Ah...I think I'm starting to see O's plan. In addition to being "over-housed", Romney has put people out of work in his "venture capital" business. Between Romney and McCain, there's $40 million in real estate....at a time when Americans are losing the one roof they have over their heads. Romney also personally funded much of his nomination bid. The idea you can virtually "buy" a nomination and not need people to fund you, while saying Barack - who is funded by 2 million people - is not "ready"....

I am on the same page as you. I'm startng to see Obama's plan as well. This election is equivalent to the game of Chess. Obama is making strategic moves and decisions on choosing Biden as the VP. Sen. Biden has strong grass roots. If we recall Obama has built a strong grassroots campaign, back in the beginning during the primaries.

Yeah, those sure are some strong grassroots that Biden has...strong enough for him to drop out of the primaries after Iowa.

Well I guess we'll see how much it will carry Obama. I must give it to Obama. He did make a smart move with trying to address my ability to reach out to blue-collar white men in PA and OH. As the campaign continues we will see where this goes from here.

I hope your correct, I know for me, I'm probably going to set this election out. As an independent, I have some strong conservative/liberal views that I really don't see any of the candidates addressing. All this negative campaigning is really beginning to turn me off.

That's not my favourite dress either. The cool colours are perfect for her, but the scale of the print was too big. The flared skirt is not the best bet either, and I think she should have some heel on her shoe. Then again, imperfection sometimes has it's charm.

Biden helped tell Obama's narrative in a way that relates to the working class..something Obama is going to need to bone up on, and laser focus on. He needs to talk about his momma more, being on food stamps needs to be said at every stump speech, knowing how hard it was to make ends meet, talk about his Gramps talking to him at their kitchen table and how he had to work hard to earn scholarships to go to college and just paid off his student loans.

O man has to break his story down to the common man in their language and Biden showed him how to talk about working class values of struggling, fighting and overcoming obstacles to achieve goals and take care of one's family.

This is a winning narrative and the blue collar folks are going to IDENTIFY with it.

It is celebrating what it is to be American when you talk about those struggles and those are the dreams as well of the middle class and especially the working class. They work hard so that their children and grandchildren can succeed. The inital reaction was that the Repigs were disappointed that Biden was choosen according to MSNBC last night when the first news broke. Afterwards McCain started bellyaching about Biden's comments about Obama's "experience". Nothing but hot air. I am happy that Biden was choosen and never thought he would be. I am still voting for Obama and happy with his choice in Biden. I like his fight and his credible experience. Let's just hope Biden sticks to the script!

What struck me as Obama and Biden were talking in Springfield this afternoon was that these are two men who exemplify the American dream. They are people whose stories are only possible in this country. Obama's said that about himself and it is especially true with him, perhaps, but Biden, too, is "one of us."

It is a continual source of amazement to me how the Republican party ~ the party of the white and of the rich ~ manages to buffalo the American people into believing they're the party of the common man, while the democrats, with all of the party's flaws, are portrayed as elitist snobs and intellectuals.

Well let's look at the ticket: We have McCain, born with a couple of silver spoons in his mouth, whose way was greased by family connections, money, power and influence, and whose life has been an easy ride since he was released from that prison.

Lord knows who he'll pick as his running mate, but what always disgusted me about watching that crew of rethug candidates in the debate was how very white and how very rich they all were. I don't mean rich now ~ no one runs for president without being pretty well heeled ~ I mean rich rich. Not self made rich. Privileged rich.

I have donated more than I ever thought I would to a candidate, and now, I have to determine how else I can help (currently BROKE and will be for the next who-knows-how-long. Thanks, President Bush!). I went door-to-door for Kerry on the day of the election, even though I was pretty tepid about Kerry at first (he won me over at the convention). Obama's campaign asked us "armchair supporters" to call people on the days before primaries, but I hate making phone calls more than anything. I hate RECEIVING those horrible calls, including rob-calls, and there is no way I'm going to subject my fellow Americans to such annoyances. My state is pretty solidly Blue, so maybe I will have to travel to help. I'll have to investigate my options.

