Apparently the Obama campaign is on it -- Counsel for Change/Voter Protection Program. They need lawyers and law students. I am neither but brazenly signed up anyway in case they need volunteer-type monitors at the polls like what some of us did in 2004 with other groups.

But PLEASE please, if you're a lawyer/law student consider signing up, and if you know anyone with legal expertise, please let them know about this.

John McCain has demonstrated with this insane decision that he is unfit to be president of the United States.

This was an act of near-criminal negligence. If he can behave this recklessly and impulsively with this decision, the idea of allowing him to become president of the United States is only a smidgen less terrifying than thinking of Palin in that position.

Whatever few doubts I may once have still had about this election, they are resolved now.

Obama has to win. The alternative is unthinkable.

After the past few days when I saw how quickly and efficiently the McCain twisted facts, pulled pages from the internet and re-wrote their own talking points that were not factual, looked the American people in the eyes and LIED LIED LIED, attempted to intimidate the press, refused to have Palin address any of the issues that concern the American people, had all their goons repeating the same talking points . . .

We have NO choice. WE HAVE TO WIN.

Agree. Biden did not travel with Obama everywhere and was probably there for all internal briefings, most notably the deliberations over who woud be the VP.

But he was ready to come out swinging - ON DAY ONE, and ready to deal with all of his demons, too, e.g. the plagiarism. Why was he ready? Because you can't fake this stuff with respect to either honestly held beliefs or qualifications.

On two major pivots of this whole deal, call them ANWR and Anbar, there are fundamental gaps between McCain and Palin.

ANWR: She says drill ANWR, "drill baby drill," while McCain in Jan 2008 says: John McCain, January 2008: "As far as ANWR is concerned, I don’t want to drill in the Grand Canyon, and I don’t want to drill in the Everglades. This is one of the most pristine and beautiful parts of the world." As he, the ostensible leader?, shifts position, she says, "What he’s doing here is he’s calling an audible when conditions on the field are changing. And that’s what you do if you want to win the game here."

ANBAR: The Al-Anbar Governorate of Iraq was just signed over to Iraqi rule on Sept. 1. But there's a whole lot of stuff brewing that would say that you have not achieved sustainable "victory?" with the troop surge, McCain is leaning on so hard. Palin on Anbar... "Yes, all of my motorbikes have anbars." Ok, maybe that would be her response if she were not sequestered from a free press. ???

You just can't fake this. Beyond party lines, it should be stirring everybody that a major office could be pimped like this. Back to party: Some honest republican somewhere must be shaking a head.

Since she was thrust onto the national stage a week ago, her appearances on it have been tightly regulated by the McCain campaign: a few side-by-side campaign stops with him and, of course, her big speech to the GOP's convention Wednesday night.

Today, top McCain aide Rick Davis indicated the campaign isn't in any hurry to slot Palin for a Sunday show appearance -- and will do so only if he and other strategists determine it serves the ticket's purposes, not because some may view it as a required initiation for a major political player.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" show, Davis said, "I'd never commit to anything in the future. ... Our strategy is in our hands, not the media's. We're going to do what's in our best interests to try to win the election. If we think going on TV news shows are [sic] in our best interests, we'll do it. If we don't, we won't."

Palin still will be busy this weekend. She'll campaign Saturday with McCain in three key states -- Indiana, Colorado and New Mexico -- and she'll deliver his campaign's weekly radio address. That's one of those trappings of the presidency McCain has borrowed (notwithstanding the barbs his forces like to sling at Obama along these lines).

Ride or Die Biden has come out swinging and is doing very well, yet people here on JJP and other sites are so worried that it borders on defeatism.

The fact is that the Obama/Biden campaign is well aware of what will ultimately win the election - electoral votes - and they are on it, as Al Giordano of The Field so aptly blogs today.

WILMINGTON, Delaware (CNN) — Joe Biden may be a vice presidential nominee during the week, but on Saturdays he's still trying to keep his old schedule.

After a week of criss-crossing the country, Biden returned home to Wilmington Friday evening in time to teach his law school class the next morning. Since 1991, the senator has taught "Current Topics in Constitutional Law" to a small seminar of students at Widener School of Law in Wilmington.

This is the only class the Democratic running mate has been able to helm so far this year. The first class was scheduled for the day after Barack Obama tapped Biden for his vp pick.

A spokesman for the university says he expects this to be Biden's last time teaching this semester.
The popular course is capped at 18 students, and there is a waiting list to register.

