Everyone delivered, but John Kerry stole the show. And it was quite a show to steal.
That's all for now.
TruthSeeker
Damn! I'm online and I turn around suddenly and who do I see in the crowd groovin' to "Chain of Fools".....Craig Hickman!!!! What are the freakin' odds? They're playing reruns of the nights coverage.
So, did anyone notice the song they were playing when Bill came out? Fleetwood Mac:
If you wake up and dont want to smile, If it takes just a little while, Open your eyes and look at the day, Youll see things in a different way.
Dont stop, thinking about tomorrow, Dont stop, itll soon be here, Itll be, better than before, Yesterdays gone, yesterdays gone.
Why not think about times to come, And not about the things that youve done, If your life was bad to you, Just think what tomorrow will do.
Dont stop, thinking about tomorrow, Dont stop, itll soon be here, Itll be, better than before, Yesterdays gone, yesterdays gone.
All I want is to see you smile, If it takes just a little while, I know you dont believe that its true, I never meant any harm to you.
Dont stop, thinking about tomorrow, Dont stop, itll soon be here, Itll be, better than before, Yesterdays gone, yesterdays gone.
Dont you look back, Dont you look back.
Naughty, naughty Obama Campaign!
Then Michelle's eyes were so cool...I know ugly stuff is going on behind the scenes. I know Michelle's not going to like Bill first, because of the blowjob thing...and the other petulant stuff is the last straw.
Best line from Bill's speech:
"America is a place called HOPE"
Saw Jennifer Garner and Jessica Alba and Chevy Chase, Spike Lee, Mohammad Ali in the crowd.
JJai
They said on MSNBC or CNN that the "America is a place called HOPE" was a tagline in his 1992 acceptance speech.
caligirl
actually, that fleetwood mac tune was the clintons' campaign theme song back in '92 when bill made his first run.
rikyrah
You saw Craig? I was looking for Craig in the Maine delegation - he was not there..LOL
I knew Spike Lee was there - he had a funny interview yesterday on MSNBC. Had a great Obama t-shirt on.
rikyrah
I loved the way Michelle looked when Barack took the stage.
TruthSeeker
There was footage of Michelle chatting away with Teresa Kerry .....it looked so warm between the two of them. Just like two girlfriends having a nice talk.
I wonder also, if Barack had a mourning period. Walking on the beach barefooted, and tucking a flower behind Malia's ear.....I wonder if he felt the loss of a very simple existence. I wonder if he felt a pang for a private life they very likely will lose? Their house, their beds, the neighborhood, friends.
APeach
I'd imagine that Teresa Kerry is a font of knowledge and advice for Michelle. It was always my hope that she could be an "older sister" of sorts to Michelle. Teresa can give her insights few others can. As hard as it was for Teresa--you know, being an actual sentient being with thoughts and opinions--she knows that Michelle's pressures are about a 1000 times worse.
TruthSeeker
Are Cheryl and Baratunde going to be at Barack's speech?

Denver Weather Forecast for Thursday:
Thursday...Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. East winds 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Thursday Night...Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s.
rikyrah
Am I the only one that didn't know Beau Biden's on his way to Iraq?
The hurricane could make landfall in New Orleans Monday night just as George W. Bush is addressing the RNC. Where is John Hagee when you need him?
There's something very karmic about this, if it goes down this way.
TruthSeeker
Damn, hah! I didn't see this....
Funny how they were praying for rain for Barack's speech, huh? I hope the Dems don't come with the boyscout nonsense, and really use this against the Repubs.
Nagin said earlier tonight, there's no shelter of last resort. EVERYBODY has to evacuate. So, if worse comes to worse at least there won't be the loss of life.
Keeping my fingers crossed that Dems will use this as a teaching tool to remind Americans of what happened in Katrina. I hope they put out an ad.
msmartin
I hope it doesn't for the sake of all the people in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
msmartin
Did Rachel Maddow really tell the story about McCain eating cake on the tarmac when Katrina landed. Then she followed up with all the votes can made against aid to the area and investigations about the handling of the situation. RACHEL WAS ON FIRE!
If McCain announces his VP on Friday, he will have done it on the anniversary of Katrina. Is he purposefully trying to say screw what happened?
TruthSeeker
If the Dems think of it, they could put out a mailer for Friday, listing all of McBush's crimes during Katrina and pictures of them eating that birthday cake....The thing is, Gustav is bearing down on New Orleans right now. Nagin left the Convention to go back home tonight. I hope the Dems have something planned to converge with the announcement of the VP.
rikyrah
As if McCain cares
rikyrah
I've been watching TVOne's coverage. The thing about it, you know if there's a Black person speaking -ANY BLACK PERSON - they're going to show it..LOL
And, I've seen at least half of the CBC.
The Afterparty has been worth it because of yesterday's Charles Barkley interview. Haven't seen tonight's show.
TruthSeeker
I was listening to Wolf talk about Barack's uncle Charlie who was at the liberation of Buchenwald. He seemed moved by that. (Is Wolf Jewish?). He noted the picture of Michelle sitting there with Barack's uncle and the races and that this was America.
