Valid point. I'm not that old either though. I suppose it is all
perspective. When the slurs are directed AT you, your knowledge base

Depending on how old she was, she legitimately might not have caught that one. At least in the North East, I've never actually heard anyone using that term outside of old movies, ad possibly George Carlin routines.

If you have ever watched the movie “Life”(Martin Lawrence) they use the word uppity. And if it wasnt racial why couldnt he use another word. I think what he wanted to say was uppity nigger!!! We need Obama in office just like we need lower gas prices.

I am an American who happens to be Black. I grew up in the segregated south of the 50's, 60's and 70's. The word uppity IS used as a slight against Blacks indicating that an uppity person was one who did not know their place. Trying to be something they're not or if they had achieved some level of success, they somehow had forgotten where they have come from. All one has to do is to look in a mirror and we are reminded who we are. There is NOTHING uppity in trying to be elevate your economic status.

Is John McCain or Sara Palin UPPITY. They are better off today than when they grew up. McCain has much more financial success than Obama. Why are they calling McCain uppity …. because it is used in a derogotory manner towards Sen. Obama.
