I think Obama was between a rock and a hard place when he chose Biden.

Makes me think about John Kennedy's choice of Lyndon Johnson in 1960; never mind that some historians and Kennedy's late secretary believe he was muscled into choosing Johnson.

If its true, its true. Its not negative, its necessary. Rethuglicans have been untruthful with their negative campaigns. Calling the GOP and/or the McCain campaign a bunch of lying, cheating thugs isn't negative, its true.

"But when it comes to Democrats, and Obama/Biden'08, the American people have been asked to overlook Obama's personal and political connections with Rezko, Wright, and Ayers. Asked to overlook a nexus of cronyism at UC Medical Center. Asked to overlook Obama's thin record of legislative accomplishments. Asked to overlook a lack of executive and foreign policy experience. And now, overlook Biden.

McCain has never taken an earmark."

Nah, he's just violated FEC laws with the help of his sugar momma wife. Enjoy your McCain points, though...maybe you can get a nice dishtowel with those copy/paste lines.

Biden is almost sure to relish his role as the Obama 'attack dog.'

It won't be long before he provides the campaign with a "Howard Dean Scream' -like moment.

The MSM is taking bets and counting the ...seconds?

Biden needs to attack to distract and keep Obama above the fray.

Obama has more to lose by going negative since he called negative attacts, 'distractions' and 'old politics.'

Dems think Kerry did not do enough to fight back and they do not want to make that 'mistake' again. But the whole campaign taking a decidedly negative turn runs absolutely counter to Obama's MAIN message.

In your view 'elite' means rich. But to many more 'elite' connotates an 'I know what is best for you" attitude. This is where Dems get it wrong. People expect our politicians to be successful and in the USA successful, in part = wealthy.

But the question better asked and answered is: 'Which candidate views this country, views the issues and the world, for the most part, like I do?'

IMO, that is the main question both candidates have to answer.

Many aspects of Biden's record and political career will have to be ignored, explained away, rationalized or whitewashed.

Democrats are critical of anything that Republicans do that give off the appearance of impropriety. We heard this phrase over and over during the Reagan and first Bush's administrations as a justification for all sorts of hearings into possible malfeasance. It didn't matter if someone had actually done something wrong, just if it seemed fishy to the American people.

But when it comes to Democrats, and Obama/Biden'08, the American people have been asked to overlook Obama's personal and political connections with Rezko, Wright, and Ayers. Asked to overlook a lack of executive and foreign policy experience. And now, overlook Biden.

McCain has never taken an earmark. Both Obama and Biden have doled out our tax dollars to special interests and Chicago cronies.

Less and less, Obama looks like the candidate of real hope and change.

He hopes voters can overlook the fact that he 'plays the game' as well as longtime Washington insider Biden (who, BTW is really from Scranton, PA and not OF Washington because he commutes daily).

Good luck with that.

Biden is from the state where many of those big banks are domiciled, like MBNA. His constiuents supported the legislation since many are employed by those companies. At the end of the day, senators are still representing their state and the interests of their state. It would be like asking the Nevada senators to support a bill that places more taxes on legalized gambling...not gonna happen.

The NYT is reporting on Biden's son and Biden's participation in the Bankruptcy Legislation which many lower-income Americans are suffering thru in the midst of the subprime mortgage debacle.

Biden voted against the interest of "the people" in favor of the Big Creditors - MBNA, et. al.

In many ways, this bothers me more than Hillary's votes on Iraq.

Baltimore, MD is a metaphor for Biden's candidacy. Baltimore's Waterfront is a nice facade for the city--wealthy-rich-gentrified...but a few blocks back from the waterfront is one of this country's murder capitals. So, Biden's candidacy may look good on the surface, but it's rife with opportunities to be...unimpressed, uninspired, and unmotivated.

I remain unimpressed with this choice. I've lost the excitement and anticipation that I initially had for watching the convention.

Biden's going to be amazingly loyal to Obama both in the campaign and, should they win, while they're governing and he'll be aggressive when the situation warrants.

Here's a tidbit from the paper in his hometown of Scranton, PA.

T-T: Sen. Obama didn’t do very well here in the primary against Mrs. Clinton. Do you think you can help change that given your roots here?

Mr. Biden: I hope I have. Tell the guys in Green Ridge, I’m coming home. If they don’t vote for Obama, they got me to answer to. Tell ’em at St. Paul’s I’m coming back. Look, this guy’s the real deal. Tell ’em, this guy, if he grew up in our neighborhood, they would have played with him, they would have liked him, they would have wanted him on their team. This guy is a different deal. He is literally — no fooling, if he grew up in the neighborhood, he’d cover your back.
