http://www.themudflats.net/2008/09/29/mccain-ca... McCain Camp Figures Out Sarah Palin's Problem Rarely do things actually make me laugh out loud, alone in a room…especially the Wall Street Journal. But, there’s a first time for everything.
(clearing throat and trying to be serious)
Apparently Republicans have figured out what Palin’s problem is, and what she needs to do to bolster her plummeting poll numbers. I DARE you to keep a straight face.
Some prominent Republicans and senior members of Congress have expressed worries about certain facets of the Palin campaign, particularly that Gov. Palin may be “overprepared” and not encouraged to be herself, an adviser said.
Sen. John McCain retracted Sarah Palin’s stance on Pakistan Sunday morning, after the Alaska governor appeared to back Sen. Barack Obama’s support for unilateral strikes inside Pakistan against terrorists“She would not…she understands and has stated repeatedly that we’re not going to do anything except in America’s national security interest,” McCain told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos of Palin. “In all due respect, people going around and… sticking a microphone while conversations are being held, and then all of a sudden that’s—that’s a person’s position… This is a free country, but I don’t think most Americans think that that’s a definitve policy statement made by Governor Palin.”
So, people sticking microphones into conversations, shouldn’t count? Hmmm…I seem to remember something about people clinging to guns and religion into a microphone…
So what was this wishy washy comment that wasn’t really what she meant?
“Clearly this was an Obama rally and nothing else. The rally proves the point of partisanship which the Governor has been trying to remove from the investigation in an effort to get a fair and just result.
The Governor remains an open book and is fully cooperating with the non-partisan Personnel Board and its independent investigator, which are statutorily authorized to conduct an investigation.
As you no doubt noticed the personal attacks at this rally, it is unfortunate that while we discuss the Governor and her record, the Obama campaign is resorting to personally attacking those who will continue to stand with the Governor and Alaskans and against personal smears.”
Now you know why several people at the rally had signs directed squarely at Meg Stapleton. When Alaskans start quoting Julius Caesar’s “Et tu, Brute?” (Even you Brutus?) you realize the extent to which she is seen as the ultimate betrayer.
As you can see, they are primarily focussed on "The Gov.: IMHO, it's helpful to hear the voices of the people who "knew her best."

' For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said. Accordingly, her family will be with her in Sedona during this week. Also, a key Alaska staffer joined the Palin operation Sunday."
Sounds like Todd wants Sarah's ass at home! Before all of this McCain attention Todd could get all the perks he wanted, paid for by the people of Alaska. Todd could be co-governor and wheel and deal and nobody knew about it. He could pop a wheelie on the side of the mountain and do the Running Man with the moose and nobody cared. But now the National Enquirer is all up in their business, the blogs are coming out in force against her, Alaskans holding rallies against her every day, the entire USA...no, WORLD is laughing at her ass and Todd sees his good times coming to an end.
If Sarah Palin leaves this ticket, it will be at Todd's behest. If Conservative Republicans really want her off the ticket, they need to get to her through Todd.

Yes, it can get worse:
The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions. After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.
There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