It occurs to me that this was brilliant for the older Jewish community in Florida that is mistrustful of Obama. It's kinda ironic, 'cause there were a lot of black soldiers who liberated the camps. Many who were in the concentration camps said that the African American soldiers were particularly kind....sharing their food etc.
rikyrah
Wolf's so Pro-Israel, you'd think it was tatooed on his forehead.
caligirl
yes, wolf is jewish.
GreenLadyHere
barry! barry! barry!!!! Michelle is on!!! :>) :>) She looks GREAT!!! :>) :>)
One more thing- Joe and Jill Biden have the real thing. Like Michelle and Barack. Can anyone picture Bill saying about Hillary "She takes my breath away?" NOPE. You can hear him say "She's tries to choke me in my sleep every now and again" though.
Bill and Hillary look like they are divorced friends. So sad.
msmartin
LOL at the first part of your statment. Hillary does still love him, don't you remeber the picture of her hugging him in adoration during their vacation? Poor thing.
GreenLadyHere
evita: ". . . divorced friends. . . ." ABSOLUTELY!!! No doubt!!! They NEVER even do the professional-type kiss! NEVER!!! My previous post/musing on their "post-nuptual agreement" was prompted by their LACK OF SIGNIFICANT & SINCERE INTERACTIONS!!!!! His adultery was/is SAD!!!
I got curious about the set-up at Invesco Field for Barack on tomorrow. I LIKES. All this bull about it being overstated is junk. It's appropriate for the Next POTUS.
Miranda
Poor John McCain, his camp just announced they are revealing the VP pick on Fri morning. If that doesn't scream "look at me!! look at me!!" then I dont know what does.
nickwah22
trying to kill the positive obama attention. good strategy. i mean, y not let the suspense build.. probably because not too many people care. i haven't heard or seen "veep stakes" since last week.
taritac
There is no suspense. Who cares who he picks? Every name that has been floated has been boooooring.
andyfrombrooklyn
i am begining to see barack's august stategy . it is called "rope a dope" . mccain and the pundits exhaust themselves, empty all their ammunition and then boom....huge crowd and speech at mile high stadium while the whole country is tuned in. ....and hillary "enough with the speeches and rallies" clinton enjoys it , i know i am looking forward
GreenLadyHere
andy: co-sign!!!! :>) :>)

Ladies - Yeah or Nay on Michelle's outfit.
I vote Yeah.
But, then, I think I'd vote yeah if Michelle turned up in a burlap sack.
msmartin
It was okay.
msmartin
It was okay.
nickwah22
i think the color is great against her skin tone. cute dress. i dont think she makes too many bad decisions. thankfully, she has evolved from back in the day
Well, I finally watched the clip of Hillary speaking. Wow, she was serious! I think she was actually genuine, I can respect her sincerity. I wish her well, I'll cut her some slack...for now. She has to earn that trust back if she plans to run again.
I've been watching the convention straight through since 9pm, it was great. I was laughing, crying, shouting, and all those good things. I love politics, the game of it all, and the possibility of it as well. Pres. Clinton was his usual self, very charming and endearing and I enjoyed listening to him. I feel the same about him as I always have, so, no real hatred for him. Just disappointment. Still, fun to watch.
We had a string of great speakers, my home state (IL) showed up and represented with Tammy Duckworth. How'd y'all like her, she's a spitfire and not afraid to tell it like it is. I've always enjoyed listening to her speak. She is a FIGHTER, and I respect that deeply. And Kerry was great, why wasn'r he more like that when he was running. He might have had more of a fighting chance. WHy do they all become so passive when they're running for president?! People want the passion.
I was confused, CSPAN noted that Richardson was supposed to speak, I was disappointed I didn't see him. Hopefully sometime this week something works out. I didn't know Barack was gonna be there, so I was thrilled. And did you see Michelle's face :) Awww, that was sooooo sweet, all that love. *sigh* I truly love politics again! Yeah it's package emotions and whatnot, but...I dunno, it's a good game if you play it for the people and not yourself.
JJai
Jill and Michelled love their husbands. lol, I am only used to see Hillary, Laura, and Cindy types.
MsKitty
What a refreshing change it will be to have a First Couple that actually sleeps with each other instead of with other people, or not at all.
nickwah22
Well maybe if we get real families in the White House the divorce rate in this country will go down. Maybe with Barack & Michelle in the WH we will see some improvement in the overall Black family in this country. Let us pray.
Honey01
Co-sign on all the above. I remarked to my husband I don't recall ever seeing the presidential/vp candidate wive(s) look on so adoringly. It just seems so real, and authentic. I am definitely not used to that in politics. Even the Gores who I am sure love each very much were rather awkard
I am certain they were proud beyond words.
Miranda
I saw the announcement that Bill Richardson is speaking tomorrow.
Michelle had a "that's my BABY!" look when she saw Barack walk out!!!
