Anyone watching the Warren's Faith Based (debate)?
Warren just asked a GREAT question to McCain- define rich. He of course, talked around it.

My friends,
I wouldn't hire John McCain to sell magazine subcriptions door to door, much less be POTUS. His answers are short, simple and sometimes stupid. I also don't appreciate him using the forum to give his stump speech. I can't wait to watch the MSN gush all over him…..this is disgusting…..

McCain was given the answers to the exam beforehand….and his exam was all mutliple choice and true/false questions. Obama was told to study the entire book….some other books….and he had an essay exam. That's completely fair…isn't it?

I don’t know how to say this more clearly: If John McCain can perform during the three debates the way he is performing tonight with Rick Warren, he will win this election. The contrast between him and Barack Obama (who answered the same questions an hour before him) has really been quite startling. In every case, McCain has answered substantively, directly, and with a surpassing command of detail. Obama talked around most issues; perhaps most oddly, he said Clarence Thomas was the one Supreme Court justice he would not have selected because he hadn’t had enough experience (Thomas had been on the federal bench for a year and a half before he was nominated, which is about as long as Obama was in the Senate before he began seriously considering a run for the presidency). Once again, as was true in his debates with Hillary Clinton, Obama has a problem when matters get down to specifics and his rival is better prepared and more comfortable with them than he is.

Oh please, they aren't even feeling McCain on FOX Noise right now. He gave the multiple choice, true/false answers while Obama gave the thought-provoking responses. If you can't see that, well….what am I saying…you aren't capable of seeing that. Now run back and tell your superiors for the umpteenth time “CURSES!! FOILED AGAIN!!”

I certainly do disagree with John McCain on some big issues, but tonight he was outstanding in ways Barack Obama is not and cannot be. McCain has a seriousness and confidence Obama doesn't. In large part, because Obama simply doesn't have the experience …. Score it a big McCain night.

I hate to say this but this format suits John McCain to a “T”. Miranda hit the nail over the head. Essay questions are for people whom want to think about things, are comfortable thinking about what they believe and introspective. The people Obama has to win more of are looking for simple answers and see the world that is in front of them as a black and white struggle to survive. John McCain is the same type of person.
The fact that he could put behind him the Edwards issue by admitting and asking for forgiveness about his first wife was case in point. “I did it forgive me.”
That said his answers were so prepared and fluid I am of the opinion he knew the questions before hand. I have never seen John McCain so comfortable w/ ethical issues under television lights in my life.

Any if you don't see the importance of having a role model that embodies difference in the multiple ways: poor, multiracial (let's not forget that- though white people hate talking about he's white too,) transnational, self-made and not from old money, thoughtful, nuanced, WISE…
All those things that anyone in the field, including Hillary didn't have.
One more thing: just cause you have experience (and I'm NOT conceding to the point that he is inexperienced- cuz he isn't) doesn't mean that you are good at what you do. IE: George Bush had direct experience in being President and he was MUCH worse the second time around.

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Michael Ferschke Jr., a Maryville native, was killed Sunday in Iraq.
Ferschke's parents and family were informed Sunday that he had been fatally shot while conducting a house-to-house search, although his exact location in Iraq was not immediately known, according to close family friend Doug Cooper.
Ferschke, 22, enlisted immediately after graduating from Maryville High School in 2003. He had been deployed to Iraq since March from his station in Okinawa, Japan, where he left a newlywed, pregnant wife, Cooper said.
“He was only married exactly one month to the day before he was killed,” Cooper said. “He joined the Marine Corps because that's what he believed in. He had the chance to (be discharged) and he said no. He wanted to go to Iraq. He was very, very proud to be a Marine.
“He (also) was a very loving uncle to his five nieces and nephews, just a very outstanding young man.”
And now he's a memory………for what?

I know that it is difficult to hear that McCain could actually win the election. His performance tonight will do much to solidify support among his base and as Rob M astutely points out among, “The people (who)… see the world that is in front of them as a black and white struggle to survive. “

The experience gap was in full view tonight. OBAMA SAID CLARENCE THOMAS DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO SERVE ON THE COURT: Kinda ironic, huh?

Just wanted to say that Obama's response regarding Clarence Thomas was:
“I don't think that he was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation. Setting aside the fact that I profoundly disagree with his interpretations of a lot of the constitution.”
Received much applause. Maybe some people agree.

I disagree that these were the people he needed to win over. The people he has to win over, the independents, were won over. They don't want the simple black and white answers at all. For goodness sakes, women independents who were looking to see McCain's response to choice were met with a lightening bolt…guess what? Your uterus is public domain. No, Obama came out fine. Obama is banking on new voters…and NOBODY is registering for the first time inspired to vote for John McCain….not unless money and a ransom note are involved.

Did anyone else see him DUST that field? It was like they were standing still. He broke the world record AFTER he began pulling back with 15 meters to go. It was stunning.

Umm….correct me if I am wrong here. I read in a comments section that the 4 Supreme Court Justices that McCain said he would not nominate, he actually voted yea…

Didn't catch Phelps' last event….but I did see Bolt. I don't think he gave anywhere near what he's capable of.
As for O…I think he did good. He won't win over the Evangelicals….they are opposite to what O stands for. McCain could barely restrain himself for talking about the justices. He made it clear that his would be an anti-choice Presidency and he has every intention of stacking the supreme court.
That pastor what's his name was more argumentative and challenging with O. He probed more…whereas he sat passively while McCain did a stump speech.

Well I admire her achievement but she's a wealthy woman who had a team of trainers, nutritionists, nannies, etc and private sponsorship. With all of that help she should have won something.

Bolt was moving at jaguar speed, that was incredible. Phelps is the greatest swimmer ever, even with the suits designed by NASA (wow). Its been a great show at the games but I won't give Phelps the Greatest Olympian ever title like ESPN is all gong-ho to do. That title remains with Jesse Owens.

I agree w/ you women independents, including Lady HAHA, could have found little comfort w/ McCain's answers. The black and white crowd outnumbers independents and they need to be peeled off or at least kept at home. Obama is perfectly capable of keeping things simple and then giving a nuanced response; i.e., giving a federal gas tax holiday.

I was just having this conversation this mornng with my Mom and Stepfather.
McCain obviously had the questions or taling points in advance.
I mean come on, when does he ever to respond to questions so QUICKLY, succintly, and hell without hearing the questions completely?!
I noticed a couple of sneaky things too, like how he threw in the name of his church randomly, or the unrelated union issue of secret ballots. Also, at the end (I am going to have to watch it again), but did he not say something to the effect of although “African-Americans may not support him, he will still be the president for all of America”?
I might post this in the Sunday thread if you guys are talking about over there. I did not watch the debate until around midnight last night.

Sen. Mccain did well. I will give you that and only that. Unfortunately, for Sen Obama he is a well thought and open minded person. That trait does not come off well when simple people (most people) want you to choose a side. It is a strength to me.
