This is the same guy they brought out to bash Reverend Wright months ago. How could you have missed him. He was dissing and discussing how Obama could belong to such a racists church. At that time, they tounted him as a minister.

caligirl
the few times i've seen him on msnbc he seemed okay. he wasn't rabidly spouting the party line... oh well.
I used to listen to J. Watkins (weekends @ Philly AM). Back then he was charming, reasonable, sane and lucid. His money must be real tight. Folks will do anything for some dough. Scary.
"Race war?" And he calls himself a pastor of a church too? Phew.
His argument in essence is: Obama shouldn't mention he's black, because saying he's black is a race card.
The Repubs are hammering Obama, so he can never point out their race baiting, or other ridiculousness like lying about him. With this particular candidate, I doubt the effectiveness of this strategy, despite a recent poll putting McCain ahead. The GOP race baits in nearly every election. It is their M.O.
Ever since McCain's people let this cat out of the bag, he's been dodging reporters. He shouldn't worry, most of them are on his side.
OK this blog has SO become a part of my daily life. For some unknown reason, last week I couldn't open ANY of the comments, the blog was acting really weird for me, it just kept refreshing and refreshing itself. I thought I was gonna break out in hives, a sista was going through SERIOUS withdrawal not being able to read or post comments! But all is well now, whatever kink that was worked itself out, whew!
That being said, Miranda has me over here choking on my coffee with her spoon & banjo rendition of Look Away Dixie, or whatever that song is called, LOLLL!!! It's sooooooo appropriate, where in the WORLD do they find these coon ass niggas????!!! Yeah, I said it....

I've been having the same problem with this site. I think I am picking up spyware from Dkos

I really can't watch dude. Its amazing to me that Obama gets accused of starting a race war, when the media gives McCain a pass on all his tactics. Not just the celebrity ads, but the ad for Latino voters. People think that this stuff is benign, but it isn't. McCain is trying to bring up wedge issues to get an advantage, so anybody who tells me that he is not doing subtle race baiting must be crazy.

To Joe Watkins and all those of his ilk: (cue Banjos and spoons)

This guy has made some "ok" points in the past, but not very often. He is basically a standard Republican shill, and MSNBC loves to put him on as one the "black" faces against Obama, similar to Tara Wall on CNN (who tries her hardest to spin everything Obama does) and that Jesse Lee Peterson guy who goes on Fox News who is just awful. This whole "race war" thing, however, makes me question why Watkins is on the air. Its one thing to air talking points, but that comment is just dumb, considering Obama is a PRESIDENTIAL candidate in the United States, is biracial, and has spent his entire life trying to forge relationships among different groups. The Republicans and the right-wing smear machine are so desperate its sad--and its laughable that Wakins says that McCain's campaign is "positive" and "upbeat". Obama is talking about the economy and health care, and McCain is obsessed with what Obama eats in the morning, Ludaris, and a tacky Paris Hilton comparison. How come NO one is mentioning McCain's involvement with the huge Keating Five scandal? Its like the media is afraid of mentioning it...but I hope a 527 brings it up, because McCain is not as ethical as he pretends to be, and he lacks class.
Back to Wakins...he needs to go back to his congregation and stop talking about race wars and other utter nonsense.
Chalk him up as sharing the same fate as the CBC members who supported Hillary while she was trying to race-bait her way to the nomination.

Jack: A couple of days ago, I posted a comment ,while trying to diss "MCANCIENT", about the Rev. and his "partner in the "house" Tara Wall. Ya see, they have moved from the "FIELD" and they believe that they have arrived!! :>) :>)
What is the deal with all these shameless Black Contrarians blathering on and on about this election...first it was Amy Holmes and Ron Christie and Deroy Murdock and now Tara Wall is on TV erry day.
check their bank accounts. They're not being sell outs for free.
As for Joe Watkins...a McCain Supporter.
Stop right there.
GreenLadyHere
Inkgnegro: Your guess is as good as mine - O.K. "House" must be better than "Field" for them. [No disrepect to "FIELD NEGRO's" site. I enjoy it.]
Maybe there is a "House Gene"?? Tubbs-Jones/Jackson Lee have been endowed.
But, in all fairness, a read of their records shows that they have performed well in many cases for their constituencies. So it must have been the promises of the "Benjamins" or some political "reward" from billary!
What do I know? :>) :>) :>)

The subject came up when HR Resolution 194 passed and it was mentioned that reparations wasn't included. The fact that there was little to no media coverage regarding the resolution came up as well.
Joe Watkins is the Director of Hill Solutions, LLC a firm that consults the government and businesses on how to do business. Before entering the financial services industry, he ran his own strategic advisory consulting firm in Philadelphia. He opened the firm in 1991 after serving as associate director in the Office of Public Liaison at the White House under President George H. W. Bush. Joe was introduced to politics in 1981 when he joined the staff of newly elected U.S. Senator Dan Quayle as the Assistant State Director. In 1984, he was tapped to run for the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana's 10th congressional district but was defeated in the general election by the incumbent. He returned to Pennsylvania and served as an assistant to the President of the University of Pennsylvania until his enlistment in the 1988 Bush Campaign and his subsequent transition to the Bush White House.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from the Princeton Theological Seminary. Joe and his wife have lived in the city of Philadelphia for 30 years. They have three children and 2 grandchildren and yes his picture is recent. Joe serves on numerous boards including the Middlesex School Board of Trustees, the Lankenau Hospital Board, the Eastern Technology Council, and Youth Inc.
Dude is pastor of a Lutheran Church in Philly and also has (had?) a talk radio spot In Philly on the weekends.
a Emptier suit I have never seen.