rikyrah: Joe Klein says McAncient added CONFUSION to this bailout issue - i.e., the REPUGS WERE CONFUSED!!!
I don't blame John McCain for not rounding up enough Republican votes to get this bailout bill through the House of Representatives--he's not a member of the House, he's never held a leadership position and therefore doesn't know how to whip votes and finally--well, uh--there is one tried and true method for getting members of Congress to vote aye and McCain opposes it: a sweetener, like say, funding for a bridge in their districts. That is one reason why we have earmarks. McCain is opposed to giving away baubles for the greater good.
I do blame McCain for his puerile histrionics and for dragging this issue--which should have been above partisanship--into presidential politics. Let's make no mistake about it: his various gimmicks had absolutely nothing to do with the substance of the issue. He doesn't know all that much about the substance of the issue. The gimmicks were a failed attempt to make it seem as if he had powers, and knowledge, he didn't have. Clearly, he was in a more difficult position than Obama--the populist conservative wing of House Republicans was unwilling to take responsibility for the fruits of the deregulation that they promoted--and that might have required a more aggressive effort to move votes on his part, but the flailing about only confused Republicans (was he for, was he against?) and made matters worse. [Via Crooks and Liars] How did things go for John McCain last week? Lindsey Graham, who usually flacks McCain with a psychopathic, operatic zeal, got to a point Sunday morning on Fox News where he just sort of ... gave up. When it came time to respond to public support of Senator Barack Obama after the debate at Ole Miss, Graham at first attempted to pull out some good news from the polling data. But he quickly folded under minimal pressure from Chris Wallace, confessing finally that he was "tired" and concluding, "Senator Obama did well. Senator Obama helped himself."
A prominent GOP strategist said on Monday that John McCain handled his role in the bailout process poorly and would ultimately be hurt politically by the failure of the House of Representatives to pass the measure.
"To a certain extent, I think John gets hurt by this," said Ed Rollins, a CNN contributor who worked on former Gov. Mike Huckabee's primary campaign earlier this cycle. "He obviously, at the end of the day, said he was for it. But more important than that, he said he was the one who would bring them to the table and to a certain extent he will be viewed now as not being able to do that."
Rollins added, "McCain is our nominee and [congressional Republicans] will do everything they can to help him, but they are not going to go over the cliff for him. They did that for Bush, and they thought that this measure was just too dramatic for their constituencies.

rikyrah: As I continue to follow the Williams sisters, I was wondering when the concept of racism was going to raise its head. Oh, they have EXPERIENCED IT, but, news articles have not articulated the concept - except tangentially. This article suggests that the RACE voice is getting becoming audible.
With the first presidential debate behind us, the next big showdown looms in the Spring of '09. By then, if the U.S. Constitution holds, the nation will have seated its harried 44th president and his stressed-out Treasury secretary.
SKIP
But we need a break; tennis anyone? By March 9, the Williams sisters must decide whether to continue their boycott of the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament.
The play at the net concerns a change in the Women's Tennis Association rules in 2007 that makes it mandatory for top-10 ranked players to show at Southern California's Indian Wells, a non-Grand Slam event. Serena and Venus Williams, ranked No. 1 and No. 8, respectively, would be forced to appear or face suspension and heavy fines. Each has been boycotting the tournament since 2001.
SKIP
Both sisters swore never again to play at Indian Wells. Time will reveal whether their commitment will wither under the new WTA rules drafted to force their hands and remove the stigma of racism from this tournament. Sports are indeed a reliable laboratory to put the national character under the microscope. As terrible as the pain the racists put the Williams family through there, the bipolarity of patriotism comes as sharply into focus. Serena was a striking young American, up against the Belgian Kim Clijsters for the championship. Yet, the hometown girl, an African-American, heard her every mistake cheered as she was booed with a slur by the wealthy, upscale, well-educated, white tennis fans.
SKIP
This institutionalized de-motivation that America directs at high-potential, young black achievers was totally neutralized by the Williams sisters' father, Richard. As when Serena won the recent U.S. Open, and Venus, Wimbledon, the sisters brim with a confidence that seems to rattle players on the court. When interviewing Serena after her victory, PBS host Charlie Rose raised the "intimidation" aspect of her game. She countered with what her supporters consider a more significant component: mental toughness.
Media analysts and tennis fans do not relate to Serena and Venus comfortably; nor do they embrace them for the treasure they are. In tennis as in politics, race still colors Americans' appreciation of the game just as it overrides national pride.
So much for Americans' claims of putting country first.
Ya know, it has been my observation that sports newscasters have FREQUENTLY decribed the Williams sisters as being ATHLETIC. The girls with the "WHITE GENE" are FREQUENTLY described as SKILLFUL, have a great "touch" at the net [for that drop shot] and they have nice ball placement!! And they just co-sign each other with , virtually, no one challenging the TERMINOLOGY! CRAP!!
Actually, this continues my motivation to work hard for Mr. Obama! Will be continuing my VOTER REGISTRATION EFFORT!! :>)

