And not just because the belittling phrase "shame on you/me/him/her/it" turns my stomach.

The last time Barack did this, back when Bittergate first began, Barack was analyzed as needing to be more careful because his outrage was coming across as "how dare anyone challenge me."

Barack's outrage at being labeled out of touch backfired on him.

Something tells me he's not going to make that mistake again. He said McCain was being dishonorable and he expressed sadness and disappointment in lieu of outrage.

So I decided to actually look up the definition of “Messiah”. I went to dictionary.com and of the 5 definitions given, the one that would make any type of sense would be:

Since I am not a christian I don't go to church.

I used to walk along the river and go by a small little church. It was something of the Nazarene or some such thing. It was white with peeling paint but it would literally move up and down when the singing was going on. I used to sit and listen, really wanting to go in and join in. And yet my excuse was that I didn't believe but also I think I would have felt like an intruder. That is the crucial litmus test for any presidential candidate's energy independence or clean transportation policy.

As for the test of a candidate's grasp of electricity policy, energy efficiency is obviously The only cheap power left and a limitless resource and THE core climate solution. Obama understands energy efficiency in a way few other major politicians do, as his plan makes clear:

Deploy the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Energy Source--Energy Efficiency: Barack Obama will set an aggressive energy efficiency goal--to reduce electricity demand 15 percent from DOE's projected levels by 2020. Implementing this program will save consumers a total of $130 billion, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 5 billion tons through 2030, and create jobs. A portion of this goal would be met by setting annual demand reduction targets that utilities would need to meet.

Set National Building Efficiency Goals: Obama will establish a goal of making all new buildings carbon neutral, or produce zero emissions, by 2030. He'll also establish a national goal of improving new building efficiency by 50 percent and existing building efficiency by 25 percent over the next decade to help us meet the 2030 goal.

Overhaul Federal Efficiency Standards: The current Department of Energy has missed 34 deadlines for setting updated appliance efficiency standards....

Reduce Federal Energy Consumption: ... He will make the federal government a leader in the green building market, achieving a 40 percent increase in efficiency in all new federal buildings within five years and ensuring that all new federal buildings are zero‐emissions by 2025. He will invest in cost‐effective retrofits to achieve a 25 percent increase in efficiency of existing federal buildings within 5 years.

Invest in a Smart Grid: ... Obama will pursue a major investment in our national utility grid using smart metering, distributed storage and other advanced technologies to accommodate 21st century energy requirements: greatly improved electric grid reliability and security, a tremendous increase in renewable generation and greater customer choice and energy affordability.

Weatherize One Million Homes Annually....

Build More Livable and Sustainable Communities....

Flip Incentives to Energy Utilities: An Obama administration will "flip" incentives to utility companies by: requiring states to conduct proceedings to implement incentive changes; and offering them targeted technical assistance. These measures will benefit utilities for improving energy efficiency, rather than just from supporting higher energy consumption. This "regulatory equity" starts with the decoupling of profits from increased energy usage, which will incentivize utilities to partner with consumers and the federal and state governments to reduce monthly energy bills for families and businesses. The federal government under an Obama administration will play an important and positive role in flipping the profit model for the utility sector so that shareholder profit is based on reliability and performance as opposed to total production.


Finally, a presidential nominee that really gets it (see "Energy efficiency, Part 4: How does California do it so consistently and cost-effectively?").

The proposal has lots of other details on short-term solutions and promoting the supply of domestic energy. But let me focus on his low-carbon electricity supply plan:




Require 10 Percent of Electricity to Come from Renewable Sources by 2012 [and 25 percent by 2025]. Barack Obama will establish a 10 percent federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to require that 10 percent of electricity consumed in the U.S. is derived from clean, sustainable energy sources, like solar, wind and geothermal by 2012. Many states are already well on their way to achieving statewide goals and it's time for the federal government to provide leadership for the entire country to support these new industries. This national requirement will spur significant private sector investment in renewable sources of energy and create thousands of new American jobs, especially in rural areas. And Obama will also extend the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC) for 5 years to encourage the production of renewable energy.

Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology....

Safe and Secure Nuclear Energy: ... It is unlikely that we can meet our aggressive climate goals if we eliminate nuclear power as an option. However, before an expansion of nuclear power is considered, key issues must be addressed including: security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, and proliferation.... As president, Obama will make safeguarding nuclear material both abroad and in the U.S. a top anti‐terrorism priority. In terms of waste storage, Obama does not believe that Yucca Mountain is a suitable site. He will lead federal efforts to look for safe, long‐term disposal solutions based on objective, scientific analysis. In the meantime, Obama will develop requirements to ensure that the waste stored at current reactor sites is contained using the most advanced dry‐cask storage technology available.

He also repeats his climate pledge and his jobs pledge:

Implement an economy‐wide cap‐and‐trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050.

Invest In A Clean Energy Economy and Help Create 5 Million New Green Jobs. Obama will strategically invest $150 billion over 10 years...




Finally, back to the details of the plug-in hybrid proposal:

As president, Obama will continue this leadership by investing in advanced vehicle technology with a specific focus on R&D in advanced battery technology. The increased federal funding will leverage private sector funds and support our domestic automakers to bring plug‐in hybrids and other advanced vehicles to American consumers. Obama will also provide a $7,000 tax credit for the purchase of advanced technology vehicles as well as conversion tax credits. And to help create a market and show government leadership in purchasing highly efficient cars, an Obama administration will commit to:

Within one year of becoming President, the entire White House fleet will be converted to plug‐ins as security permits; and

Half of all cars purchased by the federal government will be plug‐in hybrids or all‐electric by 2012.

This is an aggressive, achievable, and most important of all, a necessary energy plan. Kudos to Senator Obama and his energy team.

Perhaps the Barack Obama campaign needs the services of a mathematician, but it doesn’t take differential calculus to determine that his energy policy doesn’t add up. Politico reports on Obama’s speech in Lansing, which officially served as the re-launch of his efforts to defuse public anger over Congressional inaction on domestic energy production. Obama wants to both transfer American transportation from oil to electricity and then cut electrical production as well:

The three main components of Obama’s plan are:

— Get 1 million 150 mile-per-gallon plug-in hybrids on U.S. roads within six years.

— Require that 10 percent of U.S. energy comes from renewable sources by the end of his first term – more than double the current level.

—Reduce U.S. demand for electricity 15 percent by 2020.

Well, far be it from me to point out the obvious, but the more cars we have that use “plug-in hybrids”, the more demand for electricity will increase. Apparently, this didn’t catch the attention of the Harvard-educated candidate, but it should catch the attention of the voting public. Transferring the burden of transportation from gasoline to electricity will vastly increase the need for more generating stations.

Even without the transfer of cars from gas to electrical power, how exactly does Obama plan on cutting electrical demand in the US? As the economy and the population grow, the need for electricity will continue to expand as well, in order to just maintain the current standard of living, let alone improve it. Perhaps we will hear more about the electrical equivalent of inflating tires, and Obama does plan to spend billions of dollars weatherizing homes — which Americans do when their energy bills increase anyway.

What happens when the demand doesn’t decrease by 15%? Where will Obama get the energy needed to power the economy? He doesn’t answer that question.

And why worry about electrical demand if Obama believes that we will have emission-free mass-production sources on line in the next 10 years? Electricity in and of itself is completely neutral to the global-warming debate; it’s the source that matters. If we have solar energy perfected, as an example, why worry about electrical demand?

This sounds like a Luddite philosophy, an energy-hostile policy regardless of its source or its benefits. Obama wants America to live in a shortage economy, where we become ever more dependent on government to ration energy and in which our standard of living decreases year after year. Obama talks about Hope, but he’s really selling Despair … and it has started to lose whatever luster it ever had as his energy policies come more into focus.