Texas_Girl_in_LA
I know, right. Barack with his cool ass walked out and she just melted
Miranda: You know! LOL! It reminds me of my family, it was so nice to see.
JJai: You're right, they both looked like they were loving their husbands. I have a feeling they are going to be great together beside their husbands. I can see them calling their husbands out if they get out of pocket. It's feel good to have some strong female backup in the Oval Office.
APeach
Yes, yes, and yes! It's not like the Repub standard issue female autobot in "adore" mode--it's love. And Biden's grands are SO cute. I just love when little kids try to pick up toddlers. It's adorable!
And the youngest, bless his little heart, seemed to think "Grandad, it's too many people out there. Don't let me go!!"
rikyrah
Look at that handsome family.
msmartin
I wish the Obamas would have joined them on stage. Is that not customary?
Honey01
I dunno much about the pomp and circumstance, but I gather this was billed as the "Vice Presidential candidate's night".
I am sure all will be on stage Thursday.
rikyrah
tomorrow.
JJai
So Biden flubbed some and Obama came out tonight; uncustomarily. I think this helps to make it easier on Obama tomorrow intended or not.
rikyrah
And the place goes wild
Teacher
I love Joe, but he was putting me to sleep. He needs some help writing. He was all over the place.
The US needs to shut up about Russia. Georgia was in the wrong.
Miranda
ssshhhhhhh........they know........but there are quite a few folks who need a "communist" enemy from the 80s......those Reagan democrats inPennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.
Teacher
YES!! The smile dropped off my face when he said that.. If they don't start none there won't be none. They need to support Russia, and take those missles out of Poland. The distance from Poland to Russia is the distance from Mexico City to Houston. How would anyone feel about another super power installing missles in Mexico City? I think I can safely say that we would consider it a direct threat to our national security. If we would, why wouldn't they? If you can't visualize Mexico City-Houston,, it's equivalent to the distance between Houston-chicago, or chicago-New York. Its roughly 700 miles.
Bill has an Obama sign!!
delfinajones
true
msmartin
I'm loving Granny Biden. Go back out there and bloody his nose so you can walk downt he street tomorrow.
caligirl
i essentially told my sons the same thing when they were little! LOL!
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Mama Biden, as Barack would say
taritac
That was funny. She looked at the person next to her, nodded and said, "It's true!"
rikyrah
lol
TruthSeeker
She kinda looked a bit embarrassed that he let that one out...lol
msmartin
I don't think so, I read her lips when she turned to someone and said, "that's what I told him."
Miranda
LMAO!!!! That's a scrappin family! LUV IT!
pjamma
Obama is making a surprise visit at the end of Biden's speech. I'm gonna need more tissue.
Honey01
Yay, I see it now. I have been avoiding the scolling tape on by watching CSPAN and missed the news.
I am excited. I am sitting here trying to figure out how I can take Friday off before the holiday. I am going to be emotionally spent and sleep deprived Friday morning after Obama speaks.
Honey01
Serious!?
Teacher
There is a website that sells excuses, Dr's notes and other materials one needs to skip work. Do a search if you need their services.
I've been teased about my mis-read on Biden as VP but for real, am I alone in thinking this speech is just...ok in its delivery? Substance is good though.
Substance was great but I think he missed REAL OPPORTNITIES to knock it out of the park. He flubbed several lines and should have slowed down to let the crowd say "more of the same" with him. Shoot that could have been an AD.
But then again, he has the regular guy thing down for real. If he gave a better speech the regular guys wouldn't have trusted him... I see myself as regular but I learned this year I was a late sipping so and so from the primaries.
Oh! Michelle's genuine tears to Beau's intro was priceless. I was crying with her...
I think the delegates look pretty bored. I'm cool with Biden and I feel much more optimistic now that Hillary and Bill have "sealed the leaks."
...but I think we're all gonna look back (regardless of the outcome of the election) and WISH that Barack and Hillary could've worked this out...Obama-Clinton would have been PURE FY-YAH!
TRW
Check out CNN. I find their reporting questionable, but they basically said that when those memos came out that confirmed Penn was pushing the idea that Obama was "foreign" and "unAmerican" there was basically a slim chance she was going to be picked. And while others may be able to look over this fact, I cannot.
I get that sometimes you have to swallow your pride in politics and do things you don't want to do and work with people that you don't want to work with. But those memos are more than that. They say a lot about the tenor of her campaign. AND. . .Penn helped both Clintons write their speeches so clearly they still feel he is a political ally. Sorry, I would rather see Barack lose on principle then to sell his soul for the presidency. Some things are NOT worth it.
caligirl
ummm....NO.
msmartin
My son said the same thing to me tonight.
rikyrah
take those damn rose-colored glasses off. Obama/Clinton would have been HELL from the moment announced. Obama did NOT need 20 years of baggage from The House of Clinton, on top of the shit he'll get just cause he's Black..
When you suggest that the Clintons would overshadow Barack, you're placing the Clintons on equal footing with Barack. Barack is going to be President of the United States.
