Exactly. Which is why these emails came out now instead of, say, February. (Remember Bill suggesting he'd wait till next year before telling us his regrets?)

They give the flamethrowers a sense of credibility and they make Hillary look like a victim.

I see them.

And another thing: America needs you.”

To show his own dedication, Edwards “created a tax-exempt nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty”, reported the New York Times. Except:

The organization, the Center for Promise and Opportunity, raised $1.3 million in 2005, and—unlike a sister charity he created to raise scholarship money for poor students—the main beneficiary of the center’s fund-raising was Mr. Edwards himself, tax filings show…

The organization became a big part of a shadow political apparatus for Mr. Edwards after his defeat as the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2004 and before the start of his presidential bid this time around. Its officers were members of his political staff, and it helped pay for his nearly constant travel, including to early primary states.

While Mr. Edwards said the organization’s purpose was “making the eradication of poverty the cause of this generation,” its federal filings say it financed “retreats and seminars” with foreign policy experts on Iraq and national security issues. Unlike the scholarship charity, donations to it were not tax deductible, and, significantly, it did not have to disclose its donors—as political action committees and other political fund-raising vehicles do—and there were no limits on the size of individual donations.

In other words, the Center may have done some good, but its primary purpose was to serve as a vehicle for Edwards’ political career.

Val, you are a saint. Your parents are truly blessed to have you as a child. I agree with you about some seniors needing help. I think any citizen who needs help should get help. But John McCain makes over $4000,000 a year + his military pension + social security. He also gets free health care financed by our tax dollars and will receive a sweet pension from us yet again due to serving in the senate. I think Ronald Regan collected his Social security as well. If they are rich, they need to pay taxes.

Public school teachers are fighting to repeal windfall provisions that reduce our SS benefits that we have contributed outside of our teaching jobs. They say we can't collect our full amount because it'd "double dipping." We also have to forfeit any SS contributions left to us by a spouse. Teaching is still largely a pink ghetto (female dominated profession). Those of us that don't have a spousal or parental inheritance, or some kind of financial savy or good fortune will be up ship's creek. They started taking SS from me at the age of 12, yet I won't receive full benefits because I became a teacher. But McCain can collect? That is so wrong. He has a rich wife and probrbly doesn't pay for anything. I will have to move to Mexico in order to retire or I will have to off myself. Pathetic, I know. I hope you can deduct your parents as dependants, and I'm glad that your kids have the benefit of being around their grandparents. May God bless you richly for your generous spirit.