The rest of the tape is of Bob "I Finally Remembered I Am Black" Herbert. Sounds to me like he did a lot of equivocating - "I'm not saying blah blah blah." When asked if he was saying that Repugnants were racist, he denied it then went on to talk about how, as far back as the 60s, the repugs were courting segregationist George Wallace's voters. There's three main people who post here who disagree with the majority of JJP readers. We try to do so respectfully, and occasionally we succeed at that.

I'll speak for myself and say that I'm not paid by anyone to come here, and that I'm not here at the request of someone's strategist. The groups I associate with are all known to you all. There's no hidden agenda.

I personally don't give a shit about whether I agree or disagree with anyone, and I'm damn sure not trying to change anyone's minds. JJP's readers are as stuck in their ways as I am in mine. All I care about is having a respectful discussion, which for the most part, I have. There's only 2-3 people whose opinions would be better viewed through a scope at 400-500 yards; they can guess who they are, and I'm certain the feeling is mutual. That will be what it is.

Keep reading, by all means. Myself, Karmi, S, and anyone else with an alternate viewpoint will keep disagreeing where we do. And at the end of the day, we'll go home and do it all over again tomorrow.

But the name calling, taunting, and all your other stunts is laughed at more often than it's taken seriously. Now, run and tell that.

I find you quite radical. Especially when it comes to foreign policy.

In terms of foreign policy/national security, I am heavy handed. To pull from both Reagan and Bush's doctrines, the best way to make peace is through showing strength; the best way to keep that peace is by preventing your strength from being challenged. That belief has served me well in my personal life as well.

To quote a good friend, "I believe that no one owes me anything just because I live and breathe.". I don't support any system, program, or entitlement that gives preference to one over another. People should succeed-and experience failure-on their own.

I believe the government has provided me what they're required to: protection of my life, liberty, and right to pursue happiness. They should provide nothing more.

On a lot of the die-hard conservative issues, I do occasionally break. I think abortion is terrible, but understand and support it under a very few circumstances (namely, rape and the inability to care for a child with extreme defects). I do not support it as a method of birth control.

And at the risk of tying this whole thread up with a conservative treatise, I'll stop there.

Its not smearing to point out inconsistencies in statements. It is not smearing to criticze Obama policies and campaign strategies. It is not smearing Obama to voice dissatisfaction with his lack of support for the surge and his reluctance to recognize and celebrate success in Iraq. It is not smearing to point out that pride goeth before the fall.

I was a truly undecided voter when I came to this blog. I have been nudged towards McCain as it has become apparent to me that Obama is a moderate Democrat. He is a far-left candidate and that sits well with all of you here.

Sure, I could leave. Take the debate elsewhere, but as I said before, I enjoy the contrasting viewpoints expressed here.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but did you mean that BHO is NOT a moderate Democrat, or that he is. And I find it funny that people still consider BHO far left. I think some of his positions are firmly on the left, but in general he is quite centrist, to the dismay of many progressives.

IMO most of Obama's tacks to the center seem politically motivated. On the issues that are important to me: Victory in Iraq, low taxes, broad-based energy policy, school choice, I find little common ground with the Senator.

And, McCain's tacks to the right, aren't politically motivated?

And can you please define "victory" in Iraq. I still don't have a firm grasp on what that means. Because compared to our security pre-Iraq war and post-Iraq war, I don't understand how that invasion was in our best interests long term. So for people to quibble about "victory" in Iraq, my question, what exactly does that mean, and in light of that victory, is America, in a better position now than we were before?

As far as the other issues, I am not sure I agree with either position, which means I could never be a politician because I would be shouted down for being a flip flopper. Obama has suggested raising taxes for people with an income $250K +. I disagree with this. But McCain offers making Bush's tax cuts permanent, while acknowledging that it will significantly increase the deficit...I'm not too keen on this either.

Energy. I oppose more drilling because I think it is leading us down the wrong path, but since it looks like there will either be a compromise on this issue, or no legislation at all for awhile, I am willing to be open to the idea.