Barack is not going to have a co-president. Joe Biden will not be a co-president (or shadow president like Cheney). Hillary Clinton would have not been a co-president.
You're giving the Clintons way too much credit. If they were that powerful, they would have won the nomination.
rikyrah
Webb,
Obama deserves the chance to win or lose on his own - that's why no Hillpatine.
Just like he deserves the chance to succeed or fail on his own as President - another reason no Hillpatine.
They would have been nothing but trouble. A distraction that our next PRESIDENT did not need.
flygyrl72
I agree. You think Bill Clinton would sit on the sidelines with out weighing in?! Yeah, right! Hil neither!!! They would be a nightmare. Disastrous.
Miranda
If she wasn't married to a former President, sure......but I don't see how in the world anyone would want their VP being the spouse of a former President. Its too messy.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
He's talking to the average American...that average Joe
TruthSeeker
It's a conversational style. Everybody's hanging on every word though...they're not bored or distracted.
Michelle was crying when Beau told the story about his Mom and sister.
msmartin
Delivery is great - he's just having a conversation with the crowd. I like it.
taritac
Oh nice! Biden's mom is around to see her son ascend to VP.
Biden was kind of fine when he was young. His sons aren't bad looking either.
Biden's speaking style/cadence is tripping me out...he's gonna be a character.
Michelle
Maybe I have a little crush on the young Biden. That's acceptable, right?
Michelle
I would just like to say that we have more than one Michelle commenting here at JJP now.
caligirl
okay. which one are u? LOL!
Michelle
LOL caligirl!
I'm the one who -- wait a minute -- anyway, I've been around JJP for a while, since the primaries and the old site. I don't have a patent on the name though. Obviously.
Shouldn't matter ... doesn't matter .... it's just, I myself don't get crushes on men. So reading that comment from another Michelle was interesting.
Otherwise I'm happy to see more Michelles here.
/self-involved commentating
caligirl
it's cool. i was just teasing ya. :-)
Miranda
Heck when he smiles NOW I lose my train of thought. He really has a great smile, both he and Barack...they have BEAUTIFUL smiles.
In all serious, McCain's smile scares the living daylights out of me. I swear to you, it really freaks me out.
taritac
They don't call him the Crypt Keeper for nothing.
msmartin
I was thinking the same exact thing. Scary-down right evil.
Teacher
I agree with you, Miranda. When O smiles, it's like sunrise. He's all like BLING!!!!!!! To me, McCain looks like a turtle. He could play the roll of Bill Slowsky on those Comcast commercials. He is hideous and the thought of him touching anyone activates my gag reflex. Even worse, his daughter looks like him in drag. I feel sorry for her. Sad.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Right!!!!!!!
I am so with you
taritac
Fight you for him!
pjamma
Oh my God, Beau, can you make me cry any more?
Texas_Girl_in_LA
wow...just wow..
rikyrah
Awe - they married Jill.
Miranda
Thank goodness this is a holiday weekend because this type of crying over a 4 day span is wearing me OUT.
I am happy that they highlighted Biden's work on the Violence Against Women Act. It's the number one reason why I am satisfied with him as vp.

I think Pat Buchanan is getting on Nora's nerves.
caligirl
and she's just back from maternity leave, so her nerves are probably already a little frayed. he needs to tread lightly!
rikyrah
If you're SANE, Buchanan would get on your nerves.
delfinajones
Tammy Duckworth- military- is doing a good job.
Val
on CNN a commentator (I forgot who it was) raised the point that for the last few months after Barack became the presumptive nominee -- Barack was out there on his own. He had practically no support from the democratic party aside from the select few to fight against McCain and his people -- luckily he was able to carry the load. However after this week - the Democratic party will have his back.
caligirl
yes. but i'm sure he realised that that would be the case before he decided to run. he knew these folks, and was well aware of the clinton establishment he was up against. in fact, he mentioned it a few times in his earliest stump speeches.
i think that knowing full well what he was getting himself into (and having the courage/self-confidence to proceed anyway) is what has sustained him and enabled his success. the man was PREPARED!
Miranda
That is sho nuff the TRUTH. Whoever said it was simply speaking straight truth to power because that' s been the case. Only a few have really put it out there on the line for Barack, so after this week I better see all their azzes out there stumping like its 1999.
taritac
That's what I wrote last night. He was all on his own, with the formidable Clintons, the media, McCain, the Repubs all against him. I didn't realize how alone he was until after Hillary's speech last night. For some reason, it brought it all home to me, that he only really has God, Michelle, and his own fortitude holding him up.
Biden will back him up. Kerry, the Kennedys, and the rest of us believe in him, but he's got to do this primarily on his own.
Teacher
Well, I thought Wexler did right by him. I would love to see Wexler as POTUS one day. I think McCaskill was good & Napolitano. They just didn't get the air time. The media was clearly against him, which is why it seemed like everyone is against him.
caligirl
and yes, the media blacked-out all favourable very coverage early on. they have definitely NOT been helpful, nor will they for the duration. they are still against him. that talk of a media 'lovefest' is a smokescreen. what they are doing should be criminal. it will be interesting to see how this gets discussed in about a year.
thank god for blogs!
rikyrah
Yes. You pointed it out, and you were right.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Anybody watching the military video?