According to Deoliver's April 25, 2008 Daily Kos post , more details about Joe Watkins church: Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church Synod: Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church 3008 W Diamond St Philadelphia, PA 19121 Phone: (215) 235-7542 Pastor(s) and Called Lay Staff Membership: Baptized 90 Confirmed 70 Average Attendance 85
Clearly Joe Watkins has a "huge" following; his work with Dan Quayle qualifies him as a tv pundit.

It is a shame that both John McSame and Booker T. Obama support the expansion of offshore drilling, nuclear power, and liquid coal. We might have had a real debate on the issues.
Not wholly accurate. Obama supports the possibility of drilling on lands already designated for drilling, and McCain wants to ignore what we already have to drill in even more locations. Nuance, perhaps, but an important distinction. As for nuclear power, Obama's supported it in Illinois, but hasn't committed 100% to doing so as President. As for liquid coal - I don't know as much about that issue, so if that's true, that's not good. But it's the dent in the Rolls Royce, people. At the end of the day, it's about November 4, and picking one of these two cats to be President. Who would you rather see in there, warts and all?
LL
I DON'T have to vote for any one of these two guys and nuance is John Kerry's French word for triangulation.
Instead of all the woe is Obama, woe is us, as we're holding our heads and moaning, in spite of the positives outweighing the negatives for Obama and his supporters in this campaign, let's fight fire with fire . . . McCain's dubious doings in the Asian country of Kyrgyz.
Despite all the experts who have pored over McCain's financial disclosure statements, it seems far too little attention was paid to a very small detail: John McCain's position as chairman of the "Supervisory Committee" of an organization called the Media Support Center Foundation (MSCF).
The MSCF operates a printing company in the Republic of Kyrgyz in Central Asia - a nation tucked between China, Tajikistan (which borders Afghanistan), Kazakstan and Uzbekistan.
The tiny "Stan" nation of Kyrgyz, located in the heart of a region rich in oil and natural gas deposits and under the shadow of giants Russia and China, has recently been in the news in relation to another matter connected to the McCain campaign...
On page 19 of a financial disclosure report filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics on May 15, buried in the small print under the category heading "Positions Held Outside U.S. Government," McCain discloses that he serves as "Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Media Support Center Foundation (MSCF), Kyrgyz Republic - "a nonprofit printing press." According to that report, McCain served in that position from April 2003 until the "present."
Did McCain support, or even help, to orchestrate Akayev's overthrow in 2005 as part of some Freedom House agenda (that might have even entailed kissing up to Islamic radicals to accomplish those ends), or did he support the dictator and his oppressive rule?
If it is the former, why was Akayev replaced with leaders of seemingly equal authoritarian leanings and why are people now connected to McCain's campaign involved in a quid-pro-quo deal that would only serve to rehabilitate Akayev's image?
If it is the latter, that certainly does not demonstrate consistent foreign policy judgment, either - given that one of the reasons for McCain's support of the Iraq war was to topple a dictator and to help spread democracy.
That seems to be a Catch 22 that leads right back to the old politics of the Cold War.
This is damaging and needs to be pushed by Obama's far-reaching netroots nation. Digg it, Stumble it, etc. etc. Spreading the word and attempting to gain traction with this story is far more rewarding than bashing black WcCain supporters.

This is off topic, and I've been trying to go through the week's posts, but give me the shorthand version.
How the HELL did REPARATIONS enter the political conversation this week? How did that even happen?
TRW
I have no clue. To me at least, it seems to have come out of nowhere. But, I think it became a topic of discussion once Rep. Cohen sought the apology for slavery.

Rikyrah: I don't know, BUT I didn't do it. Sooo, I don't have ta sit in the "Bad Chair", do I? :>) :>) :>)
Welcome back, rikyrah. Hope you had an excellent holiday.
Sorry, I can't answer. All I know is yesterday when I came online there was a diary about it and all hell had broken loose.

I've been on vacation, so I'm looking at a lot of this material for the first time. But, I'm having my doubts about the Black heckler. They've been trying for awhile to dampen the enthusiasm of the Black community towards Obama. How else do you explain folks bringing up REPARATIONS.
REPARATIONS?
WTF?
This is a loser. Black folks can't even get an apology for slavery(and yeah, I read the Cohen post - color me skeptical about that TOO), and folks want to bring up REPARATIONS? That was a planted question if ever I heard one.
Everything is set-up... (*shakes head and walks away*)
The Reparations question was posed at the UNITY convention and was asked in the context of an apology to Native Americans.
There's an entry over at Too Sense on the subject ("Obama On Reparations, Affirmative Action")with the videos and how his answer on the Native American question lead into the Reparations question.
Oh but maybe the immigration question that followed it was "planted" lol
