How can anyone not look at that crowd of delegates at the GOP convention and not get an empty cold feeling? It doesn't reflect the United States of America at all. Its a group that has contempt for minorities. They simply despise people of color.
Dang! It took me like 10 seconds to figure out what was funny. I thought it was a little shop or something! That's their City Hall!!? OMG!!! Wow, she must have a really tough job with a lot of responsibilities and people to manage LOL!

Hey JJP -- I share your goal in November, but I'm a little worried about being consumed by the Dark Side. By all means join in the truth-telling around McCain-Palin, but isn't this the "black bourgeoisie perspective on U.S. politics"? The bashing is satisfying at first, but if we want a victory worth winning, it's also important we push out the beautiful truth, not just the ugly ones... Just sayin'
I completely agree, but this is a rare opportunity for people to get to know McCain's choice, Sarah Palin. An opportunity McCain himself did not take advantage of. We'll try to keep it principled and factual, but I don't see anything wrong with this post or the other "McCain's Choice" posts I've fired off today.
Let me know if you do. I take your feedback seriously.
But I'm also tired of playing defense, and it bothers me to see McCain skate on "honor" and "integrity" and "country first" while dumping this unprepared extremist on the country to help him come in first in the presidential race.
He doesn't get to do that.
Enough.

I have two takes on this:
(1) As a matter of political strategy, shake their nuts. There's the substantive issues -- e.g. the Road to the Bridge to Nowhere, the Alaskan corruption, Troopergate, etc. That's legit no matter how you slice it. Of course there's the Rove/Penn approach -- painting her as "out of the mainstream." That's where the babies potentially scare off the American moderate middle.
(2) But on that latter front, I would be worried about provoking a culture war that will continue to divide us in ways that just hurt poor people. Sarah Palin's family and personal story is not one of privilege and wealth. Maybe because she's white (but: her husband is partially Native) she might benefit from a double standard, but if so, I wouldn't say it's very much of one. (Do you really think her family's situation causes Wall Street GOPers to admire her grit or freak out? Look what happened to Gov. Jane Swift's baby situation here in "liberal" Massachusetts).
To quote Obama, "In fact, a similar anger exists within segments of the white community. Most working- and middle-class white Americans don't feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race... Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze... And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns - this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding."
"Understanding" is not a great way to win an election, to be sure, but since Reconstruction big-money interests have been brilliant at dividing the white poor from the black poor, and attacking Palin the wrong way could continue that legacy. Rather than point out the "hypocrisy" of white evangelicals who embrace Palin but rebuff inner-city black parents, isn't there a way of equating the two with empathy rather than anger? (Don't confuse the white evangelical grassroots who might genuinely, if naively, embrace a black family in the same situation as Palin with their power-broker spokesmen, just as we shouldn't confuse Al Sharpton with the black community). Remember that the most recent national teen pregnancy scandal happened right here in 92% white Gloucester Mass.
So I guess my conclusion is: unless we really want to throw the mud down in a very calculated play for the American middle while alienating the evangelical Christians -- the same ones who are most likely to support an anti-poverty agenda -- leave the kids alone.
I think it's McCain / Palin who's skurred, not Obama / Biden.

Yes, because every single criticism is now "sexism"...haven't we played this game before?? Time to release Claire, Donna, Hillary, Kathleen and more on these jerks.