Miranda
That was so moving....I was not suppose to cry tonight...too late.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
It was produced by Steven Spielberg, who is there with his wife.
rikyrah
thanks for the info
Miranda
Who is this strange looking man with the Dark Sith??
rikyrah
If John Kerry had been like this 4 years ago, he'd be President.
Val
cosigning Rikyrah - Kerry was fantastic.
Teacher
I thought the exact same thing!
Speaking of leadership, I feel kinda proud how O keeps encouraging the politicians to take the high road. It seems like he is rubbing off on them. Even in their criticism. they aren't as ugly as the repugnantans. He is influencing his elders in a positive way.
Billy Jeff is a politician through and through. He knows how to move a crowd and give excellent sound bites. It served it's purpose. And he saved his legacy. I still don't trust him or believe he was entirely sincere but it was a good speech. Not as good as Hillary's but good. And John Kerry was a big yawn. I see why he didn't win when he ran. You need a real fire in your belly. Bill had it. Clearly Barack has it and he and MIchelle will build a different kind of legacy during his time in office. I will have to be there in the freezing cold in January and will happily do so.
Teacher
Now the hacks @ CNN are talking about McCrypsters VP, who has been selected. I know Pawlenty has it in the bag. I had to say it even though I don't want to talk about it until tomorrow or Friday.
TruthSeeker
See, this is why Dems kept telling Hillary during the Primaries, stick to the issues! McCain is now running that ad with Hillary's words. What a stupid waste. Saying that stuff didn't help her...but it gave the repubs ammo against Obama.
msmartin
I honestly believe that that is what it was meant for.
malletgirl02
I agree, she knew what she was saying.
msmartin
I honestly believe that that is what it was meant for.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
There seems to be a lot of Republicans at this convention.
Teacher
It seems like there are quite a few celebrities, but maybe I mistook Evan Bayh for Kevin Klein.
RobM
The most charitable I can be is that the Clintons did the right thing. The nomination made me feel this way: first I want a kiss and then I want it all.
TruthSeeker
Kerry's speech is really good. I think it's coming from the heart.
Wow! his speech is REALLY good!!!
Barack's Uncle Charlie is there....the one who was at Buchenwald....who the Repubs tried to say Barack lied about.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Kerry rocked it! Because he knows first hand what's it like.
Not this time, man, not this time
msmartin
Perfect-just perfect.
msmartin
Barack's uncle who help liberate the death camps in Germany is at the convention and John Kerry introduced him. He's sitting with Michelle. Michelle cried after he was introduced. OMG, I'm crying.
Val
you too msmartin? So was I. Remember when Barack was telling the story about his uncle and McCain ran with it that he was lying because Barack misstated the name of the concentration camp. But tonight it was like - here is my uncle. Proof positive.
I can see the increase in the jewish vote. and the "simpson dope" moment for McCain.
Barack WILL win the November election.
msmartin
Yes, me too! It was a beautiful picture watching Michelle help him to stand and later watching her cry.
LoL, I saw his Uncle. Would you believe that man if he walked up to you and said, "Barack Obama is my nephew."
LoL, we're going to start seeing caucasians act like us, by claiming celebrities as their family, like with my family: "Don't you know that Patti LaBelle is our cousin???"
Then I realize that Lynne Cheney has already claimed Barack Obama as a cousin...dayum them cheneys are sneaky.
rikyrah
Webb, you crack me up.
TruthSeeker
I have to hand it to Bill. That was a better speech than Hillary's...he cleaned up all the loose ends.
caligirl
i agree.
msmartin
It was. It was crafty and he touched on every point. I'm satisfied.
Miranda
Wonder what the new memo will be tomorrow from Voldemort's Camp? I had a gut feeling that it would be Bill clearly stating "Barack Obama is ready to lead", coming from a former opponent is nice, coming from a former President is THE END. You can't take it beyond a former President. So tomorrow, what will they come up with?
Her speech was better, but she only endorsed the "generic Democrat."
taritac
KERRY IS BRINGING IT!!!!
TRW
I agree. I think is a more forceful advocate for Barack than he was for himself.
pjamma
Yeah he did a great job.
rikyrah
Well, well, we all knew Bubba could lie with the best of them
Honey01
Bubba gave a decent speech. There were some good zingers in there toward the GOP. Probably about a third of the speech a stroll down memory lane for all of his good deeds and accomplishments.
I actually thought in the beginning when he used the term "life experiences" that was a dis. "Life experience" is one of those terms one uses to supplement for other work experience. I thought he was being slick. I could be wrong though, he later concluded he was ready, Though, I am sure there is an ad already out that parses the phrase.
Teacher
Well. Bill's speech slapped me upside the head & healed me. Hallelujah. I don't trust them, but my animosity has been abated. They saved their own asses and I'm glad. If he would've come with some foolishness I think he would've been booed off the stage. Hey, maybe Biden got to them.