School choice: I have mixed feelings about the voucher system, which McCain advocates. On one hand, school vouchers would have been extremely helpful to me when I was growing up, but on the other, I wish that parents could send their kids to quality neighborhood schools and many instances, the best schools are not available in inner city neighborhoods. So I will have to do more research before I say yay or nay on the idea.

The price of oil has already dropped in anticipation of domestic drilling. This is a supply/demand issue. McCain supports an 'any and all' approach alternative fuels. If oil becomes a smaller part of the overall energy source, prices will drop, but it is naive to believe that we can completely eliminate oil from the global economy.

Obama has no magic wand to stop the threat of global terror, nor stop Iran from dismantling its nuclear program or threating to block the straight of Hormuz.

We need realistic energy solutions and like it or not those plans must include domestic oil production.

In the oil markets, there is in fact growing demand because of strong Asian economies. And supply is fairly fixed for now. Adding more oil to the market will ease pressure on demand, slow upward price speculation and allow us to meet our own oil demands without needing to import foreign oil.

Also, Rasmussen has a new poll out that shows McCain leading for the first time...only by 1pt, but suggesting that Obama is and has been slipping.

Remember, Obama was an unknown not long ago, but that appears to be changing. He has a lot of "baggage" that is about to get another going-over, along with some new issues as well over the next 3 months.

If you haven't read Juan Williams' article yet then you might should check it out. "The size of the white vote in a general election race dwarfs the white vote in the Democratic primary. Based on the 2004 presidential contest, whites make up about 77% of voters and blacks 11%."

You might should also check out some other polls, because Obama does not have a lead of "10 percentage points" over McCain with white voters. I watch the RealClearPolitics' "National Average", and Obama has kept dropping since his return from the tour. Before the tour, he was leading by 6 and more; however, today that lead is 2.5.

Why should I check out some other polls? I think that proves we can find whatever poll we want to suit whatever argument we wish to make....duh.

Thanks - you know I thought about volunteers this weekend. Are the campaigns just taking a bit of a vacation - i know it seems that way here in Dallas. Because I do not see much in terms of volunteer activity and do not hear much about how people are doing in the field across the country.

There are a LOT of people popping up everywhere with their negatives about Obama, but never post anything positive about their candidate - McCain.

Tell us...why do you support McCain?

I support John McCain because he takes stances even when it is “politically” not in his best interests to do so, i.e. the 'surge'.

He has a personal conviction and the the guts to back it up. This shows me that he is willing do what he believes is right for the country regardless of public opinion, which makes him more than “just another politician.”

He has a sense of thoughtful patriotism, citizenship, and unselfish devotion to this country.

I support John McCain because he will not raise taxes, the last thing we should be doing in a weakened economy.

He will reduce government spending, and thereby prevent the state from controlling even more of American life. Hates earmarks and pork barrel spending and has been fighting to get rid such practices for 20+ years.

He will ensure that America wins in Iraq. That will make one of the biggest and richest Arab states the freest of the Arab states. And it will hand Islamic terrorists the biggest defeat they have ever suffered. It will teach potential enemies not to attack America (whether Iraq did so directly is irrelevant to the point). And it will reassure America's allies around the world, many of whom, as in Iraq, risk their lives for America and liberty, that America will never abandon them.

He will appoint conservatives to the Supreme Court and to federal benches, thereby depriving the left of its most powerful weapon in reshaping America in its image. He has a strong pro-life voting record.

John McCain supports school choice.

I agree with his position to close Guantanamo.

He will develop nuclear power. We would all love to have a solar powered or wind powered country. However, on planet earth at this time, nuclear power may be the cleanest source of energy we have. He also supports domestic production of oil.

Unfortunately I cannot believe Obama's tack to the center on the War on Terror is legit. Political expedience and poll-driven positions seem to be the tenets of his candidacy.

I acknowledge that as well. However, he's at least saying everything I've beaten him up for.

Is it legit? We'll see, but I at least feel compelled to extend the benefit of the doubt (albeit grudgingly), until there's a reason not to.

The pattern is becoming increasingly clear. Obama's statements come with expiration dates. All of them.

Does a drop in the polls constitute an emergency?