Yeah, anti-corruption minded woman...who headed up the 527 org of the guy at the center of the scandal she supposedly made her name on. But I guess you Republicans don't see anything wrong with that.
Yeah, a white woman who is a Christian Dominionist. But I guess you Republicans have no problem with that.
Yeah, a white Republican woman who was a supporter of Pat Buchanan...but I guess black Republicans have no problem with that.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Sarah Palin had belonged to the Alaskan Independence Party in the early 1990s instead of the Republican Party. The AIP now exists mostly as a fringe political party, but had been mainstream enough in 1994 that their gubernatorial candidate had attracted 38% of the vote. Later, though, the party appeared to emphasize an effort to explore options regarding secession and independence.
Now, however, the McCain campaign blog McCain Report states that New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller simply made it up:
While the press scrambles to report on the process by which Governor Palin was offered the second spot on the Republican ticket, New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller has opted instead to make up her own version of events. As the AP reports, “Sarah Palin voluntarily told John McCain’s campaign about her pregnant teenage daughter and her husband’s 2-decade-old DUI arrest during questioning as part of the Republican’s vice presidential search, the lawyer who conducted the background review said.” Yet according to Bumiller, yesterday’s disclosures “called into question” how thoroughly Governor Palin had been vetted. Why the discrepancy? It seems one reporter actually reported the story, while Bumiller made up her own. …
And Bumiller writes that Governor Palin “was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party.” Not true, and unsourced. Governor Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982.
I’m not aware that Bumiller reported on this story, but she’s not the only one who did so. Jake Tapper, generally regarded as a balanced and careful political reporter, also reported on the story yesterday. Lynnette Clark, an AIP official, went on record with ABC at least to make this allegation, such as it was. Given that, it hardly seems accurate to call it “unsourced” or to focus one’s ire on Bumiller, at least in this case.
Tapper also contacted the McCain campaign, though, who provided documentation to refute the allegation:
A day after ABC News requested a response from Palin as to whether she was ever a member of the AIP, McCain campain spox Brian Rogers told ABC News that Clark’s “allegations are false.”
“Governor Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982,” Rogers says, providing some voter registration documentation showing her to be a Republican. “As you know, if she changed her registration, there would have been some record of it. There isn’t.”
Rogers says the McCain campaign provided ABC News with all the voter registration information that exists. Rogers says that Palin didn’t attend the AIP convention in 1994, “but she visited them when they had their convention in Wasilla in 2000 as a courtesy since she was mayor.”
He would not comment as to why AIP officials are so convinced Palin was a member of their party. When asked if Palin ever identified herself as a member of the AIP, Rogers said, “No, she’s a lifelong Republican.”
Sarah Palin never belonged to the AIP. That’s the bottom line. Instead of making this argument about Bumiller, the McCain report would be better served by pointing the finger at Lynette Clark, who is obviously so desperate for attention that she exploited Palin’s newfound fame to get her 15 minutes in the limelight.
Get over your fear by arming yourself with some facts.
you are so funny. Palin has always been Pro Alaska and she was a member of the AIP. Wny don't you google her interview when she was asked about the possibility of being the vp pick and she said that first she would need to know what a VP does and how it would benefit Alaska. lol
No amount of spin will change that fact. It is what it is. You should spend your time talking to your candidate. I can't believe he subjected the Republican party and the United States to this nonsense. With all eyes on this election McCain successfully proved how much he is like Bush. McCain has singlehandedly made the GOP the laughingstock of this election and the world.
It is clear that McCain believes this election is a joke and cares nothing about the American people. Country First My *ss. Pitiful.

hahaha!
That was a classic moment. Do you notice they've been using female surrogates on the talk shows?
Town
They're not using too many female Republican ELECTED officials, either. They're all former officials or talking heads or surrogates. That's because any sane Republican woman would be PISSED off that McCain found the president of the book burning club up in Mayberry, Alaska instead of considering one of them. They ain't trying to destroy their credibility by speaking on behalf of Palin.

Marylin Manson: "One hates what one fears."
Based on the title of this thread I can only assume that Sarah Palin scares the hell out of you.
An attractive, intelligent, principled, independent, conservative, Christian, pro-life, gun-owning, anti-corruption, reform minded white Republican woman who is the face of the future for the Republicans.
I do not hate Barack Obama. I simply oppose his ideas and policies.
I pity you.
msmartin
She doesn't scare us at all. She insults our intelligence and so does John McCain. Sarah Palin is a religious nut and I don't want her views forced on me or the country. Keep in Alaska where the population is less and there's less of a chance for her to ruin many lives.
She should be keeping a closer eye on her children.
I pity that you are so stupid. No wonder you are a Republican.

Ha ha ha that building looks like it used to be "Mama & Sons Pharmacy," you know, the one with the sit down counter where you could get a root beer float, and all the old people like Martha Jean and Betty Ann and George and old Joe gather 'round every day for a slice of pecan pie before they head out to the Wasilla Piccadilly.
You know John McCain saw Mama & Sons Pharmacy aka City Hall and felt right at home.
