Gotta love Zach de la Rocha! He went to my HS but graduated about 5-6 years ahead of me, so I never met him.

We have a similar outlook in terms of being Latino, growing up in a very sterile white environment.

He's great! I heard him outside of the DNC in 2000, until the cops broke it up.

Que viva de la Rocha! He certainly gave his fans and followers something special a capella. And I really think that he internalizes and lives what he preaches. He has put himself in harms way for his art.

Without even knowing, I guessed they were going to use "Bulls on Parade." And Zack de la Rocha letting loose with "they rally round the family/with a pocket full of shells" hits at the heart. Excellent post!

Exactly. I found it moving and inspiring. Living example of speaking truth to power. Even how he addressed the crowd in the beginning as "my brothers and sisters". Zach brought to mind Bob Marley, Assatta Shakur, and Angela Davis in his conviction.

I saw this earlier. It is incredibly moving somehow, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I mean, Thom Morello yelling "wow wow chikka wow wow" through a bullhorn should be ridiculous, and yet it's not.

i agree. i expected it to be corny as hell, but knowing that they are surrounded by armed storm troopers and denied their instruments, it's amazing to see them and the crowd rise to the occasion.