Val
Teacher - I mentally reinstated Bill's black card when I watched his speech. Especially when the first line of the speech was his support of Barack.
JJai
don't do it; this was for his legacy.
It was not even for Hillary's chances in 2012.
Val
lol. doesn't matter the reason JJai. When the spirit says move I move. He did the right thing tonight and after Hillary's speech last night and especially when she invoked Harriet Tubman -- I felt something. She meant it. So because of her and because Bill did the right thing today -- I gave him his black card back. :-)
Now I'm not Black so I can't give or take cards but i will encourage you to resist the emotional response. He has until November 4th to TAKE BACK every freakin lie he told in order for his wife to win. Remember he was lying soooo bad in West Virginia and towards the end of the primary. Let's not forget that.
You can love him, but do not forgive him! And for real, do we really forgive black people like that (not speaking about Michael Jackson, R Kelly...) but how about OJ. No one has forgive him!!!! Right?
GreenLadyHere
evita/JJai: NOPE!!!! Will NOT give it back!! NOPE!!!!!
And I am Black and have been through tooooooo much to be so fickle!!!
NO WAY! NO HOW! NO BULL!!!
Did I say NO!!???? :>) :>) :>)
caligirl
you are right. i'm black, and i agree with you 100%. that's the precise reason they felt they could drag an entire community of people through the mud in the first place. they figured that we wouldn't care...we'd just swallow it all and vote for them in the end. i'm so glad that the hip-hop generation (of which i consider myself a member), people 45 and under, said HELL NO to all of that!
JJai
oh no; don't talk about the spirit. I am a Christian. I'm gonna have to pray about it!
Val
lolol so you know I gotta do it JJai.
taritac
Good job Bill! I can't say that I love you quite yet, but you may try to woo me some more.
Texas_Girl_in_LA
I'm impressed. Bill did better than I expected.
Teacher
Well, Bill is delivering. Someone or something got thru to him. Michelle looks so relieved. They bought him a bunch of blond hookers. He deserves them.
GreenLadyHere
teacher: I need ta be in your class!! U R a riot!!!! :>) :>) ". . BLOND HOOKERS . . "
Did anyone catch that lady from last night on CNN. The black lady who I would have slapped if I had been in Denver and had the energy. What an ass. She was crying over Hillary...how she doesn't think she is going to vote this year for Obama.
Was she a plant or was she really that delusional?
Whether you agree with Senator Obama or not, the historical significance of this evening should not be lost on anyone.
I join our nation in congratulating him and his supporters in achieving a significant milestone in the history of all Americans.
Admiral_Komack
Thank you, D.
TRW
I still can't wrap my mind around it honestly.
Teacher
I agree. Congratulations to the United States of America for finally coming into the 21st century. O has broken the gates open for our daughters & sons. Race & gender don't have anything to do with this job, and it's time for America to admit it. I still have hope for Claire McCaskill. We can tell the young people that they can be president of the United States and mean it.
OK, Kerry just introduced the great uncle war hero and I am tearing up to see he & Michelle hugging. They are Black & White & they are family.
I can't believe CNN let the Cryptkeeper buy ad time with his scurrilous ad. They are bastards.
I am hardly ever here. I am currently ill. I have been watching the convention from my hospital bed and I wish I could have gone to Denver as I planned. Michelle Obama made me cry, Hillary made me happy and Clinton so far sounds really good.
I keep changing from channel to channel because I find that the cable news networks have too much punditry. They are ruining it for me.
MsKitty
Sending prayers and healing vibes your way. Get well soon.
Teacher
Get well soon, Rhonda!
Admiral_Komack
Please take care of yourself.
Val
Hi Rhondacoca - I hope it is nothing serious. Prayers to you. Hope you can go home soon (healthy of course) :-)
pjamma
I was wondering where you were, Get well soon!
rikyrah
Rhonda,
Get well.
If you can't get C-Span, then here's the best choices: MSNBC, then CNN, then Fox as a last resort.
taritac
Aw.w. Get well soon.
Go to PBS. They do a good job of shutting up.
delfinajones
Anyone notice some plastic thing on Michelle's collar? What was that.
RobM
It may be a security tracer as she is not likely to carrying a purse.
Miranda
YES!
taritac
So far so good. His line about being ready with Biden by his side kind of rubbed me the wrong way, but the rest of his speech is good and is advancing Barack's qualities and policies well.
Much less focused on himself and his administration than I expected.
JJai
but you know that line probably played well to the people who needed to hear it...
taritac
Okay, Bill. Win me over. Do what your wife couldn't do last night.
It was Black people (the most at any convention ever) and Hispanic people (the most at any convention ever) and Asian people (the most at any convention ever) and Native Americans (the most at any convention ever. The Montana delegation alone was 20% Native.) .
pjamma
People love themselves some Bill Clinton.
Part of me wonders if they were clapping so long because this speech officially ends the Clintons drain on the national spotlight.
