In addition, the former Republican House Speaker of Alaska, Gail Phillips, admitted to reporters that she was shocked by McCain's choice of Palin, as “his advance team didn't come to Alaska to check her out.”

Even McCain's own aides seemed unprepared by the choice. . . . Spokeswoman Nancy Pfotenhauer [said,] “You're running flat into the wall of my ignorance here. . . . I truly have no indication whatsoever the extent of a relationship that exists with the Governor of Alaska.”

This entire thing sickens me. I know, as a Democrat, I should be gleeful that this may doom the McCain campaign, but really, I am disgusted and offended that McCain would treat selecting a VP so lightly. He could drop dead at any moment, and we would have as our president someone who just this year didn't even know what a VP did, is under investigation for abuse of power, has no experience on national issues like the economy, healthcare, national security, or foreign policy, and has not been vetted in any sense of the word, either through a rigorous investigation or through 20 months of campaigning (like Barack).

This is awful. It's insulting that John McCain would be asking us to put the nation's future in the hands of this woman.

My fear is that people will spend so much time groaning about her inexperience as a way of pointing out McCain's hypocrisy that they will get off-message. Getting into a “whose inexperience is worse?” pissing match ultimately helps McCain/Palin by giving her unwarranted play.

The gift of the Palin selection ISN'T that she exposes McCain as a cynical politician. Even the wack jobs on the religious right who are going to vote for McCain know that. No, Palin's inexperience takes the experience issue off the table for Obama and allows the remainder of the election to be played on Obama's terms–ideas and worldview. Who is Sarah Palin? Nobody. What she represents is the same old tired crap. That's the brush she needs to be painted with.

I've been saying, FINALLY, Palin is being VETTED – in the media/blogosphere!! :>) :>)
