They're going to keep her out of sight until he is elected President. Bush & Karl Rove racebaited McCain in 2000 in SC by spreading rumors that the Banglideshi daughter was his illegitimate black daughter they adopted to cover up the illegitimacy.

And it's a Karl Rove trick to attack the opponent's strength and turn it into a weakness. He's popular and charismatic? Turn that into a bad thing; he's a "messiah," he's a cult leader.

He went to school and doesn't talk like he's a refugee from a rap video? Turn that into a bad thing: He's talking white, he's trying to be white.

He's thin and trim and eats healthy foods? He's too skinny to relate to fat America, he's elitist because he eats healthy foods.

He goes to church and is reaching out to evangelicals? He goes to a radical, racist black church. He's the brown anti-christ from the East the Bible warned your about.

Maurice: Co-signing on all points! And, I have not seen the "adopted, non-white daughter . . ." YET! So much for pride in that decision to adopt!

So where does the concept of (his) Affirmative Action (daughter) fit into this discussion?? :>) :>)

I'm just asking . . . .

Who is advising the McCain campaign and his advertising strategies?
What idiots! Since when is being "charismatic" and popular a negative? What marketing idiot would try to turn a positive into a negative against a charismatic, popular political opponent 25 years younger? Why Paris or Britney? An ex-con and an individual with a series of bizarre behaviour. Is this showing respect to his political opponent? Kudos to Paris with her response!
Obama should counter-attack him with the same ad showing that unlike Senator McCain's philosophy, young people should not let their youth and relative inexperience stand between them and their dreams especially when job-hunting. Drive up the young people vote and Let him pay for this by alienating himself further from the "young people vote."
McCain is clearly playing the "Age" card from the bottom of the deck up while his campaign resist any reference to his age. He CANNOT have it both ways. By the way, isn't experience a factor of being older? what's up with the experience argument anyway? Twenty five years? Wouldn't it be sad if Barack had more experience?
With subtle race-baiting coming out of the McCain camp, anyone notice how he and Cindy constantly display their blonde daughter Megan but hides their adopted non-white daughter from Bangladesh?
Is this a coincidence or a deliberate action? Disgusting!

Disgusting!

the first ad you linked is the kind of ad Barack's campaign needs to produce. It takes from McCain's campaign insignia and attacks his supposed strength. Barack's people don't have to go gutter to do the same thing.

Attack McCain's "strength" on foreign policy, patriotism, and veterans affairs.

this a pro-McCain ad is this. First, of course, Paris Hilton is promoting herself, as she always does. She exploited the opportunity that the McCain ad gave her, as she exploits every opportunity. That's very free-market capitalistic of her, but that's not my big reason. McCain's ad presented her as an airhead (for the purpose of suggesting that Obama is also an airhead), so here she is suddenly being very smart. Her ad has her saying something that we are supposed to accept as exactly what a very smart person would say if they weren't limited by constraints of party politics. She presents her answer on oil as a "hybrid" of the 2 candidates' positions, but listen to it! It's McCain's position. She supports off-shore drilling, with appropriate environmental safeguards, as we encourage the development of alternative energy sources.

That's McCain's position! Secret message of the ad: The smart position is McCain's position and not Obama's.

Now, you might want to say that all that funny stuff at the beginning about McCain's age is anti-McCain. No, it's not! It's McCain's position. McCain is constantly making jokes about how old he is. How many times has he said "I'm older than dirt and more scarred than Frankenstein"?

Finally, Hilton is giving the "biggest celebrity" ad another big boost. That ad has already worked, but it was coming to the end of it's life cycle. Hilton jolted it back alive.

Let me suggest an ad or an approach to doing an ad or series of ads that Obama could use. I don't expect the Obama campaign or anyone here to take my advice but here's my shot:

One of the persistent, if not overarching, themes of this presidential campaign is that folks don't know Obama. Obama and his advisors have nearly chewed their foreheads in trying to figure out how to get through, over or around this perception.

What they need to do, in my opinion, is to stop treating this problem so seriously and look at it as an opportunity to draw some contrasts between Obama and McCain. One approach they might take is to do a series of ads featuring Obama, sans suit and tie, encountering ordinary people as he goes about his daily business, not as a candidate, but as he, e.g., shops for groceries, visits the post office, waits for his kids as they get out of school or takes them for dental visits etc.

The thrust of the ads is that Obama seems vaguely familiar to these people but they can't quite place where they know him from. Did he go school with them or one of their kids? Have they seen him at a school or community event? Was he sitting across the room from them the other day at the dentist's office etc?

The point is that the ads have to be humorous and play, in an ironic way, against the theme that someone would not recognize Obama.