Biden is just another Democratic hypocrite, and should try to practice what he preaches/teaches - Biden has deep ties to Rezko accomplice.

guess what i just did? i just donated $100 that i don't really have to the obama campaign on behalf of my friend. just two days ago i contributed another $100 that i don't have (put it on my credit card) to the obama campaign in response to that woman's (i won't even put her name in my mouth) hate-filled tirade against obama. i'm not saying this to get a pat on the back, i'm saying that if you have friends who can't donate, try to do it for them. this election is too important not to do all we can to at least give ourselves a CHANCE at a better situation in this country.

I hear you. I shelled out some money as a response to the RNC. Though I do think about giving some to people who will go for the jugular and maybe even negative. Obama has to keep it clean and aboveboard. But I wonder about some progressive minded PAC and 527 that it might make sense to support if they will tell the truth about McCain. Hey Guys: Hope all is having a great weekend so far. It's going to rain in NYC later and I am not happy about it...not one bit. Just gotta deal, I guess.

Anyway, enough with the trite stuff. Let me get to business. I have listened to almost all, if not all, of Obama's speeches and town hall presentations. I have read his policies on line. At this point, I could be a more effective surrogate than some who are being deployed by the Obama campaign. Yeah, I swear. Furthermore, I spend the time to know what our opponent is doing, so that when I am advocating for my presidential choice, I can stand on firm ground. So, it is also safe to conclude that I know what they have said and done(hey howard wolfson, this is how you win a campaign - know the other guy!).

Now why do I tell you all of this?

The answer: McBush!

Am I going stark, raving mad or are the speeches from the McBush campaign taking material from Obama's...Obama's themes, Obama's policy positions etc...Some will say that these are just words and nobody owns them; some will say that any campaign has the right to re-tool however and whenever the need arises, but the wholesale use of Obama's material seems very brazen and in your face , so much so that if I see the word CHANGE on their placards today, I would not be shocked. And, apparently no one will expose this. In fact, the media appears to be complicit in this clever deceit. They've started with the "both these guys are change agents...promising hope and change"...etc".

The latest is Jeffrey Bell, in the Weekly Standard, who makes the media's attempt to find out just exactly who Palin is part of a seamless, anti-clerical cloak that goes all...the...way...back...to...the French Revolution:


The most important thing to know about the left today is that it is centered on social issues. At root, it always has been, ever since the movement took form and received its name in the revolutionary Paris of the 1790s. In order to drive toward a vision of true human liberation, all the institutions and moral codes we associate with civilization had to be torn down. The institutions targeted in revolutionary France included the monarchy and the nobility, but even higher on the enemies list of the Jacobins and their allies were organized religion and the family, institutions in which the moral values of traditional society could be preserved and passed on outside the control of the leftist vanguard.
Wow. What hogwash. The deviation from the actual truth of the matter--pretty close to 100%, I'd say--is astonishing. If the Democratic Convention is any gauge, liberals aren't very much interested in social issues at all--but they are obsessed by the frightening economic conditionss we're facing right now. Maybe I'm getting old, maybe it's that I've seen this act so often before, maybe it's that the people I talk to when I go out on the road really are having a harder time paying for things like health care, gasoline and college tuition, but I'm finding the Republican attempts to derail the conversation from the actual state of the country really depressing and disgraceful this year. They practice Orwellian politics of the crudest sort. They are trying to sell a big lie--that the election is about the social issues of the 1960s, or Barack Obama's patriotism or his eloquence, or the "angry left," when it's really about turning toward a more moderate path after the ideological radicalism and malfeasance of the past eight years.

To be sure, Palin does have a very good camera presence, but she had absolutely nothing to do with writing her speech. These were not her thoughts, her ideas, nor rhetoric. I just watched it again. I wanted to get all the one liners. Kerry was a great surrogate for the Obama campaign. She was fiesty but still had a smile on her face and held her ground against that idiot. Actually my best moment came from Dan Savage talking about how out gay men didn't have to travel to MN to go to bathrooms to get bjs - they could just go home!

Kerry was BRILLIANT on Bill Maher's show! She would make a great surrogate for the Obama/Biden campaign.

I forgot to add--Michelle looks lovely, of course! I've never heard of this magazine, so I'll have to go check it out.

Michelle is a real woman, an educated, successful woman who has worked hard to keep fire in her marriage and balance in her children's lives. She is a remarkable role model in so many ways. Strong, smart, successful, confident, loving---she would be such a fabulous First Lady. When I compare her to Cindy McCain.....well, there is truly no comparison. I cannot relate to the McCains; they seem so stiff, so old, so yesterday and so out of touch. It's not about race; I'm white. They just do not represent the America I want to live in and raise my children in. That Obamas represent that America to me.