Palin Says She's Ready To Rumble
ABC News' Ron Claiborne reports: Seemingly brimming with confidence, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she is ready to go head-to-head with Democratic Sen. Joe Biden in the vice presidential debate this week.
"I guess it's my turn now and I do look forward to Thursday and debating Senator Biden," she told a roaring crowd at a joint campaign rally Monday in Columbus, Ohio with Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain.
Palin told the audience "I'll do my part in St. Louis this week” in her debate against Sen. Biden, while mocking his age and experience, and his sports prognostication skills to the Ohio State Buckeye-friendly audience.
"I'm looking forward to meeting him too," Palin said. "I've never met him before. But, I've been hearing about his senate speeches since I was in like second grade. I have to admit though he is a great debater and looks pretty doggone confident like he's sure he's gonna win. But, then again this is the same Senator Biden who said the other day that the University of Delaware would trounce the Ohio State Buckeyes. Wrong!"
The allusion to Biden's 36 years in the U.S. Senate was an odd remark coming from the running mate of McCain, 72, a man who has been in Congress for the past 26 years and whose age has been cited as a concern of many voters, according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll.
Palin, 44, has been facing criticism in recent days for seeming unsteady and halting answering questions in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric.
Palin will reportedly spend Tuesday and Wednesday in intense preparation for the debate.
McCain's top advisers, Steve Schmidt and campaign manager Rick Davis, are working with her to get her ready for a debate at which some political analysts say she must do well to dispel questions about her experience and familiarity with national and international policy.
Another double standard. If Obama would have tried to take a jab of McCain's age they would have been crying foul- ageism. With her lack of experience and substance a little humility is in order.

That cow is lying again about Biden. He's been in the Senate for less than thirty years and any speeches he would have given, she would have been old enough to damn well vote by that time.

He repeated his talking points (earmarks, Obama not claiming victory, the success of the surge and the fact that he intends to continue with the surge when he is elected, Obama will raise taxes on the middle class) all of which was so clearly disputed on Friday night's debates it was . . . well pitiful.