S, I don't want to disagree with you just to be contrary. But the problem that I have when people say, look, look, Obama flip flopped or he shifted his position is that they don't call McCain out for the exact same thing. Wait a minute, some of his surrogates/supporters explain it away by asserting that he is doing so because of "principle" and not "political expediency."

My thing is, don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining.
The truth of the matter is that both candidates have changed their positions recently on several issues. Let's either acknowledge that fact and move on or provide a reasonable argument as to why one candidate's shift is legitimate, while the other candidate's is not.

I guess for me, is the shift sincere? If I feel it is, then I could agree that it is 'legitimate.'

McCain has taken moderate, unpopular positions and I feel that it was done because of a deeply held personal conviction or a desire to put partisanship aside and tackle tough issues like immigration or energy independence.

I recall McCain being called out for reversing on the Bush tax cuts and torture.

I just don't find Obama credible in his tack to the center. I welcome his support for the FISA bill and off-shore drilling but I have no doubt that with the Dems in control of all branches of government, he would not hesitate to return his previously held positions.

Just today Obama shifted his position on releasing oil from the strategic petroleum reserve. Why? Could his drop in the polls have something to do with it?

McCain has embraced the asshat who ran a racist campaign against him back in 2004. Remember black baby? The man has embraced him and his positions. What a pathetic little man. To use a repub saying, he threw his daughter under the bus.

I cannot image how he can look her in the eye.

Craig, the photo may seem very strange outside the Black pentecostal tradition, but the laying on of hands and praying for one from the church "body" who is being sent out into the "world" to do God's work is a longstanding tradition. It shows the inclusion of Barack within that body of folks, and their desire that he "go forth" and do the will of God. Whether we believe in that idea or not, as Rikyrah said, it was done with sincerity. Given that he's being called the Anti-Christ today, I submit that he can use all the help he can get!! sigh... It is a moving photo, and when I saw it, I was reminded how much the church formed me, even though I'm no longer a part.. I have a wonderful signed print by a Jamaican artist (whose name escapes me at the moment) entitled "Sharon's Blessing" and is a similar rendering of a young woman surrounded by the church "mothers" all laying on hands in a posture of prayer... in moments of doubt, imagine her name is not Sharon, but my own.

there are ways that that picture could be interpreted. I see it as a melding of so many of our traditions. I see it as revealing so many of our fears, and I see it explaining so much about us as a community. I find it beautiful and sad, because I see the utter sincerity in every face in that picture. EVERY FACE.

That reminds me of when I voted in the GA primary back in Feb. This little old lady, probably in her late 80s, was in the booth next to me and having trouble...and she said "baby can you help me?"...the poll workers were probably in their 90s and very slow (but really sweet), so i said "yes ma'am, what is it?"...she couldn't see well and she said to me "I just wanna vote for Barack, now where is his name?"..it was such a beautiful moment. I could see the pride in her eyes.

Yeah I know I broke an election law or two, but that little old lady had her goal accomplished that day and I'm proud I helped.

Now, you know NOID, I disagree with you here. I don't believe Black folks believe he's the messiah.....I do believe Black folks believe that he must be 'blessed', which is a totally different thing. Scarborough of course was taken back by Herbert’s penetrating analysis, labeling the scribe’s views as "very fascinating." Herbert countered with this assessment.

"They are not targeting this ad at you (to Scarborough). The McCain ad is targeting those who are so uncomfortable with the thought of inter racial couples."

I wish I had seen this.

I watched the show. Bob Herbert was impressive but not particularly well-received. Mammy Capeheart tried to interrupt him to ask a question about Obama playing the race card. Herbert told him that that was not the subject of his column and picked up where he left off. Joe and Buchanan disagreed that the ad lauched against Harold Ford Jr. was racist. Mammy Capeheart did not register an opinion. During the third hour, Mammy Capeheart and Willy giggled on cue as Joe made several sarcastic mentions of the phallic symbols Herbert identified in the ad. Capeheart is the biggest piece of crap I've seen in a long time.