I'm not thrilled about Biden, but he's the attack dog that Obama needs, and he's not married to Bill Clinton.

The bs from the MSM this week when Obama jumped on John "7+ Houses" McCain gaffe was that Obama said nothing about the economy when the very point of Obama's ads and the speech they clipped from was all about McCain being OUT OF TOUCH with the reality of the American economy and its impact on ordinary Americans. For weeks Obama talked specifically about his economic plan which was why McCain came up with the bogus ads that Obama was going to raise taxes on people making $42K.

That voters haven't had much to add to their "understanding of the candidate" has (1) a lot to do with the MSM's issues with avoiding substance and penchant for showing voters catchy soundbites vs. the essence of specific policy proposals and (2) those voters being willfully ignorant.

As far as trying to change Washington... Biden reminded you that Obama's ethics reform legislation was every bit of that. So now what's your excuse?

It is easy to blame the media and voters for Obama's obfuscation and varying positions on a wide variety of issues but it does not help to voters to learn more.

Obama will raise taxes and his policies will not make it easier to own a home, save for college or retirement. Entrepreneurs and charitable organizations who depend on the 'discretionary' income of higher wage earners will lose income and jobs and for what, a one-time $1000.00 tax cut. That's right, a family earning $250,000 will pay an additional $20,000 in taxes and all of that income will no longer go to the enterprising men and women who hope attract and retain the business of higher wage earners.

Populist platitudes and class warfare do nothing to help the self-employed math tutor, childcare provider or landscaper who has been 'let go' or the privately funded homeless shelter that won't be getting a donation this year because their employers have to send that income to the wasteful, oversized, federal government.

Raising the capital gains tax will punish those very same middle income earners who are seeking to break into the 'investor class' by investing the income in a money market or mutual fund to save for college or retirement, a new car or home.

I don't care how many homes McCain has as long as his tax policies will provide an opportunity for me to achieve financial independence.

You cannot make many people better off by making a few worse off. Obama's policies will make it harder for middle class Americans to accumulate more wealth.

Corporate tax rates in the USA are the highest in the world and is a major reason businesses have gone overseas. That means lost jobs.

1. Bush ran against eight years of bad judgment and personality failures of the previous administration. Obama is doing the same.

2. Bush ran as the one who could transcend partisan differences in Washington. So is Obama.

3. Bush faced concerns about his misspent youth. So has Obama.

4. Bush was believed to have done hard drugs. Obama has admitted it.

5. Bush picked Dick Cheney to reassure voters about experience on the ticket and foreign policy gravitas. What do you suppose Obama just did?

Support ANY MEANS POSSIBLE, including domestic drilling and nuclear power, to free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil while developing alternative sources. Adopt a secure our borders first policy re: immigration.

These are moderate positions, centrist positions.

If he can do that. He will prove he is ready. Picking Biden doesn't prove a thing.

S, it sounds like, for YOUR definition of "moderate" or "centrist" it means adopting McCain's policy viewpoints. Instead of criticizing Obama for not being McCain, why don't you take a step back.

1) To surge or not to surge was an important question that a lot of people had doubts about. And while you are loathe to admit it, Obama's whole point is that we shouldn't have been there in the first place. He listed several reasons why it was a bad idea, and low and behold, it predicted the ramifications of that decision to a T. But for some, that's not enough. Obama must agree with this conservative talking point about the "surge" when there were other considerations at play.

2) Abortion. You just stated Obama's position.

3) Everybody doesn't agree with the effectiveness of school choice. I think it is a viable option, but I am not going to shout down someone else who thinks differently.

4) Domestic drilling. Although several experts have openly acknowledged that domestic drilling will NOT be the solution that people are hoping for, Obama has stated his willingness to back the measure that is being worked on right now that has both drilling and alternative energy.

Why am I even going through the list. The truth of the matter is, Obama is not going to be all things to everybody. He is not going to be as progressive as some Democrats want, and he is not going to be as conservative as Republicans would want. I can reconcile those two things.

