Listening to The Ed Schultz Show. A guy from The Nation was just on and he said that the lawyers that are headed to Alaska aren't going to vet Sarah Palin. They're going there to shut the Alaskan Republican Party members that have criticized Palin! In other words -- BRIBES!

Well - we can't knock that decision Admiral. They want him there tonight . . that is their choice. but this now opens another can of worms. No Way is the media going to back off and now most importantly all this drama will be paraded around for everyone to see.

My concern is whether he will be on stage with the family. Tonight I am sure will be highly televised and folks from around the world are watching us. Everyone wants to see who could be inhabiting the White House for the next four years.

They will see McCain, Palin his vp pick, a pregnant unwed teen, who is involved with a high school drop out and who refers to himself as a f***ing redneck", and they could be the new "face" of America..

I don't know about you but I mean no harm. She is probably a great Mom, and great Governor of Alaska -- but I have a HUGE problem with her representing me and my own family.

To me, the Sarah Palin announcement is the most frightening announcement of the 2008 campaign.

A radical Christianist extremist is on a major party ticket for the executive branch of the American government. It's one thing for a party to pander to this element. It's quite another for a party to nominate someone from this element for the executive branch of our nation.

If the media was doing its job, that would be THE story of this convention.

Dan Balz, the Post's senior political writer, reported this morning that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was first interviewed at length by the head of Republican Sen. John McCain's vice presidential vetting team just one day before McCain asked her to be his running mate and that she did not disclose her 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy until that meeting.

Well, most of our Readers Who Comment on that story appear to be supporters of the Democratic ticket, because they're having as much fun with this as readers who appear to be supporters of the Republican ticket have had with stories about, say, Barack Obama's former Chicago pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Some comments are funny, some make good points, a few are inappropriate and violate our comment standards and will get removed. Civil discourse is not always a feature of internet conversation.

There are many more comments suggesting that McCain made a poor choice in selecting Gov. Palin than there are comments of support. A few suggest she is no more poorly qualified than Obama and note that she has actually been in charge of something (a city and now a state). There are the usual attacks on the "liberal" media. But the majority of comments at this hour suggest Palin was selected for the wrong reasons and call McCain's judgment into question.

Ron Paul gave an interview in which he said the RNC did not want to give him a convention pass in advance...he would have to pick his pass up at the gate and they would pick it up from him before he left....he was not allowed to bring anyone with him.

So, I'm wondering, why is the RNC scared of Ron Paul.?..He IS a Republican member of Congress and is not apparently fully welcome to the RNC festivities.

And to think we had to CONTINUOUSLY hear about Clinton-Obama drama all last week, It looks like Ron Paul drew as many people to his convention rally.

So now is Obama running against Palin or McCain? Is this a part of the McCain/Palin tactics or are people losing focus?

I see your point however, as someone who could be potentially the President of the United States it is fair to scrutinize her qualifications and judgment.

We should continue to couch our critiques in policy terms and speak directly to how her influences and such jeopardize the separation of the church and state, freedom of choice, and the direction of energy policies not to mention the economy, national security (which we all know is McCain's baby and she'll have NO influence on.)

We should start speaking about the McCain/Palin ticket.

Even worse. He did not graduate high school. So now we have teens indulging in premarital sex, not making smart decisions on protection (we all know pregnancy has nothing on aids etc.) and now we are encouraging that young teens get married, and one of them is a high school drop out.

I disagree with most who said don't touch Palin's kids (i.e. Bristol and Levi). They are now fully grown, will be parents and are getting married. They stepped across the line and are now considered adults.

My concerns are related to three policy issues that should be addressed by this.
1. the importance of educating young people on sex.
2. marriage is no solution for pregnancy
3. Education is key. We need to address the drop out rate of young people.

Levi's Mom said he is no longer a student at the high school and refused to say if he graduated. She said it was for Levi to answer that question.

Education and working with at risk young people is important to me.

WASILLA, Alaska -- High school dropout rates remain an issue for educators and communities across the nation.

A recent study by Johns Hopkins University aimed to identify schools across the U.S. with particularly high dropout rates.

Several schools here in Alaska received failing grades. Of the 40 high schools in the state, seven made the list. One of them is in the Mat-Su District.

Students at Wasilla High School shuffle from one classroom to the next in a typical day. They stop at lockers between classes just like students at other schools and discuss the day's goings-on.

Today's conversations buzzed with news of a new distinction the Wasilla High students have earned, although it's not so noteworthy.

Wasilla High was named a "dropout factory" by the Johns Hopkins study.

"I know we're not a dropout factory, but somebody took some data and came up with that label for us," said Wasilla High School principal Dwight Probasco.

Probasco has been principal at Wasilla High for 15 years. He says hearing about the Johns Hopkins study came as a shock. He said he had heard nothing from researchers and didn't know of a community survey to gather the data.

The data used by Johns Hopkins researchers came from the National Center for Education and tracked senior classes for three years from 2004 until 2006.

I agree with everything that's been said and have the atlantic article set aside to read later. While I agree that both parties need to start talking more about the economy, once people here McCain/Palin's stances on views, they're exactly opposites on economy, I think Obama/Biden stand ahead.

Also, it's just ironic that Palin only wanted abstinence only taught in schools, she's against contraceptions and etc, now, her daughter's pregnant. -That also leads me to wonder, what's wrong with the white community?