Race card? What about the 'racist card'?

This today from Ruth Ann Dailey, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"Sen. John McCain, his allies and the Republican Party as a whole -- despite its disarray and beleaguered mood -- have acted in unity thus far in refusing to utter the words that the Democrats keep trying to shove into their mouths.

So what's going on here? Something pretty despicable, actually. By constantly (and hopefully) claiming the Republicans will play "the race card," the Democrats are playing "the racist card."

It's absolutely necessary to distinguish between the two in this election cycle -- thanks entirely, up until now, to Democratic leaders' regular, and so-far false, accusations. Their strategy is essentially a prolonged smear tactic, propagating the Democrats' historically silly claim to be the party of racial equality.

And it refutes Mr. Obama's earlier, constant promises to transcend the "old stuff [that] just divides us."

Both parties have plenty to be ashamed of in their racial histories, though you wouldn't know it from the popular narrative. Democratic operatives were the first to "play the race card," spreading (possibly true) rumors back in 1920 that Republican candidate Warren G. Harding had black ancestors. He won anyway.

The popular narrative on race, dispensed by baby-boomer-dominated media, begins conveniently in 1964, when Lyndon Johnson, until very recently a committed segregationist, signed the Civil Rights Act. The other half of the narrative's centerpiece is Richard Nixon's "Southern strategy," which shamefully exploited white segregationists' fears even as an aggressive federal government alarmed many pro-civil rights conservatives.

This highly selective and unhistorical narrative obviously favors one party over the other and prevents the discussion of substantive issues that both candidates say they want. So if Mr. Obama is going to transcend the "old stuff" that just divides us, maybe he should start by declining to imply that his partisan opponents are racists just waiting to pounce.

Besides the general consensus that Mr. McCain is a man of character who will not play the race card, he doesn't have to. He can play the Messiah card, the inexperience card and the leftist card.

He played all three, in fact, last week. His campaign's spoof of Mr. Obama's well-cultivated image as "The One" was spot-on. Its tone only falters in its final sentence, as it raises the issue of inexperience and asks, "But is he ready to lead?"

And Mr. McCain continued to push his advantage on energy policy -- the most high-profile issue by which he can display the philosophical distance between his moderate positions and Mr. Obama's far-left voting record. (Americans for Democratic Action gives him 100 percent, to Sen. Ted Kennedy's 95.)

Mr. Obama can play the hand he's been dealt: Mr. McCain's age, his pro-Iraq War position and a stumbling economy. But racism?

When Mr. McCain's campaign accused his opponent of injecting racism into the contest with his "presidents on the dollar bills" remark, Mr. Obama at first scoffed at the suggestion.

But by Friday, chief strategist David Axelrod said his boss was in fact guilty as charged, acknowledging on "Good Morning America" that Mr. Obama's dollar-bill remark referred in part to his race. At a Saturday news conference in Florida, the candidate said the same thing himself, repeating the defense offered by Mr. Axelrod: the remark's main point was that "I don't come out of central casting when it comes to presidential races." Oddly, he told reporters, "None of you thought I was making a racially incendiary remark, or playing the race card." (The Associated Press did not report how the press corps responded to his assumption of their collective absolution.)

Though the Republicans have won this round, it would be good for the whole country if both candidates live up to their rhetoric -- Mr. McCain by balancing satire and a clear conscience in his ads, Mr. Obama by refraining from implying that his opponents are racists without evidence to support the charge."

White voters deeply resent false accusations of racism and Obama has made a big mistake with this strategy. Rasmussen's daily tracking poll today gives McCain the lead by 1 point.

Why does Bill Clinton want to talk about race now and the fact that he isn't racist and didn't make any racist comments?

Because, in some instances, he is racist, and he's been found out. As my mother says, in the end he is a white man from Arkansas.

We have a saying in Alabama, 'a hurt dog hollers.' Now I don't know in what context this was said, but it seems that he blurted it without provocation, leading me to contend that he's upset that his secret has been revealed.