McCain says Obama policies will deepen recession By DAVID ESPO – 49 minutes ago
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Lagging in the polls, Republican presidential candidate John McCain unleashed a blistering attack Monday on his Democratic rival, saying the race comes down to a simple question: "Country first or Obama first?"
In his first public appearance since Friday night's debate, McCain said Democrat Barack Obama advocates tax-and-spend policies that "will deepen our recession," and voted against funding for equipment needed by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"That is not putting the men and women of our military first," he said.
McCain stressed his own record of opposing Republicans on key issues, and said, "When it comes time to reach across the aisle and work with members of both parties to get things done for the American people — my opponent can't name a single occasion in which he fought against his party's leadership to get something done for the country. That is not putting the interests of the country first."
Obama's campaign issued a swift rebuttal that accused McCain of an "angry diatribe" that it said "won't make up for his erratic response to the greatest financial crisis of our time."
The Arizona senator spoke at a joint rally with running mate Sarah Palin, who said she is looking forward to this Thursday's debate with Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware.
"I've been hearing his speeches since I was in the second grade," the 44-year-old Alaska governor said of her counterpart, who is 65 and a veteran of more than 35 years in the Senate.
The speech was McCain's first outside Washington since he announced abruptly last week he was suspending his campaign to concentrate on helping Congress agree on a bailout for the troubled financial industry. He drew heated criticism from Democrats who accused him of nearly derailing negotiations that were headed for success, and even some Republicans conceded privately he appeared impetuous and had not helped his own cause.
Recent polls also suggest Obama has regained a lead he held in the race before the Republican National Convention, where McCain's choice of Palin energized conservatives and led to a short-term surge in his poll ratings.
In a statement, the Obama campaign said McCain was untruthful in describing Obama's record on taxes, "and the lie he told the American people today is all the more outrageous a day after he admitted that his health care plan will increase taxes on some families."
The votes in question occurred on a Democratic budget outline that set tax and spending outlines for the future, but did not actually raise taxes.
Obama has said he voted against one war funding measure only because it contained no timetable for withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq and compared that to McCain's vote against a war funding measure that did contain a timetable for withdrawal.
In a speech of less than 30 minutes, McCain challenged Obama's truthfulness and his support for the armed forces, as well as.
"Two times, on March 14, 2008 and June 4, 2008, in the Democratic budget resolution, he voted to raise taxes on people making just 42,000 dollars per year. He even said at the time that this vote for higher taxes on the middle class was `getting our nation's priorities back on track,'" the Republican said.
"Then something amazing happened: on Friday night, he looked the American people in the eye and said it never happened. My friends, we need a President who will always tell the American people the truth."
McCain sought to turn the tables on his rival. "Senator Obama took a very different approach to the crisis our country faced. At first he didn't want to get involved. Then he was "monitoring the situation." That's not leadership, that's watching from the sidelines," he said.
In the early days of the economic crisis, McCain seemed uncertain how to react. His first response was to say the fundamentals of the economy were strong. Then he backtracked, saying the workers form the foundation of the economy and they are strong. Then he called for a blue-ribbon commission to study the root causes of the debacle on Wall Street. Then he called for the ouster of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox, with each shift drawing ridicule from Obama.
Like Obama, McCain has not yet announced how he intends to vote on the measure.
But aides said he intends to return to the Senate for the roll call later in the week, and he signaled on Sunday he would likely vote in favor of the measure, which gives the Treasury authority to spend up to $700 billion to purchase distressed assets on the books of financial institutions.
Several Republicans said House GOP leaders had asked McCain to make phone calls to wavering rank and file lawmakers to try and persuade them to support the bill. Campaign aides did not immediately say whether any of the calls had been made.
McCain broadened his attack on Obama to include spending.
The Democrat "has proposed more than $860 billion in new spending," McCain said. "He was asked in our debate Friday to name a single program he would consider cutting to help our country through this crisis, and he struggled to name a single program!"
In the debate, McCain suggested a partial freeze on government spending, excluding defense, veterans and other programs he did not identify. In reply, Obama said the problem with a freeze is that it short-changes programs which deserve an increase. He mentioned early childhood education as an example.

Refers of course to Jesus, but ties in so well with Obama's gratitude for "those who came before" and the suffering they endured that the next generation might have more.
12:7 goes on, "Endure hardship as discipline..." It seems to me that Obama is already reaching for the spiritual strength he and all of the world will need to handle the coming storm. He knows that, if he's elected, he will preside over a terrible economy with much pain for all.
12:11: "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

GreenLady, that song always makes me smile b/c it makes me think of dancing w/ my dad at my wedding. That was our song. :) :)
GreenLadyHere
carolinagirl: I cannot THANK YOU ENOUGH for this response! :>)
I couldn't be happier in that it brings back such a PLEASANT MEMORY in your life!!
Continue to ENJOY!! :>)
BTW, I can't listen to this song without crying! My wonderful Daddy is in heaven - enjoying his ETERNAL REST! Can't wait to "Dance with him again!" :>)
saw it...folks were responding like he was testifying..LOL
Miranda
Thanks Val! when he got near the end and started his "those who came before us" leading with Shirley Chisolm....it was "moaning" time as my grandmama would say! LOL If Obama wasn't a politician, he was definitely gonna be a minister.
parker404
I have been looking for this speech since Saturday and have not found it ANYwhere!! I was hoping he'd come "home" to the CBC and give this type of address.
Miranda
I was listening as I was driving.....and thought I needed to pull over...you can not tell me the spirit didn't hit him.....he completely left politics and went all up on the mountain...he built up to that peak...and then dropped it down like those GOOD preachers do! LOL!!!! It was a revival......People were screaming, I know he was sweating!....I was expecting to hear somebody bust out with "Precious Lord"
I gotta hand it to you Karmi. You are a dedicated troll. LOL. When times are good or bad, you always rear your ugly head up in here. Hang in there troll, I'm sure you'll change somebody's mind...... LMAO.
Val
Karmi - stop it. that is below even you.