But after McCain finished his speech accepting the GOP's presidential nomination tonight, Palin joined him on stage, and the song was used again: Heart's "Barracuda" played as balloons fell. With that elephant in the room, Heart's Nancy Wilson felt compelled to personally respond. "I think it's completely unfair to be so misrepresented," she said in a phone call to EW.com after the speech. "I feel completely f---ed over." She and sister Ann Wilson then e-mailed the following exclusive statement:

"Sarah Palin's views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song 'Barracuda' no longer be used to promote her image. The song 'Barracuda' was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The 'barracuda' represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there's irony in Republican strategists' choice to make use of it there."

Seems as if "McAncient's campaign staff were TOLD TWICE NOT to use their music!!

They were told but they paid AFSCAP(sp) for the rights to use the song. One of the original writers said he thinks its great the snog is getting airplay, but themoney will be donated to the Obama campaign.

The right is calling Oprah 'biased' because she will not be having Palin on her show while she had Obama. Uh, a couple of questions here.

In July, when legislators started talking about conducting an investigation, Palin denied any wrongdoing and said she welcomed an investigation.

"Hold me accountable," she said.

The Legislature took her up on that offer. But this week, she basically told the Legislature, "Never mind."

Palin's lawyer has asked the Legislature to drop its investigation. He had the governor file an ethics complaint against herself, in a bid to turn the entire matter over to the state Personnel Board, which would hire an independent investigator.

This is not an open and transparent attempt to establish Gov. Palin's accountability. It is an attempt to drag out the investigation until after voters decide the fate of her vice-presidential bid.

When this investigation into Troopergate started, Gov. Palin's response was refreshingly open. Since she became the Republican candidate for vice president, her approach has changed for the worse. America deserves the same openness and ethics from vice-presidential candidate Palin that she promised to Alaska voters in 2006.

Alaska legislators are preparing to issue subpoenas as part of an investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin’s handling of the “Troopergate” affair, but Palin herself won’t be hit with one.

State Sen. Hollis French, the Anchorage Democrat who is managing the probe into Palin’s firing of her former public safety commissioner, said legislators decided not to subpoena Palin as a gesture to calm what has become a tense standoff between the Legislature and the newly minted Republican vice presidential nominee.

“We’re trying to de-escalate the situation. We just want the truth, clear the air,” French said.

However, legislators still want their investigator to interview Palin.

Hollis French, who was just interviewed on KUDO progressive talk radio in Anchorage said, “The governor says she will cooperate, and we have no reason to disbelieve her. She’s said it 6, 7, 8 times. She’s said it so many times, it seems illogical that she wouldn’t show up.” When asked what would happen if she did refuse to testify, he said, “We’ll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.” (*Note to Senator French - Please…no bridge metaphors.)

French also expressed disgust at Frank Baily, the Palin staffer who refused to show up for his scheduled deposition, noting that he’s currently on paid administrative leave and is “making $78,000 a year while he sits home,” refusing to testify and winning the prize for most irritating use of government funds in the state of Alaska.

State Senator Johnny Ellis (well respected and bipartisan) also made an appearance on KUDO, and stated that he firmly believed that no vetting process had happened. He was in contact with anyone who’s anyone in Republican circles, and no one was contacted about anything. Only Palin’s lawyer has claimed to have been contacted by the McCain camp, but never specified whether it was before or after she was selected. He wrapped it up by saying that he felt if we asked ourselves the question in our heart of hearts, no matter how we may feel about Palin personally, she is definitely not qualified to be the commander in chief, and leader of the free world."

Waiting for Sarah

On August 29, 2008 John McCain introduced Sarah Palin as his running mate. In all honesty, I'd never heard of her before, but from the little I heard as he introduced her, I figured this would make the race more interesting. My initial reaction to her resume was that it didn't seem appropriate for a VP, especially for a 72 year old candidate.

BUT, I figured JM must know what he was doing, and I was looking forward to hearing her express her views. So, I watched as she addressed the Republican Convention, and she had a masterful delivery of her speech. However, there was a lot of info out there about the fact that she didn't write any of it, so I continued to wait to actually hear her in a non-scripted environment. And waiting, and waiting...

Then today I saw the following on The Note (abcnews):


Obama is George Stephanopoulos' exclusive headliner on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.

Biden does "Meet the Press."

McCain does "Face the Nation."

"And Palin is doing . . . something that doesn't involve journalists and live television cameras," writes Newsweek's Andrew Romano.
