I think the MSM has probably realized that the McCain/Palin or Palin/McCain ticket is not all that it is cracked up to be. It is a small wonder that the polls haven't moved more in Obama's favor because McCain and Palin are self-destructing slowly.

I don't give the MSM one ounce of credit for this supposed “swing.” As PTcruiser put it, they're now savaging McThuselah and Mooselini because they're not playing ball the way the MSM wants them to. Yeah, the lies and what-not don't help, but I don't see this newly negative coverage of the Rethuglican ticket as some sort of “come-to-Jesus” moment. It's a bunch of BS that might–just might–happen to favor our side.

Palin Cancels Appearances NOT Because of Poll Numbers
I posted this one on the Friday Thread because I have been following MUDFLATS ever since I spoke to a person from Wasilla and my friend's parents who have lived in Alaska since 1968.
MSM has treated Alaska like it was “another country” and has, seemingly, IGNORED the truth being printed by their media. I like the Alaskan Daily News 2.
But, I'm also thinking that the MSM has had people in Alaska for sometime. Additionally, as election time approaches, I'm believing that we WILL see the National Enquirer blow this thing up – at the appropriate time!! I've got my “bomb shelter” built and my emergency supplies in order! :>)
I had kinda reduced “bringing” negative articles on “The Gov.” because I knew that the MSM would “do this” for us because they want the “scoop!”
So I believe that we are now at that point where the proverbial CHICKENS are gettin' their feet in order to do their ROOSTin' thing! :>)

“The New York Times editorial board–once again calling a lie a lie–slams both McCain and Obama for their Spanish-language ads about immigration policy. I've given up any hope of McCain running an honest campaign, but if Obama really wants to present an honorable alternative to McCain's non-stop sleaze, he should take down his immigration ad immediately.”
Both Klein and the New York Times, which have been extremely fair to Senator Obama, are right. What good does it do at this pivotal moment to have the media shift its focus from McCain's sleazy and dishonest ads to Obama's sleazy and dishonest ads? This ad only does one thing that I didn't think was humanly possible: generate sympathy for a racist pig like Rush Limbaugh.
No doubt David 'dumb' Plouffe and David 'dumber' Axelrod thought this was a good idea. What's new?! They come up with stupid ideas everyday, but Senator Obama knows better. As the old saying goes, the truth is bad enough no need to make stuff up. The Latino Community can see through the lies of the GOP without force feeding them misleading and childish ads like this. Senator Obama has been a consistent friend to the Latino Community. Inform them of that, NOT misinform them.

Conyers Calls Out McCain Over Voter Suppression
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) responded Friday to recent media reports on the plans of the Macomb County Republican Party Chairman and others to use lists of residents of foreclosed homes to block their participation at the ballot box — a voter suppression tactic called by some a form of “vote caging.” Conyers called on John McCain to direct his supporters to stop the practice. The letter:
“The Republican Party has had a long record of blocking eligible voters from voting. In the past two Presidential elections, the country witnessed appalling efforts to limit voter participation in Ohio, Florida and throughout the country. It is beyond disgraceful that the Republican Party now seems to be targeting those who are suffering the most. It appears that individuals who can't recall how many houses they own don't understand how awful it is to lose your home to foreclosure, and don't know that you don't need to own property to vote in the United States of America. It should surprise no one that the people who gave us the worst economy since the Great Depression would now want to prevent those victimized by this economy from voting in the coming elections. Senator McCain needs to step forward now and halt the Republican Party's efforts to profit politically from the economic misery of others.”
ABC News reported earlier this week that Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee filed an injunction in federal court to halt the practice.

The conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board finds John McCain's sudden economic policy shifts less than inspiring:
John McCain has made it clear this week he doesn't understand what's happening on Wall Street any better than Barack Obama does. But on Thursday, he took his populist riffing up a notch and found his scapegoat for financial panic — Christopher Cox, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
To give readers a flavor of Mr. McCain untethered, we'll quote at length: “Mismanagement and greed became the operating standard while regulators were asleep at the switch. The primary regulator of Wall Street, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) kept in place trading rules that let speculators and hedge funds turn our markets into a casino. They allowed naked short selling — which simply means that you can sell stock without ever owning it. They eliminated last year the uptick rule that has protected investors for 70 years. Speculators pounded the shares of even good companies into the ground.
“The chairman of the SEC serves at the appointment of the President and has betrayed the public's trust. If I were President today, I would fire him.”
Wow. “Betrayed the public's trust.” Was Mr. Cox dishonest? No. He merely changed some minor rules, and didn't change others, on short-selling. String him up! Mr. McCain clearly wants to distance himself from the Bush Administration. But this assault on Mr. Cox is both false and deeply unfair. It's also un-Presidential.

Fox News Demands McCain Campaign Remove Major Garrett From Campaign Ad
Fox News Friday sent the John McCain campaign a cease and desist letter demanding they remove the voice of correspondent Major Garrett from a recent campaign ad, Politico's Michael Calderone reported.
The ad, seen below, includes audio of Garrett reporting that Barack Obama would not say whether he supported or opposed the government bailout of AIG.
Fox News' letter, embedded below via DocStoc, says:
“It has come to the attention of Fox News this morning that ana d for the McCain campaign uses the voice of our Correspondent, Major Garrett. We demand that you immediately remove Mr. Garrett's voice from this ad. As Mr. Garrett is a non-partisan news correspondent covering the Obama campaign for Fox News, it is highly inappropriate, among other things, of your campaign to use him in your ad. Please confirm to me in writing that you have removed Mr. Garrett's voice from your ad.”

Last week, CBS forced YouTube to remove another McCain ad that used video of Katie Couric in a manner the network described as “misleading.” The campaign has also had several problems with recording artists and record labels over unauthorized use of songs they have played throughout the campaign.

AP Refuses To Comply With Secret Service Request On Sarah Palin's Hacked E-Mail
WASHINGTON — Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin used for official business as Alaska's governor, revealing as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since John McCain selected her as his running mate.
“This is a shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these e-mails will destroy them,” the McCain campaign said in a statement.
The Secret Service contacted The Associated Press on Wednesday and asked for copies of the leaked e-mails, which circulated widely on the Internet. The AP did not comply.
The disclosure Wednesday raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration's use of nongovernment e-mail accounts to conduct state business. The practice was revealed months ago _ prior to Palin's selection as a vice presidential candidate _ after political critics obtained internal e-mails documenting the practice by some aides.
One person whose e-mail to Palin apparently was among those disclosed, Amy B. McCorkell, declined to discuss her correspondence. “I do not know anything about it,” McCorkell said. “I'm not giving you any comment.” Wired.com said McCorkell later confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin.
Another of the e-mails apparently revealed Wednesday was an exchange in July with Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell discussing a talk show host who had been critical of Parnell. Parnell declined to discuss the matter.
Palin herself used “gov.sarah” in one of her e-mail addresses, but the hackers targeted her “gov.palin” account. Her husband used “fek9wnr” in his address. “Fe” is the representation for iron, and “k9″ is an abbreviation for canine. Todd Palin was the winner of the grueling Iron Dog snowmobile race, and “fek9wnr” also is Todd Palin's vehicle license tag in Alaska.
It wasn't immediately clear how hackers broke into Palin's Yahoo! account, but it would have been possible to trick the service into revealing her password knowing personal details about Palin that include her birthdate and ZIP code. A hacker also might have sent a forged e-mail to her account tricking her into revealing her own password.