Apparently there are layers underneath that we just didn't know about.
Pfotenhauer: Gwen Ifill will have some 'splainin to do if she doesn't watch it Thursday night.
Sepia
What's up with these white people telling black folks how to do their job???
parker404
Yeah they're tripping. Gwen Ifill may not be as job-secure as the billionaire Queen at Harpo, but I seriously doubt the good liberal white folk at PBS will fire her if she makes Caribou Barbie feel a little uncomfortable Thursday.
freespiritbty
GTFOH!! What are they going to do, smear Ifill for doing her job? Fracking bullies. RI-DAM-DICULOUS. The MccCain campaign keep saying, ad nauseum,Palin has the "executive experience", moreso than Obama, yet, Palin can't answer "too many foreign policy questions"? WTF? WTF? Are these people serious? I am sick of the "passive/aggressive attitude regarding Palin. Either she's qualified and can stand on her own, or she isn't. Enough of this middle ground garbage. Pfoenhamer needs a tall glass of STFU!
Who in the frack does she think she is?
GreenLadyHere
freespiritbty: Who the frack does she think she is?
Girlllll: I hate ta keep using this, BUT when it's SO TRUE, I gotta say it!
ANSWER: She knows one thing; She is a girl with the WHITE GENE
The WHITE GENE confers - PRIVILEGE, as she has clearly demonstrated!
I love Jimi.... Thanks Rikyrah for that vid. CLASSIC!!!
As for the debate last week... Obama underperformed when measured against his potential. The current situation with the economy increased what he potentially could have done in that debate.
He should have done a much better job of spelling out McCain's past history regarding his efforts to deregulate the Financial Industry, and he should have spelled out for the viewers how McCain's record connects to the current economic problems (both on Main Street and Wall Street). And he should have provided a tutorial on the Republican laissez-faire economic philosophy that helped lead to the problems (although some Dems were knee deep in this nonsense as well). But it's mostly been the Republican approach of less regulation and more greed that got us here. He had McCain in his sights...like a sitting duck. McCain was in a box....where he couldn't run, duck or dodge (or call on a staff member). But Obama let him go.
I understand that it was a debate that was supposed to focus on foreign policy... but the economy took up approx. half the time. Obama settled for an o.k. performance (IMO) when he could have routed McCain. He let a golden opportunity slip away.
But I also agree with some who have said that all Obama had to do was show poise... and to show he had a command of the issues... enough to make voters comfortable enough to consider him (particularly the undecideds). He had to dispell all of the misinformation that has been spread about him over the last few weeks and months (although with the long Dem. primary... I think a lot of those questions had already been answered by now). Many voters are just looking for an alternative to voting Republican...and will be willing to support any viable choice...and part of what Obama did (while it wasn't a blowout) was show that he is a viable choice. A minimalist approach if he did it consciously...but apparently it was effective.
If he can improve in the next two debates... and if Palin flops (I am keeping my fingers crossed), then he may be able to establish a solid lead from here on out. I'm often tough on Obama because he (and his staff) seems to forget that the burden of proof will always be on him. He has to prove himself to voters (and reassure) at all times... I'm not saying that this is the way it should be... but this is the reality of where we are. He has the burden of proof because he does not fit the mold of the traditional American (white) Presidential candidate. White candidates (even when they aren't qualified....we see this with Palin now), don't have this burden... or they don't have it nearly to the same degree. Candidates like McCain and Palin (even when they are not qualified as is the case with Palin) will get the benefit of the doubt by default. Since they fit the mold so well (just by their class position, race, political affiliations, etc), they don't face the kind of scrutiny that a more unorthodox, or non-White candidate has to deal with. Look at Palin for example... it was only a couple of weeks ago that the media really started to dig a little deeper. Obama doesn't have that kind of privilege. All Palin and McCain have to do is show up... and they are spotted a grade of B just for that. Obama, on the other hand, has to work his a** off at all times. He can't afford to get too comfortable IMO.
He will need as big a lead as possible going into election day, just to overcome prejudice, and whatever election tricks folks have in store.
We are already reading about the sickness going on in Ohio....with the anti-Muslim campaign and the reports of possible hate crimes that followed. These folks are willing to do anything.... ANYTHING to get McCain (s)elected President.
So Obama has to take every opportunity (all fair and legit opportunities) to highlight differences between himself and McCain and to help his campaign.

