For all the ID laws, the postmodern poll tax, you don't need to present proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. You must attest to your citizenship status but you don't have to prove it.

And yet, citizens are still disenfranchised over some bullshit.

Interestingly, this is what the Alberto Gonzalez federal prosecutor scandal was all about; namely, trumped-up charges of voter fraud. Gonzalez, at Rove's urging, fires the prosecutors that don't go along with the directive to prosecute these trumped-up cases. Even the prosecuted cases turn out to be nothing but utter nonsense.

Thing is, though, half the issue here is that these Republican plans get publicized (and hell, Greg Palast has been talking about 2008 plans since 2004) yet the Democratic Party does little or next to nothing other than be “shocked and appalled, yet plead for calm.”

Some states allow them, others do not. Its hard to have a national dialogue about how poor people are disenfranchised when the issues are so nuanced by state.

This is funny… very funny. Honestly do you think you are eligible to vote in your district? I have a friend going to school in NYC thats from NC and dose not plan on staying however is voting as a NYS resident in our election… now seeing that NC is the swing state I wonder would she vote in both states or do the right thing and just vote in one… and she is a Democrat.

Anovelista: 1. I worked at the polls for the first time this year. A friend of mine told the County to contact me because she has done it for the past 2 years!

2. Now when I told my children that I worked the polls, they were about to disown me for INDECENT EXPOSURE!! Boy, those HOMONYMS can get you into TROUBLE! :>) :>) :>)