That seemed coordinated with someone from the McCain campaign saying that O played the race card, and that's what the Clinton's had to endure during the primaries. So, this could be a play for Hillary's voters.

Probably when you think of racist, you see images of men gathered in a crowd at a lynching. You think of men who rail against "niggers" and might even assault a person of colour under certain circumstances. However, that behaviour is prosecuted these days, In addition to it being widely publicized and frowned upon. So, where have those racists gone?

Racism has gone underground. The new racism is not a mob in the middle of the night and burning crosses. The new racism is more insidious. It subtly plays on subconscious fears. It appeals to that ugly core inside that is fearful and hateful. The new racist uses knowledge gained from studies of the brain's response to imagery to appeal to us, generally without our conscious knowledge. The new racist uses this "language" to gain power, position and influence.

This renaissance racist - if you will, becomes enraged when they lose fair and square to a person of colour. Taking on more and more bizarre behaviour, they begin doing and saying irrational things. Like suggesting that despite their having won a hundred times before, this time there was a conspiracy against them, and the person of colour got special treatment.(Sounds like a mental illness, narcissism)

The new racist is not satisfied with 99 marbles; they also want to 1 marble that the person of coulour has.

This new racist graduates 5 from the bottom of their class, still manages to become a USA Senator...then say they have had the race card played against them by a black candidate, when that candidate stands in the way of what they want next. Instead of challenging that black candidate on the issues, they revert to primitive fears to cover their one-time failure.

The new racist marries a wealthy heiress, despite his underachievment, and in a play for more power and wealth, appeals to people who have nothing by playing on their insecurities.

The new racist - a flabby much older man - puts his penis in the mouth of a silly young woman in his employ while in the most powerful office of the nation....and essentially gets away with it.......then, he cries that he is oppressed the one time he is made to account for his behaviour.

The new racist cries sexism when she has run an aneimic campaign....falsely accusing her black opponent of sexism when she has lost this one time. This new female racist protects the white man who has humiliated her, but falsely accuses the black man of sexism. She is the modern equivalent of the white female racist from the past who would falsely accuse a black man of rape to cover up her shame.

How quickly these MODERN, HIGHLY EDUCATED, ENLIGHTENED white people revert to these primitive behaviours when they are challenged for something they want....when they are competed with by a black person. It is a kind of mental derangement.

This behaviour is not normal. Normal is, you lose sometimes...

Your analysis is on the money. Mediocrity has gotten some of these people so far that when they meet "qualified" (in a minority) they can't handle it.

Exactly. Mediocrity got them far because minority excellence was suppressed! It's like all those whites in S. Africa who had great jobs as civil servants but could barely read and write...then when apartheid ended, and they had to compete with blacks who'd worked hard in school, they lost their jobs.

Obama pulled his remarkable upset over Hillary Clinton by running a messianic campaign and by invoking race-based sympathy when the Clintons tried to bring him down to earth. This approach was perfectly tailored to defeating Hillary. To upset the strong presumptive nominee, Obama had to (1) come off as something extra special and (2) win the black vote by huge margins. The "chosen one" theme helped accomplish the first goal; the backlash against the Clintons when they challenged that theme helped accomplish the second. Even so, Obama limped to the finish line, as the messianic theme began to wear thin and Bill Clinton stopped playing into Obama's hands on race.

Having locked up the nomination, Obama understood that he would need to tack towards the center on substance, and he has done so with breathtaking cynicism. As to his style, however, Obama seemed to believe that no change was called for. The idea (a not entirely implausble one) was that his personal charisma coupled with some moderation on key issues would represent an unbeatable combination.

Recent events, however, have raised serious doubts on this score. Obama's trip abroad was a good test. The candidate turned on the style and received a bump in the polls. But the backlash against the arrogance and pretentiousness of the enterprise seems to have more than offset the initial boost in popularity. Swing voters apparently aren't looking for the messiah this year, at least they are not for someone who plays that part on tv.