I am speaking about issue that are important to me and how I would like to see them addressed. If McCain is closer to my views, then perhaps he is the more moderate candidate.

You have stated your views, not Obama's. His positions on the issues I stated above are vague at best.

1) The surge worked--this is not a moderate/centrist talking point. This is a McCain talking point since he want to take credit for the effectiveness of the surge.

2) The Protect Infants Act--actually, I'm not sure of McCain's views on abortion. It seems to change based on the election year. Way back when, he advocated for an exception to abortion for rape and incest, now he doesn't. Way back when, he said that Roe v. Wade was the law of the land and he wouldn't attempt to overturn it, now he is saying he would attempt to overturn by appointing conservative judges. And I am pretty sure that he would have voted for the Protect America Act.

3) School choice. Again, this is something that conservatives have been pushing for some time now.

4) Domestic drilling. Just a couple of months ago, McCain opposed off shore drilling--now I'm sorry, he said that it was a State's issue. Now he is all for it.

My point is--just because you agree with McCain's views, does not mean that he is a moderate--you have created a subjective definition for what moderate and centrist mean. I was looking for a more objective criteria that other candidates could be measured by.

Yeah, he announced his VP pick today and there is simply no evidence that it resonated with anyone. After 20 hours, that's a clear sign that the Biden pick is a bust. (snort)

Look let's call this exactly what it is. Initially, I was skeptical of the entire Obama/Biden ticket. However, after listening to Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden to tie Sen. McCain to President Bush is a strong case for the Democrats to make. Especially with Sen. Biden going on the attack and Sen. Obama staying above the fray. I'm sure the conservatives are really going to have to work hard against this strong team to gain the high ground. Although, I have some concern about Sen. Biden and some past boderline-racial based comments in the past, he brings the credentials that Sen. Obama needs to shore up his weakness.

Sen. Biden is a solid strong, defense, foreign policy-based politican that can pull the voters on the fence towards Obama/Biden.

Furthermore, Sen. Biden is Catholic and from Scranton, PA as well as the blue-collar roots of Sen. Biden.

Like I said before, Biden is a ponderous windbag and the tired boilerplate was less than convincing. The entire presentation was nothing more than an elaborate mating call to the ruling class to engage in the illicit fornication of neo-liberalism.

1. THE RULE OF THE MARKET. Liberating "free" enterprise or private enterprise from any bonds imposed by the government (the state) no matter how much social damage this causes. Of course, they don't oppose government subsidies and tax benefits for business.

3. DEREGULATION. Reduce government regulation of everything that could diminsh profits, including protecting the environmentand safety on the job.

4. PRIVATIZATION. Sell state-owned enterprises, goods and services to private investors. This includes banks, key industries, railroads, toll highways, electricity, schools, hospitals and even fresh water. Although usually done in the name of greater efficiency, which is often needed, privatization has mainly had the effect of concentrating wealth even more in a few hands and making the public pay even more for its needs.

5. ELIMINATING THE CONCEPT OF "THE PUBLIC GOOD" or "COMMUNITY" and replacing it with "individual responsibility." Pressuring the poorest people in a society to find solutions to their lack of health care, education and social security all by themselves -- then blaming them, if they fail, as "lazy."

That lawsuit is no good, Too many people can't read, his mother didn't need any requirements, she was a US citizen, and gave birth to Obama in a state in the US.

None of the INS requirements in that lawsuit apply to Obama or his mother.

It's ok. I know I wasn't the intend target of your comment. I, quite frankly, understand and agree with you. It is amazing how quickly the McCain camp came out with the video on Obama and Biden. But I really think they (McCain Camp) might want to tread lightly on attacking Obama or Biden because there are a lot issue that will be brought up as this election continues, to sum it up after the Dem's and GOP convention, we can say "The Heat is on" and all the gloves will be coming off.

I'm voting for Nader, McCain, or Cynthia. Anything but the no-experienced, dogma spewing, flip flopping, Obama. Biden? I don't believe hew could have picked a worse running mate. But, then again, Obama is a clean mainstream, articulate African-American.