The 3 A.M. Call By PAUL KRUGMAN It’s 3 a.m., a few months into 2009, and the phone in the White House rings. Several big hedge funds are about to fail, says the voice on the line, and there’s likely to be chaos when the market opens. Whom do you trust to take that call?
I’m not being melodramatic. The bailout plan released yesterday is a lot better than the proposal Henry Paulson first put out — sufficiently so to be worth passing. But it’s not what you’d actually call a good plan, and it won’t end the crisis. The odds are that the next president will have to deal with some major financial emergencies.
So what do we know about the readiness of the two men most likely to end up taking that call? Well, Barack Obama seems well informed and sensible about matters economic and financial. John McCain, on the other hand, scares me.
I do not like you, John McCain. My feeling has nothing to do with issues. It has to do with common courtesy. During the debate, you refused to look Barack Obama in the eye. Indeed, you refused to look at him at all. Even when the two of you shook hands at the start, you used your eyes only to locate his hand, and then gazed past him as you shook it.
Obama is my guy. If you are rude to him, you are rude to me. If you came to dinner at my house and refused to look at or speak with one of my guests, that would be bad manners and I would be offended. Same thing if I went to your house. During the debate, you were America's guest.
What was your problem? Do you hold this man in such contempt that you cannot bear to gaze upon him? Will you not even speak to him directly? Do you think he doesn't have the right to be running for President? Were you angry because after you said you wouldn't attend the debate, he said a President should be able to concern himself with two things at the same time? He was right. The proof is, you were there. Were you angry with him because he called your bluff?
During the debate, Jim Lehrer repeatedly called upon both candidates to speak directly to each other. Obama looked at you. He addressed you as "John," which as a fellow senator is his privilege. His body language was open. You stared straight ahead, or at Lehrer, or into space. Your jaw was clinched. You had a tight little smile, or a grimace, or a little shake of your head.
I had to do two things at once while watching the debate. I had to listen to what was being said. And I had to process your rigid and contemptuous behavior. If you were at a wedding and the father of the groom refused to look at or speak to the bride, how would that make you feel? Especially if you were the father of the bride?
You made a TV commercial showing the moments Obama agreed with you. Everybody knows he did. Did his agreement show honesty, or weakness? It is significant that you said it proved he was not ready to lead. What is the better leadership quality: (1) Willingness to listen to your opponent, and keep an open mind? (2) Rigidly ignoring him? Which of the two of you better demonstrated the bipartisan spirit you say you represent? Was there anything he said that you agreed with? Could you have brought yourself to say so?
I'm not the only one who noticed your odd, hostile behavior. Just about everybody did. I'm sure many of your supporters must have sensed the tension. Before the debate, pundits were wondering if you might explode in a display of your famous temper. I think we saw that happen, all right, but it was an implosion. I have instructed my wife to exclude you from any future dinner parties.
Being married to that sista, Chaz....naw, I won't go THERE