Don't blame 'new racists' blame your candidate. His character flaws, not his race, make him an unacceptable candidate.
Moreover, invoking race after being made fun of was plainly a bad idea. Many Democratic primary voters respond like Pavlov's dogs to claims of victimhood, especially if race is involved. The rest of the population is inclined to weigh the merits. Since McCain has not come close to attacking Obama on racial grounds, Obama's use of the race card fell flat.

The new racist talks a good game about family values, personal responsibility and pulling yourself up by the bootstraps. But, when a black person does just that, and beats them fair and square, they can't accept the defeat....and incessantly look for other reasons to explain away their defeat.

We had a discussion a few weeks ago why don't his White Mama and White Grandparents who raised him get ANY credit. It's like, ' well, they're White folks and they raised him, but there doesn't seem to be connect with some White folks'.

That he became the President of the Harvard Law Review.

Bill Clinton, has not forgiven his treatment as a racial pariah during the latter part of the primary campaign, nor has his mood improved much. Bill sees this as an opportunity to clear his name.

Repubs have a history of using racist attacks...O only points out what we all know. There are no substantive attacks on O's character or experience. Where are the experts who say his economic plans are foolish? Where are the environmental experts who debunk his energy plans? All McCain does is say he's inexperienced...Well, what does that mean exactly? If he can't explain what he means then it's code for nebulous fears based on Obama's race.

Obama can't counteract the charge because it's deliberately vague. It's like if your boss says there's something she doesn't like about you, but refuses to specify....you know she's playing with your head..

O is specific in his criticism of McCain. He doesn't use code language for age.

I saw the interview on GOOD MORNING AMERICA this morning and I felt that it was incredibly wrong to both Bill Clinton and Sen. Obama & his campaign. I think that the reporter/ABC News was trying to whip something up and get something popping by the tone and content of her questions.

Bill Clinton needs to understand that his actions and Hillary's actions greatly damaged their reputations within the black community. It was very clear from his behavior and tone that he is still VERY angry about how things went down during the primary. It's also very clear that he is still extremely angry with Jim Clyburn and Kate Snow continuing to pepper him with "But Jim Clyburn said..." wasn't helping matters any.

Then they flip back to Jake Trapper who claimed "Well, the Obama campaign issued a bland statement but they probably had other feelings about Clinton's interview blah blah blah."

The interview was a set-up by ABC News IMO to whip up anger between the Obama and Clinton camps. I don't fault Billary Inc. on this one because he probably thought he'd be talking more about Rwanda and his foundation and instead got ambushed into a Gotcha! interview with Kate Snow.

Having said all that, Bill Clinton needs to fall back and realize the role HE played in the race baiting and dog whistling. He's still in "it's not my fault" mode. I do think he realizes how much he hurt Hillary's campaign and I think he'll be sorry about that for the rest of his life.

Bill is too shrewd to get caught in gotcha moments. He knew what was coming and he said what he needed to see to continue to cast doubt on Barack's character just as the McCain camp is doing the same thing all day everyday.

The whole tone of the interview was "I'm gonna gitcha!:"

Kate Snow: "Sources say"

Bill: I don't want to talk about it.

Kate Snow: But some people say

Bill: I don't want to talk about it

Kate Snow: But Jim Clyburn said

Bill: Jim Clyburn was never a Hillary supporter!

Jake Trapper: We showed this to Obama and he issued a predictably bland statement, but he know he feels otherwise.



Whether Bill Clinton wants to cast doubt on Obama or not is besides the point. ABC News was trying to provoke Bill Clinton into saying some shit and then they ran back to Obama trying to get him to say some shit. The question is "Who is ABC News helping? Clinton or McCain?" IMO (today) Clinton was a pawn in the game to help McCain. I didn't like how Kate Snow came at Bill Clinton. The interview had a "I heard So N So called you THIS on the playground, what do you think?" feel to it, IMO.

Did you see Plouffe's video? He said 200,000 donors in the last week of July, with 100,000 on the last day alone. He did a thank you vid posted on their YouTube channel. I don't know if that means they've surpassed their biggest month....I guess we have to be patient.
