites have a weird but familiar relationship in the south. White poeple in the south are very use to seeing and being around Black people. The south also produces the lions share of Black politicians in the country, and it is way more integrated than many northern areas. I think Chicago is the most segregated city in the country. I'm saying all this to say that their argument is unsubstantialed. Maybe this is a test to see how much you want this promotion. Are you going to going to take no for an answer and fold or are you going to let them know that you believe you are the right person for the job and when can you get started? You can tell them that you forgive them for grossly underestimating your ability, intellect and excellence and inspite of it, you're willing to accept the position, perhaps on a trial basis. Let us know when you've changed their minds.