Lilytiger
If we give him enough love, then we will never have to do it again!
I know that's right....I've done it too...you are thinking "fix your face girl, fix your face NOW!"
caligirl
heeheehee... madame michelle's a strooooonnnnnnnggggg woman!
Miranda
Oh....I know that clapping...I know that look too...I've seen it....hell, I've done it.....I can see the bubble above her head with the words "Jesus, just help me get thru it"
I'm at the Big Tent and everyone in here starting cheering and clapping. That roll call was great. We have it on tape that Hillary cast her vote for Obama with a smile on her face. Now...I must admit I would have loved for Bill to have done it as well, but hopefully he'll give the speech of his life tonight.

I am so elated to have witnessed history---a black man has been nominated for the highest office in the land. And even though the first black man in my life, my father, is no longer here to witness this, I am proud to share this moment with my three young sons.
GreenLadyHere
Monie: Thank you for sharing your family with us!! :>) :>)

hey miranda i'm a big frankie beverly and maze fan and that song hit the spot
Miranda
LOL...I confess, I was listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show one morning a few weeks ago and he played it..and when the song was over, Tom said "see, this is all Hillary has to do, just play this and dont say a word." I fell out laughing, but I admit, this song says it all - that first verse just hits home.
pjamma
Michelle Bernard gave Pat Buchanan the best STFU look. I love her.
And Eugene Robinson made me tear up again be cause he was tearing up talking about what this means to him.
And even Big ol' meathead Joe Scarborough gave a good commentary (okay it was one step above "some of my best friends are black") but for him that's HUGE. Go MSNBC.
rikyrah
I can't wait to watch it. I'm not shocked by Eugene.
Angela
By the way, I saw part of Michelle Obama's speech at Emily's List and she was great. What really got me is at the end she asked for support for her husband but she also asked they support her back and she said I'm serious....I need your support.
It was very touching.
rikyrah
I saw that speech by accident. But, I was touched too by it.
It's different once it becomes official. Funny how it just kinda crept up on us. This moment almost got lost in the back and forth of tv punditry. Thank God it didn't.
It was absolutely beautiful! This is a very special moment. To see tears of JOY . . . to see happiness instead of the divisiveness we've seen for months . . . seeing tears of joy at the realization of this historic moment . . . It's a beautiful thing!
I hope ya'll set your tivos. Because this is something I plan to show my grandchildren one day.
Obama is our nominee.
Props to Hillary for what she did today. I gotta give props where props are due. She came through today.
Now that the drama's over (hopefully . . .lol) . . .
LET'S WIN THIS THING!!!
No more doubts. No more drama. No more second-guessing. It's time to WIN!
OBAMA/BIDEN '08!! YES WE CAN!!!!!
barry4obama
i'm still fighting off tears myself........my sistahs please don't get angry with me, but i have a major league crush on michelle bernard!!!!!

I forgive you. Just this once.

I dont know who's a Frankie Beverly and Maze groupie like myself but this is a We Are One moment - there comes a time for family to unite and stand together, this is our time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2lS283bmKM
Can't understand why we treat each other in this way Taking up time With the silly silly games we play We've got our love And no matter how it's said or done
We are one, no matter what we do We are one, love will see us through We are one, and that's the way it is
Sometimes I feel That we try and make each other sad The things we do How we make each other feel so bad We've got so much We could all be having so much fun
We are one, from the very start We are one, deep down in your heart We are one And that's the way it is
I Can't understand why we treat each other in this way Taking up time With the silly silly games we play We've got our love And no matter how it's said or done
We are one, no matter what we do We are one, love will see us through We are one, and that's the way it is

thank you
TruthSeeker
beautiful words. Thanks
JJai
love it!

That was one of the most beautiful moments I've ever witnessed. To see the relief and joy on the people's faces because we finally have our nominee! I was teary eyed.
Hillary, you did a good thing.
Now let's get to work! Obama /Biden '08!!
GreenLadyHere
Angela: "It was so neat!" ABSOLUTELY!!!! :>) :>) :>)
I'm at his site EVERYDAY!!! THANKS for the encouragement!!!! :>) :>)
Much LOVE to the Ottawa's!! :>) :>)
Angela
I think I'll need a tranquilizer for tomorrow night. The emotions coming out are just unbelievable.
take care!
delfinajones
I started crying at work when Hillary gave her votes. I was hating her last night but today I felt some empathy. I think she did good today.
msmartin
Me too delfinajones, she looked happy to do it and looked like a real team player. I liked her before this election season got ugly and I hope she will get rid of all those men who misguided her and be her own woman. Then, she will be a force.
I respect Senator Clinton again. She handled it, no matter what Billy Jeff says tonight.
Angela
I watched the voting...the tears just ran down my face and my husband asked me if I was ok. I'm still teary eyed. This is such a historical moment.
I also felt so proud of those states who proudly announced their Native American Tribes (I'm Ottawa)....it was so neat.