Hey Rikyrah - yesterday you brought up the Palin kids marriage prior to election. Here are some responses from the UK blogs. *******************************************************
You have to be kidding me?! Using the shotgun marriage of two teenagers to revive an election?!! McCain has clearly lost his frggin mind
Alexander, MAPLE GROVE, MN, U.S.
John McCain's entire campaign is ridiculous. It's passed beyond the level of the absurd long ago. We've entered some strange new territory here. I'm sorry to have to tell those of you from overseas unfortunately a sizeable portion of the American voters are capable of being just THIS dumb.
John, Chicago,
If this "circus" is allowed to go on it will be a new low for U.S. politics, and God knows it's low enough! You folks do realize the whole world is watching this election closely, don't you?
Allison Sloan, Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Dear Sarah Palin: Has anyone ever asked Bristol if it was okay that she becomes John McCain's election strategy? If her teenage pregnancy and attendant shotgun marriage are an off-limits, 'private family matter', why do you keep trotting it out to help the campaign along? Puke.
arla sorkin manson, los angeles, california, usa
Johanna of Toronto: about the "former hero sink[ing] to such depths of cynicism and manipulation," Senator McCain is an elder narcissist. He is self-centered w/a nasty temper. To him winning wars are not just in the past, they are in his on again, off again current need to be adored at center stage.
Miichael D., Ventura, California,
Three wars (if you count US vs Pakistan) simmering away, the biggest downturn since the 30's, the government in hock to foreign countries and the US then elects a team with Palin on the ticket on the back of poll surge from a glitzy wedding. As Matt Damon said "It's a really bad Disney movie"
John Small, Faversham, UK
18 is considered a 'respectable age for a bride' ... ? At what point do we want to be encouraging our teenage children to get pregnant and married so young?
We truly do get the government we deserve if we don't stop McCain and Caribou Barbie from getting the White House.
BlackAmericanPrincess
Thanks sooo much for the Hendrix footage, HUGE fan of his, the man was a genius. I wish he were alive so he could play the national anthem at the inauguration celebration when Barack is sworn in as the 44th president. :)

Just got back from Seattle where Jimi is a hometown hero... "The Experience"
rarely hear the full version of this -- usually I hear it mixed into something else. I've always thought of this as patriotic protest -- I think I'm confirmed by the framing of it in this video. ?
If black people, as we have been asserting for some time, aren’t monolithic, why should we believe anything different about white Americans?
Why is this important? Because in these final days of this presidential campaign season, when the "Racial Polarization" game begins in earnest, you will need to remember who the good guys are if you support Barack Obama. Because I've found myself beginning to do what a lot of you might be thinking - railing against white Americans as a group instead of railing against the individuals, black or white, or the organizations who threaten my candidate's chances.
Brown Man: I will be "Field Trippin'" to your site. Thanks! :>)
Anderkoo
As a non-white and a non-black person, reading this I say: right on. Brown Man Thinking Hard has written a beautiful piece about reconciliation. "Universal subjectivity" is a wonderful way to think. But there are also some frustatingly old-school Baby Boomers who, nonetheless, remember what fighting for civil rights meant to them -- and many, too who missed their chance and aren't going to sit it out again. I've heard those stories over and over again, too, and no -- they are not "over" racism -- but they are not "those people" either.
dj, this was posted yesterday- including a letter sent to the DailyKos from someone who believes his connected to the McCain campaign. Check this one out too. Sick.
You're assuming that scenario if McCain steals the election or if this country really demonstrates their bigotry and actually vote him in.
Todd Palin will be calling the shots if that happens, because Sarah's too dumb and she's the type that will willingly become a puppet at the hands of male masters.

CPL: Co-signing. It's ENOUGH to watch her verbal/oratorical/pseudo-intellectual DEMISE during this general election. Pul-eeze, I don't need/want to think beyond this point.
I'm getting SICK to my stomach watching these 2 with the WHITE GENE get a PASS from so many! No more!
