Thanks for the thoughtful reply. You may well be right. I nonetheless
think whomever it is, the McCain presidency will be a four-year hitch.
The man is already older than dirt. Thus whom he picks as a running
mate is all the more critical for him and the Country if McCain should
win.

As for his most worthy opponent and an invididual I would not mind at
all seeing as our President, the choice is just as important. Like JFK
48 years ago, Sen. Obama is an exotic figure. JFK was a Catholic (very
big deal back then), from a rich East Coast family while Nixon though
from Calif., was your watcha see is whatcha get "middle Amrica" sort of
guy; at least that was the image his handlers created. Though they
really didn't like each other much, Kennedy knew Johnson on the ticket
would help him carry just enough of the country to make it a
photo-finish and one that historians still debate.

I really hope someone on the Obama campaign staff is reading Theodore
H. White's "The Making of the President - 1960". I was 14 then, an
exciting time to be a kid.

Kind Regards >Dave

McCain won't go with Romney because you don't pick a VP candidate that will outshine the POTUS candidate. That's a disaster waiting to happen.

I think he goes with Pawlenty because of the star quality (non-existant).

Romney's good-looking, young (only in his 50s) and looks too vigorous propped up next to Grandpa McCain; he's also on record as only being married once, still married to his wife, (who has MS, BTW), no record of having cheated on her - his only drawback with the fundie crowd is that he's a Mormon.

That can be overcome, but he just makes McCain LOOK BAD.

Folks I'm here to tell ya. As much as Sens. McCain and Lieberman like each other. McCain doesn't need another old white man on the ticket. He will either pick Pawlenty or Romney. Both are sitting governors of key states, both have faces and families out of Central Casting, both successful men in their own right.

If Sen. Obama is to prevail, he must likewise balance the ticket with a governor, not a senator. Two senators haven't won the White House since Kennedy & Johnson (with Johnson's carrying the South for the penultimate time), and Kennedy with perhaps a little help, carrying Chicago by 120,000 votes. Interestingly Nixon also chose a sitting Senator, Henry Cabbot Lodge. I was around then kids, this I know.

I'd love to see Sen. Obama invite Gov. Sebelius of Kansas onto the ticket. She can effectively neutralize the "Hillary Faction" even if they hoot and holler at the Convention. Secondly, governors know a thing or two about administration. Though Obama's campaign shares next to nothing with the Bush/Cheney administration, it does share this: the choice of Vice President by Sen. Obama will be absolutely critical to the success of his Presidency assuming he wins in Nov.

If McCain chooses either Pawlenty or Romney and Obama chooses Biden or Bayh of Indiana Mc Cain will win. He will serve one term and in 2012 Romney or Pawlenty will run against guess who? That's right, campers Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Regards and Good Day! >Dave246

Type your comment here.
Aaron/Raul, I'm with you. As much as I would love to have Obama as the next President, in my heart I really don't think it will happen. As you can see by the daily press/propaganda and the general population of white folks that are proving more and more that racism is alive and continues to run amok. I agree that the foreign countries do feel they have a better chance if having to deal with a man of color than with another pasty white, power hungry, greater than God, self righteous idiot like McCain.

Lieberman was a terrible pick for the Dems. He really added nothing for Gore except made Florida more competitive (and we know how that turned out). Plus, I'm not sure how GOP voters would feel about him. He'd come across as the ultimate opportunist.

I lost respect for Joe Lieberman when he threw a hissy fit and switched to Independent to run for his seat. He is certainly not the answer to John McCain VP slot. He is pro-choice and I am sure that the Republican Party would suffer a devastating blow if he opts for such a candidate. Besides, to be honest, Joe Lieberman is not the right candidate to fill this position. He's way too "liberal."

www.blackpoliticalthought.com

Byron, I just got back from studying this very subject in the UK and I'm doing a paper on the EU's trade policy with African/Caribbean/Pacific countries compared to the US/Mexico trade policies, and you might have something there in as why they want Obama to win.

Perhaps it's because they feel they can talk to Obama; he's intelligent. I had no clue as to how hated America is until I left and went to England - Gee Shrubya has caused that much damage in global relations around the world.

You might have a point regarding the IMF and the World Bank because they rip off developing countries while saying they're helping and they are screwing them over while saying they help. And the history of colonialism has a good deal to do with that. They might be looking to Obama the same way Africa is looking to China - no colonial history to deal with; a clean slate.

Obama is African-American, but somewhat without the historical baggage that the majority have; they may feel he's a "clean slate" in dealing with them.

I would like to put this thought out ther.Has it ever occured to you that this whole election is just a charade.Putanother way WHY DOES THE MALE DOMINATED EURO CAUCASIAN POWER STRUCTURE WANT THE US TO HAVE A BLACK CANDIDATE AND POSSIBLE PRESIDNT.There are very powerful and extremely intelligent people in the highest levels of global government ,banking, and industry orchestrating the events you see to get the results you see and Obama is right in the thick of it,it is my assertion that he isnt supposed to be elected nor wants to be elected for obvious reasons, however ther is a faction in opposition to the Clinton/Obama power dynamic thats trying to push him into the prsidency,If you think this is some farout conspiracy theory research the COUNCIL OF FOREIGN RELAIONS and checkout its purpose and its members,Power 101 is divide and conquer and thats what you are witnessing.IF THIS AME white power STRUCTURE has put its people in place in AFRICA for years(MUGABE IDI AMIN ETC,what makes you think the United States is different.Ive writtrn about this extenxsively on the JACK AND JILL JESSE JACKSON Sr. thread.Ive been called a hater uncle tom and all that other non thinking termonology,But you can believe Im 100% BLACK and havent forgotten about POWER.By the way did I miss the initiative that Blacks voted on to give the media the rights to call us AFRO AMERICAN.We have many different bloods running through our vanes (CHINESE IN AFRICA INDIAN SPANISH ARAB CAUCASIAN ETC.)Why should we just limit ourselves to 2 continenents when or racial identity spans all 7.Thats why Ill always be Black because thats a state of mind ever vigilent that the white power structure of elitist of all colors wants to keep most people of all colors on the bottom. You think this power structure is a myth of the sixties look up the board member of Fortunr 500 companies ,Upper echelon of military in most countries, central bank members in most countries. This include european that converted to judaism.Ponder these thoughts

I still think Obama will win the election, but seriously, the guy needs to take the kid gloves off and tear into John McCain on the issue of ECONOMIC POPULISM, as people are saying. The McCain campaign says that we're just in a "mental recession" that's all in people's heads? Obama personally, as well as his surrogates, should tear into McCain every single day on that stupid statement, and hit McCain extremely hard. Cite specific examples of people suffering from the tremendous inflation that is making even a single loaf of bread ridiculously expensive, the unemployment, foreclosures. Hit McCain hard, and don't let up!

Likewise, McCain's other stupid statements about 100 years in Iraq (which would bankrupt the USA), and needing $5 million to be rich (of course a Republican would say that). But Obama needs to fight, darn it!

Not only Obama but his surrogates need to be pounding McCain.

Come to think of it, people, WE are Obama's surrogates! Let's write letters to the editor, call into talk shows, slamming McCain about the economy, starting whispering campaigns about his "family credentials" to raise doubt among conservatives (he is divorced, after all, calling his wife a "c**t"), talking about McCain's affairs and other things. With their sleazy attacks on Obama, the McCain campaign has made it clear that this is war, and in a war, you fight hard and you hit your enemy 100 times as hard as they hit you! So let's hit McCain hard!