Anyway.....on the reality side....please pay attention to Obama's website and make sure your friends and family do also... We have a ways to go and the website is asking people to make phone calls to undecideds in other states AND if you can volunteer in swing states.......PLEASE......PLEASE .......PLEASE!!!!!
We cannot get complacent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pjamma
I posted this in the open thread already but when Hillary released her votes I burst out in tears. It was such a historic moment it was overwhelming. Then my sister called and said "are you crying, too?" and I cried a little more.
Congrats Obama!!! On to November!!!
I think I'm going to need some valium on election night.
Miranda
I will be in DC on Jan 20, 2009 - nothing but God can keep me from it. I want to see him sworn in. I will stand out in that cold all night if necessary.
My friends and I have already planned a road-trip from NYC to DC. This is history. I want to be able to say I was there.
MsKitty
I won't make it to DC but the family will be taking the day off and having a big celebration. The day will have special meaning for us not just because of the swearing in, but Jan 20, 2009 would have been my Mom's 70th birthday. I know if Mom were still here she would be beside herself right now.

LOVE TRAIN [video] THE O'JAYS YAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! :>) :>)
they interviewed 2 Black men on CNN. One was a Senior, and the other one was an Obama contemporary. Both were crying. The younger man said he thought of his father.
rikyrah: Thank you! :>) :>) But, MORE IMPORTANTLY, I have learned SOOOO much from JJP. As I've oft stated, 5 months ago, I didn't know what the word BLOG meant. And here I am, [kinda :>) ]blogging!! And I've improved my "cut and paste skills" immensely!! :>) :>) :>)
Sooooo, I thank JJP for introducing me to this "other world" AND I thank the JJP FAMILY of bloggers for all your assistance and your patience and for "speaking" to this amateur! :>) :>) :>) :>)
Whew! Tearful Deep Breaths!!! :>) :>) :>)
TruthSeeker
Congratulations, my American friends!!!!! You have your nominee!!
Texas_Girl_in_LA
Thanks Truth!
msmartin
Thank you. It's been a long hard fought journey, but you were with us all the way, it is your victory too!
Me too, rikyrah. It was an even more moving moment than when, first Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg then Sen. Kennedy, appeared on stage on Monday. As moving as Gov. Schweitzer and Rep. Kucinich's speeches last night. I was born in 1954, a couple of months after Brown v. Board of Education. I was born in the cradle of the civil rights movement - Birmingham, AL. I am 10-12 days older than Secretary Rice; we were both most likely born in the basement of Jefferson County/Hillman Hospital, now UAB Hospital. To this day, my birth certificate says that my mother was colored and my father was colored.
I was a youngster during the marches, during the assassination of first JFK, then Malcolm X, MLK, Jr. and RFK and I can still remember where I was and what was happening during each murder as well as when the Voting Rights Act was passed; I have personal stories about Jim Crow and segregation in Alabama. I remember the colored and white fountains, being snatched up by my maternal great grandmother when I was 5 as I attempted to sit next to a white woman on the bus.
I could go on because I have a testimony about segregated schools, freedom of choice, busing, the whole nine yards - German shepherds, water hoses, Bull Connor, Dr. King in the Birmingham jail - yet I never thought - never even considered - that we would have a viable black candidate for the US presidency in my lifetime. Even as a writer, I never even fantasized about it
From a child, I was taught patriotism to love my people and my country in spite of the degradations, yet I have to say, I've never loved my country as much as I do now, no matter what happens in November.
As for Senator Clinton - she did good things yesterday and today, and there was a feeling of authenticity to her and we all ought to cut her some slack for that alone.
It's done YA'LL...BARACK OBAMA IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!!! 6:50PM Est.!!!
No more presumptive...IT'S OFFICIAL.
rikyrah
I'm glad I was watching. I was going to miss this- His nomination by Acclamation. Just got it on my Tivo.
PS- anyone just see Donna Brazile getting the makeup hookup on CNN?
JJai
I saw it, too. It was other-worldly. Wow!!!
I'll feel so blessed to have seen it live. I loved seeing that young African American man with tears in his eyes. If this wasn't catharsis, nothing will ever be enough. HRC was tearing up to; but for other reasons I presume.
I saw her address Emily's List yesterday as well as the New York Delegation. When she said that it took her some time to get over it - as it would anyone - I understood and commiserated with her. I also saw that she had made her peace with her primary loss, and I agree with my curmudgeon ex-Marine brother in Oregon that it is Billy Jeff that's still the fly in the ointment, still the whining big nose.
We don't know anyone's heart but I do know this - Senator Clinton did what she needed to do, and she did it well all day yesterday and then today. It was planned that she would issue the acclamation and she did it well, even started out with let's elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States. The fact that she only had 341.5 delegates to his 1559.5 proved Jonathan Alter's point that he made a few weeks ago - that if they went to roll call, she would lose most of the delegates she'd won during the primary.
But she did well, and we need to give her her props and move on. As I told them on Daily Kos, I respect her again so now they have my permission to help her retire her campaign debt. :)
