American citizens were attacked (and I believe killed) in China.

The little boy that was walking with Yoa Ming is 9 years old and an earthquake survivior. He lost 20 of his classmates in the quake; it was a class of 30. However, this little boy was able to save 3 of his classmates. When he was asked why did he do it? He said it was my responsibility, I'm hall monitor.

What a wonderful perfect response. Children can be so perfect in their innocence.
Title: U.S. Flagbearer Lomong Has Amazing Story of Personal Triumph
Good for him! :>) :>)
Hey! I just heard Kobe Bryant ask an athlete - "How do you say thank you!" :>) :>)
I appreciate that gesture!! :>) :>)

On the political scene again: Interesting how they're mentioning the countries who have female participants for the FIRST time and those who will NOT let females participate!
See, my awareness level was not here B4 JJP!! :>) :>) :>)
GreenLadyHere
Interesting color commentarying[is that a word ?] They are discussing the "political" aspects of the countries!

Hey! Hey! Hey! Nigerian's had a little "pep in they step"! Cute! :>) :>)
Niger had 1 athlete! Major props for representin' :>) :>)
You basically had the last word. "You don't offend your banker." Patriotism goes out the door. Darfur, swallowed up in that statement. You should try to get some pundit to relay that statement (without claiming it as their own).
GreenLadyHere
You know - I'm getting a little GEOGRAPHY LESSON up in here! I didn't know some of these countries existed!
Guess I better get a new world globe. My 19_ _ one must be a little out of date!!! Huh?? :>) :>) :>)

McCain ran his negative attack ad tonight, in certain swing states. Did you guys see it?
Seems like it would be a buzzkill among the one world message.
Now that people are saying Barack is "overexposed" (thanks to the unnecessarily long primary that Miss Hillary put him through) you can rest assured the GOP will pretty much ONLY make ads about Barack in order to keep him saturating the airwaves.
I can't wait till Barack's "Hands" ad airs because it's not about him at all.
It's about the country and our future.

Texas: You know what I'm thinking, "McAncient's" ads keep showing Mr. Obama so much, and in big crowds, some of his followers might think that he is advertizing FOR Mr. Obama! Especially, since he has FLIP-FLOPPED so much! :>) :>)
This might be a GOOD THING! :>) :>)

I love the guy faking running around the stadium. But, still, the best Torch Lighting is from Barcelona, when that archer shot the flaming arrow - nothing has topped it.
The fireworks display though, has kicked serious butt.
I missed the archer shot. I heard it was otherworldly.

The opening ceremony was amazing. I've never seen anything like it before. All the dancers, the lights, and the fireworks. It was all so much. The drummers were great. It was so many performers. I looked at my husband and said, "Well damn, it looks like they have the whole city of Beijing out there!!"
AnthonyMason
Too bad you wont hear about the slave labor camps, China's bankrolling of the genocidal regime in Darfur, the treatment of political dissidents, lack of freedom of the press and also religious freedom (for Christians, Buddhists, and those who practice Falum Gong)...Isnt it funny that if you were in china you wouldnt even be able to access www.jackandjillpolitics.com? Ah, but's all good and dandy! At least you the world got to see the fireworks, the dancers, and the light.
pcal
I actually checked this site regularly while I was in Beijing last month. There are so many factual reasons to call out the PRC government, there's no reason to invent one.

Sounds like I just did. You can take your snarky ass comment and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
Miranda
You're absolutely right...but we can give the athletes this moment and we can admire the beauty of the ceremonies on a purely asthetic level...tomorrow and the next day and the day after that, we can go back to the reality of what lies underneath...but now, lets just be okay with this moment.
It is what it is. It needs to change, to be sure. But what can you do?
AnthonyMason
Lots of things you can do. The simplest and easiest would be to boycott the damn thing. The second, and this may require for someone to actually get out of the comfortability of their couches, would be to go and join in solidarity with the people Tibet, or the Falum Gong and/or Christians that are denied their freedom to worship.
This olympics have brought to mind John Carlos and tommy smith's at the 72 games. Talk about courage! Where the present-day Muhammad Ali? The Smiths and Carlos? How come blck athletes (and I'm only singling them out because they're the ones dominating the major sports , track, b-ball and what not)....why wont they take a stand for human rights? And even if you cant relate to the plight of those suffering in China, how about Darfur? After all, no one cant say they dont know about China's role in the genocide of African people.
Screw it. Go back to watching the games.

Well, hop to it. You're sitting on your ass typing about it just like the rest of us.
I don't believe in boycotting the Olympics as a nation. Athletes may refuse to participate if they choose to and while politics and the Olympics have certainly played off of each other in the past, I wish politics can be separate from this particular sporting event.

They're walking in right now. Ralph Lauren designed the uniform. Makes so much sense..the design..LOL
Am I seeing things, or are Dubya and Putin sitting on the same row?
msmartin
China's uniforms look so much better than ours. How is it that Yow Ming is able to carry their flag?
GreenLadyHere
msmartin: Who do you think is gonna step to him and say that he cain't carry anything???? He could carry that torch AND the flame bowl if he want to!! :>) :>) LOL
rikyrah
Yow hasn't immigrated. He's still a Chinese citizen, and the most famous export to the USA.
rikyrah
Putin is there...Putin don't play. They say Putin and Dubya discussed Georgia at the Olympics.
Sarkozy is also there, but I don't see his model wife.
nickwah22
I hope G Dubya doesn't go and show his ass when the US comes out. I can see it now..
